Abstract:The Guest Editors of this issue of Seminars in Neurology on Neurocritical Care are Drs. Shraddha Mainali and Kevin Sheth. Dr. Mainali is Associate Professor of Neurology at Virginia Commonwealth University, where she is also the Director of Clinical Research for the Division of Stroke and Neurocritical Care. She completed medical school at the Fatima Jinna Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan, followed by Internal Medicine internship and Neurology residency at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. She was a Vascular Neurology fellow at Weill Cornell Medical College, followed by Neurocritical Care fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. She was Assistant Professor at the Ohio State University until 2021, when she migrated to Virginia Commonwealth as Associate Professor. She has received numerous awards from the Neurocritical Care Society, and was elected to Fellow of the Society in 2022. She is an Executive Committee member of the NCS's Curing Coma Campaign, and also serves on the Scientific Advisory Committee and Scientific Steering Committee. She is a highly visible national and international lecturer, and is renowned in the areas of neuroprognostication and coma & disorders of consciousness. She is clearly one of the rising stars in the field of Neurocritical Care! Dr. Kevin Sheth is Professor of Neurology at Yale University School of Medicine. He has been a world leader in Neurocritical Care for many years, leading ground-breaking research, holding many leadership positions, and mentoring uncountable numbers of trainees and junior faculty. He is a Director of the Yale Center for Brain and Mind Health, the Vice Chair for Clinical and Translational Research for the departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery, the Co-Director of the Yale AHA/ASA Bugher Center of Excellence in Hemorrhagic Stroke Research, and the Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded StrokeNet and SIREN Centers at Yale. among many other positions. He previously served on the American Neurological Association and Neurocritical Care Society Board of Directors, and has received numerous national awards for his research in Stroke and Neurocritical Care. His research focuses on neuroimaging, cerebral edema, temperature management, intracerebral hemorrhage, and anticoagulation practices, just to name a few. He is a renowned clinical trialist, with continuous NIH funding for many years. But more than all this, perhaps his greatest impact is in his ability to mentor, educate, and guide the next generation of clinicians to move the field forward. He is simply one of the best in our field. We greatly appreciate the efforts of Drs. Mainali and Sheth, as well as all of the contributing authors, for their wonderful work in this issue of Seminars on Neurocritical Care. This issue is a real tour de force, providing deep insights into the host of topics that are part of a fast-paced and rapidly evolving field. Whether you're a neurointensivist or a practicing neurologist who consults in the intensive care unit, you will no doubt find this issue extremely useful and practical. I am personally grateful for the efforts of Drs. Mainali and Sheth for their great attention to detail, ensuring that the final product was on point and superb.
