Abstract:Objective: International scientific publication productivity is a tangible indicator for the accuracy of scientific policies. The quality of scientific publications is not increasing despite the fast increase in the publication count in Turkey. The international publication activities of Turkish anaesthesia clinics have not been previously explored. Thus, we aimed to evaluate the high quality scientific productivity of Turkish anesthesia clinics within the last 10 years. Methods: We searched for studies conducted by anaesthesiologists in Turkey within the last 10 years and published in journals listed under the medical subject categories of anaesthesiology and critical care using 'Thomson Reuters InCites' and PubMed databases. We recorded publication year, subject, method, citation count and origin of each paper and conducted descriptive analyses. Results: There were 630 papers meeting our inclusion criteria. Among those, 525 (83%) were studies on anaesthesia, 66 (10%) were studies on critical care and 39 (6%) were studies on pain. The average citation count was 9.90. There were 376 controlled/randomized controlled trials, 98 observational studies, 66 laboratory studies, 64 case series/reports, 5 reviews and 21 letters to the editor. Studies were conducted by universities (82.4%), by training and research hospitals (15.56%), by state and military hospitals (0.63%) and by physicians in private practice (1.27%). Baskent University had the highest publication count, Istanbul University had the highest citation count and Trakya University had the highest publication count per faculty teaching staff. Conclusion: The high-impact scientific productivity of Turkish anesthesia clinics is in a downward trend in the last 10 years, and the average citation count is lower than the global average.

Abstract:Purposes: This study aimed to classify and analyze the characteristics of the top 100 most cited articles published in journals of orthopedic surgery in Scopus and Web of Science which the first authors were Turkish and the institutions of the first authors were in Turkey. Methods: Scopus and Web of Science databases were searched for the 100 most frequently cited Turkısh orthopedics journal articles published between 1983 and 2020 using the keywords "Orthopaedics," "Orthopaedics and Traumatology," and "Turkey." Results: The most 100 cited articles were all published in English and were published in 33 different journals identified using Web of Science and Scopus. ). The oldest of the most cited papers was published in 1992, and the most recent was published in 2017. The number of citations ranged from 271 in the first article to 52. 84 of the articles were conducted in university hospitals, 11 in training and research hospitals, and 5 in state hospitals, according to the findings. Istanbul was ranked first among the provinces, followed by Ankara and Izmir. Conclusions: According to the results of our study, the list of the most cited 100 Turkısh articles is relevant for the Turkısh orthopedic community and general orthopedic scientific community according to our knowledge. Clinicians can use this study to improve the impact and citation of their future papers.

Abstract:The science of toxicology dates back almost to the beginning of human history. Toxic chemicals, which are encountered in different forms, are always among the chemicals that should be investigated in criminal field, environmental application, pharmaceutic, and even industry, where many researches have been carried out studies for years. Almost all of not only drugs but also industrial dyes have toxic side and direct effects. Environmental micropollutants accumulate in the tissues of all living things, especially plants, and show short- or long-term toxic symptoms. Chemicals in forensic science can be known by detecting the effect they cause to the body with the similar mechanism. It is clear that the best tracking tool among analysis methods is molecularly printed polymer-based analytical setups. Different polymeric combinations of molecularly imprinted polymers allow further study on detection or extraction using chromatographic and spectroscopic instruments. In particular, methods used in forensic medicine can detect trace amounts of poison or biological residues on the scene. Molecularly imprinted polymers are still in their infancy and have many variables that need to be developed. In this review, we summarized how molecular imprinted polymers and toxicology intersect and what has been done about molecular imprinted polymers in toxicology by looking at the studies conducted in the last 5 years.

Abstract:Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) have gathered worldwide attention due to their carcinogenicity and toxicity. This paper aims to review and extend current knowledge on PAHs in aquatic environments in Turkey, where expansion of the marine industry has caused contamination concerns. To assess cancer and ecological risks associated with PAHs, we systematically reviewed 39 research articles. Mean measured concentrations of total PAHs ranged from 61 to 249,900 ng L −1 in surface waters, 1 to 209,400 ng g −1 in sediments, and 4 to 55,000 ng g −1 in organisms. Estimated cancer risks from concentrations in organisms were higher than those from surface waters and sediments. Negative ecosystem impacts of petrogenic PAHs were estimated to be larger than those of pyrogenic origin, despite the predominance of the latter. Overall, the Marmara, Aegean, and Black seas are highly-polluted and need remedial action, while further study is needed to confirm the status of other water bodies.

