Abstract:This research aimed to determine the opinions of teachers who participated in the “I Live My Values with Traditional Games Project (ILMVTGP)” in the 2nd semester of the 2022-2023 academic year regarding the role of traditional children's games (TCG) in education. In the study, phenomenological research design, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. The study group consisted of 17 teachers in total, including 12 primary school teachers and 5 physical education teachers who participated in ILMVTGP in Aksaray/Eskil. Criterion sampling method was used to determine the participants and focus group interviews were held with the participants. Content analysis was performed to evaluate the data collected with the semi-structured interview form. According to the research findings, four themes were determined: “development”, “cultural bridge”, “value transfer” and “educational tool”. Teachers participating in ILMVTGP stated that TCG supports the holistic development of students and that physical development is especially at the forefront. Traditional games serve as an important cultural bridge in transferring our culture to future generations. The role of traditional games in transferring the values of respect, love, helpfulness, honesty, friendship, and tolerance inherent in our culture was emphasized by teachers. Attention has been drawn to the role of traditional games in transferring physical education lesson achievements, and especially psychomotor achievements, to students. It was stated that students' love for school and motivation to learn increased, their negative behaviors decreased and their academic success increased. As a result of the research; It has been determined that the use of TCG in education serves the purposes of the physical education course curriculum and has a positive impact on children in terms of holistic development, culture, and value transfer. Based on these results, it is recommended that traditional games be used effectively at the basic education level and supported by the authorities.Keywords: Basic Education, Culture, Development, Traditional Children's Games, Values

Abstract:One of the greatest goals of the 21st century is the acquisition of high-level skills through the STEM course designs to provide skill-assisted transformation in learning processes. The purpose of this research; The aim of this course is to examine the views of teachers about STEM course designs supported by traditional Turkish games adapted to primary school social studies course. Each teacher who participated in the research was able to videotape all his practices and fill out the observation forms. Through the obtained data, it was shared with the teachers whether the achievements of the course were realized or not. After these practices, the opinions of the teachers towards the research were obtained through a semi-structured interview form. Descriptive analysis technique was applied on the collected data. According to the findings obtained at the end of the study, it was stated by the participants that their students developed a significant sense in cognitive, affective and psychomotor aspects. Abstract:The purpose of the study was to explore Turkish preschool teachers’ views and implementation of play and playful learning in their own classrooms. Through semi-structured interview questions, the participating teachers’ perspectives were investigated using a phenomenological research approach. A thematic data analysis approach was used to examine the gathered information. The current study’s findings revealed that participating teachers have diverse perspectives on the relationship between play and learning. While many of them highlighted the significance of play for children’s learning and development, only a few of them suggested how they can give a learning opportunity through play. They also noted that arranging the environment to learn through play was challenging for them. The findings emphasized the importance of changing teachers’ stereotypical views of learning and realizing the benefits of playful learning for all children. As a result, the study’s findings indicated the need for new government regulations and teacher training programs to assist teachers’ knowledge and practice in offering playful learning.

Abstract:This research focuses on the contextualization and preservation of the diminishing local values which are slowly abandoned by the young generation. The data consists of texts containing local values or presumed to contain values collected by the researchers. The data was gathered by observing the texts describing traditional children’s games during the timeline of research. The technique to implement the observation method was recording and note-taking. Besides, interview or speaking method was employed to gather the data. Interview was conducted to experts who understood the values of local wisdom contained in the traditional children’s games. The data analysis was done using the distributional and content analysis methods. The result of the analysis shows that the values of local wisdom contained in the traditional children’s games are values of: (1) Affection; (2) Agility and Fighting Spirit; (3) Creativity and Adaptability; (4) Creative Imagination; (5) Acceptance of the Facts of Life; (6) Fulfilling the Destiny; (7) Obedience and Discipline; (8) Intelligence Test; (9) Synergy and Collaboration. These values and wisdoms were found in the following games: (a) Dedek-Dedekan, (b) Rerodaan, (c) Bentik, (d) Topeng-Topengan, (e) Boneka Kodokan, (f) Kitiran Umbul, (g) Masak-Masakan, (h) Polisi-Polisian, (i) Mekrok, (j) Dingklik Oglak-Aglik.
Traditional games in elementary school: Relationships of student's personality traits, motivation and experience with learning outcomes

Abstract:This study promotes a novel teaching approach for integration of children's traditional games in elementary school program. It gives description of six traditional games and their educational prospects, implemented in six learning sessions in five elementary schools in Macedonia, involving 102 students. The comparison of learning achievements between these learning sessions and standard classes revealed increased students' learning performance on comparable topics. To understand the reason for improvement, we have surveyed students after each session and tested the gathered data set via the development of a structural equation model that examines the relationships between student's personality traits, motivation and experience with learning outcomes. The findings show that students' achievements were directly influenced by students' intrinsic and extrinsic motivational factors, as well as perceived experience. Additionally, the integration of traditional games in the elementary school classroom was equally accepted among all students, since their personality traits did not directly influence their experience or learning outcomes. Still, the link between the students' personality dimensions and motivation revealed that introvert children might have slightly increased motivation and possibility to open up during game-play in such collaborative environments.

