Abstract:In order to investigate the evolution mechanism of mechanical property of unconsolidated aquifer being frozen seasonally, a typical unconsolidated waterlogged soil layer reserved in alpine coalfield of western China was taken as the background and using MTS-810 low-temperature triaxial experimental apparatus; the strength and failure characteristics of frozen samples were studied at different initial moisture contents, temperatures, and confining pressures. The results showed that the peak deviatoric stress and displacement went up with the increase of initial moisture content and decrease of temperature; compared with conventional triaxial tests in which frozen samples witnessed a slow drop of its strength, samples lost the strength more quickly in post-peak residual stage along mining-induced stress path. During the process of post-peak loading and unloading, the loss of peak deviatoric stress was much greater with the increase of initial moisture content, ranging from 18.48 to 28.52%; samples’ elastic modulus was in positive correlation with initial moisture content in pre-peak confining pressure unloading, but negative in post-peak confining pressure loading; grey correlation-based analysis shows that the strength of frozen body is the most sensitive to confining pressure, followed by temperature and initial moisture content.
