Abstract:Ayurveda is one of the world's oldest medical sciences, with a history that goes back more than 5,000 years. The knowledge of Ayurveda has at various times had an impact on a number of branches of medicine: From ancient Greek medicine in the West to the Chinese and Tibetan in the East. Ayurveda continues to retain its prominent position in our modern world, being officially recognised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and enjoying great popularity in the US, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands. In India, Ayurveda is recognised by conventional medicine on a par with modern medical science. In the Soviet Union a strong interest in Ayurveda arose for the first time after the Chernobyl disaster, and since then Ayurveda has been actively developing in Russia. In this article we present the chronology of the development of Ayurvedic medicine in Russia since 1989, explore academic literature on the subject available in Russian and review the existing Ayurvedic products and services offered on the Russian market.
Five-year (2013–2017) trends in the incidence and prevalence of musculoskeletal system diseases among the adult population of Russia

Abstract:Objective: to analyze trends in the incidence and prevalence of major rheumatic diseases (RDs) among the adult population of Russia in 2013 to 2017. Material and methods. The trends in the incidence and prevalence of major RDs were analyzed among the adult population of Russia over 5 years (in 2013 to 2017) according to the statistical reports of the Ministry of Health of Russia, which are based on the data of accounting form No. 12 “Information on the number of diseases recorded in patients living in the region served by a health care facility”. The analysis was carried out in eight Federal Districts (FDs). Results and discussion. Over 5 years, there was a slight increase in the number of patients (by 21,677) with musculoskeletal diseases (MSDs) among the adult population of Russia and a small (0.64%) decrease in their prevalence. Noninflammatory osteoarticular diseases, such as osteopathy, chondropathy, deforming dorsopathies, and arthropathies (74%), were leading among MSDs. The incidence of osteoarthritis (OA) was highest: more than 4 million people, which is a quarter of all RDs. The increase in the number of patients with OA was observed annually, but was insignificant for 5 years – 190.400 people; the prevalence of OA increased by 3.7%. The largest number of patients with OA was registered in the Central (1.1 million) and Volga (0.9 million) FDs. The incidence of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) increased insignificantly in the Central, Northwestern, Southern, Ural, and Siberian FDs and decreased in the Volga and Far Eastern FDs. There was a substantial (21%) decrease in the prevalence of RA in the North Caucasian FD. There was a significant increase in both the incidence and prevalence of spondylopathy (SP) in almost all FDs, except for the Volga FD. In contrast, these indicators for reactive arthritis (ReA) had decreased in five FDs by 2017 and slightly increased in three FDs. These indicators fluctuated in almost all FDs for 5 years. The incidence and prevalence of psoriatic arthritis (PsA) showed a annual increase particular in the North Caucasian FD by 29%. The incidence of PsA slightly decreased only in the Siberian FD. The number of patients with systemic connective tissue diseases (SCTD) increased insignificantly in all FDs, with the exception of the North Caucasian FD, in which the prevalence of SCTD reduced dramatically (by 42%). The incidence of osteoporosis (OP) fluctuated during 5 years; by 2017, there had been its rise in five FDs, especially in the Northwestern FD. The prevalence of OP was found to increase significantly (by 33.5%) in the North Caucasian FD. Evaluation of the age composition of patients showed that OA and OP were more common in the older age group; and ReA; SP and SCTD were in the younger age one. There were no differences in the age composition of patients with RA. Conclusion. The analysis of the statistical incidence and prevalence rates of RDs in the adult population of Russia suggests that there is an increase in the number of patients with this pathology throughout the country.

Abstract:At the present time, the 4P concept (predictive, preventive, personalised and participatory) is a prospective trend in development of clinical medicine. The concept is being actively introduced into diff erent medical specialities. However, the development of personalised approach in medical cosmetology as a speciality at the intersection of medical sciences (dermatology, maxillofacial surgery, plastic surgery, restorative medicine, general practice, psychiatry, clinical pharmacology, etc.) is at the stage of discussion. The concept of 4P medicine suggests, among other things, analysis of genetic risks and development of preventive procedures based thereon that would decrease the risk of cosmetological complications development. The review includes analysis of literature dated 2010-2020. The following databases in Russian and foreign languages were searched using the keywords and advanced search builders: E-Library, PubMed, Springer, Clinicalkeys, Google Scholar. In this paper, we introduce a novel compilation of the known gene polymorphisms that may be used for determination of the genetic risks in cosmetological patients.

