Application of Learning Management System to Improve Teaching and Learning Activities in Vocational High Schools

Abstract:The COVID-19 virus pandemic which is endemic throughout the world, has forced the teaching and learning process to be done online. Various ways are pursued by the school and teachers so that learning materials can be accepted and understood by students, including the existence of various learning media used for the learning process. However, most schools still use the WhatsApp application as a medium to support this online learning process. All activities such as providing learning material files, collecting assignments, and attending student attendance are carried out through one WhatsApp group. This will certainly make it difficult for students and teachers to track activities in the group. In addition, important information can also be missed due to the unstructured WhatsApp group to be used as a file sharing medium during the learning process. This becomes even more difficult for vocational high schools because the learning process is mostly done in practice. One solution that can be used to overcome these problems is the use of an E-Learning system. In this study, an E-Learning system was developed for vocational high schools with a number of features that can be used to support the learning process. This E-Learning system developed by utilizing the Laravel Framework. Testing of the E-Learning system has been carried out with several users who are teachers and students in Vocational High Schools. The usability test results show that this E-Learning system can be applied to Vocational High Schools with a score of 90.8%, which means the system can be used to support the learning process during the pandemic.
