Abstract:The novel non-linear semiorganic Bisglycine Lithium Nitrate (BGLiN) single crystals were grown by slow evaporation technique. The structural analysis revealed that it belongs to non-centrosymmetric orthorhombic structure. The presence of various functional groups in the grown crystal was confirmed by FTIR and Raman analysis. Surface morphology of the grown crystal was studied by scanning electron microscopy. The optical studies show that crystal has good transmittance (more than 80%) in the entire visible region and a wide band gap (5.17eV). The optical constants such as extinction coefficient (K), the reflectance (R) and refractive index (n) as a function of photon energy were calculated from the optical measurements. With the help of these optical constants the electric susceptibility (χc) and both the real (εr) and imaginary (εi) parts of the dielectric constants were also calculated which are required to develop optoelectronic devices. In photoluminescence studies, a broad emission band centered at 404nm was found in addition to a small band at 352nm. A broad transition (from 29 to 33°C) was observed with low dielectric constant value. A high piezoelectric charge coefficient (d33) of 14pC/N was measured at room temperature which implies its usefulness for various sensor applications. The second harmonic generation efficiency of crystal was found to be 1.5times to that of KDP. From thermo gravimetric analysis and differential thermal analysis, thermal stability and melting point (246°C) were investigated. The dielectric behavior, optical characterization, piezoelectric behavior and the non-linear optical properties of the Bisglycine Lithium Nitrate single crystals were reported for the first time which established the usefulness of these crystals for various piezo- and opto-electronics applications.

Abstract:Chiral organic optoelectronics using circularly polarized light (CPL) as the key element in the photonic signal has recently emerged as a next-generation photonic technology. However, it remains challenging to simultaneously achieve high polarization selectivity and superior optoelectronic performance. Supramolecular two-dimensional (2D) chiral organic single crystals may be, good candidates for this purpose due to their defect-free nature, molecular diversity, and morphologies. Here, quasi-2D single crystals of chiral perylene diimides with parallelogram and triangle/hexagon morphologies have been selectively fabricated via self-assembly using different cosolvent systems. These materials exhibit amplified circular dichroism (CD) spectral signals, due to their molecular packing modes and supramolecular chirality. Through molecular surface n-doping using hydrazine, chiral single crystals exhibit electron mobility surpassing 1.0 cm(2) V-1 s(-1), which is one of the highest among chiral organic semiconductors, and excellent optoelectronic functions. Theoretical calculations reveal that the radical anions formed by n-doping increase the electron affinity and/or reduce the energy gap, thus facilitating electron transport. More importantly, the doped organic chiral crystals selectively discriminate CPL handedness with a high anisotropy factor of photoresponsivity (similar to 0.12). These results demonstrate that surface-doped quasi-2D chiral organic single crystals are highly promising for chiral optoelectronics.

Abstract:Four symmetrical diphenylnate liquid crystals were prepared and their structures were confirmed by FT-IR and H-1 NMR spectra. Their liquid crystal properties were tested by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and hot stage polarizing microscop (POM). The crystal structure of Ilia was detemfined by X-ray single crystal diffraction techniques. IIIa is a monoclinic crystal system, space group P2(1)/c with the unit cell parameters: a=18.525(3) angstrom, b=12.196(2) angstrom, c= 12.195(2) angstrom, beta= 97.142(2)degrees, V=2733.7(9) angstrom(3), Z=4, D-c=1.163 Mg/m(3), R=0.0521, R-w=0.1161. The results showed that molecules lead thermotropic liquid crystals properties. The relations among the mesomorphism, oxygen atoms, terminal unsaturated bond, the flexible chain length were investigated.

