Abstract:Objective To study the chemical constituents from leaves of Phyllostachys pubescens. Method Column chromatography on sephadex LH-20 as well as preparative HPLC and spectral analysis were used to isolate and elucidate the constituents. Result Six compounds were isolated from leaves of Phyllostachys pubescens, and identified as vanillin (I), syringic aldehyde (II), p-hydroxybenzaldehyde (III), vanillic acid (IV), syringic acid (V), 4-hydroxy-3-methoxy cinnamic acid, ethyl ester (VI). Conclusion All above the compounds were isolated from the plant for the first time.

Abstract:Objective To study the chemical constituents of Acanthopanax senticosus.Methods A.senticosus was extracted with 75% EtOH and separated with petroleum ether and EtOAc,successively.The EtOAc-soluble fraction was isolated by column chromatography and RP-preparative HPLC.Their structures were identified by spectroscopic method(MS,1H-NMR,and 13C-NMR).Results Nineteen compounds were isolated from the EtOAc fraction of A.senticosus and identified as quercetin(1),quercitrin(2),kaempferol(3),hyperoside(4),rutin(5),acacetin(6),daidzin(7),3′-methoxydaidzin(8),puerarin(9),3′-methoxypuerarin(10),4′-methoxypuerarin(11),syringaldehyde(12),syringic acid(13),glucosyringic acid(14),isofraxidin(15),2,3-di(3′,4′-methyl-endioxy-benzyl)-2-buten-4-olide(16),l-sesamin(17),methylpluviatolide(18),and 4′-hydroxy-2′-methoxycinnamaldehyde(19).Conclusion Compounds 6—11,14,16,18,and 19 are isolated from the plants in Acanthopanax(Deche et Planch.) Miq.for the first time.

Abstract:Phytochemical investigation on the stems of Alstonia scholaris (L.) R. Br. led to the isolation and identification of 30 natural products, including sixteen alkaloids (1–16), nine triterpenoids (17–25), two phenols (26–27), and three lignans (28–30). Their structures were established by comprehensive spectroscopic analyses together with the comparison with reported data. Compound 1 was a new indole alkaloid. Compound 24 was firstly isolated from Apocynaceae family, compounds 22–23 and 26–30 were obtained from the genus Alstonia for the first time, and this is the first report of the presence of 11 and 16 in A. scholaris. The chemotaxonomic significance of these isolated compounds was also discussed.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To isolate and determine the chemical constituents from Astilbe chinensis. METHOD:Four compounds were isolated and purified by extraction and column chromatography on silica gel. The chemical structures were determined on the basis of physical-chemical evidence and extensive spectral analysis(HR-EIMS, EIMS, 13C-NMR, 1H-NMR, DEPT, 1H-1H-COSY, HMQC and HMBC). RESULT:Their structures were elucidated as beta-sitosterol palmitate I, daucosterol II beta-sitosterol III and Bergenin IV, respectively. CONCLUSION:Compound I and II were isolated from A. chinensis for the first time.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To study the chemical constituents in the dried roots of Saposhnikovia divaricata.METHOD:The chemical constituents were isolated by various column chromatographic methods and structurally elucidated by IR, UV, MS and NMR evidences.RESULT:Eighteen compounds were obtained and identified as 3'-O-angeloylhamaudol (1), isobergapten (2), imperatorin (3), pentacosane acid (4), anomalin (5), decursin (6), 5-methoxy-7-(3,3-dimethylallyl- oxy)coumarin (7), decursinol angelate (8), xanthotoxin (9), bergapten (10), tectochrysin (11), scopoletin (12), hamaudol (13), ledebouriellol (14), cimifugin (15), sec-O-glucosylhamaudol (16), 4'-O-beta-D-glucosyl-5-O-methylvisamminol (17), and prim-O-glucosylcimifugin (18).CONCLUSION:Compounds 2, 6-8, and 11 were isolated from the roots of S. divaricata for the first time. Compounds 1 and 13-18 were chromones, 2, 3, 5-10 and 12 were coumarins, 4 was fatty acid, and 11 was flavonoid.

