Abstract:The goal of this study is to see how (1) work satisfaction affects employee retention and (2) career development affects employee retention at Hotel Prime Plaza Kualanamu. This study takes a quantitative method. The population and sample are comprised of 42 employees from Hotel Prime Plaza Kualanamu, drawn using a saturation sampling technique. Job satisfaction (X1) and career development (X2) are the independent variables, whereas employee retention (Y) is the dependent variable. Simple linear regression analysis and multiple linear regression analysis are used to analyse the data, which is processed using the IBM SPSS Statistics 25 test tool. This study found that (1) work satisfaction has a favourable and significant effect on employee retention. This is supported by the t test findings, which show that work satisfaction variables are Thitung 3.360 > Ttabel 2.203 and sig = 0.000 0.050. (2) Career development has a large and favourable impact on employee retention. This is supported by the t test findings, which show that work satisfaction variables are Thitung 6.220 > Ttabel 2.203 and sig = 0.000 0.050.

Abstract:This research is motivated by the fact that the turnover rate is relatively high. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is an effect of Work engagement on Turnover Intention mediated by Job satisfaction at Whiz Prime Hotel at Padang. This research is causal associative research with a quantitative data approach, using a survey method. Employees at the Whiz Prime Hotel Padang who stayed there for more than a year make up the study's demographic. 41 participants made up the study's sample. The method of sampling is targeted sampling. Employees were given questionnaires including 41 statements, each of which had its validity and reliability examined. The method of data analysis employed in this investigation uses the Smart PLS 3.0 program. (1) There is a strong and favorable correlation between the job engagement and job satisfaction variables, according to the findings of data processing research using 41 samples that were tested for validity and reliability. (2) The impact of labor input on sales intent is negative and considerable at Whiz Prime Padang. (3) There is a negative and substantial relationship between factors measuring work satisfaction and quitting intention. (4) At Whiz Prime Hotel Padang, job satisfaction serves as a mediator between work input and sales intent, and this effect is negative and significant. According to the research, the hotel can improve employee job satisfaction and engagement in order to lower the likelihood of employee turnover in an organization. (5) It is suggested that the hotel encourage work engagement and job happiness to lessen occurrence of turnover intention in a firm because job satisfaction has the capacity to mediate elements affecting work engagement and turnover intention
Examining the Impact of Organizational Commitment on Job Stress and Turnover Intention in The Malaysian Hotel Industry

Abstract:The hotel sector has played a significant role in supporting Malaysia's economic growth by providing accommodation to tourists and complementing the tourism industry. However, Malaysia has experienced high turnover rates in the hotel industry. Therefore, it is essential to conduct research to address this issue. This study aims to examine the impact of job stress on turnover intention among hotel employees and explore whether organizational commitment acts as a mediating factor in this relationship. This quantitative cross-sectional study collected primary data from 107 employees working in hotels in Kuala Lumpur and Ipoh using convenience sampling. The collected data was analysed using various statistical techniques in the SPSS statistical package. The results indicated that job stress was a significant predictor of turnover intention, but organizational commitment did not have a mediating effect in this relationship. The study raises awareness among employers in the hotel industry regarding the impact of job stress on their employees. Consequently, the discussion and implications section offer several suggestions to address this problem.

Abstract:Employees’ happiness is important for retaining hotel staff because of the nature of their long working hours. Grounded in the Fredrick motivational theory. The survey aimed to ascertain the association between “job satisfaction and turnover intention” in hotel operational staff in the Accra metropolitan area. Using the factor analysis data techniques, four main underlying factors including “pay, supervision, promotion as well as training and advancement” were found to have explained hotel employees’ job happiness in the Accra metropolis. The correlation analysis demonstrated a negative association between job satisfaction and the intentions for turnover. The recommendation to managers is that this situation can be address by paying hotel worker with good salaries/wages as their reward whilst creating opportunities for promotion.