Abstract:Organic crystals have aroused significant interest in the nonlinear optical field due to the presence of higher order nonlinearity. This article enlightens about the growth, structural, optical, thermal and nonlinear optical (NLO) characteristics of guanidinium benzenesulfonate (GBS) single crystal for NLO applications. Herein, we employed slow evaporation solution technique (SEST) to grow good quality crystals of GBS. The single crystal X-ray diffraction & powder XRD were performed in order to study the crystal structure. The functional groups in the GBS molecule were analysed using the qualitative FT-IR spectra. The transmittance and optical bandgap of titled crystal were assessed by UV–Visible spectroscopy. The sample was excited at a wavelength 260 nm to see its emission spectrum through PL spectroscopy. A decrease in LDT value was observed with increase in the pulse repetition rate using Nd:YAG laser. TG-DTA curve were assessed at different rates of heating to examine the thermal stability of the titled material. The activation energy was calculated by using thermogravimetric data. To investigate third order nonlinearity of grown crystal, the NLO coefficients were estimated by adopting well known Z-scan technique equipped with a Ti:sapphire based laser oscillator.

Abstract:Bisglycine strontium bromide trihydrate (BGSBT) single crystals have been grown by way of slow evaporation. Crystallization of BGSBT in the orthorhombic system has been revealed in XRD analysis, and functional groups established through FT-IR and FT-Raman analyses. Optical transparency of BGSBT in the 300 to 1100 nm range has been manifested through UV–Vis NIR spectral analysis. BGSBT is seen to come under the soft materials category, as understood from Vickers microhardness study. Change in dielectric constant and dielectric loss as frequency varies is monitored at different temperatures. Thermal stability of BGSBT until 104 °C is verified from TG-DTA analysis. The presence of Sr and Br has been established from Energy Dispersive X-ray analysis. The nonlinear optical properties have been determined with Z-scan method. The emission of violet light is a property revealed by the photoluminescence spectrum of BGSBT. Structural perfection and growth character of BGSBT crystal is implicit from etching studies.

Abstract:Single crystals of the nonlinear material γ-glycine have been grown in the presence of lithium nitrate by slow-evaporation method. Structural characterization of the grown crystals was carried out by powder and single crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD) methods and it is observed that the samples crystallize in hexagonal system with non-centrosymmetric space groups. The modes of vibrations of different molecular groups present in glycine have been identified by spectral analyses. UV–visible transmittance study was performed to analyze optical transparency of γ-glycine crystals and found that the crystal was transparent in the entire visible-NIR region. Second harmonic generation (SHG) conversion efficiency has been estimated as 62mV and the output power by the crystal was 1.72 times that of potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP) crystal. The thermal stability and decomposition of the sample have been studied by thermal analysis and it is observed that the γ-glycine crystal have good thermal stability.

Abstract:Slow evaporation method was employed to grow an organic crystal: guanidinium hydrogen succinate (GHS). Monoclinic structure of GHS was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction study and its space group was determined to be ({P2}_{1}/{c}). Different functional groups present in GHS were estimated qualitatively by Fourier transform infrared analysis. The crystalline quality of the grown GHS was ascertained by high-resolution X-ray diffraction study. The UV–Vis absorption spectrum reveals a lower cut-off wavelength of 235 nm. The minimum absorption shows the wide optical transparency in the entire visible region. Work hardening co-efficient value ((n = 1.7)) shows that the GHS crystal belongs to soft material category. Behaviour of dipoles in the crystal was examined through dielectric study. The third-order nonlinear optical analysis was carried out on GHS crystal through Z-scan technique. The nonlinear refractive index ((n_2)), nonlinear absorption coefficient ((eta )) and third-order nonlinear optical susceptibility ((chi ^{(3)})) were estimated to be ( - 5.78 imes 10^{-8}hbox { cm}^{2}hbox { W}^{-1}), (0.72 imes 10^{-4}hbox { cm W}^{-1}) and (8.09 imes 10^{-6}hbox { esu}), respectively.Graphical

Solution growth and studies of undoped and lithium nitrate added glycine sodium nitrate single crystals

Abstract:Solution growth by slow evaporation method has been employed to grow semi-organic nonlinear optical crystals of pure and lithium nitrate doped glycine sodium nitrate (GSN). The grown crystals were subjected by single crystal and powder Xray diffraction techniques to identify the crystal structure and diffraction planes. Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectra were recorded to identify the functional groups of the samples. Ultra Violet (UV)-visible spectral studies for the grown samples were carried out and analyzed. The investigations indicate the inclusion of the dopant into the lattice of GSN and enhancement of optical properties due to the incorporation of the dopant LiNO3 into the lattice of GSN. Second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency was measured by Kurtz-Perry technique. The obtained results from various studies were discussed.

