Abstract:In this study, laser ablation technique has been used to decorate multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with Titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) nanoparticles at various concentration ratios (8%,16%, and 25%) of MWCNTs. A variety of analytical techniques were used to characterize the pure TiO 2 NPs and composites, including Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy (RM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV-VIS spectroscopy, Photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy, and Zeta potential (ZP). FTIR results confirmed the composite structure formation. The nanocomposites contain the two primary crystal phases anatase and brookite for TiO 2 NPs, in addition to the CNT peaks, according to XRD and RM results. TEM findings showed that the MWCNTs were successfully covered with discrete clusters of TiO 2 with particle sizes ranging from 6 to 41 nm, as well as the bare MWCNTs surface after the laser irradiating process with laser energy of 100 mJ for 25 pulses. The results exhibited that the absorbance properties of TiO 2 @MWCNTs are superior to those of pure TiO 2 nanoparticles and that the bandgap value of TiO 2 NPs decreases from (3.8 to 3.6) eV as MWCNTs loading increases. PL spectra revealed a decrease in charge recombination with increased MWCNTs loading. The zeta potential of TiO 2 @MWCNTs increased as MWCNT loading increased. In contrast to traditional preparation methods (chemical and physical), which are frequently costly and potentially harmful to both the environment and the user, we report in this study on the rapid preparation of TiO 2 @MWCNTs via laser ablation technique.
