Abstract:The main objective of this paper is to study the long-time behavior of the Euler-Bernoulli equations with a localized nonlinear damping. Since the effective damping is located in a small neighborhood of the boundary, we can not obtain the existence of an absorbing set and some kind of compactness of the semigroup associated with the Euler-Bernoulli equations, such that the classical theory of infinite dimensional dynamical systems does not work. To overcome this difficulty, we will first prove the existence of a strict Lyapunov functional by a unique continuation result for beam equation. Furthermore, we will also established the asymptotical quasi-stability property by using the multiplier methods and choosing appropriate cut-off functions, which implies the existence of a global attractor with finite fractal dimension.
