Abstract:This study investigates the feasibility of wind turbine blade fault detection using acoustic signals. Traditionally, many physical-based features were used for blade fault detection. In this study, the potentials of using passive acoustic signals collected by microphone array when blades rotate are explored. By distinguishing the differences of the normal and abnormal sounds, we propose an acoustic signal fault detection method based on convolutional neural network gated recurrent unit (CNN-GRU) neural network. First, the original audio signals are prepossessed to extract its MFCCs features, and then the CNN-GRU neural network is developed for training to detect the fault information. In this study, the acoustic signal dataset of the real operation of the wind turbine are recorded to evaluate the fault detection system. The results show that the proposed system has a high classification accuracy, and also show the feasibility of wind turbine blade fault detection by using passive acoustic signal.
