Abstract:View Video Presentation: https://doi.org/10.2514/6.2022-1525.vid The development of laser diagnostic methods based on Optical Parametric Oscillators (OPOs) has enabled high speed non-intrusive measurements of velocity, temperature and species composition in unsteady hypersonic flows at repetition rates exceeding dye laser performance. Here, we report on design optimization of a 250 kHz rate OPO for use in high enthalpy impulse facilities, as well as demonstrate system performance through nitric oxide (NO) Laser-Induced Fluorescence (LIF) study of Nanosecond Repetitively Pulsed (NRP) spark discharges. A maximum concentration of nitric oxide produced by NRP discharges was 1.5 x 10^23 1/m^3 with 10 consecutive 180 μJ spark discharges spaced by 10 μs. A radial distribution of the nitric oxide in the vicinity of the plasma region is presented. A bimodal distribution of the nitric oxide was identified to develop over the first few hundred microseconds. Such a distribution is attributed to a baroclinic torque created by pressure and density gradients in the vicinity of the discharges.
