Abstract:The Internet of Things (IoT) has enhanced the value of agricultural supply chains and reduced traditional risks. However, new risks to the agricultural supply chain have emerged in the IoT era. The risks in the agricultural supply chain under IoT, including risks related to perception, network, and application layers, are summarised in this paper. The ordered weighted averaging operator is utilised to quantitatively evaluate and sort these risks. Subsequently, the supply chain risk diffusion convergence model is used to identify the quantitative indicators that can measure risk fluctuations in the agricultural supply chain according to the risk assessment results. Finally, measures for risk management are proposed according to the results derived through the quantitative model for the agricultural supply chain under IoT.

Abstract:Agriculture has always been the focus of all countries, the rapid development of agriculture is inseparable from the strong support of finance. As a new financial model, agricultural product supply chain finance has attracted much attention. Through the analysis of the agricultural product supply chain finance model, we find that the core problem of agricultural supply chain finance is the management and control of supply chain financial risks. Based on the identification of financial risk categories of agricultural products supply chain, this paper constructs tan evaluation index system. Taking Jiangsu Province of China as the research object, this research collects relevant data of financial institutions, logistics enterprises, agricultural product production, and processing enterprises and farmers in southern and northern Jiangsu Province in 2021. The structural equation is used to establish the model. This statistical method can handle multiple potential variables at the same time, and allows observation variables and potential variables to contain measurement errors. The application of statistical methods that can handle multiple potential variables at the same time and allow observation variables and potential variables to contain measurement errors to build a model. By using the Amos calculation model, this research found that the factors affecting the financial risks of the agricultural product supply chain in Jiangsu Province from high to low are: the agricultural product pledge risks, the credit risks, the supply chain operation risks, the technical risks, the legal and policy risk. We hope this research can play a theoretical guiding role for the effective development of agricultural product supply chain finance business.

Abstract:This paper analyzes the optimal production and pricing decisions in an agricultural supply chain formed by contract farming scheme consisting of an agribusiness firm and multiple risk-averse farmers. The effects of yield and demand uncertainties and the farmer’s risk aversion on the optimal decisions of the production quantity, wholesale price and retail price are analyzed. Our analyses provide managerial insights on the contract terms of the agricultural supply chain. We show that the production quantity decreases as the farmer is more risk-averse and faces higher yield uncertainty, while the retail price subsequently increases. However, the wholesale price is influenced by the interaction effect of the farmer’s risk aversion and yield uncertainty. The retail price is influenced by the interaction effect of demand uncertainty and price elasticity. In particular, we show that the loss due to the decentralized decisions increases as the farmer is more risk-averse and yield uncertainty is higher. Thus, a RPG (Revenue sharing + Production cost sharing + Guaranteed money) mechanism is developed to facilitate the coordination of the agricultural supply chain under uncertainty environment with risk-averse agents based on contract farming practices. The cost allocation ratio of the RPG mechanism borne by the agribusiness firm increases in the yield and market demand uncertainties and decreases in the farmer’s risk aversion. Specially, if the farmer is extremely risk averse, as well as the yield and demand becomes extremely higher, the RPG mechanism cannot achieve perfect coordination of the agricultural supply chain.

Abstract:The modernization process of Chinese agriculture has posed new challenges to agriculture economic management. However, existing studies focus on financial and ecological and environmental risks of agriculture economic management while lacking the necessary attention to other types of agricultural economic management. Therefore, we first propose that the risk of agricultural economic management is of five types—economic, social, political, cultural, and ecological and environmental risks—and further clarify the interactions among the five risk types. Given that the five types of risks are nested with each other, we adopted a multivariate statistical algorithm based on complex network theory to scientifically evaluate the risk management of agriculture economy. The results show the applicability of the algorithm to risk clustering analysis and risk coefficient estimation. The article concludes with the corresponding theoretical and practical implications.

