Abstract:Nanosized Zn0.6Cu0.4Cr0.5Fe1.5−xLaxO4 (x=0∼0.06) ferrites doped with La are synthesized by a rheological phase reaction method. Polyaniline (PANI)/ferrite nanocomposites are prepared by in situ polymerization method. The structure, morphology and ferromagnetic property of ferrite powders and nanocomposites are characterized by X-ray powder diffractometer (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR), UV–visible spectroscopy (UV), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The results indicate that the PANI and nanosized ferrite powders can be combined effectively. The polymers can reduce the agglomeration of nanosized ferrite particles to some extent, which is good for the dispersedness and stabilization of nanoparticles. The PANI/ferrite nanocomposites under applied magnetic field exhibit the hysteretic loops of the ferromagnetic nature. The magnetic properties of nanocomposites are tailored by controlling the ferrite content.

Abstract:This study investigates the effects of Zn substitution on the magnetic properties of ∼5 nm cobalt ferrite nanoparticles (ZnxCo1-xFe2O4, where x = 0, 0.13, 0.34, and 0.55), demonstrating that Zn substitution induces complex changes in spin canting and prompts a redistribution of cations among the sublattices. We reconstructed the magnetic structure of these spinel ferrites by integrating the classical two-sublattice Néel model of ferrimagnetism with the data obtained from 57Fe Mössbauer spectrometry. Consequently, this research provides a comprehensive understanding of how Zn substitution tunes the magnetic properties of CoFe2O4 nanoparticles, offering valuable insights into the development of magnetic materials with tailored properties for various applications.

Abstract:This work reports the detailed structural characterization of Zn2+ ion-substituted cobalt ferrite nanoparticles (CFO NPs; Co1−xZnxFe2O4; x = 0.00, 0.25, 0.50, and 0.75), prepared using a facile sol–gel method. It correlates structural changes with magnetic and dielectric properties. The as-synthesized samples were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, BET surface area analyzer, energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), Mössbauer spectroscopy, and impedance analyzer. The pristine sample (CFO) comprised of NPs with 25 nm size, which decreased up to 11 nm upon the formation of Zn0.75Co0.25Fe2O4. The N2 adsorption–desorption isotherm of the prepared Zn0.5Co0.5Fe2O4 sample confirmed the presence of a mesoporous structure. SEM images revealed that all prepared samples exhibited porous surface with honeycomb-like structures. The cationic distribution was described by Mössbauer spectra. The increment of Zn ions in the prepared samples resulted in sharp reduction of saturation magnetization and remanence values. The normal dielectric dispersion behavior was recorded and can be ascribed to the Maxwell–Wagner type polarization. Besides, the dielectric parameters varied by increasing Zn content in CFO NPs. This may be ascribed to O2 vacancies and Fe3+ ions in A- and B-sites. Dielectric studies revealed that, content of Zn ions beyond x = 0.25 was sufficient to reduce both dielectric constant and loss at low frequencies.

Abstract:Spinel ferrite Cu1-xZnxFe2O4 nanofibers over a compositional range 0 < x < 1 were prepared by electrospinning combined with sol-gel method. The influence of Zn2+ ions substitution on morphology, structure, and magnetic properties of copper ferrite has been investigated. The results show that surface of CuFe2O4 nanofibers consists of small open porosity, while surface of doped nanofibers reveals smooth and densified nature. With increasing Zn substitution, saturation magnetization initially increases and then decreases with a maximum value of 58.4 emu/g at x = 0.4, coercivity and square ratio all decrease. The influence of substitution on magnetic properties is related with the cation distraction and exchange interactions between spinel lattices.