Abstract:Phytochemical characterization of the stem and root bark of Daphne giraldii Nitsche. led to the isolation of eight flavones (1–8), six flavans (9–14) and six coumarins (15–20). The structures of these compounds were examined with spectroscopic methods, and also by comparing to previously reported spectroscopic data. Among them, ten compounds (1–3, 9 and 15–20) are reported for the first time for this species, and all compounds with prenyl substitutions have not been identified in other species of genus Daphne, or even in the family Thymelaeaceae. We also describe the chemotaxonomic significance of these compounds.

Abstract:The chemical constituents from the stems and leaves of Clausena emarginata were separated and purified by column chromatographies on silica gel,ODS,Sephadex LH-20,and PR-HPLC. The structures of the isolated compounds were identified on the basis of physicochemical properties and spectroscopic analysis,as well as comparisons with the data reported in the literature. Sixteen compounds were isolated from the 90% ethanol extract of the stems and leaves of C. emarginata,which were identified as siamenol( 1),murrastanine A( 2),3-formyl-1,6-dimethoxycarbazole( 3),3-methoxymethylcarbazole( 4),3-methylcarbazole( 5),murrayafoline A( 6),3-formylcarbazole( 7),3-formyl-1-hydroxycarbazole( 8),3-formyl-6-methoxycarbazole( 9),murrayanine( 10),murrayacine( 11),girinimbine( 12),nordentatin( 13),chalepin( 14),8-hydroxy-6-methoxy-3-pentylisocoumarin( 15) and ethyl orsellinate( 16). Compounds 1-4,14-16 were isolated from C. emarginata for the first time. Among them,compounds 1,2,15 and 16 were isolated from the genus Clausena for the first time. All isolated compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxic activities against five human cancer cell lines: HL-60,SMMC-7721,A-549,MCF-7 and SW480 in vitro. Compounds 12 and 14 showed significant inhibitory effects against various human cancer cell lines with IC_(50) values comparable to those of doxorubicin.

Abstract:Objective: To study the chemical constituents from the roots of Stephania tetrandra.Methods: The 70% ethanol extract from the roots of Stephania tetrandra was isolated and purified by column chromatography over macroporous resin, silica gel, Sephadex LH-20,ODS.The structures of the compounds were identified by physicochemical properties and spectral data.Results: Eleven compounds were isolated from the roots of Stephania tetrandra and identified as（-）-oblongine（1）,fordianoside（2）,coclaurine（3）,dicentrine（4）,magnoflorine（5）,N,N-dimethyllindcarpine（6）,stephenanthrine（7）,N-trans-feruloyl tyramine（8）,4-hydroxyphenethylol-4-O-β-D-glucopyranoside（9）,tetrandrine（10）,fangchinoline（11）,respectively.Conclusion: Among them, compounds 2,3,6,8,9 are isolated from Stephania tetrandra for the first time.

Abstract:Objective: To study the chemical constituents from the stems of Cudrania tricuspidata. Method: The chemical constituents from the ethanol extract of C. tricuspidata were isolated and purified by silica gel, Sephadex LH-20 column chromatographic methods. Their structures were identified on the basis of spectroscopic data and physico-chemical properties. Result: Thirteen compounds were isolated and identified as butyrospermyl acetate (1), glutinol (2), taraxerone (3), quercetin (4), kaempferol (5), isorhamnetin (6), orobol (7), 3'-O-methyorobol (8), taxifolin (9), naringenin (10), steppogenin (11), 1,3,6,7-tetrahydroxyx-anthone (12), 5,7-dihydroxy chromone (13). Conclusion: Compounds 1-3, 6, 13 were isolated from this genus for the first time, while compound 12 was isolated from this plant for the first time and we firstly reported the terpenoids from the genus Cudrania.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To study chemical constituents contained in Desmodium caudatum.METHOD:The chemical compounds were separated by using such chromatographic methods as macroporous resin, Sephadex LH-20, ODS and normal phase silicagel column, and their structures were identified by spectroscopic data analysis.RESULT:Fifteen compounds were separated and identified as stigmasterol (1), beta-sitosterol (2), citrusinol (3), hibiscone A (4), yukovanol (5), kenusanone I (6), neophellamuretin (7), desmodol (8), erythrotriol (9), hibiscone D (10), kaempferol (11), 8-prenylquercetin (12), leachianone G (13), 5,7,4'-trihydroxy-dihydroflavonol (14), and 4H-1-benzopyran-4-one, 2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl) -2, 3-dihydro-3,5,7-trihydroxy-8-( 3-methyl-2-butenyl) -, (2R-trans)-(9CI) (15).CONCLUSION:All of the compounds were separated from D. caudatum for the first time except compound 8.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To study the chemical constituents of Hedysarum polybotrys.METHOD:Chromatographic methods were used to isolate compounds from H. polybotrys and chemical and spectral methods were used to elucidate the structures of the isolated compounds.RESULT:Five compounds, N,N,N-trimethyl-tropaphone inner salt (hypaphorine) (1), octadecyl-3-methoxy-4-hydroxy-benzeneacrylate (2), 5,7,4'-trihydroxy-dihydroflavanone 5,7-di-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (3), 3,4,5-trimethoxy cinnamic acid methy ester (4) and vanillic acid (5), were isolated from the roots of H. polybotrys.CONCLUSION:Compounds 1, 2 and 3 were obtained from this plant for the first time, while compounds 1 and 2 were isolated from Hedysarum for the first time.

