Abstract:Ionic liquids, with their unique properties, including low volatility, high polarity, good thermal stability over a wide temperature range and selective dissolving capacity by a proper choice of cations or anions, have attracted increasing interest in the organic transformations as reactioin medium as well as catalyst (ligand). Compared with traditional organic solvents, ionic liquids have great advantages in obtaining products with high isolated yields and good to excellent selectivities, accelerationg reaction rate in some cases, ease of work-up, as well as recycling use with or without catalysts after simply recoveration. The paper reviews the advanced progress in the application of ionic liquids as reaction medium as well as catalysts to organic synthesis, mainly including coupling reaction, Michael addition, Baylis-Hillman reaction, Diels-Alder reaction, Aldol reaction, Knoevenagel condensation, cyclorization reaction, alkylation and acylation, oxidation and reduction etc.

Abstract:A novel ionic liquid of acidic quaternary phosphonium salt type was synthesized to instead of sulfuric acid was investigated,and it with Pt/C form bi-catalyst system and was used for the one step synthesis of p-aminophenol by catalytic hydrogenation of nitrobenzene.Among the four acidic quaternary phosphonium salt ionic liquids,catalytic performance of [HSO3(CH2)4P(Ph)3]HSO4 is superior to [HSO3(CH2)4P(Ph)3]CF3SO3,[HSO3(CH2)4P(Ph)3]CH3(C6H4)SO3 and [HSO3(CH2)4P(C4H9)3]HSO4.Under the reaction conditions of 85 ℃,0.2 MPa,4 h,Pt/C 0.2 g,NB 3.5 g,Ils 40 mL(m(IL)/m(NB)=7),1 000 r/min,nitrobenzene conversion was 86.54% and paminophenol yield was 48.98%.The experimental results indicated that the bi-catalyst system can be reused.

Abstract:Carbon capture and storage (CCS) and carbon capture and utilization (CCU) are two kinds of strategies to reduce the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere, which is emitted from the burning of fossil fuels and leads to the greenhouse effect. With the unique properties of ionic liquids (ILs), such as low vapor pressures, tunable structures, high solubilities, and high thermal and chemical stabilities, they could be used as solvents and catalysts for CO2 capture and conversion into value-added chemicals. In this critical review, we mainly focus our attention on the tuning IL-based catalysts for CO2 conversion into quinazoline-2,4(1H,3H)-diones from o-aminobenzonitriles during this decade (2012~2022). Due to the importance of basicity and nucleophilicity of catalysts, kinds of ILs with basic anions such as [OH], carboxylates, aprotic heterocyclic anions, etc., for conversion CO2 and o-aminobenzonitriles into quinazoline-2,4(1H,3H)-diones via different catalytic mechanisms, including amino preferential activation, CO2 preferential activation, and simultaneous amino and CO2 activation, are investigated systematically. Finally, future directions and prospects for CO2 conversion by IL-based catalysts are outlined. This review is benefit for academic researchers to obtain an overall understanding of the synthesis of quinazoline-2,4(1H,3H)-diones from CO2 and o-aminobenzonitriles by IL-based catalysts. This work will also open a door to develop novel IL-based catalysts for the conversion of other acid gases such as SO2 and H2S.

Abstract:A simple and highly efficient method for the aqueous copper-catalyzed coupling reactions with the aid of a commercially available surfactant (TPGS-750-M) is reported. In an aqueous micellar medium, 2-halobenzoic acids derivatives reacted with amidines and guanidines and generated the corresponding quinazolinone derivatives in good to excellent yields in the range of room temperature to, at most, 50 degrees C. In addition, the reaction medium can be recycled, and this method led to a significant improvement of the E factors in comparison with the previously reported process. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. Abstract:A green method for the synthesis of 2,3-dihydro-2-benzoyl-2-phenylquinazolin-4(1H)-one derivatives, is described in high yields using ionic liquids as green media. The method involves a reaction of 2-aminobenzamide and benzil catalyzed by iodine. The structure of the product 2-benzoyl-3-phenethyl-2-phenyl-2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-one (3f) was confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis.

Abstract:The ever-growing menace of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) jeopardizes the potency of the prevailing antibiotics against the relentlessly sprouting infections spawned by bacteria, viruses, parasites as well as fungi, posing a great threat to human health and well-being. In this regard, several novel molecules have proved their mettle, with Ionic Liquids (ILs) being one of the most eco-friendly, non-volatile, and thermally stable alternatives to the existing antimicrobials, possessing high solvating potential as well as low vapor pressure. Moreover, the utilization of these entities in both stabilizing as well as destabilizing protein structures and enhancing enzymatic activity has further raised their potential in the biomedical industry. With this in view, we present the green synthesis and characterization of quinoline-based IL, owing to its immense antimicrobial potency, with low cytotoxicity and great artificial chaperone activity. Here, maneuvering the one-pot synthesis approach in solvent-free, greener reaction conditions not only ameliorated the reaction efficiency but also augmented the chemical yield. The purity of the synthesized IL was corroborated using 1H Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), 13C NMR, and Infrared (IR) spectroscopy. The biological potential of the synthesized compound is further validated by analyzing its Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion, and Toxicity (ADMET) properties and authenticated using disc diffusion assay.