Abstract:The Co1−xZnxFe2O4 (Co–Zn) ferrite nanoparticles with x varying from 0.0 to 0.4 have been manufactured by facile chemical co-precipitation method and characterized using structural, morphological, compositional, magnetic and optical properties. XRD pattern revealed that the as-prepared samples have a single-phase spinel structure and good crystallinity which indicate that zinc substitution leads to an increase in both lattice constant and interplanar spacing. FTIR spectra indicate that organic phase annihilation and the spinel phase formation were observed for the prepared sample. The morphological study by SEM shows that the particles have almost spherical grains with narrow size distribution which are appropriate to attain colloidal stability in ferrofluid. The magnetic characterization was studied by VSM which shows that the high cobalt content samples with x < 0.3 show hysteresis, while samples with lower cobalt content show superparamagnetic nature. The saturation magnetization of Zn-substituted cobalt ferrite nanoparticles decreases appreciably with an increase in Zn concentration shown under the hysteresis curve. Low magnetic field ac susceptibility measurement shows a decrease in Curie temperature from 466 to 237 °C with an increase in zinc content of cobalt ferrite. Thus, by adjusting the zinc and cobalt content in an appropriate proportion, sample with superparamagnetic behaviour with required saturation magnetization and desired Curie temperature can be achieved.

Abstract:Zn-doped CoFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles were prepared via a modified polyacrylamide gel method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR) data reveal the formation of cubic spinel phase Co 1−x Zn x Fe 2 O 4 (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5) with average crystallite sizes from 57 to 44 nm. X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS) result declares the compositional stoichiometry and atomic ratios of Co to Zn. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images show that the nanoparticles are prone to clustering via agglomeration. High crystallinity and elemental uniformity are demonstrated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) technique. Ultraviolet–Visible (UV–Vis) diffuse refectance spectroscopy (DRS) measurements determine the optical band gaps from 1.46 to 1.57 eV. The hysteresis loops exhibit that all the products have a ferromagnetic behavior. The concentration of Zn 2+ doping strikingly affects magnetic properties. The saturation magnetization (M s ) reaches a maximum value of 79 emu/g at x = 0.2. Both coercivity (H c ) and remanent magnetization (M r ) reduce with increasing content of Zn 2+ . The variation mechanism of magnetic properties is discussed. This work will provide a valuable reference for synthesizing doped cobalt ferrite and tuning magnetic properties.

Abstract:Structural, optical, and magnetic properties of ferrite series with chemical formula Zn0.5NixMg0.5-xFe2O4 (x = 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4) were investigated. Co-precipitation and sol-gel methods were used to synthesis the samples and to investigate further the influence of these preparation methods on the properties of Zn0.5NixMg0.5-xFe2O4 nano-ferrites. X-ray diffraction and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy revealed that the samples crystallize in a cubic spinel structure with space group Fd3m:1. The crystallite size of Zn0.5NixMg0.5-xFe2O4 nanoparticles was decreased from 19.15 to 11.65 nm with increasing Ni content for the samples of co-precipitation method, while the opposite behavior was observed in case of sol-gel method which was increased from 13.90 to 21.90 nm. Moreover, the optical investigation by UV-visible spectroscopy revealed that the energy band gap of the samples of co-precipitation method ranged (6.04 - 6.08) eV compared to (4.44 - 4.50) eV of sol-gel method. For both methods, substitution of Ni+2 by Mg+2 in Zn0.5NixMg0.5-xFe2O4 affects the remanent magnetization (Mr), coercivity (Hc) and saturation magnetization (Ms) suggesting the super-paramagnetic behavior of the samples. The substitution of Ni resulted in small values of coercivity ranged 0.758 to 164.62 Oe. The Ms was ranged 20.39 to 127.57 emu/g and an enhancement in magnetization was observed which increases the value of Ms that was found to be maximum with x=0.4 of co-precipitation method (127.57 emu/g). The magnetic behavior of synthesized Ni doped nanoparticles makes them suitable candidate for sensing and high-frequency applications and for use in hyperthermia treatment. The characterization outcomes may recommend that co-precipitation method is preferred over sol-gel method for refined structure and preferable properties of Zn0.5NixMg0.5-xFe2O4 nanoparticles.

Abstract:The Zinc Nickel Cobalt Ferrite (ZNCF) Zn0.95−xNi0.05CoxFe2O4, for x= 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04, 0.05 and 0.06 were prepared by co-precipitation. XRD patterns show spinel ferrite with a cubic structure. The lattice parameter was found to increase linearly with cobalt concentration (x). FESEM gave the grain sizes in the range 1.61-1.38nm and particle size in the range 28-21 nm for x = 0.01 to 0.06. The porosity was in the range 92.6-92.9 %. The occupancy of metal ions in the two interstitial sites affects the exchange interaction. The higher grain size and lower porosity have a positive impact on magnetic saturation which makes them applicable in recording media.

