Abstract:AbstractFor sustainable development, it is necessary that various stakeholders, whose needs match, come together and make accelerated efforts toward realizing a recycle economy through active promotion of recycling of industrial by-products or waste. This paper describes some of the research on the effective use of by-products/wastes of other industries in the field of geotechnical engineering with special emphasis on geo-disaster reduction. Recycling of waste tires and disaster mitigation in the context of Japanese experiences are focused here, and various disaster reduction techniques developed in Japan using tire-derived materials are described.
