Abstract:Condensation heat transfer phenomena is one of the most important heat transfer processes in the industrial applications. Over past years ago, rapid growth in surface modification and fabrication technologies has been adopted for the enhancement of condensation HTC through the fabrication of hydrophobic coatings on the test surface. However, most of the previous coated surfaces were not chemically stable and could not work for a long time as well as the efficacy of hydrophobic surfaces in condensation is controversy in the literature. This work, instead, focuses on applying an ultrathin scalable chemical vapor deposition (CVD) graphene coating to enhance the condensation heat transfer performance. The present study provides an experimental observation of R-245fa refrigerant on integral fins having fin spaces of 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 mm with enhanced Functionalized_Graphene layers. The effects of fin spacing on the condensate drainage were analysed. It was observed that, for the fin spacing of 2 mm, the condensation HTC enhancement on Fluorinated-Graphene and Graphene coating surfaces were 8% and 3.5% higher than those on non-coating tubes. Fluorinated-Graphene could enhance the contact angle of R-245fa and decreased the amount of the condensate liquid between the fin gaps. For the fin spacing of 1.5 mm, the test results illustrated that condensation HTC on fluorinated graphene and graphene coating were 16% and 3.8% higher than those on the non-coating surface. For the fin spacing of 1.0 mm, the heat transfer coefficients on fluorinated graphene and graphene surfaces were found to be 17% and 4.4% higher than the non-coating surface. Finally, for the fin spacing of 0.5 mm, the highest enhancement of heat transfer coefficients was observed and the trend of condensation HTC was completely different in this exceptional case. The enhancement in condensation HTC on fluorinated graphene and graphene coating surfaces were up to 50% and 35% higher than the non-coating tube.
