Abstract:A new method for protein determination was recently proposed The measurement is based on the formation of product of the reaction between p-benzoqulnone (PBQ) and protein. To investigate the convenience of a widespread utilization of this method, total protein of hornogenates from several rat tissues was determined. Under similar conditions, the same measurements were performed by using the method of Lowry. A comparison with total fat-free dry weight (FFDW) of the tissues was also made. The results obtained by using PBQ were closer to the real total protein of the tissues (as indicated by FFDW) as compared to the values found by the Lowry's method. Therefore, protein determination by PBQ's method is more precise. In addition, It is less expensive and easier to be used.