Abstract:In this article, Glycine Manganese Sulphate (GMS) semi‐organic single crystal is grown by SEST method. Different characterization is analyzed such as Single crystal XRD, Powder XRD, FTIR, FT Raman, UV‐visible analysis, Vickers microhardness, Dielectric, Photoluminescence, Etching analysis and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The grown GMS crystal is suggested for opto‐electronic device applications. Glycine manganese sulphate (GMS) crystals are produced by a slow evaporation technique at room temperature. This is confirmed that triclinic of the crystal lattice system by using single crystal X‐ray diffraction analysis and to determine the lattice parameters of the synthesised crystals. Powder XRD is used to confirm the planar indexing and crystalline structure. The Fourier Transform Infrared (FT‐IR) spectra are examined to verify that functional groups are present in the generated GMS crystals. By establishing a cut‐off wavelength of 253 nm, spectra of visible, near‐infrared, and Ultra Violet (UV) light from 200 to 1100 nm are analyzed. At frequencies ranging from 100 Hz to 8 MHz, the grown crystal's dielectric response is studied. Vickers microhardness tester is utilized to find out how strong the grown crystal is mechanically. Photoluminescence (PL) investigations often aim to detect crystal formation faults and contaminants. Etching analysis is used to find surface flaws and dislocations on the formed crystal's surface. The internal surface property of the produced crystal is investigated with scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The findings contradicted each other, suggesting that the created GMS crystal be used in opto‐electronic device applications.

Abstract:Glycine and its related compounds play a prominent role in the field of nonlinear optical studies and of fibre optical communication. In the present work, glycine sodium nitrate (GSN) crystal was grown using the method of slow evaporation method. The GSN crystal belongs to space group Cc in the monoclinic system. Using the FTIR spectrophotometer, the different functional groups have been qualitatively identified. A UV–Vis–NIR spectroscopy was used to record the optical absorption spectra, and the optical energy bandgap of GSN crystal is reported. The SHG conversion efficiency of GSN is determined by Kurtz and Perry technique. The Z-scan experiment was conducted to analyze GSN crystal for third-order NLO behavior and it is used to calculate the values of the nonlinear absorption coefficient, nonlinear refractive index, and third-order nonlinear susceptibility. Third-generation harmonic studies reveal that GSN is an excellent material useful in the fabrication of NLO devices due to its nonlinear response characteristics. The thermal stability of the grown crystal was determined through TG/DTA examination. Also photoconductivity studies confirm the negative photoconductive behavior of GSN and I–V characteristics measurement that have been carried out. The dielectric loss is significantly low and this supports defect-free growth of the crystal. These properties of GSN make it a good candidate in the fabrication of NLO devices.

Abstract:BGLP single crystal with dimensions 14× 3 × 2 mm3 is synthesized and its structure and lattice parameters are identified with the aid of X‐ray diffraction. The vibrational spectrum of BGLP is investigated making use of FT‐IR and FT‐Raman spectra. The synthesis as well as the results of the investigations on the structure as well as properties ‐ thermal, mechanical, surface and nonlinear optical of semiorganic bisglycine lithium perchlorate (BGLP) single crystals are herein recorded. BGLP single crystal with dimensions 14× 3 × 2 mm3 has been synthesized and its structure and lattice parameters have been identified with the aid of X‐ray diffraction. The vibrational spectrum of BGLP has been investigated making use of FT‐IR and FT‐Raman spectra. Optical transmittance and absorption is examined by UV–vis spectroscopy with thickness 2 mm and it is shown that the crystal is highly transparent with a lower cut‐off of 287 nm. The optical bandgap is evaluated as 5.7 eV. The dielectric constant is found to show variations with frequency as well as temperature, which remains constant at high frequencies. Dielectric loss is found to decrease with the applied electric field. BGLP is manifested to be thermally stable up to 256 °C as revealed from thermogravimetric analyses. The 2D nucleation mechanism in the growth of BGLP crystals is understood from etching studies. By implementing Z‐scan studies with a He─Ne laser as a source, the nonlinear absorption coefficient, susceptibility, and third order nonlinear refractive index are all computed.

