Abstract:Abstract Organizational learning is a concept in which an organization continuously develops the ability to learn, adapt, and change. In this context, employee training and development plays an important role to ensure that organizations remain competitive and successful in an ever-changing environment. This article discusses the importance of employee training and development in learning organizations, the challenges faced in their implementation, as well as strategies for implementing them effectively. Among the main interests discussed are increased productivity and work performance, employee retention, increased profitability, adaptation to technological changes, the development of internal talents, as well as the formation of a positive organizational culture. However, there are some challenges that need to be addressed, such as cost and resource allocation, difficulty measuring ROI, employee resistance to change, as well as difficulty identifying the right training needs and ensuring the transfer of learning to the workplace. Effective implementation strategies include careful assessment of training needs, appropriate program design, use of technology in training, as well as continuous evaluation and feedback. Top management support, integration with business strategies, and the creation of a learning culture are also essential for successful implementation. Overall, this article emphasizes the importance of employee training and development in ensuring that organizations continue to learn, innovate, and grow in an ever-changing environment

Abstract:Learning organization has received an increasing attention in the literature of organization and management studies, but only few empirical studies have been conducted to examine its nature, antecedents, and outcomes. Facilitating continuous human resource development throughout all levels of the organization is becoming a primary challenge for many HR professionals. Abstract:The authors review the concept of organizational learning and present a broad conceptual framework for its modeling. Within this framework, one specific process for market-based organizational learning is postulated. An empirical test of this model leads the authors to conclude that a more positive learning orientation (a value-based construct) will directly result in increased market information generation and dissemination (knowledge-based constructs), which, in turn, directly affects the degree to which an organization makes changes in its marketing strategies (a behavioral construct). Managerial implications are discussed.

Abstract:Abstract Any organisation, in order to develop harmoniously and cope with a changing environment, needs to be flexible and adaptable. Such an organisation is one that encourages and supports the creation of a learning culture. By encouraging and supporting employees to learn and develop new skills, organisations can create a culture of continuous learning and growth. Learning culture is more personalised and engaging than traditional culture. Organisations where a learning culture is implemented at all levels become agile, innovative and protected in the face of uncertainty in society. Another benefit of implementing learning culture is attracting the best employees and retaining them in the organisation. A strong learning culture drives motivation, satisfaction and commitment of the organisation’s members.

Abstract:The concept of the learning organization is studied and the basic principles of its construction and operation are highlighted in this paper. The author emphasizes the need for constant updating of knowledge and professional skills in adulthood, in accordance with the concept of lifelong learning, recognized by UNESCO as a guarantee of sustainable human development. Based on the learning organization characteristics proposed by P. Senge (improvement of personal skills, shared vision, group learning, mental models and system vision), a new definition of this type of organization is derived, and it is compared with the definitions of other researchers. Examples of foreign companies that are appropriate to this definition (McDonalds, Walt Disney Company, Coca-Cola, Procter & Gamble, General Electric, etc.) and peculiarities of the learning organization concept introduction in Ukrainian realities are analyzed. The main ways, forms and tools of corporate learning depending on the goals and size of the enterprise – from creating its own educational platform or collaboration with leading educational institutions or service centers to webinars, trainings and distance training of the staff are considered. The author's vision of the life cycle of the learning organization, which in contrast to the life cycle of the normal organization do not consists of 5 phases (formation; growth; stability; decline; transformation), but of 4 (formation; growth; stability and transformation as the ability to respond to external and internal challenges facing the organization) is presented in this paper. Peculiarities of personnel management at such enterprise are offered (special attention is paid to planning of personnel career; flexible and transparent motivation system promoting the introduction of changes and innovations; formation of a certain corporate culture in which training and education are recognized as positive phenomenon at all levels of organizational structure; education of loyalty to the organization among the staff as guarantee of the personnel outflow reduction; attitude to personnel as talents, realized or unrealized, etc.). Prospects for increasing the number of learning organizations in Ukraine are analyzed in this paper.

