Abstract:With the development of technologies like cell phones, radios, televisions, and the internet, the globe has improved. There are many ways to amuse, educate, converse, impart, and shareinformation. There are many different types of programs available nowadays. The public has now become aware of and vocal about the numerous film content infractions. The goal of the current study is to investigate the cultural features of Pashto films and how they affect young people in Karak. Movies have a significant influence on how individuals behave. It is clear that Pashto films promote violent messages, which directly affect the young people who watch them. Data is gathered for this purpose from Khushal Khan Khattak University in Karak's nine departments. The nature of this investigation is qualitative. According to a study, viewers are more exposed to Pashto films, which do not significantly contribute to the erasure of Pashto culture through their content.

Abstract:In this study, we use research publication data from the field of social science to identify collaboration networks among social science research communities of India and Pakistan. We have used Scopus database to extract information of social science journals for both countries India and Pakistan. Study of this data is significant as both countries have common social issues and many of common social values. Keywords analysis has been done to see common research areas in both communities like poverty, education, the issue of gender etc. Despite having many of the common social issues, collaboration among social science research communities of both countries is not strong.

Abstract:Pakistan, the second most populous Muslim country after Indonesia, came into existence on 14th August, 1947, after the division of ‘British ruled’ India (into India and Pakistan). From its inception to present, Pakistan covers a tumultuous history of over seven decades (1947-2019). Among the South Asian countries, no quantum of scholarship has been produced on any country—its history, religion (and religious ideology), politics, society, economy, and other inter-related issue—than Pakistan. This has continued in the last as well as present century. From 2010 onwards, numerous works have been published on religion, politics, military, and other aspects of Pakistan. This review essay, in this framework, presents an assessment of three (3) important works, published in between 2012 and 2014, so that to get clues of the various aspects of Pakistan. Following a descriptive-cum-comparative methodological approach, the books assessed and examined are: Ian Talbot, Pakistan: A New History (2012); Faisal Devji, Muslim Zion: Pakistan as a Political Idea (2013); and Aqil Shah, The Army and Democracy: Military Politics in Pakistan (2014). This assessment helps us in understanding the diverse scholarly approaches adopted (by different scholars) in studying Pakistan. The major argument put forth is that such an appraisal helps us not only in understanding the history of Pakistan, but in analyzing the issues and challenges Pakistan has faced, and is facing—be they religious, political, or related to military and security, etc.

Abstract:The Pashtun subject is derogatorily portrayed in Pakistani or Lollywood movies as either the brave savage, the violent Islamist, or the unkind father and simple-minded clown. These portrayals have their roots in post-9/11 national and international political discourse as well as colonial discourse, which subsequently influenced Pashto movies. The representation of Pashtun subjectivities in cinematic renditions is crucial in establishing their exclusion from the nation's imagined community and political body. It also serves to reinforce the dominance of specific identities over other marginalized identities. This study also looks at the influence of violence in Pashto films on the behavior of the contemporary youth of KP. The information was gathered from three districts, i.e., Peshawar, Mardan, and Karak, of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa; the data was gathered from 300 university students, Male and Female, by utilizing a simple random sampling procedure. According to empirical findings, most KP youth disagreed with the idea that Pashto Language films depict violence in their narratives. Nonetheless, they think that some Pashto Language movie characters are opposed to the customs of the Pashtoon identity.

Abstract:This study aims to determine the social changes that occur among Saudi Arabian teenagers in the Takki film series; the form of social change that occurs in this film series, how the characters respond to these changes, and how they adapt to the changes that occur. The method used is a descriptive qualitative method, the researcher presents a description or narrative about this film series and is accompanied by articles related to the research object. From the research conducted, it was concluded that there were three important points discussed by researcher regarding the social changes that occurred among Saudi Arabian teenagers, namely gender equality, the limitations of women, and also opportunities for the cinema industry in Saudi Arabia. There is still an imbalance in terms of gender equality, the limitations of women which are very visible in this film series, and how the film industry is still very behind.

