Abstract:To obtain the competitive advantages of lower cost,better performance,and greater flexibility,it was increasingly important for organizations to empower employees.This study adopted a moderating approach to explore how psychological climate was related to job performance by psychological empowerment.Data were collected from 307 employees of 18 companies in Beijing,Shanghai and Changsha.The results of correlation analysis,analysis of variance and linear regression analysis showed: ① Psychological empowerment was related to psychological climate and job performance,and job performance was related to psychological climate;② Dimensions of psychological climate and psychological empowerment had good predictive effects of task performance,context performance and job performance;③ Psychological climate could predict job performance,and psychological empowerment was a moderating variable;the moderating effect was shown in the two facets of self-determination and self-efficacy.

Abstract:PurposeThis paper aims to investigate the relationship between empowering leadership and innovative job performance, with challenge stress and hindrance stress acting as parallel mediators. Additionally, the study examines how promotion focus and prevention focus moderate these dual processes.Design/methodology/approachA two-wave survey was employed to validate the theoretical model, gathering data from 449 employees across various industries in Mainland China with a convenience sampling method.FindingsThe results demonstrate that empowering leadership enhances employee innovative job performance by increasing challenge stress and reducing hindrance stress, highlighting the moderating role of regulatory focus. Specifically, a high promotion focus strengthens the positive relationship between empowering leadership and challenge stress, while a high prevention focus weakens the negative relationship between empowering leadership and hindrance stress. The moderated mediation effect of regulatory focus is also verified.Practical implicationsEmpowering leaders should be mindful of employees’ dualistic work stress and implement tailored management strategies based on individual regulatory focus to maintain their psychological well-being and enhance innovative performance.Originality/valueGrounded in job demand-resource (JD-R) theory and a stress perspective, this study develops a dual-path model to explore the impact of empowering leadership on employee innovative job performance through dualistic work stress. This framework enhances our understanding of the mechanisms underlying the effectiveness of empowering leadership and the antecedent factors influencing employee well-being and innovative performance. Furthermore, by examining the role of employees’ regulatory focus, this study clarifies the boundary conditions of empowering leadership effectiveness, addressing inconsistencies in previous research findings.

Abstract:A substantial body of literature has analyzed the influence of psychological empowerment on individual and organizational outcomes. However, there is still a need to examine how empowered employees achieve higher performance. To fill this gap in the literature, this study analyzed the mediating role of self-efficacy and affective commitment in the relationship between psychological empowerment and task-based job performance. Data were collected from 357 employees. The hypotheses were tested using structural equation modeling and bootstrapping procedures. The results validated the structural relationships between psychological empowerment, self-efficacy, affective commitment, and task-based job performance. In addition, the serial mediation effect of self-efficacy and affective commitment was also confirmed. These results highlight the relevance of psychological variables, such as psychological empowerment and affective commitment, for individuals and organizations. The study supports that feeling empowered and emotionally committed is essential in building a long-term relationship between the employee and the organization.

Abstract:This study investigates the effect of empowering behavior of leader on followers' proactive behavior. It was also proposed that such an effect will be mediated by psychological empowerment, whereas, leader-follower distance was proposed to inversely moderate the direct effect of empowering leadership. The setting for this study was the Hospitality industry in Pakistan. Survey data was collected from managerial level employees working in hotels in Islamabad and Lahore,Pakistan. Dyadic data were gathered from 311 1-1 supervisor-subordinate dyads. Data were analyzed in two steps. First, the measurement model was assessed for reliability and validity. Common method variance was assessed with the help of common latent factor method. Second, direct and indirect effects were tested using structural regression. Test of moderation was performed using Process Macro in SPSS. Results show that empowering leadership had a significant effect on proactive behavior. The effect of empowering leadership was partially mediated by psychological empowerment. It was found that leader-follower distance had an inverse moderating effect. Leadership Styles and Psychological Empowerment: A Meta-Analysis

Abstract:Psychological empowerment has become a popular construct in organizational research and practice. Leadership ranks high among the best predictors of employees’ psychological empowerment, yet little is known about which leadership styles prove more effective than others. This meta-analysis investigates the effects of four leadership styles on psychological empowerment. More specifically, we test whether empowering leadership evokes more psychological empowerment than transformational leadership, servant leadership, or transactional leadership. We found that empowering, transformational and servant leadership contribute almost equally to psychological empowerment. No relationship was found with transactional leadership. In an explorative manner, we tested the effects on the different dimensions of psychological empowerment. We found that the leadership styles had a weaker influence on the competence dimension of psychological empowerment. We also investigated the effects of several moderators on the relationships with psychological empowerment: country culture (power balanced freedom (PBF)), study design (cross-sectional vs. multi-wave studies) and publication status (published vs. unpublished). We found no moderating effects of culture, which indicates the universally empowering effects of the leadership styles. The relationships between leadership and empowerment were somewhat weaker when data were collected at different measurement points, and publication bias does not seem to be an issue in this research field.