Abstract:This paper presents a bibliometric analysis of articles from the Republic of Serbia in the period 2006–2013 that are indexed in the Thomson Reuters SCI-EXPANDED database. Analysis included 27,157 articles with at least one author from Serbia. Number of publications and its characteristics, collaboration patterns, as well as impact of analyzed articles in world science will be discussed in the paper. The number of articles indexed by SCI-EXPANDED has seen an increase in terms of Serbian articles that is considerably greater than the increase in number of all articles in SCI-EXPANDED. Researchers from Serbia have been involved in researches presented in several articles which have significant impact in world science. Beside indicators which take into account number of publications of certain type and number of citations, the analysis presented in this paper also takes authorship into consideration. The most cited analyzed articles have more than ten authors, but there were no first and corresponding authors from Serbia in these articles

Abstract:Since 2009, Scopus database is regularly covering the Arabian Journal of Chemistry (AJC). Ten years of continuous and successful journey motivated us to celebrate its contribution through the 1st comprehensive bibliometric study. For simplicity we will divide the abstract in four (4) parts. In part 1, the publications and citations details are provided. From 2009 to 2019, the total number of publications (TP) were found to be 2134, majorly comprising of research articles (n=2009/94.14%) and reviews (n=119/5.57%). The relative per year growth rate (%) from 2009, one way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the doubling time was calculated. The details of impact per publication (IPP), SNIP, % self cit, citation per document, external cites per document, self-citations and total cites are also provided. In part 2, the lists of top ten (10) authors, institutions and countries are described with total number of publications (TP), h-index, total citations (TC), h-index without selfcitations (WSC) and total WSC. We also discussed and provided the list of top ten (10) most cited documents with TC, WSC and other Scopus metrics like Crossref citation indexes, Mendeley reader and field-weighted citation impact. In 3rd part, various other parameters were presented as visualization map, using VOSviewer. Precisely, the co-authorship, citations and co-citations patterns were described in detail. While, based on the co-words analysis of titles, abstract and authors keywords, we proposed the overall trend of publications in AJC. In part 4, we will specifically mention that in 2019, SCImago journal rank has declared AJC in Q1 (1<sup>st</sup> Quartile) state while Scopus has ranked it at 22nd (in 281 general chemical engineering journals) and 45th position (in 398 chemistry journals). From Web of Science (after 2009), we also retrieved the data about the journal AJC impact factor, 5 year impact factor, immediacy index and average journal impact factor percentile. The data confirms that AJC showed a continuous growth in the number of publications, citations, impact factor and ranking.

Abstract:Mankind has been familiar with poisons since ancient times. On the other hand, there is a wealth of knowledge in the medical books including medieval works of Middle Eastern polymaths such as Avicenna, "al-Rāzī," and "Ṯābit Ibn Qurra h ." This study presented and analyzed the knowledge of medical toxicology in one of the mainstay works of "Ṯābit Ibn Qurra h " entitled "al-Ḏaḫira h Fy Ꜥilm al-Tibb" also known as The Treasury of Medicine after the translation of the book from Arabic to English carefully and faithfully. Also, related toxicological literature was applied wherever required using English, Arabic, and Persian databases including Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, WorldCat, Magiran, IranDoc, Scientific Information Database, Noor Mags, Noorlib, and Al Manhal. Our research revealed that chapter 25 of the mentioned book specifically focused on toxicology. This chapter was divided into sections on different aspects of toxicology from the categorization of poisons to compound mixtures causing poisonings to introducing blade poisons to signs and symptoms of poisonings, preventive approaches, and therapeutic agents. Specific antidotes and general therapies were introduced that included medicinal plants, cupping therapy, and bandages, just to name a few. Also, there were some monographs on the common poisonous agents and their treatments. The toxicological data of the book was comparable with modern toxicology. Our study highlighted the contributions of "Ṯābit Ibn Qurra h " to medical toxicology by authoring The Treasury of Medicine. Further research is recommended to elucidate the full aspects of the history of toxicology including the contributions of the past scholars.

The 100 most influential publications in paracetamol poisoning treatment: a bibliometric analysis of human studies