Abstract:The hotel industry is rapidly expanding, needing more employees. The high demand for employees may lead to tighter competition in the job market, increasing employee turnover. This study aims to provide statistical evidence about the role of job stress, job insecurity, and compensation in explaining turnover intention among hotel employees. Primary data related to hotel employees' perceptions were collected using an online survey. The survey involved 135 employees of Jakarta's five-star hotels. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) to test three research hypotheses. The analysis results show that job stress and job insecurity positively relate to turnover intention in the hotel industry, whereas compensation is negatively associated with turnover intention. The finding could provide insight for hotel managers on reducing employee turnover. It also contributes to the upward literature on the hospitality and tourism industry.

Abstract:This study is conducted to examine two issues : First, to examine the work environment factors that influence job satisfaction among executive level employees in the public sector organizations in Malaysia ; second, to examine the effect of job satisfaction on turnover intention. The data of this study have been collected through survey. The respondents are 212 executive level employees. The data have been analyzed using a structural equation modeling technique. In summary, there are five work environment factors that influence job satisfaction among executive level employees in this context. The factors include perceived organizational support, training, coworker support, participative leadership style and work stress. In addition, this study provides empirical evidence about the role of job satisfaction as a factor that can decrease turnover intention, especially among executive level employees in the public sector organizations in Malaysia.

Abstract:This study aimed to investigate the impact of hotel employees’ perceived job embeddedness on job satisfaction, self-efficacy, turnover intention, job performance, and job commitment. The results showed that job embeddedness partially increased job satisfaction, while job satisfaction and self-efficacy reduced turnover intention and increased job performance and job commitment. Furthermore, job satisfaction and self-efficacy were found to play an important mediating role. Therefore, the theoretical framework, based on the results of this study, clearly demonstrated the causal relationship between the given variables, and adequately describes the goals of this study. The theoretical/practical implications are discussed in detail in the conclusion.

Abstract:This study aims to determine the effect of job satisfaction and compensation on the employee turnover rate of Hotel Feodora Airport Palembang. This research carried out on all employees using a saturated sample technique of 132 people. The primary data of this study were obtained through questionnaires and processed using a quantitative approach with the SPSS statistical test tool version 25.00 For Windows. based on results the research conducted found that the variable job satisfaction (X1) and Compensation (X2) has a negative and significant effect on the turnover rate Employees of Hotel Feodora Airport Palembang (Y). Linear regression test results is obtained the value of the coefficient of job satisfaction (X1) of -0.786 and the value compensation regression coefficient (X2) of -0.183 with a significance level of 0.000 < 0.05. T test results variable of job satisfaction (X1) of -13.853 and compensation (X2) of -4.113 with a significance level of 0.000 < 0.05 partially job satisfaction and compensation have a negative and significant effect on the turnover rate. The results of the F test obtained F count of 204.419 with the level significance of 0.000 < 0.05 which means that simultaneously job satisfaction (X1) and compensation (X2) have a negative and significant effect on the turnover rate.

Abstract:An employee is a company's lifeblood. The firm's success or failure is determined on employee performance. To improve employee performance and loyalty, senior management recognizes the need of investing in employee happiness and growth. This conceptual research examined the factor influence turnover in the Cosmo Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A theoretical framework and model linked to employee turnover intention are also discussed, as well as variables influencing staff turnover in Cosmo Hotel. A questionnaire containing 24 items was given to 97 hotel employees of various levels. The technique utilized in this research was to randomly choose workers from the company and ask them for their personal opinion. The paper ends with recommendations for future research by using various degree of analysis on investigating the impact of turnover intention. This research also found a link between employee turnover intention and behaviour, which may be used in both theory and practice.

Abstract:The study examined the role of high-performance work systems in reducing turnover intention within the tourism sector of Kuala Lumpur and the mediation effect of organisational justice and job embeddedness. A quantitative design was applied to the data collected from 112 rank-and-file employees of Kuala Lumpur restaurants. The findings revealed that employee relations, performance management, and appraisal reduced employee turnover intention. The findings contributed to the literature by highlighting the mediation effects of job embeddedness and organisational justice. Moreover, the current study emphasised the importance of promoting employee workplace practices that foster high-performance work systems to retain talented employees. The findings also provide implications for the tourism sector and organisations and reveal the significance of policies and practices to ensure high-performance work systems, organisational justice, and job embeddedness in increasing employee retention and reducing turnover intention.