Abstract:This study entitled “The Role of Games in Developing the Value of Love among Kindergarten’s Children from Teachers’ Perspective” is composed of four sections. The first displays the problem of the study, its significance as well as the definitions of the key terms: game, value, and love. Regarding the aims of the study, they are confined to the points below: Identifying the role of games in developing the value of love among the kindergarten’s children from the teachers’ perspective. Identifying the role of games in developing the value of love among the kindergarten’s children from teachers’ perspective taking into consideration the individual differences between governmental and non-governmental kindergartens. Section Two presents a theoretical background in which the researcher investigates a number of topics related to the role of games and the value of love as well as the types of games and so forth. This section reviews Section Three touches upon the methodology followed to conduct this study which specifically adopts descriptive analysis. Additionally, the population and the sample of the study besides the statistic issues are accounted for. Finally, in the fourth section, in the light of the aims, a bunch of results has been highlighted; then, analyzed and discussed. It has been concluded that playing games have a prominent role in developing the value of love among kindergartens’ children. It is worthy to point out that the governmental and the non-governmental kindergartens have been found to share the very same outcomes. The study concludes with some suggestions and recommendations besides the references cited in this study and the appendixes.

Values Education and Evaluation of Activities in Preschool Education Program in Turkey

Abstract:This study aims to evaluate the views of preschool teachers about values education and activities in the preschool education program. Phenomenology design, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the research. The study group of our research consists of 15 pre-school teachers working in Nevşehir, Turkey. The data of the study were collected with semi-structured interview and analyzed by content analysis. The result of the research demonstrates that the teachers evaluated the values education in five main categories as “creating the foundation”, “educational process”, “behavior”, “responsibility” and “rules”. Some participants found the values education in the pre-school curriculum sufficient. The values that children learn most easily are love, respect, responsibility, tolerance, sharing, honesty and cooperation. In classroom practices, it was concluded that they generally teach the concepts of values education by using visual materials. The majority of the teachers participating in the research suggested that there should be cooperation with the family, teacher, school and environment regarding the values education in the pre-school education program. They also suggested that extra-class activities should be included in the program, in-service training, material support and practical activities should be given more time.

Abstract:In the introduction pages to popular children games, Pitrè describes play activities as a form of "creative pastimes" which serve to sharpen the mind and develop physical forces, anticipating, by over a century or so, the subsequent reflections on motor praxeology (Parlebas, 2010, pp. 131-148). Traditional games, expression of innocent amusements (Pitrè, 1888) help children to take part in the construction of their own story, highlighting the strong relationship between games and childhood developmental development, on which that of the communities from which it originates depends. In the course of the historical evolution of the school, the need to include both games from the past and the most current teaching methodologies in school curricula has been gradually formalized, recreating interactive and dynamic environments and game situations, not simply reproductive and executive, but propositive and creative (Almond, L. 1986). Traditional games offer an original interpretation of social human phenomena, confirming that "culture is first played" (Huizinga, 2002). This emphasis on playful memories of the past calls for an interesting reflection on popular heritage, starting with traditional games to be presented to children, right from the first schooling.

Abstract:This study was conducted to evaluate the physical activity levels and game performances of primary school students participating in traditional children's games. A survey model, one of the quantitative research methods, was used in the research. The sample of the research consisted of 16 students who participated in the final matches of traditional children's games in the 2021-2022 academic year and were determined according to the game region. In the research, data were collected by using the "System for Observing Fitness Instruction Time (SOFIT)" and "Game Performance Assessment Instrument (GPAI)" through the behavioral observation method. Descriptive statistics, Mann Whitney U test, and correlation analysis were used in the analysis of the data. According to the research findings, while the students showed the most standing behavior, the level of moderate-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) was at the desired level. It has been determined that the GPAI components are at a medium level in the case of skill application, while the other components are at a good level in decision-making, support, game participation, and performance. No significant difference was found in MVPA and game performance by gender. While a positive significant relationship was found between MVPA and the GPAI component of game performance, no significant relationship was found between MVPA and other GPAI components. As a result of the research; it was concluded that primary school students playing traditional games had good MVPA levels and sufficient game skills. Based on the results of the research, it can be suggested to use traditional games in physical education lessons and to create lesson content for the development of tactical awareness of students.
Perceptions of Play Among Mothers and Fathers from Low-Income Households in Türkiye