Abstract:Travelling to a foreign country for higher education has its own challenges, as apart from dealing with academic stress, international students have to overcome various obstacles mainly because of linguistic and cultural differences between their native and the host country.The study explores a series of narratives shared by a Kenyan male student who had been in Karachi for the last five and a half years for earning a Pharm-D degree from a public sector university in Karachi. The aim of this qualitative narrative inquiry was to conduct an in-depth study of the challenges the Kenyan student faced during his five and a half years in Pakistan along with exploring how he succeeded in dealing with culture shock and adapting to the new academic, linguistic, and sociocultural environment in the host country.The data for this study were collected through a series of conversations with the participant collected in the form of stories, spanning over a period of 16 months. The collected data were analyzed through ‘a critical events approach’ based on highlighting critical events contained in the stories of experience. Although the findings of the study provide insights into the life experiences of only one international student, many international students, particularly the Kenyans can relate to it, as they pass through somewhat similar experiences during their academic journey in Pakistan. The findings of this study call for the need to facilitate international students irrespective of their race, religion, and nationality so that they do not feel marginalized in the host country.

Abstract:Over a period of time, Cinema has become an emphatic medium to introduce some major questions in society. The changing depiction of women in Indian Cinema from being labelled as weak and objectified to being shown as strong lead characters have been quite evident. Though there has been a considerable attempt to show the changing status of women in Bollywood in recent films like Piku (2015), Nil BateySannata (2016) and Anarkali of Arrah (2017) with leading female characters who are independent and move beyond the lines of gender stereotypes and patriarchal influences but the lack of complex narrative structure and the lucidity in the narrative techniques fail to make the desired critical impact.

Abstract:Abstract: Every literary work created conveys certain messages about social life from the author's point of view, these messages may be the author's way of addressing real social problems. Social criticism contributed to clarifying this issue. Social criticism will show readers that every literary work is a mirror of social and cultural life.The purpose of this research is to describe the forms of social criticism in the short story "Lailatu Zifaf (wedding night) by Najib Kailani from the perspective of literary sociology. This research uses a sociology of literature approach that focuses on the theory of social criticism. The data collection technique used in this research is note-taking technique. The data that has been collected was analyzed using a descriptive method with content analysis. The data source of this research is the short story “Lailatu Zifaf (wedding night) by Najib Kailani. The results showed the forms of social criticism in the short story "Lailatu Zifaf (wedding night) by Najib Kailani, namely (1) social criticism of forced marriages, (2) social criticism of the barbarity of husbands against their wives, (3) social criticism of the perceived position of women lower than men. And there are two forms of delivery of social criticism in this short story, namely (1) direct delivery, and (2) indirect delivery.

Abstract:Abstract Human experience is more visual and visualized than ever before. This has been obvious in Africa since the 1990s, when democratization, media liberalization, proliferation of small technology, and religious reform movements introduced new ways of meaning-making. Ibrahim’s ethnographic research shows how sharia implementation and cinema as cultural production in northern Nigeria are embedded within the implicit and explicit visual regime of influencing what and how people see, think, and perform. The strategic replacement of cinemas with religious or other “neutral” objects is a visual regime that shifts people’s vision or encounter from one means of cultural production to another.

Abstract:Violence, aggression, or delinquency has been a major concern for almost every society, whether it’s medieval one or modern. Researchers, throughout the history, have given special attention to understand its causes and effects. With the passage of time and with the advent of modern technology this concern has caused great apprehensions. So far as, a plethora of research have been done in the field of media and their effects on individuals. This study focuses on the exposure of violent movies and their effects on juveniles. The media effects studies have great attraction for the scholars of social sciences. Western governments in general and the USA in particular, arranged several discussions and formulated some commissions that not only tried to address this issue and approved some recommendations. This issue has been paid less attention in developing countries like Pakistan. This study tried to explore the effects of violent movies on Pakistani teenagers and then to find out a correlation between exposure to such movies with criminal tendencies. Nevertheless, consistent published studies have reviewed media effects with various outcomes; this study carries empirical evidence that establishes this fact that violent media causes delinquency especially in Pakistani juvenile.