Abstract:In this study the chemical constituents of the higher polar sustances from Desmodium caudatum were investigated.The compounds were isolated by using column chromatographies over silicagel, polyamide, ODS, Sephadex LH-20, and preparative HPLC. The structures of these compounds were identified on the basis of NMR and MS spectra. Thirteen compounds were obtained and their structures were identified as vanillin(1), loliolide(2), indole-3-carboxaldehyde(3), salicylic acid(4), swertisin(5), saccharumoside C(6), isosinensin (7), kaempferol 3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside-7-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside (8), isovitexin (9), vitexin (10), nothofagin(11), resveratroloside (12), and 2"-α-rhamnopyranosyl-7-O-methylvitexin (13). Except for compound 5, the remaining compounds were isolated from D. caudatum for the first time. Compounds 2, 3, 6-8, 11-13 were separated from the genus Desmodium for the first time.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To investigate chemical constituents of the stems and branches of Adina polycephala and their pharmacological activities.METHOD:The constituents were isolated by a combination of various chromatographic techniques including column chromatography on silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, and C-18, as well as reversed-phase HPLC. Structures of the isolates were identified by spectroscopic data analysis. In vitro cytotoxic, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-HIV, neuroprotective and anti-diabetic activities were screened by using cell-based models.RESULT:Twenty-eight constituents were isolated. Their structures were identified as clemochinenoside B (1), kelampayoside A (2), osmanthuside H (3), 4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenol-beta-D-[6-O-(4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxylbenzoate)]-glucopyranoside (4), and syringic acid beta-D-glucopyranosyl ester (5). Ten iridoidal glycosides: geniposidic acid (6), geniposide (7), 6beta-hydroxygeniposide (8), 6beta-hydroxygeniposide (9), ixoside (10), ixoside 11-methyl ester (11), 11-methyl forsythide (12), 7beta-hydroxysplendoside (13), gardoside (14) and mussaenosidic acid (15), (+) -pinoresinol (16), (+) -medioresinol (17), (+) -syringaresinol (18), (-)-lariciresinol (19), evofolin-B (20), alpha-hydroxyacetovaillone (21), syringic acid (22), vanillin (23), 3, 4, 5-trimethoxyphenol (24), and 2,6-dimethoxy-1, 4-benzoquinone (25), beta-sitosterol (26), mannitol (27), and daucosterol (28). At a concentration of 1.0 x 10(-5) mol x L(-1), these compounds were inactive in the assays, including cytotoxicity against human tumor cell lines (HCT-8, Bel-7402, BGC-823, A549 and A2780), anti-inflammatory activity against the release of beta-glucuronidase in rat polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) induced by platelet-activating factor (PAF), antioxidant activity in Fe(2+)-cystine-induced rat liver microsomal lipid peroxidation, anti-HIV activity against HIV-1 replication, neuroprotective activity against serum deprivation or glutamate induced neurotoxicity in cultures of PC12 cells, and the inhibitory activity against protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B).CONCLUSION:Compounds 1-20 were obtained from the genus Adina for the first time.
