Abstract:PURPOSE This study presents a policy proposal to integrate the National Sports Festival and sport-specific competitions into a broader national balanced development plan, particularly targeting regions facing potential obsolescence.METHODS Applying both balanced growth theory and unbalanced growth theory, we analyzed the issue through a comprehensive review of the literature, encompassing both domestic and international cases.RESULTS Our findings lead to several key conclusions and policy recommendations. Firstly, we recommend the relocation of the National Sports Festival hosting rights to regions at risk of becoming obsolete. Secondly, we propose the designation of specific venues for each sport event. Thirdly, we emphasize the development of sports events that uniquely characterize specific regions. Fourthly, we suggest engaging local residents of host cities to form a robust sports event support staff. Fifthly, we advocate for the enhancement of local accommodation facilities. Lastly, we envision the transformation of the National Sports Festival into a “Korea Open” event.CONCLUSIONS This study holds significance in its contribution to national balanced development through the strategic utilization of sports events, such as national sports festivals.

Research on Coordination and Driving Factors of Sports Industry and Regional Sustainable Development—Empirical Research Based on Panel Data of Provinces and Cities in Eastern China

Abstract:The steady and healthy development of the sports industry can promote regional sustainable development. In order to explore the coordination situation and driving factors between the sports industry and regional sustainable development, this article builds a coupling coordination evaluation index system and dynamic factor index system for the sports industry and regional sustainable development. Using the entropy method, coupling coordination model and random effect model, this article analyzes the comprehensive level, coupling coordination relationship and driving factors of the sports industry and regional sustainable development in eleven provinces and cities in eastern China, from 2013 to 2017. The results show that the comprehensive level of the sports industry and regional sustainable development in eastern China is showing a steady growth trend, and the sports industry is growing faster than regional sustainable development. The degree of coupling coordination among provinces and cities has increased significantly, but the spillover effects of coupling coordination in each region are not obvious. The level of overall coupling coordination is primary coordination; regional innovation, industrial structure upgrade, and human capital can promote the improvement of coupling coordination. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen cross-regional cooperation, build a cross-regional “sports+” industry group, give play to the “sports +” spillover effect, create a coupling platform for the sports industry and regional sustainable development, release the superimposed effect of multiple driving factors, and facilitate the evolution of coupling coordination to higher levels.

Abstract:Given resource constraints,local governments are inevitably involved in competitive games in pursuit of self-interest maximization.We have constructed a two-level game analysis framework and concluded that in two-period repeated games,refined Nash equilibrium for cooperative subgames between local governments is achievable.Therefore,in order to achieve regional Pareto optimal allocation of resources and avoid the Prisoner's Dilemma,local governments should combine their comparative advantages in a complementary way through a unified coordination mechanism for overall dynamic balanced long-term economic growth.

Abstract:This study aims to explore the role of large-scale sports events in promoting urban economic development, taking the Hangzhou Asian Games as an example. The research motivation stems from interest in the potential impact of sporting events on urban economies. This article adopts the method of literature review and collects primary and secondary materials to conduct an in-depth analysis of previous cases of holding large-scale sports events and their post-match utilization. Large-scale sports events can not only drive growth in various fields such as tourism, catering, and retail, but also enhance a city's image and popularity. At the same time, organizers also need to pay attention to balancing the input-output ratio, formulate scientific and reasonable plans and do management work, and solve their post-game venue utilization problems to improve their venue utilization, give full play to the long-term economic benefits of the stadium after the game, create post-game income, and promote the long-term sustainable development of the urban economy.