Abstract:This study attempts to analyze the complex relationship that exists between three important HR dimensions: psychological empowerment, innovative behavior, and employees’ performance in Nepalese organizations. Understanding the factors that lead to improved employee performance in today’s dynamic workplaces is essential for organizational success. Psychological empowerment has been identified for its role to inspire the employees and increase their work commitment whereas the innovative behavior is essential for organizational innovation. The study uses a quantitative approach with a broad sample of 607 employees from the hotel, insurance, and banking industries in Nepal. To analyze and interpret findings, the study adopted a descriptive, correlational and explanatory research design approach for which the study performed the reliability, validity, factor, correlation and regression analysis with the use of the tools like Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). This study investigates how psychological empowerment influences innovative behavior and subsequently impacts overall employee performance. The study is significant for identifying the role of innovative behavior as a mediator in the relationship between psychological empowerment and employees’ performance. These findings offer valuable theoretical insights to researchers and practical benefits to practitioners by emphasizing the importance of fostering psychological empowerment and innovative behavior to improve employees’ performance as well as the overall performance of the organizations.

Abstract:This study aims to investigate the effect of ethical leadership on employee attitudes (affective commitment and job satisfaction) and to examine the role of psychological empowerment as a potential mediator of these relationships. In total, 467 employees in Chinese public sector completed surveys across three separate waves. Confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling were used to test hypotheses. The paper found a positive relationship between ethical leadership and both employee attitudes and further reveals that psychological empowerment fully mediates the relationship between ethical leadership and affective commitment while partially mediates the relationship between ethical leadership and job satisfaction. Testing of above relationships via a mediated approach is novel and contributes to the research on ethical leadership.

Abstract:Perceptions of psychological empowerment play a vital role in the way an individual perceives things at the workplace. In spite of this, there is scant research on the antecedents and consequences of psychological empowerment. This study is an attempt to fill this gap by analyzing the mediating role of psychological empowerment on the relationship between its antecedents (leader–member exchange) and its consequences (work engagement and psychological withdrawal behavior). Data were collected from 454 employees working in the Research and Development (R&D) departments of the information technology (IT) and pharmaceutical sectors operating in India. Results suggest that employees who have a high-quality relationship with their leader have high psychological empowerment, they are highly engaged at work, and their psychological withdrawal behavior is also low. In addition to this, high levels of psychological empowerment have a positive impact on their engagement toward work, which further leads to a low psychological withdrawal behavior. The theoretical and practical implications of these results are discussed.

Abstract:Employee empowerment can lead to work engagement; however, this process may be influenced by employees' cultural values and beliefs. This quantitative study focused on the efficacy of employee empowerment in organisational management practices and performance within the Chinese cultural setting. Specifically, we examined the impacts of empowering leadership on work engagement, with psychological empowerment functioning as a mediator and cultural orientation as a moderator. Based on a sample of 498 frontline employees in five upscale or luxury hotels in Beijing, China, findings revealed that empowering leadership was positively correlated with work engagement and psychological empowerment. Psychological empowerment partially mediated the relationship between empowering leadership and work engagement. Chinese hotel frontline employees generally perceived a low power distance orientation and high collectivist orientation in the workplace. Power distance orientation was the only moderator of the effect of empowering leadership on psychological empowerment. Theoretical and practical contributions are discussed.

Analysis of the Mediating Role of Psychological Empowerment between Perceived Leader Trust and Employee Work Performance

Abstract:High levels of trust between employees and leaders moderate the relationship between organizational management practices. A collaborative environment encourages employees to have more Psychological Empowerment, which in turn leads to better performance. Based on Intrinsic Work Motivation and Self-Evaluation, this paper uses Perceived Leader Trust as an independent variable, Employee Work Performance as a dependent variable, and introduces Psychological Empowerment to explore the internal mechanism of perceived trust. This paper proposes a total of 28 hypotheses, and 25 hypotheses have been verified. The specific research conclusions are as follows: (1) Perceived Leader Trust has a positive impact on Employee Work Performance. (2) Perceived Leader Trust positively affects employees' Psychological Empowerment. Perceived Leader Dependence has a significant impact on all dimensions of Psychological Empowerment, but the relationship between Perceived Information Disclosure and Work Meaning is not significant. (3) Psychological Empowerment is positively correlated with Employee Work Performance, in which the four dimensions of Psychological Empowerment are significantly related to Employee Task Performance, while Work Meaning and Autonomy are not significantly related to Employee Relationship Performance. (4) Psychological Empowerment, as the overall perception of employees, plays a partial mediating role between Perceived Leader Trust and Employee Work Performance. This paper verifies the role of Psychological Empowerment between Perceived Leader Trust and Employee Work Performance, and explores the internal mechanism of Perceived Leader Trust from the perspective of employees' Intrinsic Work Motivation, which promotes the development of organizational management practices.