Abstract:Purpose This study aims to provide a critical reflection research that was carried out to understand more fully how employee turnover has been critical to hotel management's strategies for constructing a better workplace. Human resources decisions need to be made carefully based on a clear grasp of their effects on hotels and their staff. Design/methodology/approach A critical review was conducted with a sample of 160 academic papers that reported findings on staff turnover intentions in hotels. Findings The results include a concept map that highlights the two main dimensions found by researchers: hotel staff turnover consequences (i.e. customer satisfaction and financial performance) and antecedents (i.e. individual, job-related, relationship, organisational and opportunities). Research limitations/implications The findings underline that staff retention strategies need to focus on managing job-related, organisational and relationship variables as hotel managers have little influence on individual and job opportunity factors. Originality/value This study examined 20 years of research summarised in an up-to-date conceptual map. The findings have cross-disciplinary implications.

Abstract:This study aims to examine the effect of compensation, work environment, and job satisfaction to the turnover intention, partially and simultaneously. This type of study is associative research. Technique data collection using observation, interviews, and questionnaires. Population in this study were all employees as many as 60 employees. Sampling technique using probability sampling. The research variables consisted of 3 (three) variables independent namely compensation (X1), work environment (X2), and job satisfaction (X3) and the dependent variable, namely turnover intention (Y). The data were obtained by distributing 60 questionnaires to the respondents who were at Hotel The Chandi Boutique Resorts & Spa. Data analysis technique used is multiple linear regression analysis. The results of the study show that the compensation variable of work environmental, and job satisfaction partially have a significant opposite direction effect on turnover intention. Variable compensation, work environment, and job satisfaction simultaneously has a significant effect on turnover intention. Result this study is also able to show that the independent variables (compensation, work environment, job satisfaction ) are able to explain the dependent variable, (turnover intention ) of 67%, while the remaining 33% turnover intention is influenced by other variables outside of compensation, work environment, job satisfaction

Abstract:Employees are a fundamental component of service delivery in hotels. With the outbreak of the pandemic, it has led to significant staff turnovers in the hotel industry in Malaysia. The question is, how to manage and retain the existing talent in the industry, considering that regular travel will be back to normal post the pandemic. The purpose of this study is to identify the extent to which intrinsic factors influence job motivation of employees in the hotel industry in Malaysia, narrowing down to a case study on THKL, a five-star hotel in Kuala Lumpur where staff turnovers have also been a significant concern lately. To fulfil the purpose of the study, a conceptual framework was developed based on past models and theories of human motivation to derive four intrinsic factors that formed the basis of the four hypotheses that were tested via the conduct of a quantitative mode of research. A total of 99 employees of THKL successfully completed the quantitative questionnaires. To analyse the data collected, SmartPLS version 3.3.3 was employed. The findings revealed that having a sense of purpose at work is positively related to job motivation, for both the white-collar and blue-collar respondents. The need for competence was also positively related to job motivation amongst the blue-collar respondents. However, both autonomy and relatedness need were found to have a negative relationship with job motivation, both for the white-collar and blue-collar respondents. In conclusion, the hotel management can explore the possibility of enhancing their employees’ sense of purpose at work. The hotel can also provide additional educational qualifications to the blue-collar employees who are seeking to improve their competency. Additionally, the hotel leadership can work towards evolving the purpose of the organization for it to become a purpose driven organization.