Abstract:Abstract There exists an important connection between the development of the sports economy and the development of spatial characteristics, but the current development of spatial characteristics of sports economic linkages suffers from the lack of identification and screening of the subjects of interest and the inability to articulate the structure of the interests of each subject. The article adopts the research paradigm based on rooted theory to encode the game phenomenon of the spatial characteristics of sports economic linkages and constructs an evolutionary game model that integrates the sports administrative regulator, the supply side of community public sports services, and the demand side. The optimal equilibrium strategy to promote the sustainable development of urban community public sports services spatial governance is also explored by combining the Jacobian matrix and simulation experiments. Although the tripartite subjects play different dynamic roles at different stages of transformation, they all converge to the steady state of (1, 1, 1) in the end. In addition, the three have different evolutionary processes. First, the probability of choosing the support strategy in the economic core area decreases and then rises, while the probability of government support and mass recognition both increase. The economic core area, government support, and mass recognition are all experiencing a gradual increase. Finally, the probability of mass recognition shows a first decline and then a rise, while the probability of economic core area and government support continues to show an increase, and the three finally evolve into a (1, 1, 1) strategy steady state.

Abstract:This study developed an exploration model for sport event image fit to predict and explain the place image and quality of life in order to achieve sustainable development goals in rural communities. To validate the model, 294 valid resident responses from a rural community that hosted a sporting event in Taiwan were analyzed with partial least squares structural equations modeling (PLS-SEM). The results showed that image fit contributes to the social environment, entertainment services, and quality of life; four place image dimensions had a significantly positive effect on quality of life. The exploration model was validated, contributing to the knowledge related to Sustainable Development Goals 3 and 11.

Abstract:Background: The organization of a sports event can be analyzed from the perspective of its impact on the participants, organizers and community. University championships have a sustainable character, with several tournaments being planned over time, receiving increased interest from all stakeholders. Methods: This research aimed to describe aspects regarding the organization and planning of sports events, the academic and professional profiles of student-athletes and the implications of their participation in championships. We used two research methods: one based on geography, and another based on a sociological survey of 139 dual-career students participating in the national university championship of men's football and women's volleyball organized by the University of Oradea (Romania). Results: The research results show that academic studies provide professional competencies, while participation in sports events contributes to students' personal and professional development. The results highlight that dual-career students are more prone to develop their sports careers; therefore, participation in these types of events represents a milestone in their careers. Conclusions: Our study can be considered when organizing these types of sports events and can provide directions for the development of sustainable strategies and programs to support students with dual careers.

Abstract:Against the background of surging globalization and accelerating urbanization, more and more cities are choosing to reposition their urban landscape by hosting sports events at different levels to achieve a great leap forward in urban development. Major sporting events can quickly gather various resources from all over the country and even the world for a city, promoting it to become a world-famous city with international influence. In the twenty-first century, more and more Chinese cities are bidding to host important sporting events at different levels, but historical experience shows that hosting slightly important sporting events is a “double-edged sword” and economic benefits are no longer the main reason for a city to host an event. Using the SWOT-PEST model, this paper provides an in-depth analysis of the advantages, disadvantages, opportunities, and challenges of marginally important sporting events of different levels affecting the regional economy from political, economic, social, and technological aspects, so as to understand in detail the economic impact of sporting events.

Abstract:Grass-roots sports events in the context of the new era are gradually becoming an important influence on the conditions of urban economic development, accompanied by the introduction and practice of relevant strategies and national development goals. Sport is becoming an increasingly important part of people's daily healthy lives. In-depth studies have found that the organization of sports events can lead to the development of related industries, and there is an important catalyst for urban economic development. However, the organization of grassroots sports events and how to truly leverage the role of sports events as a catalyst for urban development faces a series of huge problems. Therefore, government departments relevant organizations, and even individuals need to make concerted efforts to support the operation and development of urban grassroots sports events through specific and effective methods, to strengthen win-win cooperation, to attach importance to the positive role of sports events in urban development, and ultimately to give full play to the role of grassroots sports events in the context of the new era in the promotion of the city's economic development.