Abstract:Objective: Dermoscopy is a useful technique for improving the diagnostic accuracy of various types of skin disorders. In China, dermoscopy has been widely accepted, and domestic researchers have made tremendous progress in the field of dermoscopy. The main purpose of this review is to summarize the current status of dermoscopy in China and identify its future directions. Data sources: Articles included in this review were obtained by searching the following databases: Wanfang, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, PubMed, and the Web of Science. We focused on research published before 2019 with keywords including dermoscopy, dermoscopic, dermoscope and trichoscopy. Study selection: A total of 50 studies were selected. Of these studies, 20 studies were in Chinese and 30 in English, research samples of all the studies were collected from Chinese populations. Results: Since 2000, more than 380 articles about dermoscopy have been published in domestic or foreign journals. Dermoscopy can improve the diagnostic accuracy of neoplastic diseases, evaluating the therapeutic effect of treatment, and determining the treatment endpoint, and it can also assist in the differential diagnosis of inflammatory diseases and in the assessment of the severity of the disease. In addition, researches about the applications of dermoscopy during surgical treatment have been published. Training courses aiming to improve the diagnostic ability of dermatologists, either face-to-face or online, have been offered. The Chinese Skin Image Database, launched in 2017 as a work platform for dermatologists, has promoted the development of dermoscopy in China. Computer-aided diagnostic systems based on the Chinese population are ready for use. In the future, cooperation, resource sharing, talent development, image management, and computer-aided diagnosis will be important directions for the development of dermoscopy in China. Conclusion: Dermoscopy has been widely used and developed in China, however, it still needs to address more challenges in the future.

Abstract:www.dermis.net was established in 1994 as a dermatological information system with now more than 4,000 pages and over 7,500 dermatological images in an atlas. 1,200 dermatological diagnoses and medical information with 1,100 synonyms can be searched by body location and in alphabetical order. Additionally, there are seven information modules about skin cancer, atopic dermatitis, rosacea, skin care, eczema, fungal diseases and hemorrhoids with links to other medical pages like Cochrane Library. Pediatric skin diseases are covered in PeDOIA. www.dermis.net is meanwhile available in German, English, Spanish, Portuguese, French and Turkish language. Current contents of this information system and user behavior are presented in this paper.

Abstract:Objective To review the history of dermatology of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China and to know the contribution of it to Chinese and the globle dermatology.Methods Literatures on dermatology of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China were reviewed and some historical events in the various stages were summarized.Results The history of dermatology of Traditional Chinese Medicine could be traced back to 200 BC.During the developement over 2000 years,dermatology of TCM had formed its theoretical and practical system and many famous Chinese dermatologists had accomplished a lot of achievments.Conclusion The dermatology of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China had a long history and had plyed an important role in the prevention and cure of skin diseases in China and also contributed a lot to global dermatology.
[Treatment of patients with burns in surgical clinics of Leningrad hospitals in 1920-1930s]

Abstract:Objective: To reconstruct the events of early period of Soviet school of combustiology (1920-1930s) via analysis and systematization of clinical and experimental studies devoted to burns and performed in the Leningrad medical institutes in 1920-1930s. Material and methods: We analyzed various reports by employees of the Leningrad medical institutes devoted to practice and theory of burn treatment within the above-mentioned historical period. Results: Analysis of Soviet and foreign reports for 1920-1930s made it possible to systematize data on the treatment of burns in the Leningrad medical institutes for the period from the mid-1920s to the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. We presented experimental data on local and general processes following burn injuries. Conclusion: We discovered and introduced into scientific circulation some reports of Leningrad scientists on clinical and theoretical aspects of burn injuries which fell out of the field of view of modern researchers for various reasons. These data emphasize diverse work carried out by the staff of surgical and theoretical departments regarding the treatment of burn injuries.