Abstract:The 21st century is seeing dramatic shifts in the business environment. In order for organizations to adapt to these shifts, they must be more flexible and learning oriented. To thrive in this environment, organizational leaders must facilitate and build the capacity for learning throughout the organization. Organizational leadership is looking for employees to bring more than technical competencies or subject-matter expertise to their work; they are requiring specific learning-oriented competencies such as critical thinking, problem-solving, agility, adaptability, initiative, communication, and collaboration among others. To that end, business education is under heavy criticism for failure to produce the workforce needed to meet the demands of the 21st century. We set out to develop a conceptual teaching and learning model anchored in transformative and constructivist perspectives of learning that engages the whole learner in learning, reflective practice, and interactions with learning facilitators, other learning agents, and actors in a learning context.

Abstract:Contemporary information systems (IS) organizations need mechanisms to cope with both the complexity that is created by rapid technological change and escalating business demands, and the resulting uncertainty engendered in organizational operations and policies. The IS function will not be in a position to manage such changes effectively unless it undergoes a fundamental restructuring towards becoming a ‘learning’ organization. This paper presents a framework that identifies the core drivers than an IS organization can proactively influence as it attempts to become learning-oriented. The framework identifies three essential components: (1) the learning context that defines various dimensions for measuring organizational and individual performance; (2) procedures and management initiatives that will facilitate individual learning to improve such performance; and (3) norms and culture that are established by the leadership to encourage learning. Using a case study methodology, the actions taken by one specific IS organization in its attempts to infuse learning capabilities among its members are examined. The conceptual framework for examining what it takes to be a learning IS organization and the detailed documented experiences of one specific organization may provide valuable insights to other IS organizations in their efforts to become more adaptive and responsive to change.

Abstract:Abstract The author is former CEO of 7‐Eleven, Inc., and Blockbuster, Inc., and has been involved at the board level and other key positions in various nonprofits and artistic organizations. He says that in his career, he “grew to appreciate the critical importance of education to the individual, the corporation, and to the humanity at large.” He says that he has tried to “capture ”what′′ learnings were necessary, “how” to make leadership a dynamic learning process, and “why” continued learning is such a fundamental requirement for effective leadership. I have distilled the what, how, and why of my leadership education into 9 principles I call the “C‐Suite Learnings.” The three areas of what to learn are, in his words, change, confidence, and clarity. In how to learn, they are critical thinking, curiosity, and creativity. For why to learn, collaboration, cultural literacy, and character. “My goal,” he concludes, “is to help others find their own path to academic, professional, and even personal success. By practicing these nine Cs, we can Live to Learn; freeing ourselves from personal and societal constraints that limit our success. Only then will we truly Learn to Live; and in turn Learn to Lead.”

Abstract:With organizational environments becoming increasingly complex and volatile, the concept of “organizational resilience” has become the “new normal”. Organizational resilience is a complex and multidimensional concept which builds on the myriad of capabilities that an organization develops during its lifecycle. As learning is an inherent and essential part of these developments, it has become a central theme in literature on organizational resilience. Although organizational resilience and organizational learning are inherently interrelated, little is known of the dynamics of effective learning that may enhance organizational resilience. This study explores how to achieve organizational learning that can serve to promote organizational resilience. Our aim is to contribute to a more comprehensive knowledge of the relation between organizational resilience and organizational learning. We present the results of a systematic literature review to assess how organizational learning may make organizations more resilient. As both organizational resilience and organizational learning are topics of practical importance, our study offers a specifically targeted investigation of this relation. We examine the relevant literature on organizational learning and resilience, identifying core themes and the connection between the two concepts. Further, we provide a detailed description of data collection and analysis. Data were analyzed thematically using the qualitative research software NVivo. Our review covered 41 empirical, 12 conceptual and 6 literature review articles, all indicating learning as mainly linked to adaptation capabilities. However, we find that learning is connected to all three stages of resilience that organizations need to develop resilience: anticipation, coping, and adaptation. Effective learning depends upon appropriate management of experiential learning, on a systemic approach to learning, on the organizational ability to unlearn, and on the existence of the context that facilitates organizational learning.