Abstract:The hotel industry is in a state of perpetual change due to the emergence of covid-19, high competition, and the economic crisis. Based on that situation, this research study discusses the effects of Job Insecurity and Job Stress on Turnover Intention and also the mediating role of Job Stress. A total of 150 surveys were conducted in stars hotel in DKI Jakarta by adapting non-probability sample using purposive sampling technique. This research study was used the Structural Equation Model and processed with Structural Positive and Equation Model (SEM) Partial Least Square (Smart PLS) software to test the hypotheses in a mediation model with the bootstrapping method. The result presents that job insecurity was insignificant toward turnover intention while job stress was positive and significant toward turnover intention, job insecurity was positive and significant toward job stress, and mediating relationship was also confirmed.

Abstract:This study was designed to identify the intricate associations among emotional rewards (compliment, opportunity, empowerment, and recognition), material rewards (promotion, certificate, incentive, and special leave), job satisfaction, burnout, affective commitment, job performance, and turnover intention in the hotel sector. A field survey method with a quantitative approach was used. Our results from multiple regression analysis revealed that emotional and material rewards and their dimensions are of importance in the formation of affective commitment, job performance, and turnover intention. In addition, findings from the series of mediation analysis revealed that job satisfaction and burnout played a complete/partial mediating role within the proposed theoretical framework. Overall, this research can help hotel researchers better understand the role of rewards and help practitioners develop an efficient reward system for hotel employees.

Abstract:High turnover intention in employees will have a negative impact on a company which results in ineffective productivity and company resources. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of work conflict and work stress on turnover intention of hotel employees. The sample in this study are hotel employees who work in Makassar City with a total of 70 respondents. Collecting data by distributing questionnaires using a Likert scale with 5 points to measure 19 indicators. The analysis technique used is multiple linear regression. The results showed that work conflict and work stress together affect turnover intention. work conflict had a positive and significant effect on turnover intention. Abstract:This study examines the impact of soft training and development initiatives on employee engagement, job satisfaction, and employee turnover, with a particular focus on the mediating role of job satisfaction. Utilizing purposive sampling, the research gathered data from diverse industries through online surveys, focusing on participants' experiences with training and development programs. The study employed descriptive analysis and regression analysis using SPSS to explore the relationships between the variables. Multiple regression and mediation analyses were employed to test the proposed hypotheses. The findings indicate a significant positive relationship between soft training and job satisfaction, suggesting that soft training initiatives enhance employees' job satisfaction. Additionally, a negative relationship was observed between job satisfaction and turnover intentions, indicating that higher job satisfaction is associated with lower turnover intentions. The mediation analysis revealed that job satisfaction partially mediates the relationship between soft training and turnover intentions. This implies that while soft training directly reduces turnover intentions, it also indirectly contributes to this reduction by enhancing job satisfaction. These results underscore the importance of investing in soft training programs to foster job satisfaction and subsequently reduce employee turnover. This study contributes to the existing literature by highlighting the critical role of job satisfaction as a mediator in the relationship between training and development initiatives and turnover intentions. Practical implications for HR practitioners and organizational leaders include the strategic implementation of soft training programs to enhance job satisfaction and minimize turnover, thereby promoting a more stable and engaged workforce.
Influence of role stress on employees' turnover intention in hotel industry: job satisfaction and task performance as mediators

Abstract:Job turnover is commonly faced by organisations in many industries. Implications such as resources wastage and low productivity are often derived from turnover issues. Significantly, turnover intention is found as the best predictor for actual turnover in previous studies. This extends some insights on turnover intention in Malaysia context. The number of hotels in Malaysia increases year by year due to the booming tourism industry. However, employees’ turnover intention continues to rise. This phenomenon is alarming because it affects organisational growth, profitability and customer satisfaction. This study examines the influence of stress role on employees’ turnover intention in the hotel industry, imposing job satisfaction and task performance as mediators and demographic factors as moderators which can implicate the relationship between the role of stress and job satisfaction as well as on task performances. An integrated turnover process model with one predicting variable (role stress), two mediating variables (job satisfaction and task performance) and moderating factors (gender, age, education and marital status) are presented in this study based on the job of characteristics model and Herzberg theory. In addition, this study attempts to model the differing relationships among the studied variables based on five different departments (front office, food and beverage/kitchen, housekeeping, sales and marketing and human resource). Data was collected by using self-administered surveys from a total of 220 employees from eight five-star rated hotels in the East-Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Descriptive, exploratory factor analysis, reliability, correlation, multiple regression analysis and hierarchical regression analysis were conducted to analyze the data. Findings showed that the role conflict, role load and job satisfaction are significantly related to turnover intention but role ambiguity and task performance did not have any significant relationship with turnover intentions. On the other hand, job satisfaction was found to have fully mediated the relationship between role of ambiguity and turnover intention; however, task performance did not mediate the relationship. Practical implications and avenues for future research are discussed.