Abstract:Semiorganic single crystal of bisglycine cobalt chloride dihydrate (BGCCD) is a superior material for non-linear optics (NLO) applications such as photonic, electronic and opto-electronic devices. This article presents high-quality BGCCD single crystals prepared using the slow evaporation solution technique (SEST), which are a famous NLO material. A transparent BGCCD crystal with a maximum size of 9 × 9 × 8 mm 3 was collected over the period of 80 days. Various analyses were conducted on the grown crystals, including single crystal x-ray diffraction, which was utilized to find out the unit cell parameters. Analyses of functional groups using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Finding the band gap and absorbance of the grown crystal is done using UV-Visible spectroscopy. Mechanical stability is determined by micro-hardness. The dielectric loss and dielectric constant of the grown crystal is found by utilizing dielectric measurements. The stability is found through thermo-gravimetric and differential thermal analyses. To detect surface flaws in the grown crystals, etching analysis was employed. Structure morphology was identified using a scanning electron microscope. The elements were identified using energy dispersive x-ray analysis. The excitation and emission spectra can be determined using photoluminescence, and in order to determine the crystal's thermal diffusivity, photoacoustic spectroscopy was employed. The findings regarding thermal diffusivity indicate that it is well-suited for uses related to opto-electronic devices.

Abstract:The slow evaporation technique was used to produce nonlinear optical ammonium pentaborate dihydrate (APBDH) single crystals. The crystal lattice parameters and structure of APBDH crystal was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction (S-XRD) technique with the triclinic space group. The optical band gap of the grown crystal was determined using UV–Vis spectrophotometer. There is no absorption peak was observed in the entire visible region of the spectrum. The functional groups of the APBDH crystal were identified through Fourier transforms infrared (FTIR) and Fourier transform Raman (FR-Raman) analyses. The thermal decomposition and thermal stability of the grown crystal was measured using TG-DTA analyses. The laser damage threshold (LDT) analysis was used to know the ability to withstand the influence of laser on the grown crystal. Photoconductivity of the grown crystal was studied and its photocurrent and dark current behavior was examined. The surface morphology of the APBDH crystal was evaluated using HR-SEM analysis. The APBDH crystal was exhibited second harmonic generation behavior and its efficiency was calculated with different particle sizes.

Abstract:Glycine ethyl ester hydrochloride (GE) single crystals were produced employing a slow solvent evaporation process with methanol as the solvent. The single crystal XRD technique is used to identify the unit cell parameter values and the crystal system. UV–Vis spectral analysis, which measures the visible region between 400 and 800 nm and the ultraviolet range between 200 and 400 nm, is used to observe the optical assessment of GE crystals. The grown GE crystal exhibits nearly 85% optical transmittance. Also the lower cut-off frequency is observed at 240nm. Using DFT, the quantum chemical computations have been performed. It indicates a variety of intermolecular interactions, including hydrogen bonding, and acknowledges the geometrical and electronic structural characteristics of the crystal, such as FMO, MEP, and hyperpolarizability. A variety of functional groups were examined using Raman and FTIR spectra, and vibrational frequencies from theoretical and experimental values were reviewed.

Abstract:An organic single crystal of a charge transfer complex called ethylenediammonium bis-(p-methyl-benzenesulfonate) monohydrate (EDMBS) was created at room temperature using the slow solvent evaporation method with methanol as a solvent. The resulting EDMBS crystal was analyzed using single crystal X-ray diffraction, which confirmed that it has a monoclinic crystal system with a non-centrosymmetric space group P2 1 . In EDMBS, hydrogen–hydrogen interaction (36.1%) stabilizes the packing of the crystal structure. FTIR analysis was used to determine the functional groups within the compound. UV–Vis spectroscopy revealed that the crystal has a lower cut-off wavelength of 263 nm, and fluorescence analysis confirmed that EDMBS is suitable for various optical and NLO applications. Thermal analysis showed that the EDMBS is thermally stable up to 310 °C. The Z-scan technique validated the third-order nonlinear characteristic of the EDMBS single crystal.