Abstract:Skin is the natural habitat for complex bacterial, fungal, and viral communities (ecosystems). The microbiome of such communities is always in close relationship with the host genome, and the development of these ecosystems happens under the effects of morpho-physiological and immunological characteristics of the skin (sebaceous glands concentration, humidity, and temperature) and environmental factors. Metagenomic studies have shown significant diversity in skin ecosystems. Moreover, the role of commensal microorganisms in skin immune response modulating to various agents and, thus, its correlation with skin diseases pathogenesis is no longer in doubt. New probiotic and antimicrobial agents for external treatment have been developed according to these knowledges.

Abstract:Telemedicine is the use of telecommunications technology to support health care at a distance. Technological advances have progressively increased the ability of clinicians to care for diverse patient populations in need of skin expertise. Dermatology relies on visual cues that are easily captured by imaging technologies, making it ideally suited for this care model. Moreover, there is a shortage of medical dermatologists in the United States, where skin disorders account for 1 in 8 primary care visits and specialists tend to congregate in urban areas. Even in regions where dermatologic expertise is readily accessible, teledermatology may serve as an alternative that streamlines health care delivery by triaging chief complaints and reducing unnecessary in-person visits. In addition, many patients in the developing world have no access to dermatologic expertise, rendering it possible for teledermatologists to make a significant contribution to patient health outcomes. Teledermatology also affords educational benefits to primary care providers and dermatologists, and enables patients to play a more active role in the health care process by promoting direct communication with dermatologists.

Abstract:Like many other areas of medicine, dermatology with its comparatively high proportion of Jewish physicians was also not spared from the National Socialist appointment policy with dismissals, laws on "appreciation of the people", research influenced by National Socialist policies, and persecution of Jewish physicians. Prof. Abraham Aaron Buschke and Dr. Wilhelm Ludwig Lowenstein, who were the first to describe the Buschke-Lowenstein tumor, also suffered this destiny. In March 1933, Professor Buschke was dismissed from the position of directing physician at the Virchow Hospital in Berlin and in 1934 his teaching license was revoked. Despite affidavits of his "loyalty to the regime", Dr. Lowenstein fared the same treatment.

Abstract:Reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) is abbreviated as skin three-dimensional computed tomography, which can help clearly observe the structure of the epidermis and superficial dermis. It is a non-invasive skin disease examination method and provides fast access to real-time, dynamic skin micro-anatomical images. Therefore, RCM is widely used in the clinical diagnosis of skin diseases. For example, the RCM features of vitiligo are as follows: pigment loss or partial pigment loss in the lesion area, loss of the basal layer pigment ring. The RCM findings of Riehl melanosis are as follows: basal cell liquefaction and degeneration. The RCM results for verruca plana show: the Rose-like structure. The characteristics of psoriasis under RCM include: hyperkeratosis, parakeratosis, thickening of the spinous layer, capillary dilatation and hyperaemia, peripheral inflammatory cell infiltration. Epidermal brain-like structure was observed under RCM of seborrheic keratosis. With RCM, image acquisition and preservation of the skin is convenient, and the technique is convenient for comparing the development of lesions during long-term follow-up observation. Therefore, it helps to understand disease development in real time and dynamically and can be used to evaluate the curative effect. In this article, we briefly review the technical principles, diagnostic criteria for RCM application and RCM-related research progress in the diagnosis of pigmentary diseases, inflammatory diseases, skin tumours, and other common skin diseases.

Abstract:In recent years, there have been significant positive changes in the organization of ophthalmological care for children, formed the legal basis for the provision of medical care to children with ophthalmopathology, increased the availability and quality of medical care, detectability of ophthalmopathology (6%), increased the results of treatment, which reduced the level of primary disability per 10 thousand of the child population in the Russian Federation has declined from 1.4 in 2004. to 0.9 in 2016. Early treatment has helped reduce blindness and low vision in 2.6 times (from 58.4 in 2009 up to 22.7 in 2016). The rapid development of pediatric ophthalmology is due to the introduction of new highly informative objective methods of research, high-tech surgical and laser treatment in the leading ophthalmic centers of Russia: Federal clinical recommendations on diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of children with retinopathy of prematurity (active phase), myopia, congenital cataracts, retinoblastoma, concomitant strabismus, congenital glaucoma, uveitis associated with juvenile idiopathic arthritis, congenital pathology of lacrimal pathways in newborns and children of the first year of life have been developed and put into practice.