Abstract:Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore hotel employees’ views on how human resource management (HRM) practices influence their turnover intentions. Design/methodology/approach The data for this empirical study were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews with 15 employees who had experience of working in various hotels in Macau, China. The thematic analysis approach was carried out to analyze the interview data and interpret the findings. Findings The findings of this study demonstrate that although employee-oriented human resource policies and practices are favored, the way HR department handles and implement those policies are valued more by hotel employees. Furthermore, the retention of an organizational culture that helps create a feeling of ownership among employees is highly influenced by employees’ turnover intentions. The current study demonstrates that the HR department in hotels holds a powerful position, and therefore, hotel employees expect their HR department to play greater and proactive roles in the HRM apart from providing equitable opportunities for their growth. This implication is particularly important for Integrated Resorts where a large number of employees collectively work to serve a range of customers who visit hotels for a variety of purposes. Practical implications This study suggests that addressing employees’ needs particularly those related to resolving complaints and managing relationships with other colleagues and providing opportunities for employees’ family members to take part in the organization’s activities and use its facilities are important practices that HR department can initiate to encourage employees’ engagement in hotels. Furthermore, the study shows that managers need to understand their employees’ perspectives as they can help resolve problems at the root level where they grow, and send a signal to the employees that the management is genuinely interested in resolving their problems and making them happy and satisfied. Originality/value Although several studies have provided valuable insights into the relationship between HRM practices and employee turnover intentions, most of those studies have used quantitative approaches to collect and analyze data. Furthermore, almost none of the findings were derived from the hotel sector. This study explores hotel employees’ views on the relationship between HRM practices and employee turnover intention using qualitative methods.

Abstract:Purpose: The loss of skilled workers is one of the negative effects of the high turnover rates that the hospitality sector is currently experiencing. Turnover intention refers to an employee's desire to relocate or quit their position. There are several organizational disruptions brought on by this staff turnover. The purpose of this study is to test a research model empirically by examining how job security, perceived organizational support, and transformational leadership affect the intention to leave a company. Theoretical framework: This study employs the Social Exchange Theory, which posits that a balanced exchange occurs between two parties, with recipients typically responding positively when the giver provides something valuable. In line with this concept, the research aims to explore how factors such as job security, perceived organizational support, and transformational leadership influence individuals' inclination to remain in their current employment. Method/design/approach: Quota sampling, which establishes a quota depending on the percentage of each hotel, is the sample method employed. Analysis employing Partial Least Squares was used in this study. In order to ensure that the computations are spread equally, the analysis's findings determine the proportion of the demographic conditions of each employee respondent at 4-star hotels. Consequently, a total of 176 respondents were gathered from the sampling, comprising 123 male and 53 female employees, with the majority falling between the 20–25 age range. Results and conclusion: The findings suggest a positive association between the desire to leave a company and factors such as perceived organizational support, transformational leadership, and job security. Interestingly, the results indicate that enhancing job security could potentially decrease the inclination to leave. However, the study did not uncover significant effects of transformational leadership or perceived organizational support on turnover intention. Research implications: Provide new references in theoretical studies, especially on turnover intention behavior, especially in the hospitality sector. Originality/value: Establish a new measurement mechanism in an effort to reduce turnover intention using different antasedent variables.