Abstract:A transparent organic crystalline material guanidinium nitrate (GuN) was fruitfully harvested. Structure of GuN was verified by SXRD and its monoclinic system with Cm space group. Optical nature of GuN was confirmed by T%, <i>n</i>, ∆<i>n</i> and optical limiting. Strength nature of the GuN was tested by optical and mechanical hardness. The energy gap, global reactivity descriptors, linear and non-linear optical parameters were calculated at B3LYP/6-31G (d,p) level. Single crystals of pure and potassium diahydrogen phosphate (KDP)-doped 2-Benzamidoacetic acid are grown by the slow evaporation method at room temperature. These crystals are confined in size, have a limpid appearance, and are non-hygroscopic. A UV–visible study shows the transparent nature of grown crystals in the visible region (400–800 nm). The transparent nature of crystal shows less absorption of light in the visible region. Absorption coefficient (α), refractive index (n), optical conductivity (op), polarisability (P), and susceptibility (op)—all these optical data support the experimental data. The lower cut-off wavelengths are 305 and 350 nm for grown crystals of pure and KDP-doped 2-Benzamidoacetic acid. The optical band gap indicates that doping of KDP in 2-Benzamidoacetic acid crystals turns them into organic or semiorganic crystals. The range of the optical band gap shows that crystal is useful in optoelectronic devices. For the NLO property, a second harmonic generation test was performed. This study shows that grown crystals are recommended for the fabrication of green light emission devices. The various functional groups of the grown crystal were designated using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR). The crystal dimensions of the grown crystal of pure and doped 2-Benzamidoacetic acid were confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction (SXRD), and the crystalline nature of the crystal was confirmed and hkl planes were indexed by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) analysis. A scanning electron microscope (SEM) shows good surface morphology in grown crystals. The Vickers hardness test shows good mechanical strength for the manufacturing of devices.

Abstract:A type of organic nonlinear optical material EBQ‐T is synthesized, and the EBQ‐T crystal with a size of 11 × 5 × 2 mm3 is grown by the evaporation method. The SHG efficiency of EBQ‐T is about three times that of the KDP crystal. Moreover, optical and electrical properties, and thermal stability of EBQ‐T are systematically studied. A type of organic nonlinear optical (NLO) material EBQ‐T (2‐(4‐ethoxystyryl)‐1‐methyl‐quinolinium 4‐methylbenzenesulfonate) is synthesized, and the EBQ‐T crystal with a size of 11 × 5 × 2 mm3 is grown by the evaporation method in methanol. Single crystal X‐ray diffraction (XRD) analysis confirms that the EBQ‐T crystal belongs to the non‐centrosymmetric Cc space group, and the edge molecular orbital energy gap (HOMO‐LUMO) is calculated. Proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) and fourier transform infra‐red (FT‐IR) tests further verify the crystal functional group. The crystal has a high second‐order nonlinear effect, and the second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency is about 3 times that of the KDP crystal. The ultraviolet‐visible‐near infrared (UV–vis–NIR) absorption spectrum shows that the EBQ‐T crystal has good transmission performance, which can be up to 76%. Additionally, thermal stability and electrical properties of the EBQ‐T crystal are characterized.

Abstract:A novel semi-organic crystal has been grown using slow evaporation technique by doping organic compound L-asparagine monohydrate (C4H8N2O3·H2O) with inorganic material Magnesium sulphate heptahydrate (MgSO4·7H2O). The crystallographic parameters like strain, dislocation density and crystallite size were calculated by powder X-ray diffraction method. Functional groups were identified and bond length, force constants were calculated from FT-IR spectroscopy. Energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis was used to identify the constituent elements of the crystal. Kinetic and thermodynamic parameters, such as, activation energy Ea, change in Gibb's free energy (ΔG) and change in enthalpy (ΔH) have been determined by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) analysis. Ea, ΔH and ΔG show positive values and change in entropy (ΔS) shows negative ones. The thermal degradation behavior of the crystals has been analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis. Various optical constants such as optical band gap, lattice dielectric constant, absorbance, extinction coefficient, the ratio of free charge carrier concentration to the effective mass, Urbach energy, optical and electrical conductivities were estimated from UV-vis transmittance data. High optical conductivity (1010 s-1) justifies the good photo response nature of the semi-organic crystal.