Abstract:In this phenomenological study, we explored the play perceptions of parents with young children from low-income households in Türkiye. Data were collected through individual semi-structured interviews with 36 parents (18 mothers and 18 fathers), all of whom have children in their early childhood years. We transcribed the interviews and conducted a thematic analysis. The findings illuminate the diverse perceptions of children's play among parents in low-income households, highlighting a shared recognition of play as a social activity and a source of joy, while also revealing differing views. Parents in the study generally value studying, health, and familial love and respect above play. Their control over children's playtime is significantly influenced by concerns over academic performance and safety. Mothers are typically the primary participants in children's play due to their increased presence at home, while fathers' participation is significantly limited by work obligations and exhaustion.

Abstract:The aims of this study were to examine the relationship between traditional games and children's social development. The study utilized a pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design with a control group. The participants were 6-year-old children, who were randomly assigned into two groups of 20 each (experimental group and control group). After selecting the participants (6-year-old children) and dividing them into two groups, both groups were simultaneously engaged in traditional games and common preschool activities. Before the intervention of the independent variable, their social development was assessed using the Vineland Social Maturity Scale. The data collected from the pretest and posttest were compared. Data analysis was conducted by using covariance analysis by SPSS-22. The results indicate that the observed F is statistically significant at the level of p < 0.05. Based on the findings, traditional games can result in a positive effect on various aspects of children's social development, including self-help general, self-help in dressing, self-help in eating, interaction with others, self-regulation of behaviors, socialization, physical activity, profession, and occupation.

Abstract:This study demonstrates the richness of traditional children's games as an instructional tool for promoting holistic child development at the early childhood development (ECD) level. The study examines traditional children's games from rural Zimbabwe. Valuable insights were drawn from different dimensions of indigenous knowledge systems, ranging from linguistics, crafts, cognitive skills, and clinical psychology. In this grounded theory study, participants included 10 ECD educators from rural schools in five selected Zimbabwean provinces. The researchers employed systematic random sampling technique. Data were generated using questionnaires, face-to-face interviews, and observations conducted in the five participating schools. The multiplicity of data generation methods enhanced validity of the data through triangulation. Findings suggested that traditional children's games take cognizance of children's socio-cultural context and are thus culturally relevant. The researchers recommend that ECD educators should maximize use of traditional children's games in teaching. The skills that children develop in the classroom through cultural heritage resources like games are useful and sustainable in everyday life and the future.

Abstract:A child's play is the meaning of its life in preschool age. It was his refuge from fears, field of battles, the polygon of game, achievements and successes, soothing and dreams. There come to the fore desires, aspirations, feelings, thoughts and needs of the child for active action in the environment in which it lives. The game satisfies the biological and psychological needs of children and contributes to their mental, emotional, social and moral development. Different roles in the games, although the product of a child's fantasy, allow the child to gain personal experience of good and bad, about what is positive and what is not in behavior. Games are an important form of entertainment for children and adults, through which children organize independently and they have special educational significance. They are a powerful tool for education because through games children acquire knowledge, enrich their experience, and develop skills and habits.The goal of our research is to investigate how the game is implemented in the educational work of preschool institutions, and at the same time to determine which of the traditional games are used in kindergartens, and how modern games enable and assist the process of coming to self-knowledge.

Abstract:This phenomenological study examined the play experiences and perceptions of eighteen 5- to 6-year-old children from three disadvantaged socioeconomic and cultural contexts in Turkey. Data were generated through semi-structured individual interviews with children. Results indicated that children's play experiences and perceptions were influenced by the context and cultural characteristics in which they lived. Children defined play as the various activities they choose to do primarily outdoors, and their play experiences varied in relation to their parents' attitudes, socioeconomic opportunities, culture-specific judgments, and affordances of their physical environment. Parents set limits on their children's play and play spaces due to safety concerns, possibility of damaging property, and responsibilities which the children were expected to fulfill. However, children were usually allowed to play outside within hearing distance of their parents, provided that they completed their homework and avoided risks and danger. Although the children had limited play materials, gender stereotypes were quite evident in their play materials and playmate preferences. Participant children reported that their parents usually did not play with them as well as did not prefer them to become playmates with children of the opposite gender.