Abstract:BackgroundAnalysis of the most influential publications within paracetamol poisoning treatment can be helpful in recognizing main and novel treatment issues within the field of toxicology. The current study was performed to recognize and describe the most highly cited articles related to paracetamol poisoning treatment.MethodsThe 100 most highly cited articles in paracetamol poisoning treatment were identified from the Scopus database in November 2015. All eligible articles were read for basic information, including total number of citations, average citations per year, authors’ names, journal name, impact factors, document types and countries of authors of publications.ResultsThe median number of citations was 75 (interquartile range 56–137). These publications were published between 1974 and 2013. The average number of years since publication was 17.6 years, and 45 of the publications were from the 2000s. A significant, modest positive correlation was found between years since publication and the number of citations among the top 100 cited articles (r = 0.316; p = 0.001). A total of 55 journals published these 100 most cited articles. Nine documents were published in Clinical Toxicology, whereas eight documents were published in Annals of Emergency Medicine. Citations per year since publication for the top 100 most-cited articles ranged from 1.5 to 42.6 and had a mean of 8.5 citations per year and a median of 5.9 with an interquartile range of 3.75–10.35. In relation to the origin of the research publications, they were from 8 countries. The USA had the largest number of articles, 47, followed by the UK and Australia with 38 and nine articles respectively.ConclusionsThis study is the first bibliometric assessment of the top 100 cited articles in toxicology literature. Interest in paracetamol poisoning as a serious clinical problem continues to grow. Research published in high-impact journals and from high income countries is most likely to be cited in published paracetamol research.

The role of indexing languages in the preparation of bibliographies was emphasized. Also, the bibliographic publications edited at the Institute of Occupational Medicine in Lodz were presented. The usefulness of this literature for the specialists in toxicology and occupational medicine was discussed.
Bibliometric evaluation of Journal of Analytical Toxicology as a scholarly publication according to the Web-of-Science citation database

Abstract:Soon approaching its 50th anniversary, Journal of Analytical Toxicology (JAT) is an international scholarly publication specializing in analytical and forensic aspects of toxicology. Science Citation Index (SCI) and Journal Citation Reports (JCR), both of which are part of the Web-of-Science (WOS) database, were used to make a bibliometric evaluation of JAT articles. Between 1977 (volume 1) and 2023 (volume 47), a total of n = 4,785 items were published in JAT; the top-ten most highly cited articles and the most prolific authors were identified. Changes in the journal impact factor (JIF) were studied between 1997 and 2022, and this metric varied from a low of 1.24 (2006) to a high of 3.36 (2020).The most recent JIF (2022) dropped to 2.5 and the corresponding 5 year JIF was 2.6. JAT's most highly cited article (590 cites) was a working group (SWGTOX) report dealing with standard practices for the validation of analytical methods in forensic toxicology laboratories. JAT published 62 articles each of which were cited over 100 times and the H-index for JAT was 89. The most prolific author of JAT articles was credited with 119 items, the first in 1980 (volume 4) and the latest in 2023 (volume 47). JAT articles were cited 4,537 times in 2022 by all journals in the JCR database, although 520 of these were self-citations (11.5%). Bibliometric methods are increasingly used to evaluate the published work of individual scientists, university departments, entire universities and whole countries. Highly cited articles are considered more influential and authoritative compared with papers that are seldom or never cited.
Monitoring the spatial distribution pattern according to urban land use and health risk assessment on potential toxic metal contamination via street dust in Ankara, Türkiye

Abstract:The urbanization processes with growing vehicle numbers cause heavy metal pollution in street dust, and high populations in metropolitan cities are exposed to pollutants. This paper aims to monitor the spatial distribution of heavy metals and evaluate the concentrations via health risk assessment of HMs (Cu, Ni, Cd, Co, Pb, and Zn) that expose the inhabitants to health hazards. According to the results of the current study, sixty street dust samples were applied to the acid digestion technique and quantification by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The spatial distribution of the selected heavy metals in the street dust was investigated using the spatial analysis tool in ArcGIS 10.0 according to population density and land use. In the present study, we used hazard index and cancer risk methods to estimate the public health risk of the pollutants exposed to street dust in Ankara. The concentrations range of the elements in street dust over the study area ranged from 3.34-4.50, 31.69-42.87, 16.09-21.54, 42.85-57.55, 0.00-3.51, and 23.03-30.79, respectively. The overall decreasing order of mean concentration of metals was observed as follows: Pb > Cu > Ni > Co > Cd > Zn. Vehicle traffic and industrial activities seem to be the most critical anthropogenic sources responsible for dust pollution in the study area. The risk assessment of Pb and Ni exposure was the highest, and the hazard index values were 2.42E + 00 and 2.28E + 00 mg/kg/day for children. However, the effect on adults was 2.62E-01 and 2.37E-02 mg/kg/day, followed by inhalation and dermal contact with street dust was almost negligible. The decreasing concentration is modeled spatially along the western development corridor of the city. The risk to public health is high in areas with high densities close to the city center and the main artery.