Research on the Resilience Evaluation and Spatial Correlation of China's Sports Regional Development Under the New Concept

Abstract:In order to fully implement the new development concept, bring into full play the potential of sports development, and maintain the resilience of China's sports development. This paper studies the resilience evaluation and spatial correlation of Chinese sports development under the new development concept. First, we constructed Resilience Evaluation Indexes System for Sports Development in China based on the analysis of the resilience features of sports development and the DPSIR model, which is from the five aspects of "driving force - pressure - state - influence - response." Second, used Coefficient of Variation and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to an Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) Method to measure the resilience level of sports development in 31 provinces in China from 2013 to 2017. Then, we introduced the obstacle degree model to identify the obstacle factors that hinder the resilience of Chinese sports development in different periods. Finally, we used the global and local Moran indexes to analyze the spatial correlation of China sports regional development. The results showed that: (1) overall, the development level of sports resilience in 31 provinces in China showed an upward trend from 2013 to 2017, while some provinces showed obvious fluctuations. (2) The obstacles to the development of sports resilience in China mainly include sports scientific research equipment, the number of national fitness monitoring stations, the number of national fitness centers, the full-time equivalent of (R&D) personnel, and the number of sports scientific research projects. The response subsystem is the main obstacle factor that affects the improvement of the resilience level of sports development in China. (3) There is a positive spatial autocorrelation between the resilience level of sports development and regional spatial distribution, and the correlation shows a weakening trend, and the internal difference is significant. Finally, we concluded that we must take the new development philosophy as the guiding principle. First, we should stick to innovation-driven development to fully upgrade the resilience of China's sports development. Second, we should adhere to the principle of coordinated development to promote the overall and balanced development of sports. Lastly, we should promote shared development so as to deliver benefits for all in an equal way.

Abstract:Globally, sports tourism is considered a vital type of tourism that combines sports and tourism to attract tourists, contribute to the economy, and promote local culture. Despite its straightforward relevance, the current literature finds some drawbacks of the social exchange theory (SET) in modeling local support in tourism development, particularly when dealing with emotional interactions among tourists and locals. Thus, this study integrates the emotional solidarity construct (i.e., welcoming nature, sympathetic understanding, and emotional closeness), residents' attitudes, and the extension of SET (i.e., support for sports tourism, community contribution, and future support for sports tourism development) to model the residents' support for future sports tourism development, with personality traits as a moderating variable between emotional solidarity and attitude. This study uses random sampling to obtain the response from 1004 residents in Danao City (Philippines)—an emerging destination for sporting events. Furthermore, partial least squares—structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) is utilized to examine the direct relationships among the exogenous and endogenous constructs and the moderating effect of personality traits (i.e., Big Five personality traits). The results revealed that all direct relationships were supported, indicating that those emotional interactions among tourists and residents would affect the latter's view on their support for sports tourism which would consequently translate to support for future development agenda. However, the moderating effect of the personality traits was not supported. Furthermore, a multigroup analysis was conducted to gain more profound implications on the varying attitudes of the residents towards sports tourism. Based on the study's findings, insights were drawn for governments to design specific measures for developing sports tourism in view of local support.

Abstract:Research on the social impact of sports events mainly explores the role of sports events on community cohesion, economic development, cultural exchanges and other aspects. Research on the actual situation of rural sports development in China, especially the characteristics and problems of rural sports development in China, needs to be improved. In this study, the impact of rural sports on regional society in Shishi City of Quanzhou is taken as an example, and other regions of Quanzhou City are selected as a control group, and a double difference model is used to conduct a shock test. It is concluded that the development of rural sports events has a significant effect on the development of tertiary industry in Shishi City. Meanwhile, suggestions to promote the development of rural sports are put forward in the hope of promoting the development of regional sports.

Abstract:<span>The purpose of this study is to investigate how local residents perceive the impact of the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games. A total of 407 residents participated in this study. The results revealed that economic, infrastructure, and tourism impacts positively affected local sustainable development, and cultural exchange had a positive effect on community attachment. Moreover, local sustainable development had a significant positive effect on community attachment. The findings of this study provide insight into the perceived impacts of host communities in developing regions.</span>

Abstract:In recent years, local governments in China pay more and more attention to regional economic competitiveness for they begin to take the responsibility of developing local economy. Therefore, the study of relationships between regional finance and regional economy has become an important issue.Here, we briefly review literature on the relationship between regional finance and regional economy and illustrate the specific mechanisms and patterns by which regional finance influences regional economy, discuss the empirical results of impacts of regional financial development on regional economic competitiveness, and propose the policy implications. We empirically investigate two empirical models on the relationship between regional financial development and regional economic competitiveness in Zhejiang province. The empirical results are consistent with previous evidence that financial regional development is positively related to regional economic competitiveness. The findings are quite useful for local government to make policies.