Abstract:In this study, games were prepared that will contribute to improving the vocabulary of children learning Arabic. Considering the target audience, it is known that game techniques and word teaching offer a fun and lively course environment and increase the motivation of the student. In this study, qualitative research methods were used. Document analysis technique was used in the collection of data. The findings were analyzed by the method of exponence analysis and a systematic framework was established for the study. The analysis of the documents according to the gains in the 2-8th grade Arabic curriculum prepared by the Ministry of National Education was carried out by a linguist and it was aimed to increase the reliability of the study. Three language experts were consulted for the scope validity of the games associated with the achievements and the games were rearranged in line with the incoming feedback. A total of 13 games were presented at this stage. Care has been taken to ensure that game designs are available to the entire class. In addition, it is important that the games are able to strengthen both oral and written communication. At the end of the study, it was proposed that games that can be played in open spaces such as outdoors and using technological devices can be designed in the form of dual or group work for children learning Arabic.

Abstract:There is the need for the training of Early Childhood Education Teachers to appreciate and exhibit the integration of indigenous knowledge in the teaching and learning process. This paper aims to create the awareness in policy makers that the time to encourage and support Early Childhood Educators to use indigenous knowledge in facilitating themes and concepts is ripe. This knowledge is common in our Traditional Ewe Play Games hereafter called TEPG. The integration of traditional play games in teaching and learning at the Early Grade Level is one sure means of arousing learning interest in children. Traditional play games, sustain their interest towards learning and opens up multi- sensory learning behavior in them. Educational benefits of traditional play games cannot be overemphasized. Indigenous plays allow a multisensory spectrum of scaffolding, assessment and responsive feedback for coaching. The paper suggests that when Pre-service Teachers are properly trained to acquire the knowledge and skills in the use of indigenous play games at their training levels, they would be well equipped to facilitate the Pre-tertiary Education Curriculum hence producing functional citizens for the nation. This qualitative research adopted exploratory design to collect data through observation, interview and available literary materials. Descriptive approach was used to analyze the data.

Abstract:Education is a lifelong process that puts different learning areas to work. Language learning and teaching, which is one of these learning areas, is an area that has been given great importance in recent years and on which a lot of research has been done. The use of various literary products in this field, where many different methods and techniques are used, new materials are presented to the student, programs are developed considering the needs and student profile, makes it very easy to carry out the teaching. It is a fact that fairy tales, one of these literary genres, attract the attention of students, take them to different imaginary worlds, entertain them, evoke aesthetic feelings and contribute to language development. In addition to fairy tales, educational games also provide permanence in learning by focusing attention on the student. In education with the game, skills such as comparative thinking and decision-making become practical. In short, both physical and mental abilities develop in training with play. The aim of this study is to examine the contribution of fairy tales and educational games to the teaching of Turkish as a foreign language, the contribution of the fairy tale "The Land of the Pronouns" and the educational game called "The Pronoun Class" to be played later on the grammar learning of foreign students learning Turkish in Turkey. For this study, a total of 30 foreign national 6th grade students, 15 of whom were experimental and 15 of whom were control groups, studying at Ankara Sincan Ressam İbrahim Çallı Secondary School were selected by paying attention to the fact that their level of Turkish knowledge was equal. These students were first applied the pronouns prepared by the researchers as a pre-test of the achievement test, then the experimental group was told the tale written by the researchers and supported by an educational game. In the control group, the subject of pronouns was explained through plain expression and the pronouns achievement test was applied as a post-test in both groups. As a result of these applications, the permanence and success status of the subject of pronouns taught by fairy tales from literary text types were examined. In this study, semi-experimental design was used. The pre- and post-test results were analyzed by Mann Whitney U test in SPSS 2 6.0 program. According to the results obtained, the success average of the experimental group taught with fairy tales and educational games; The course was higher than the control group with straight a.It is thought that this study, which aims to include students in the learning process and to intuit their functions instead of memorizing the rules, will contribute to the development of students' language skills and increase the use ofeducational games with different types of literature.

Abstract:Traditional Filipino games are activities played across generations, making use of local resources. This study aimed to gain a better understanding of teachers' experiences with integrating traditional Filipino games into the Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health (MAPEH) instruction of local public schools. Utilizing a basic qualitative research design, this study sought to grasp the present scenario in elementary schools through in-depth interviews and prolonged engagement with the six teachers chosen using inclusion criteria. Abstract:This comprehensive review examines how conventional games affect children's social-emotional development.