Abstract:The evolution of Turkish Journal of Chemistry (Turk J. Chem) Hirsch index (h-index) over the period 1995-2005 is studied and determined in the case of the self and without self-citations. It is seen that the effect of Hirsch index of Turk J. Chem has a highly positive trend during the last five years. It proves that Turk J. Chem is improving itself both in quantity and quality since h-index reflects peer review, and peer review reflects research quality of a journal.

Abstract:European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry (EJMC) has been around for a long time and has gained broad interest from the various individuals working in the field. However, there is no bibliometric analysis on the publications of EJMC to thoroughly assess the scientific output and current status systematically. Therefore, the study was conducted to analyze the various publications of EJMC from 1987 to 2022 to improve their quality. A total of 13,386 papers were retrieved, with the number of publications increasing yearly. Based on the multiple indicators of bibliometrics, the highest impact countries, institutions, authors and representative literature were identified, and visualization networks were constructed using VOSviewer. Keyword co-occurrence analysis reveals a gradual shift from phenotypic drug discovery to target-based drug discovery in the EJMC theme change. Moreover, further discussion of the keyword clustering results is provided to support researchers in defining the scope of their research topics and planning their research directions. At this stage, there is a greater focus on developing antitumor and oxidative stress-related drugs than on the earlier anti-infective activities. In future studies, the main research directions are tumor multidrug resistance, oxidative stress, and dual inhibitors.
Bibliometric Analysis and Systemic Review of Cantharidin Research Worldwide

Abstract:Background: Cantharidin (CTD), a natural toxic compound from blister beetle Mylabris, has been used for cancer treatment for millenary. CTD and its analogs have become mainstream adjuvant drugs with radiotherapy and chemotherapy in clinical applications. However, the detailed pharmacology mechanism of CTD was not fully elucidated. Methods: Publications of CTD were collected from the Web of Science Core Collection database from 1991 to 2023 using CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and Scimago Graphica software. Results: A total of 1,611 publications of CTD were mainly published in China and the United States. The University of Newcastle has published the most researches. Mcclusey, Adam, Sakoff, Jennette, and Zhang, Yalin had the most CTD publications with higher H. Notably, CTD researches were mainly published in Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry Letters and the Journal of Biological Chemistry. Cluster profile results revealed that protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A), human gallbladder carcinoma, Aidi injection, and cell apoptosis were the hotspots. Concentration on the pharmacology function of PP2A subunit regulation, hepatotoxicity, nephrotoxicity, and cardiotoxicity mechanism should be strengthened in the future. Conclusion: Bibliometric analysis combined with a systemic review of CTD research first revealed that PP2A and CTD analogs were the knowledge base of CTD, and PP2A subunit regulation and toxic mechanism could be the frontiers of CTD.

Abstract:Background: Computational toxicology utilizes computer models and simulations to predict the toxicity of chemicals. Bibliometric studies evaluate the impact of scientific research in a specific field. Methods: A bibliometric analysis of the computational methods used in toxicity assessment was conducted on the Web of Science between 1977 and 2024 February 12. Results: Findings of this study showed that computational toxicology has evolved considerably over the years, moving towards more advanced computational methods, including machine learning, molecular docking, and deep learning. Artificial intelligence significantly enhances computational toxicology research by improving the accuracy and efficiency of toxicity predictions. Conclusion: Generally, the study highlighted a significant rise in research output in computational toxicology, with a growing interest in advanced methods and a notable focus on refining predictive models to optimize drug properties using tools like pkCSM for more precise predictions.

Abstract:Malignant tumor is a disease caused by the imbalance of cell growth and proliferation mechanism, which seriously threatens human health and life safety. However, side effects and drug resistance are the key factors that limit the efficacy of anti-tumor drugs. Therefore, it is urgent and necessary to explore and unearth natural, safe and effective chemosensitizers in tumor researches. Curcumin is the main active ingredient in Curcuma, which has anti-inflammatory, anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidation effects, and has inhibitory effects on a variety of cancers. Bibliometric analysis is a scientific and quantitative method to assess the published articles, which can help researchers to find the development trends and the research hotspots of a specific research field, providing the development of future research for researchers. This study searched the Web Science Core Collection (woscc) for publications related to curcumin and tumors from January 1, 2001 to December 31, 2021. The specific characteristics of 1707 publications were analyzed by using Microsoft Excel software, CiteSpace, Vosviewer and online analysis platform of literature metrology. China had the largest number of published articles, with 579 publications. Aggarwal BB's articles total citations and average citations were the most. PLoS One had the largest number of publications, with 32 publications. The current research focuses on "nanoparticles", "delivery", "micells" and "doxorubicin". At present, nano based drug delivery system to improve the bioavailability of curcumin and thus to treat tumors will be the focus of future research.