Abstract:In today's marketplace, change is a given, and learning is a critical component to the success of change initiatives. In recent years, marketing scholars have proposed that learning is a key to creating a sustainable competitive advantage and enhancing business performance. This article addresses the issue of learning and attempts to establish learning as a legitimate variable for study as it relates to sales force management. To that end, the authors have endeavored to provide, through the positing of propositions, a research agenda for the examination of learning in a sales force context. The authors provide a review of the pertinent literature on individual and organizational learning. Included in the presentation is a discussion of change success measures that go beyond the traditional measure of sales force success—sales volume. In the article, propositions relating various organizational and individual variables to organizational and individual salesperson learning are presented.

Abstract:Missing in the organizational learning literature is an integrative framework that reflects the emotional as well as the cognitive dynamics involved. Here, we take a step in this direction by focusing in depth over time (five years) on a selected organization which manufactures electronic equipment for the office industry. Drawing on personal construct theory, we define organizational learning as the collective re-construal of meaning in the direction of strategically significant themes. We suggest that emotions arise as members reflect on progress or lack of progress in achieving organizational learning. Our evidence suggests that invalidation – where organizational learning fails to correspond with expectations – gives rise to anxiety and frustration, while validation – where organizational learning is aligned with or exceeds expectations – evokes comfort or excitement. Our work aims to capture the key emotions involved as organizational learning proceeds.

Abstract:Many organizations recognize the need to continuously adapt and learn in order to survive and remain competitive. Learning and therefore change in organizations is driven in two ways. First, there is strategically driven learning, motivated by high-level factors such as market changes, company mergers and newly emerging approaches to organizational management and workplace learning. These changes reveal themselves in the introduction of new training programmes, recruitment strategies and knowledge management methodologies. Second, there is local, continuous learning occurring from the ground up. This is revealed as workers become more adept at their job through experience and collaboration with colleagues. Continuous learning is more gradual and requires local autonomy. This paper describes an experiment in supporting local, continuous learning, and its dissemination, but driven by a strategic initiative of the organization. This work raised many issues concerning the difficulty of integrating local and global organizational influences on learning. We outline lessons learned and suggestions as to the extent to which it is possible to align continuous learning with a company-wide perspective.

Abstract:We trace the evolution of research on organizational learning. As organizations acquire experience, their performance typically improves at a decreasing rate. Although this learning-curve pattern is found in many industries, organizations vary in the rate at which they learn. In order to understand this variation, we separate organizational learning into four processes: search, knowledge creation, knowledge retention, and knowledge transfer. Within each process, we present research on how dimensions of experience and of the organizational context affect learning processes and outcomes. Our goals are to describe major findings and to identify opportunities for future research. The article concludes with a discussion of research directions that are likely to be productive in the future. These directions include investigating how new technological and organizational developments are likely to affect organizational learning. Abstract:The phrase `learning in the face of mystery' is borrowed in homage from Barry Turner, who coined it in contrast to `learning in the face of problems', which assumes learning to be voluntaristic, always functional to the organization, synonymous with change. The shift from the one to the other resides in an aesthetic choice between rationality and relationality. In fact, in spite of the huge amount of literature on organizational learning, there is still very little understanding about organizing as a practice based on a distributed knowledge system. At the same time, the normative/prescriptive discourse on Organizational Learning and the Learning Organization is mobilized as a further means of organizational control. The aim of this paper is to explore, from the perspective of the sociology of knowledge, the implicit assumptions underlying the Organizational Learning literature, and to look for alternative ways of conceptualizing learning-working-innovating as non-distinct activities. The term `learning-in-organizing' is proposed as a replacement for `organizational learning', so that its distributed and provisional nature can be considered when interpreted as a practical accomplishment.

The Learning Organization

Abstract:This paper outlines the results of research currently being carried out at Victoria University, Australia, into what is a learning organization, how organizations learn, and how to develop a learning organization. The objective of the present study was to identify the components that underpin the development and operation of a learning organization, i.e. the foundations, or organizational learning mechanisms, that support the development and maintenance of a learning organization. The study identified four facilitating mechanisms: the learning environment, identifying learning and development needs, meeting learning and development needs and applying learning in the workplace. Factor analysis of the learning environment questionnaire identified 12 scales that supported the structural hypotheses, 11 of which had minimum reliability coefficients of 0.70 and above. This research provides an instrument for systematically measuring and monitoring progress towards achieving a learning organization.