Modeling Value at Risk of agricultural commodity while accounting for seasonality and weather using Extreme Value Theory

Abstract:modeling extreme risk in returns accurately arising from volatility in agricultural commodity prices is of utmost importance for farmers, policy makers and other key stakeholders. In this study, we compare and contrast performance of Extreme Value Theory based methods modified to accurately model extreme risk and Value at Risk (VaR) of three agricultural commodities (USA corn, soybean and wheat) while taking into account seasonality and weather information. We use daily frequency data covering the period Dec 1987 to Sept 2011 (i.e., 6192 observations). We find significant presence of clustering of violations during the crop growing seasons. We also find significant influence of seasonality and weather on VaRs as expected. Based on a rigorous process of backtesting and loss function estimates, we conclude that our modified seasonal Peak Over Threshold (POT) models perform better during the growing seasons of the crops and equally well for the whole period as well when compared with conditional POT and Duration POT methods. We strongly recommend that one should take into account seasonality and weather information while modeling risk in agricultural returns in order to obtain accurate forecasts and avoid unprecedented losses in the future. Abstract:The uncertainty of the hydrological environment and unbalanced water resource allocation result in a high risk of irrigation water shortages in regional agriculture, which seriously affects the sustainable development of agricultural systems. In this paper, we propose a risk regulation based modeling approach for the optimal allocation of agricultural water resources in a complex stochastic environment. The approach includes a conditional value-at-risk (CVaR) model, two-stage stochastic programming (TSP) model, two-dimensional joint distribution probability (JP) model, fractal criteria, and a multiple forms of chance-constrained programming (CCP) model. The model can weigh the contradiction between the intended target and associated penalties attributed to unknown hydrological events, measure the risk between system benefits and expected losses in agricultural water allocation at different confidence levels, and address the randomness in the objective function and constraints (including the left end term, right end term, and left and right end terms). To verify the applicability of the method, it is applied to the Jinxi Irrigation District in China to optimize the allocation and risk regulation of limited water resources under the variable runoff conditions of the Songhua River and crop water demands in the irrigation area. By adjusting parameters such as risk preference and probability of violation, the risk of water shortages in the irrigation area can be regulated, and the multidimensional impacts of different water allocation schemes on agricultural economic benefits, social benefits, ecology and environment can be determined. The case study reveals that the CTSP-CCJP method is sensitive, applicable to complex and uncertain environments and important for the efficient use of agricultural water resources and risk reduction.

Abstract:This study considers a contract farming supply chain consisting of a platform and a risk‐averse farmer with yield uncertainty. It establishes game theory models with and without digital technology under CVaR criterion and analyzes three digital cooperation mechanisms. We find that when the wholesale price is moderate, both parties will choose a cost‐sharing contract; when the wholesale price is high, both parties will choose to let the farmer bear the cost of digital investment; when the farmer uses digital technology to grow agricultural products, the platform should not provide the farmer with a low wholesale price, especially for the farmer with low risk aversion.

Abstract:Purpose The purpose of this paper is to develop a quantitative risk assessment method for agricultural products cold chain logistics to assess the condition of the fresh agricultural products cold chain process objectively and accurately. Design/methodology/approach A risk assessment index system of agricultural products cold chain logistics is designed on the basis of the risk identification for the process of agricultural products cold chain logistics. This paper first uses catastrophe progression method and a new maximum deviation method to build an improved catastrophe progression assessment model for agricultural products cold chain logistics. In order to verify the reliability and validity of the model, two representative enterprises are selected as the case in the study. Findings The results in the empirical research indicate strong support for the assessment model and coincide with the reality. The risk assessment index system can also reflect the key risk factors from agricultural products cold chain logistics scientifically. In addition, the improved catastrophe progression assessment method proposed in this paper can be scientific and reasonable to predict risk. Research limitations/implications This paper contributes to provide a new risk assessment model for agricultural products cold chain logistics. The new model overcomes the limitation of subjective empowerment and it increases the objectivity and scientificity in the process of cold chain logistics risk assessment. This paper also shows that practitioners involved in the field of products cold chain logistics can manage the potential risk by a set of scientific methods for assessing the risk before the accident. Practical implications The paper provides a practical guideline to practitioners, especially for cold chain logistics managers, relevant management departments, and cold chain logistics management consultants. It is proved that the new risk assessment method and the risk assessment index system of agricultural products cold chain logistics can help them assess the risk scientifically and reasonably. Originality/value Although the calculation is simple, the new model can overcome the limitation of subjective empowerment scientifically and reasonably, and thus has important practical value.