Abstract:The current study intends to evaluate the link between the affects observed by citizens on athletic events, the perception of their contribution to municipalities' sustainable development, and support for their celebration. A total of 2049 inhabitants from the Valencian Community's three provincial capitals (Spain) took part in this study, which used a stratified random sample with proportionate allocation. The causal association model fit well, with RMSEA = 0.044, NNFI = 0.94, CFI = 0.95, and IFI = 0.95. The study's findings demonstrate that residents' perceptions of the positive and negative impacts caused by sporting events in their communities are an antecedent that explains how these events contribute to sustainable urban development. A positive relationship between perceived sustainable development and support for the hosting of sport events in these localities was also found. These results highlight the need to promote sustainable management development of any sporting event to increase local support from the residents.

Abstract:Despite the known contribution of sports events to cities, especially affected by COVID-19 pandemic, residents hold different attitudes to this, for some citizens, sports events continue to play a vital role in cities sustainable development and may contribute to improved life condition and infrastructure in cities, but others do not think so. Although the benefits of sports events are commonly reported, the reasons why some cities and citizens willing to hold sports events are not well understood. This systematic review aimed to identify studies from the literature that the importance of sport mega-events in cities sustainable development synthesize and discuss the reasons for willing to hold sports events reported in the literature. Searches of the e-journal databases including Science Direct, Sport Discus, Scopus, Social Science Citation Index and Arts & Humanities Citation Index were performed. Studies were included that evaluated importance of sports events in cities sustainable development and residents’ attitudes because this is the key point to promote sports events development. The studies included in this review used qualitative, quantitative or mixed methods designs, were peer reviewed, and were published in the English language before the search date. Results: There are 2036 studies identified and after exclusions 30 studies were included in the review (9 qualitative, 10 quantitative, and 11 mixed methods). The review presents several features and findings from the studies, including a description and systematization the role of sports mega-events for cities sustainable development and the main reasons that cities and citizens willing to hold sports events (e.g. increasing job chances, improving the visibility of the city, and taking advantage of opportunities to develop economy). The finding suggest that sports events are an integral part of sustainable development of the city, and sports mega-events were identified as contributing to the city development. Cities and citizens can benefit from various sports events with regard to their development. Sports events play an important role in the sustainable development of cities, and contribute to the political, economic and cultural development of the city. The development of sports events and strategies to promote sustainable urban development should focus on these aspects after COVID-19.
Analysis on spatial difference and spillover effect of development resilience index of sports industry: A case study of 285 cities in China

Abstract:The sustainable development of the sports industry has garnered extensive attention worldwide. In this study, after a rigorous explanation of the connotation of the sports industry development resilience coefficient (SIDRC), the Topsis model and exploratory spatial data analysis were comprehensively employed to evaluate and visualize the SIDRC of 285 cities in China. Additionally, a spatial econometric model was constructed to explore the influencing factors of SIDRC. The major conclusions drawn from this study are as follow: (1) While the SIDRC has improved significantly over the study period, it still remains overall at a low level of resilience with a widening gap between cities. (2) A strong spatial imbalance exists in the distribution of SIDRC, with coastal regions demonstrating greater resilience compared to the central and western regions, and provincial capital cities faring better than other cities. (3) Policy support index, economic development level, structural diversity of the sports industry, and social participation play crucial roles in promoting SIDRC. Finally, social participation has a positive impact on SIDRC in neighboring cities by facilitating resource sharing, market expansion, and extending the industrial chain. The paper concludes by offering recommendations such as increasing the construction of sports markets and public participation, which can optimize the layout of the sports industry and enhance industrial development resilience.