Abstract:Samples of Co 1– x Zn x Fe 2 O 4 ( x = 0.2, 0.4, 0.6 and 0.8) were prepared using the typical wet chemical co-precipitation process. The samples were then sintered at 600°C and 800°C for 3 h in air. The structure of the material was investigated by x-ray diffraction (XRD) and Rietveld refinement, and a single-phase spinel cubic structure was confirmed by XRD. The size and shape of the material were evaluated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The selected area electron diffraction (SAED) pattern revealed distinct planes of the system. Investigation of the Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra confirmed the successful uniform coating. The transformation of relaxations was revealed by Mössbauer spectroscopy. Changes in saturation magnetization and remanent magnetization were observed using a vibrating sample magnetometer. The lowest coercivity value verified the soft nature of the ferrite material. The allocation of cations according to the change in composition was studied with the help of Mössbauer spectroscopy. The transition from ferromagnetic to paramagnetic behavior was also revealed. The real and imaginary parts of the complex permeability were computed from frequencies of 1 kHz to 120 MHz using an impedance analyzer. It was observed that the constant value up to a higher-frequency range makes the material suitable for storage device applications.

Abstract:The device formation in current technology demands effective magnetic materials. Cobalt ferrite nanoparticles were synthesized by the co–precipitations method using the precursor materials (Fe(No3)3 9H2O) and (Co(NO3)2 6H2O). X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis, and UV–Visible absorption spectral studies were used to analyze the structural, chemical/functional groups with possible stretching and optical bandgap properties of the CoFe2O4 powder. XRD results designate that the resultant particles are crystalline, pure single-phase spinel structure. From the FTIR analysis reveals that C-C, C=O stretching, and the shift is leaked indicating that the presence CoFe2O4. The absorption and the optical band gaps values are increased trend with temperatures also evidence that is enhancing magnetic behavior.

Abstract:Zinc-substituted cobalt ferrites Co1−xZnxFe2O4 (x = 0.0 to 0.7) nanoparticles have been synthesized using the hydrothermal method. The pure cubic spinel powder samples prepared were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy. It is found that the lattice parameter increases with Zn substitution. The average crystallite size of the particles decreases gradually from 20 to 10 nm with the increase in Zn-content, which is confirmed by transmission electron spectroscopy micrographs. The direct and indirect band gap of Co1−xZnxFe2O4 determined from UV–Vis measurements decreases with the increase of Zn concentration. The magnetic properties have been investigated by physical property measurement system and vibrating sample magnetometer. The saturation magnetization increases slightly from 71.38 emu g−1 (x = 0) to 77.59 emu g−1 (x = 0.1), then decrease with the increase in Zn substitution. Nevertheless, the coercivity significantly decreases with Zn concentrations, which can be explained using Yafet–Kittel model and the distribution of Fe3+ ions among octahedral and tetrahedral sites in samples. This result is further confirmed by photoluminescence emission spectra.

Abstract:Using the DFT+U method, we investigated the structural, magnetic, electronic, mechanical, thermal, optical, thermoelectric, and thermodynamic properties of the CoFe2O4 system. The GGA approximation was employed to calculate the exchange-correlation potential. The CoFe2O4 has a metallic bond and is ductile, as determined by Poisson's and Pugh's ratio mathematical calculations. Transport properties such as the figure of merit, thermal (k/τ) and electrical (σ/τ) conductivities, power factor, and Seebeck coefficient were computed to explain the thermal behavior of this spinel. Additionally, optical parameters like energy loss L(ω), absorption coefficient α(ω), dielectric constants ε(ω), optical conductivity σ(ω), reflectivity R(ω), extinction coefficient k(ω), and refractive index n(ω) are investigated. Lastly, we study how the magnetic phase transitions, magnetization, critical temperature, and specific heat capacity of this material are affected by an external magnetic field at constant pressure. Around the critical temperature, magnetic entropy and relative cooling capacity for various external magnetic fields are obtained.

