Abstract:Traditional architecture is a representative culture symbol of a region or a nation, which is not only the representative of material culture and the carrier of non-material culture, but also a typical cultural space. Minority nationality characteristic dwelling is a miracle of Chinese traditional folk residences. Under the impact of globalization and modernization, traditional residential architecture has been greatly affected and destroyed. At present, protection and reform on the Minority nationality characteristic dwelling in the southwest of Hubei Province has been paid attention by all the people. In this process, great achievements have been made, while many problems have appeared. This paper analyzes the social value, economic value and ecological value of Minority nationality characteristic dwelling protection, and the current problems of protection. It starts from the realities of minority nationality characteristic dwelling protection and analyzes the different regions, ethnic, social, and economic ecological conditions. It has put forward the protection principles and methods to promote protection and renovation work of dwellings in southwest minority area for further expand and upgrade.