Abstract:Supply chain risk management is a large and growing field of research. However, within this field, mathematical models for agricultural products have received relatively little attention. This is somewhat surprising as risk management is even more important for agricultural supply chains due to challenges associated with seasonality, supply spikes, long supply lead-times, and perishability. This paper carries out a thorough review of the relatively limited literature on quantitative risk management models for agricultural supply chains. Specifically, we identify robustness and resilience as two key techniques for managing risk. Since these terms are not used consistently in the literature, we propose clear definitions and metrics for these terms; we then use these definitions to classify the agricultural supply chain risk management literature. Implications are given for both practice and future research on agricultural supply chain risk management.

Abstract:Abstract Considering the influence of decision maker's risk preference degree on decision making, this paper employs CVaR risk measure criterion to facilitate decision making. The optimal decision making of supply chain finance under partial credit guarantee and blockchain technology empowerment is investigated. In addition, the CVaR decision models for supply chain finance under two scenarios of partial credit guarantee and blockchain technology empowerment are constructed. The inverse solving is conducted with the help of the Stackelberg model to find out the optimal ordering quantity, wholesale price, and interest rate. The influencing factors of decision making are investigated. This study shows that, within a certain risk‐averse range, the ordering quantity of retailers under the partial credit guarantee model is larger than that under the blockchain technology‐enabled model. In contrast, the conditional risk value of suppliers under the partial credit guarantee model is much smaller than that under the blockchain technology‐enabled model. In conclusion, the blockchain technology is beneficial to reduce supply chain finance risks.

Abstract:This paper combines the practical activities of the supply chain with existing theories to explore new ways to measure financial risks in the supply chain. We establish a supply chain financial risk measurement index system based on the VaR model, and use the Monte Carlo simulation method to conduct empirical analysis. The results show that banks can use the VaR model to investigate the business status of the enterprise according to the financial data such as profit rate and return on assets in the actual operation of these enterprises. At the same time, the β value is introduced on the basis of the traditional VaR model. The use of the VaR model and the β value can help the bank to quantitatively screen the financing object according to its own risk preference. When the β value of the enterprise with financing demand is greater than the set value, then the bank will without lending, the β value also helps banks scientifically allocate financing quotas and effectively control risks.

Abstract:Value-at-Risk(VaR) is a commonly used tool to measure market risk, and also the basic tool of risk management. There are many methods for computing VaR. In this paper we consider the correlation of data, through overlapping data to group all the data to compute VaR. The calculated VaR is more approximate to the fact. In addition, the size of group is studied and it follows power-law. The Hang Seng Index is analyzed to find the reasonable size of data grouping.

Abstract:Agricultural products supply-chain finance, as one of the solutions to the issue of “capital problems” of agriculture, countryside and farmers, has proposed a kind of characteristics model to assess the risk of agricultural production, processing and marketing, which can improve the issue of farmers and enterprises lacking of funds. This model is proposed on the basis of uncertain information processing method of D-S theory and its data combination rules, combined with the “discount rate” correction model, and it includes a risk assessment index system of agricultural products supply-chain finance, fully considering the five aspects of production, processing, marketing, cooperation of supply chain and collateral. At last, a taro supply chain is taken for example. And the risk assessment of its supply-chain finance based on this model has been discussed in detail. And the result has proved that the model and its algorithm are practical and feasible.

Abstract:There are lots of studies based on high-frequency data,including the estimating method and distribution character of realized volatility and so on.In this paper,the dependence structure between daily return and realized volatility and that between daily return and price range are analyzed based on Copula method from intraday high-frequency data and daily returns.Joint distribution of one special type of data is estimated based on distributions of different quadrants,and CVaR with consideration of realized volatility and price range is also calculated.An empirical analysis of high-frequency data from Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Markets is presented.By comparing the forecasting results,the conclusion is obtained that the CVaR with consideration of realized volatility forecasts market risks better.
Construction and application of computerized risk assessment model for supply chain finance under technology empowerment