Abstract:The subject of this article is the content of the foreign electronic archival documents of U.S. departments dedicated to the analysis of situation in the Soviet Union. The goal consists in carrying out a historiographical analysis of foreign documentary heritage of the United States within the framework of comprehension of historical experience of the development of the Soviet Union in the 1970s – 1989. The object this research is the published materials of the Central Intelligence Agency and the Historical Sector of the U.S. Department of State, which contain records on the analysis of development of the Soviet Union during this period. Relevance of this topic is substantiated by increased of the publically available foreign electronic archival materials, which requires their analysis, description, determination of information capacity, as well as assessment of information contained therein for further utilization in the historical (humanities) research on the contemporary history of Russia. The novelty is defined by the fact that this article is first based on interpretation of foreign historical sources to describe the capabilities and limitations of different types of published intelligence documents of the CIA and the U.S. Department of State that characterize the development of the Soviet Union in various spheres. Introduced into the scientific discourse documents allow concluding on the prospects of using the heritage of the U.S. electronic archives in the scientific research, as well as assessing their veracity and reliability. The authors note that these materials contain valuable information on the U.S. policy with regards to the USSR, and analytical awareness on socioeconomic development of the Soviet Union during the 1970s – 1980s. It is established that in many cases publication of the foreign archival documents is often of tendentious nature.

Abstract:The article considers particular aspects of the problem of studying the history of medicine in the USSR as educational and scientific practical discipline. On one hand, the history of medicine as educational academic discipline can quite be "ideologized", since education implies not only learning but also education of young man as patriot and citizen. On the other hand, history of medicine as scientific practical discipline is to be delivered from politics and ideology. However, this is determined in greater degree not so much by totalitarian pressing or liberalism of social system as by professionalism and world view of researcher. The monograph by S. N. Zatravkin and E. A. Vishlenkova ""The Clubs" and "the ghetto" of the Soviet Health Care" (2022), dedicated to the Soviet health care and its ideological essence, also is considered. The high significance of the book for understanding of becoming of medicine in the USSR is emphasized. However, this scholar work does not consider medical care of population of the country in clinics of medical universities and academic research institutes of the USSR. Enough attention is not paid to the history of medicine in the USSR as a science. The role of scientific schools in creating foundation for development of medicine in Russia in the late XX and early XXI centuries.

Abstract:Our increased knowledge of normal skin physiology has ushered in a subtle revolution in cosmetic science. Originally designed as preparations to enhance personal appearance by direct application on to the skin, cosmetics have now taken on a new role in dermatology, through the support of the management of many skin disorders. This evolving role of cosmetics in skin care is primarily due to scientific and technological advancements that have changed our understanding of normal skin physiology and how cosmetics modify its appearance both physically and biologically. The vast array of techniques currently available to investigate skin responsivity to multiple stimuli has brought about a new era in cosmetic and dermocosmetic development based on a robust understanding of skin physiology and its varied responses to commonly encountered environmental insults. Most cosmetic research is undertaken on reconstructed skin models crucial in dermatological research, given the strict ban imposed by the European Union on animal testing. In addition, the design and conduct of trials evaluating cosmetics now follow rules comparable to those used in the development and evaluation of pharmaceutical products. Cosmetic research should now aim to ensure all trials adhere to strictly reproducible and scientifically sound methodologies. The objective of this review is to provide an overview of the multidisciplinary scientific approach used in formulating dermocosmetics, and to examine the major advances in dermocosmetic development and assessment, the safety and regulatory guidelines governing their production and the exciting future outlook for these dermocosmetic processes following good practice rules.

To construct these flat tori, obtained via small perturbation of certain Hopf tori in S^3, we first present a global description of all isometric immersions of R^2 into R^4 with flat normal bundle.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Dermatology patients are mostly seen in outpatient clinics; however, there is a significant need for consultations within the hospital setting.METHODS: Here we describe the hospital consultations received by the Dermatology Service during a 3-year period.RESULTS: Most of the requested consultations came from the Internal Medicine Department and the surgical departments. The most common encountered dermatoses were drug eruptions and adnexal diseases, followed by viral dermatoses.CONCLUSIONS: In hospital dermatology may pose a challenge for other clinicians; therefore, dermatologists should be adequately trained to confront a wide variety of clinical scenarios.