Abstract:Fe–Co/CoFe2O4 nanocomposite and CoFe2O4 nanopowders were prepared by the hydrothermal method. The structure of magnetic powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction diffractometer (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermal gravity analysis (TGA) and differential thermal analysis (DTA) analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectrometry (XPS), and Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR) techniques, while magnetic properties were determined by using a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) at room temperature. The effects of hydrothermal reaction conditions on magnetic properties were also discussed in details. The values of saturation magnetization (Ms) and coercive fore (Hc) for Fe–Co/CoFe2O4 nanocomposite are 113emu/g and 1.4kOe, respectively. Furthermore, CoFe2O4 ferrite with a single-domain critical size of 70nm was fabricated by controlling the hydrothermal reaction conditions carefully, which presents high coercive force (ca. 4.6kOe) and high squareness ratio (ca. 0.65). One interesting thing is Ms value of CoFe2O4 ferrite with a diameter of 40nm is 86emu/g which is comparable to that of the bulk counterpart.

Abstract:In this paper, Sn-replaced Ni 0.6 Zn 0.4 Sn x Fe 2-x O 4 ( x = 0 ~ 0.2) ferrites were prepared by solid-phase reaction method and their properties were studied. It is beneficial to characterize the crystal structure by X-ray diffraction, and the microstructure of the sample can be observed by scanning electron microscope. The magnetic energy of the sample is measured using the BH analyzer. The experimental results show that the substitution of Sn is not to change the phase and microstructure of ferrite, but the valence state of the metal ion is adjusted. In addition, Sn substitution effectively reduces the eddy current loss of the sample. When x = 0.05, the eddy loss of the sample decreased by 31%.

Abstract:The sol-gel auto-combustion approach was used to create Ni0.4M0.2Zn0.4Fe2O4(M = Ni2+, Mg2+, and Co2+) nanoparticles. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and an inductance-capacitance-resistance (LCR) meter were used to analyse the samples' structural, elastic, and electrical properties. In all samples, the XRD patterns obtained indicated the formation of a monophasic cubic spinel structure with no identifiable impurity phase, which was supported by EDS investigations. The introduction of substituting ions, specifically Mg2+and Co2+, into Ni-Zn ferrite nanoparticles results in an increase in the lattice parameter. The lattice parameter for Ni-Zn is 8.377 Å, while for the substituted nanoparticles it is 8.389 and 8.388 Å for Mg2+and Co2+respectively. Additionally, the crystallite size of the substituted nanoparticles increases to 46.57 nm from 40.75 nm for Ni-Zn. However, the x-ray density of the substituted nanoparticles decreases to 5.180 and 5.337 g cm-3for Mg2+and Co2+respectively, from 5.358 g cm-3for Ni-Zn. The elastic parameters, such as the Young's modulus, Debye temperature, bulk modulus, and rigidity modulus, were calculated. The good elastic characteristics of Ni-Zn ferrite were confirmed and may be explained by the lower lattice parameter values and smaller crystallite sizes. Temperature and frequency effects on dielectric behaviour and AC electrical conductivity (σAC) were investigated. At ambient temperature, the dielectric characteristics, specifically the dielectric constant (ϵ') and loss tangent (tanδ), were computed over a frequency range of 100-2 MHz. The compositions display normal dielectric properties, which are attributed to the interfacial polarisation following the Maxwell-Wagner model. The AC conductivity of nanoparticles was shown to decrease when Mg2+and Co2+were substituted into Ni-Zn ferrite. Furthermore, the AC conductivity diminishes with decreasing frequency, which is a sign of ionic conductivity. There was a direct relationship between the temperature and the values ofϵ', tanδ, andσACfor different ions.

