Abstract:Abstract: Jakarta as the largest city in Indonesia has had the center of the economy for a long time. One of the historic economic centers is Pasar Baru, Central Jakarta. As a historical place, Pasar Baru has its own unique character compared to any other market through the spatial phenomena that have long ago been formed through the various ethnicities, cultures, and histories, which created their uniqueness in that area. This study aims to find the spirit of place in the Pasar Baru area using the Genius Loci concept by Norberg-Schulz to show the uniqueness of a place that was created through the interaction between the natural and built environment. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method with data collection obtained through literature reviews, field observations, and interviews. Through research, it was found that there was a mixture of culture between Chinese and Indian and was followed by the local community that keeps the place alive. However, identities contained in this market are slowly receding. Therefore, this research is expected to discover the spirit that shapes and makes the place feel alive so it can provide additional insight for both readers and support the revitalization or other development in the future that may help maintain the identity and uniqueness of this place.Abstrak: Jakarta sebagai kota terbesar di Indonesia sudah memiliki pusat perekonomian sejak dahulu. Salah satu pusat perekonomian bersejarah berada di Kawasan Pasar Baru Jakarta Pusat. Sebagai tempat bersejarah, Pasar Baru memiliki karakter unik tersendiri dari pasar lainnya melalui fenomena-fenomena ruang yang telah lama terbentuk dari percampuran berbagai etnis, budaya, dan sejarah di dalamnya menciptakan keunikan tersendiri pada kawasan tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mencari spirit of place Kawasan Pasar Baru yang didasari dengan konsep Genius Loci oleh Norberg-Schulz untuk menunjukan keunikan sebuah tempat melalui interaksi yang tercipta antara lingkungan alam dan binaannya. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pengumpulan data diperoleh melalui kajian pustaka terhadap beberapa literatur yang relevan, observasi lapangan secara langsung, dan wawancara. Melalui penelitian yang telah dilakukan, ditemukan adanya percampuran budaya antara Tionghoa dengan India yang kemudian diikuti dengan masyarakat lokal sehingga membuat tempat ini tetap hidup hingga saat ini. Namun, secara perlahan identitas-identitas yang terkandung di dalam pasar ini kian surut. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan tambahan wawasan bagi para pembaca dan mendukung pengembangan Pasar Baru di masa mendatang yang turut menjaga identitas dan keunikan tempat ini.
