Abstract:Abstract“It was not until the introduction of Capture TM by Christian Dior in 1987 that the practicality of cosmetics incorporating liposomes was proven in the commercial market” [20]. This quotation from a recent article on liposomal cosmetics needs a slight correction since Capture was launched actually in September 1986 and inspires two comments. First, it refers to what most people call liposomes, that is, vesicles made of polar lipids which are natural, or similar to natural, compounds, and not to Niosomes which are made of synthetic non-ionic amphiphiles [4, 5, 19] and were launched on the cosmetics market a few months earlier in 1986. Second, Capture was the very first liposome commercial product of any kind, and its introduction proved that all the industrial problems of production in large quantities of stable, natural, polar lipids vesicles could be solved, thus paving the way also to liposome dermatics.