Abstract:This study explores the relationship between organizational performance (OP), employee engagement (EE), and job satisfaction (JS) as a moderating factor among IT workers in Bangalore City. Research indicates a positive correlation between OP and EE, suggesting that engaged employees lead to better organizational outcomes. Job satisfaction, acting as a moderator, can either strengthen or weaken this connection. This study employs a quantitative approach to examine these dynamics and determine how JS influences the effect of EE on OP. Understanding the role of JS as a moderator can help IT managers tailor their engagement initiatives to maximize their impact on organizational performance. Recognizing the importance of JS in this relationship allows managers to make more informed decisions on effectively boosting employee engagement within their teams. Addressing both engagement and satisfaction can lead to a holistic approach to improving overall employee well-being and productivity. Abstract:Even though existing literature frequently finds High Performance Human Resource Practices' (HPHRPs) positive impact on job performance in organizational setting, still it remains short to study unexplored underlying methods by which High Performance Human Resource Practices (HPHRPs) affect employee job performance. This gap is filled by our research, which proposes psychological empowerment as a mediator in the aforementioned relationship. Based on signaling theory, the present study examines the mediating role of psychological empowerment (PE) in the relationship between high-performance human resource practices (HPHRPs) and job performance (JP). In addition, this study tests the interactive effect of HPHRPs and responsible leadership on psychological empowerment. Data were collected in three waves from representative sample of education sector employees and their supervisors (T1-557, T2-342, T3-210 responses) in Pakistan. The hypotheses were evaluated using the PROCESS macro with SPSS to measure moderated-mediated relationships. The findings of the study reveal that HPHRPs positively influence employee performance through psychological empowerment. Responsible leadership positively moderates HPHRPs' effects on psychological empowerment. Furthermore, responsible leadership moderates the mediated relationship such that this positive indirect effect is stronger for individuals possessing low levels of responsible leadership. Our study is the first of its type to investigate whether a responsible leader may moderate the indirect impact of HPHRPs on JP through psychological empowerment. The findings carry critical implications for the practitioners and academics to devise interventions for better work environments.

Abstract:Based on workplace resources theories, especially conservation of resources theory, the present study examines if empowering leadership promotes subordinates' innovative work behavior and reduces workplace bullying through two mediators, an energic state (thriving at work) and an attentional state (job boredom). U.S. employees answered questionnaires at three times one month apart. The hypothesized mediation model was supported more strongly than alternative models. Empowering leadership at Time 1 fostered subordinates' thriving and alleviated their job boredom at Time 2. Greater thriving or less boredom resulted in more innovative work behavior and less bullying at Time 3. Together, the study shows the important roles of employees' energic and attentional states in explaining why the job resources provided in empowering leadership may affect subordinates' desirable and undesirable behaviors.

Abstract:Task performance is essential for organizations, so it continues to attract the attention of researchers, practitioners, and academics. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore the effect of boundary-spanning leadership and psychological empowerment on the task performance of employees in Indonesian companies through the mediation mechanism of proactive work behavior. Research data were obtained from 455 employees of companies in the financial, trade, service, and investment sectors in Indonesia. The paper employed accidental sampling using a Likert-scale questionnaire and structural equation modeling. The results show that boundary-spanning leadership, psychological empowerment, and proactive work behavior significantly affect task performance. Boundary-spanning leadership and psychological empowerment significantly affect proactive work behavior. Proactive work behavior mediated the causal relationship between boundary-spanning leadership and psychological empowerment with task performance. These findings encourage a new empirical model regarding the critical role of proactive work behavior in transmitting boundary-spanning leadership and psychological empowerment to task performance. This model can be used by scholars, researchers, and practitioners to investigate worker task performance more thoroughly and deeply from the perspectives of boundary-spanning leadership, psychological empowerment, and proactive work behavior. It can serve as a credo for corporate management professionals seeking to maximize proactive work behavior, psychological empowerment, and boundary-spanning leadership in order to enhance employee task performance. In the interim, scholars and researchers can utilize it as a guide for next task performance investigations.

Abstract:Purpose - This paper on workplace spirituality entails one’s emotional involvement in the job and associations with colleagues to develop consistency in values. It is a cognitive state where one feels driven to find the purpose of life through the notion of coexistence. Workplace spirituality builds a bridge between one’s belief system of life and the values set in the organization. Study Design/Methodology/Approach - It is a cross-sectional study conducted through a self-administered questionnaire. The questionnaire was distributed among respondents working in health-related institutions. SPSS and PLS were used for research analysis. The study provides empirical evidence of workplace spirituality impacting employees’ job satisfaction and organizational performance in consequence. An employee’s standing in the organization and meaningful recognition provides the much-needed connectivity with the community that helps to nurture the inner life. Findings-The study concludes that workplace spirituality and job satisfaction are closely related; if working environments are not conducive, the employees will not be forthcoming to work wholeheartedly. Quality work at the workplace needs heart, soul, and hands to contribute to harmony and sincerity. Practical Implications- The current study will help health professionals and policy makers in decision making and policy development. The current study is limited to the sample and scope of industry in the future current study will conduct in other fields and contexts such as education. Originality/Novelty- Although, there are studies that show the relationship of workplace spirituality with job satisfaction. However, the current study is one unique study that examines the relationship between workplace spirituality and job satisfaction with two mediators i.e. Employees’ Well-being and Psychological Empowerment in the health sector of Pakistan.