Abstract:If women's angry controversies with oppressive systems have been central to feminist consciousness-raising, expressions of systemic female indignation have tended to be marginalized or suppressed in the bourgeois female-and-family-centered "Socials" born of Pakistani and Indian national cinema cultures in the 1950's through 1970's. Turning to mainstream cinema that responds to feminist mobilization, this article excavates the reflexive role taken by female-star-directors of postcolonial South Asia in unsettling dominant narratives of family and state by way of working paradoxically through their own star identifications with domestic women in social film traditions. Illuminating a hitherto unexplored industrial genealogy of female authorship across South Asia, this study relates star-director-producer Shamim Ara (1942–2016) from the Lahore film industry (Pakistan) to star-director Aparna Sen (1945-) from the Kolkata film industry (India). My argument is that, despite contextual differences, these stars as ambivalent performative "authors" inhabit both cinematic and extra-cinematic media (television, magazines) to rearrange the generic worlds of their fans and produce desire for improper controversies. I examine these intertextual politics of female-star-authorship through the lenses of two entertainment films: Shamim Ara's Action Heroine film Lady Smuggler (1987) and Aparna Sen's Horror Comedy The Jewelry Box (2013)

An Exploration of the Cinematic Adaptation of Manto’s Short Stories in the Light of Foucault’s Discourse Theory

Abstract:This paper explores the cinematic adaptation ‘Mantostaan’, which is a compilation of the four short stories by Saadat Hasan Manto: ‘The Last Salute’, ‘Open It’, ‘The Assignment’, and ‘Colder than Ice’ in the light of Foucault’s Discourse theory. These works are the English translations of Manto’s Urdu works and are taken resort to for deeply observing the visual content of the film adaptation. For Foucault (1977), it is through discourse (through knowledge) that we are created; and that discourse joins power and knowledge, and its power follows from our casual acceptance of the “reality with which we are presented”. The discourse theory is applied on the dialogues exchanged by the characters of the film in the background of the horror during the partition of India occurred in 1947. It also discovers how various kinds of situations, in the turmoil of communal riots, led the characters holding the power position and thus dominating the discourse. The characters of the film thus, driven by their knowledge, create or participate in the discourse. These discourses shape out the situations, consequences of which are faced by the people. Thus, the paper taking into account the partition fracas, focuses upon the situations created by the discourse throughout the time of communal animosity and upon its bewildering aftermaths affecting people’s lives.

Abstract:Hollywood movies have revealed dramatic and varying status of Islam and Muslims, calling them as magical carpets to mummified leadership and, ultimately global bastion of terrorism. Various researchers consider Hollywood film industry as a reflection to construct public opinion in the cinema industry and, it creates crucial slots that rely on emotive and evocative imagination adjustable to stereotypic approach. Many other researchers believe that such stereotypical conception against Arabs (Muslims) roles in US movies later 11th of September attacks prove damaging depictions, notorious recognition of Arabic ethnicity and Islamic religion like harming ideology contrary to past perceptions. However, majority of these researches stress mostly on the movies narratives and could not get triumph or understanding or evaluating the audiences or their reaction to it. Moreover, majority of researchers stress mere the Arabic identity at suitable time to analyze the representation of Islam in movies, neglecting other nations where, Islam is being followed.

Abstract:Humans and creatures live by communication. The start moment of existence is the beginning of communication. But communication has taken different forms in different eras. Communication may be visual, auditory or sensory. In the world of beings, one of these communication methods is used as needed. In the field of visual communication, one of the most important parts is communication through images. This type of communication has been formed since the early times of human existence. Its signs are also petroglyphs that have been found in caves since the past centuries. This relationship changed shape in different eras and turned into painting, photography, and then into cinema and television images.Apart from being an art, cinema is an audio-visual medium that uses a combination of other arts to communicate with the audience. Nowadays, it is used in various ways to establish a communication bridge between cinema producers and social audiences. Because with it, they can convey the content they want to their audience. In essence, cinema is a bridge between the film producer and the target audience. But the type of use of this powerful and effective tool is different. In European and American countries, which are the founders of this means of communication, they use it well. But in the countries of the third world, especially the countries of the Middle East, especially Afghanistan, they could not use this magical tool to establish communication in order to change their society. The reason is the lack of sufficient knowledge of psychology, sociology, cultural studies and cinema technology and the power of image art to optimally use this means of mass communication.