Abstract:This study seeks to assist small and medium enterprises break free of the constraints of the conventional financing model and lessen the supply chain finance risks they face. First, the supply chain financial business model and credit risk are analyzed, followed by a discussion of the application principle of blockchain in the control of supply chain financial credit risk. The next topic up for discussion is the emancipation of individuals and the application of financial technology toward the management of financial risk in supply chains. In the final stage of the development of the computerized risk assessment model, the Fuzzy Support Vector Machine (FSVM) is optimized, and the effectiveness and efficiency of risk classification are enhanced by introducing a variable penalty factor C. To test the efficacy of the C-FSVM risk assessment model, the Chinese auto sector is used as the study's object. According to the results of the study, the C-FSVM model has a classification accuracy of 96.35% for the entire sample, 96.45% for credible firms, and 95.34% for default enterprises. The training time of the C-FSVM model is 473.9s, which is far lower than the SVM and FSVM models' training times of 1631.6s and 1870.2s. In summary, the C-FSVM supply chain financial risk assessment model is effective and has great application value in banking practice.

Abstract:As the basic necessity of national life, agricultural products have become the basic elements of economic and social development. Because of the complexity and uncertainty of the internal and external environment, the supply chain of agricultural products has various risks, such as vulnerability and instability in the system structure. This paper analyzes the common structural model and risk factors of agricultural product supply chain, discusses the main factors of agricultural product supply chain risk factors, and combines the characteristics of decentralization and information encryption of block chain technology with the governance of each node of agricultural product supply chain. This paper puts forward the optimal analysis of agricultural product supply chain model construction and related node risk management under block chain technology.
Analysis of Multi-period Combined Bidding of Power Suppliers Based on Weighted CVaR

Abstract:In the multi-market, power suppliers should allocate the bidding electricity to each market reasonably in order to minimize the risk and maximize the profits. Decision-making is a multi-period process in bidding, so power suppliers face the multi-period risks (dynamic risks); the revenue rates of different markets have characteristics of stochastic changing. The model of conditional value at risk (CVaR) can measure the risks and revenues, but single period CVaR only reflects the static risk and the fixed revenue rate of single period. So the multi-period bidding strategy model based on the CVaR is applied in bidding, which can rationally reflect the dynamic risks and the stochastic changing characteristics of revenue rates. Applying the model, power suppliers allocate the bidding electricity volume in different periods and different markets rationally to minimize the risk and maximize the expect profits. The calculation results show the validity of the multi-period CVaR model, and provides a new way for bidding strategy and risk valuation.

Abstract:Value at Risk(VaR) is an important financial risk measurement method,and there is a lot of research on dynamic VaR and conditional VaR recently.According to the fact of financial returns' heavy-tail,the return of financial assets is assumed to obey heavy-tailed distribution,and the heavy-tailed index is assumed to change with returns.Based on the tail index regression model,tail index and conditional distribution are estimated.And,for the first time,CVaR is estimated by the proposed method.An empirical study of Shanghai and Shenzhen 300 Index is presented,and CVaR is estimated and compared with the traditional VaR estimation methods.The test results of risk prediction effect reveal that our method is better.

Abstract:Value at Risk (VaR) is a quantitative measure used to evaluate the risk linked to the potential loss of investment or capital. Estimation of the VaR entails the quantification of prospective losses in a portfolio of investments, using a certain likelihood, under normal market conditions within a specific time period. The objective of this paper is to construct a model and estimate the VaR for a diversified portfolio consisting of multiple cash commodity positions driven by standard Brownian motions and jump processes. Subsequently, a thorough analytical estimation of the VaR is conducted for the proposed model. The results are then applied to two distinct commodities -- corn and soybean -- enabling a comprehensive comparison of the VaR values in the presence and absence of jumps.

Abstract:Chance-constrained program (CCP) is a popular stochastic optimization method in power system planning, and operation problems. Conditional Value-at-Risk (CVaR) provides a convex approximation for chance constraints which are nonconvex. Although CCP assumes an exact empirical distribution, and the optimum of a stochastic programming model is thought to be sensitive in the designated probability distribution, this letter discloses that CVaR reformulation of a chance constraint is intrinsically robust. A pair of indices are proposed to quantify the maximum tolerable perturbation of the probability distribution, and can be computed from a computationally-cheap dichotomy search. An example on the coordinated capacity optimization of energy storage, and transmission line for a remote wind farm validates the main claims. The above results demonstrate that stochastic optimization methods are not necessarily vulnerable to distributional uncertainty, and justify the positive effect of the conservatism brought by the CVaR reformulation.
