Abstract:The study was carried out in a swine farm severely affected by Swine Dysentery (SD) and enzootic pneumonia (EP). A prophylactic treatment of the weaning pigs was made seven days after weaning by a combination of Doxyvit (Sanofi Animal Health) and Tiamutin-80% (Novartis) in a dose of 100 ppm/1 ton food. As a result of this treatment the clinical signs of SD and EP disappeared and the mortality was reduced with 33.4% while in the control group it was reduced with 5.7%. Six pigs without clinical manifestations from the trial group were killed and then investigated pathomorphologically and bacteriologically. The macroscopic examinations did not show any changes except in two pigs, where small lesions in the lungs were found. The daily growth of the pigs from the experimental group was 417.0 g, while in the untreated control group it was 372.0 g. It follows in conclusion, that the combination of Doxyvit and Tiamutin had a high prophylactic effect in weaning pigs.