Abstract:The nanospinel ferrites co-doping with different valence ions have gained lot of interest in the last some years. In this study, we report influence of Zn 2+ –Ti 4+ co-doping on the structural, infrared, surface, magnetic, electric and dielectric parameters of nanoscale cobalt ferrite (CoFe 2 O 4 ). The series of the nanoparticles with generic composition as CoFe 2−2x Zn x Ti x O 4 nanoparticles were obtained by simple and robust sol gel auto combustion synthesis technique. The Rietveld refined X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns of all the samples revealed single-phase cubic spinel structure belonging to the typical spinel ferrites. Morphological analysis of the typical samples showed spherical shape like morphology with nanosize grains. Infrared studies reflected the occurrence of Me–O bond with two characteristics frequency bands analogous to octahedral and tetrahedral sites. The surface area values determined through BET analysis was found to be 34 m 2 /gm to 44 m 2 /gm. The M-H plots indicated ferrimagnetism with soft magnetic behaviour for all samples. The coercivity values were significantly decreased with increase in Zn 2+ –Ti 4+ co-doping in cobalt ferrite. The electrical studies showed increasing trend with increase in Zn 2+ –Ti 4+ co-doping for the resistivity. The dielectric analysis indicated the decreasing trend with increasing frequency as well as increase in Zn 2+ –Ti 4+ co-doping. The co-doping of Zn 2+ –Ti 4+ ion directs to the intriguing transformation in the features of cobalt ferrite nanoparticles appealing it for numerous application, for example, high frequency device applications, magnetic storage devices, biomedical field etc.

Abstract:This study investigated the electrochemical performance of the morphologically and structurally modified Co-doped ZnO nanocrystals synthesized via the chemical co-precipitation method. The structural properties were characterized by XRD, where the lattice parameters and volume got smaller with the increasing amount of Cobalt doping. The compositional analyses showed that 1.5 and 2.5 at% of Cobalt was present in the Co-doped ZnO nanocrystals. The FT-IR analyses showed that Zn-O (tetrahedral) and Zn-O (octahedral) vibrational modes are present for the precipitated ZnO-based nanocrystals. Besides that, the characteristic Raman spectra mode for ZnO displayed redshift, and more modes were activated, which showed a change in the defect chemistry after the cobalt substitution into the ZnO host lattice. A significant change was observed in morphology where the pristine ZnO formed nanoflower composed of nanoflakes and the Co-doped ZnO nanoparticles formed nanospheres. Lastly, cyclic voltammetry was performed at different scan rates where typical Faradic peaks were observed for all the samples, and the electrochemical performance was increased with the small amount of Co doping into the ZnO lattice. The samples showed improved pseudocapacitive behavior, suggesting that Cobalt doped ZnO nanoparticles synthesized via the chemical co-precipitation method can be a potential electrode material for pseudocapacitor applications.

Abstract:Zn 2+ substituted cobalt ferrite NPs (Zn x Co 1-x Fe 2 O 4 , 0 ≤ x ≤ 1, Diff. = 0.25) were synthesized through sol-gel chemical route, yielding nanostructures with a size distribution between 9-11 nm. The study reveals intriguing switching patterns in crystallite size (at x = 0.25) and lattice constant (at x = 0.50). Noteworthy findings include elevated specific surface area (up to 125 m 2 /g for x = 0.75) and electrical conductivity (up to 1164 Ω -1 m -1 for x = 1.00), as well as diminished dielectric tangent loss (up to 5.35×10 -7 for x = 0). The investigation also delves into specific optoelectronic parameters such as dispersion energy (1.01 to 33.05 eV), optical mobility (0.16-9.07×10 5 ), resistivity (2.40-28.21×10 -3 ), electronegativity (0.1782-3.5389), charge carrier concentration (2.82-122.13×10 15 cm -3 ), lattice dielectric constant (3.27-1283), and optical susceptibility [χ (1) = 0.01112-0.52492, χ (3) = 2.5990×10 -18 -1.2922×10 -11 esu]. Utilizing models such as Sellmeier, Cauchy-Sellmeier, Wemple DiDomenico, and Miller and Wang, distinct switching behaviors in these parameters were observed, suggesting promising applications in energy conservation and supercapacitor technologies. Nyquist and Cole-Cole plots of the prepared samples further highlight the significant contributions of conductive grains and resistive grain boundaries to the hopping phenomenon within the nanomaterial in accordance with Koop's theory. This research opens avenues for the exploration of advanced materials with multifaceted applications with special focus on optoelectrical and nonlinear optoelectronic properties of Zn x Co 1-x Fe 2 O 4 .