Moreover, the research underscores the significance of social media in youth education and professional development, emphasizing its role as a facilitator of learning, skill acquisition, and networking opportunities. It explores how social media serves as a channel for disseminating knowledge and advancing careers, empowering youth to navigate the complexities of the modern world.This study utilizes a qualitative method, conducting desk review to collect data from secondary sources, to investigate how social media influences the socio-political lives of Pakistani youth. It employs an exploratory approach to delve into the subject matter.The conclusion of this research states that social media serves as a modern tool for communication and plays a significant role in social and political socialization, particularly among youth. While it offers numerous positive benefits such as guiding youth towards socio-political awareness and providing job opportunities, it also presents challenges like online bullying and privacy breaches. Policy makers need to address these negative aspects to ensure that youth derive maximum positive benefits from social media.

Abstract:This research investigates the ideological representations found in the video blogs of two Pakistani journalists, Imran Riaz Khan and Orya Maqbool Jan, and explores their influence on the audience. This study is exclusively qualitative in its approach. Potential ethical concerns are minimized as there are no personal interactions or sensitive information involved. The current research has clarified the ideological representations within the chosen video blogs by employing Fairclough's critical discourse analysis (CDA) framework. Extensive examination of the text, as well as targeted analysis of allusions to other texts and sociocultural aspects, has been conducted to ensure a comprehensive exploration of the topic. The analysis reveals that Imran Riaz Khan and Orya Maqbool Jan skillfully utilize a range of textual and stylistic methods in their vlogs to achieve a particular objective. They effectively meet the essential criteria for conveying a particular ideology. Using syntactic structure and repeated elements, their video blogs highlight the central topic of social and cultural inequity, particularly pertaining to racial bias and discrimination rooted in colour and belief.

Abstract:Audio-visual or film is one of the strategic means of intercultural communication. Films are often used as a medium of propaganda for partisan and partial political interests, leading to misunderstandings of a culture. The destruction of a nation's cultural meanings and values always involves audio-visual media to create psychological effects in building opinion and mobilizing the masses. Iran and its culture are the victims of world misunderstanding. However, the films directed by Iranian filmmakers have opened a ‘cultural dialogue’ with dignity and in an artistic manner. This study aimed to examine Iranian cultural communication patterns through cinema and identify Iranian cultural symbols that influence cultural communication. This research used Symbol and Value Theory. Symbols and values influence political and cultural campaigns. This research employed the Gestalt method that involved descriptive coding of sentences and images and recording of contents. Through Gestalt, we can interpret the meaning and behavior displayed by humans in certain situations. The films ‘Children of Heaven’, ‘Color of Paradise,’ and ‘Baran' directed by Majid Majidi, communicate essential aspects of Iranian culture, showing the spirit of resilience of Iranian society today, which is rarely included in the news due to global politics. The representation of Iranian culture is presented in very natural and simple ways without using visual effects. The reproduction of Iranian culture in the three films above uses a measured, intense, and substantive approach and shooting angle. The spirit of Sufism was reflected in the production process and the Iranian cinematic contents.

Abstract:From the point of view of art, our film songs play a very prominent role in culture, these songs make countless aspects of our society and cultural life their part. Not only the seven colorful aspects of our eastern cultural life. These songs are the focus of thousands of activities related to social relations and social life. Film songs are sung on our every festival and make a place in every ritual, festival and gathering of happiness. Songs with their lyrics and melodies become the true expression of life. There is no moment, occasion or festival in the social life of the Indian sub-continent where film songs do not stand with us as justification. Be it moments of happiness or any hour of sorrow, in every tragedy and every sorrow, songs are our crutches, in these songs the true interpretation of our emotions is shown, thanks to songs, our emotions are never barren, our every feeling is a song. Language is given. Film songs stand with us as a companion, friend, and mourner and become our mourners, benefactors and sympathizers.