Abstract:Ionic liquids can be designed by varying a great deal of anions and cations offering efficient CO2 capture or CO2 utilization. Generally, the anion played a key role, but the cation did not have a significant impact. Here, a strategy for rational design of functionalized ionic liquids for efficient synthesis of quinazoline-2,4(1H,3H)-diones from CO2 has been developed through tuning the cations of aprotic ionic liquids. The basicity of cation affects its catalytic activity dramatically and the hydrogen bond from cation can promote this reaction. Then, hydroxyl functionalized ionic liquid [Ch][Im] was designed, which exhibited the best catalytic activity in this reaction. Through the combination of quantum-chemical calculations, NMR spectroscopic investigations, and controlled experiments, the results indicate that in situ generated [Ch][Im]-CO2 complex is the real catalyst. Furthermore, aprotic IL [Ch][Im] exhibits good generality and reuseability. Remarkably, quinazoline-2,4(1H,3H)-dione can also be obtained under simulated flue gas system on a gram scale with excellent yield using [Ch][Im] as catalyst. As we know, this is the first time that obtains quinazoline-2,4(1H,3H)-dione in excellent yield under flue gas condition

Abstract:A wide range of isoquinoline ring-modified Quinap oxides with different steric and electronic variations have been constructed through a palladium-catalyzed imidoylative cyclization of arylethenyl isocyanides with 2-diphenylphosphinyl-1-naphthyl bromides. The Pd-catalysis plays dual roles in the formation of both axial C–C bond and isoquinoline ring. This de novo synthetic strategy features good functional group tolerance, high yields and easy scale-up, providing Quinap derivatives with substitution patterns that could not be obtained using coupling reactions. Chiral ligands 7 and 12 can be readily prepared by transformation of the resulting Quinap oxide to their BINOL esters, and have been proven to be superb chiral ligands for the copper-catalyzed enantioselective A3-coupling and alkynylation of quinoline reactions. In general, the enantioselectivies obtained using ligands 7 and 12 are excellent, and the ee values are higher than those using Quinap as ligand, even three times higher in some cases. Mechanism studies revealed that a monomeric copper(I) complex bearing a single chiral ligand was formed and served as the catalytically active species.
C18‐DABCO‐AA: A Novel Brønsted Acidic Gemini Surfactant for the Environmental Benign Synthesis of 2,3‐Dihydroquinazolin‐4(1H)‐ones in Water at Ambient Temperature

Abstract:We synthesized an acidic surfactant called C18‐DABCO‐AA, which demonstrated excellent surfactant properties, with a CMC of 0.80 mM and a pKa of 3.3. This surfactant effectively facilitates the synthesis of 2,3‐dihydroquinazolin‐4(1H)‐ones in water at 40 °C via the reaction of aromatic aldehydes or ketones with anthranilamide at its CMC. Additionally, the surfactant solution can be reused up to five times. We have successfully synthesized a new acidic surfactant named C18‐DABCO‐AA, which contains octadecyl and acetic acid substituent on DABCO (1,4‐diazabicyclo [2.2.2] octane) unit, with an excellent yield. The synthesized surfactant was analyzed using FT‐IR, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR spectroscopic techniques. Its thermal behavior was analyzed by using the TGA–DTA technique. Our analysis indicates that the synthesized surfactant has excellent surfactant properties. Its critical micelle concentration (CMC) is 0.80 mM as determined by the conductivity method and UV–vis absorption measurement at 298.15 K. Surfactant also showed strong acidic properties with a pKa of 3.3. It is the best catalyst for the synthesis of 2,3‐dihydroquinazolin‐4(1H)‐ones (DHQs) in water at 40 °C. The synthesis is achieved via two‐component reactions of various aromatic aldehydes and anthranilamide in water at a CMC concentration of C18‐DABCO‐AA. The method was also extended for synthesizing DHQs via two‐component reactions of different ketones and anthranilamide under similar reaction conditions. The products were achieved in with yields ranging from good to excellent within 60–90 min. Additionally, the aqueous solution with C18‐DABCO‐AA was reused up to five times with a minor decrease in product yield. The present protocol is fast, energy‐efficient, and can be used on a large scale for synthetic purposes. Additionally, it boasts impressive environmentally friendly credentials.

Abstract:Four novel basic ionic liquids (ILs), based on 1,4-diazobicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO) and 3-chloro-1,2-propanediol, have been introduced as catalysts for Knoevenagel condensation. These catalysts are applicable to a wide range of aromatic/heteroaromatic aldehydes with alpha-aromatic (heteroaromatic or polyaromatic)-substituted methylene compounds in water at room temperature, and they afford the products in excellent yields within short times. These reactions are operationally simple, and the desired products can be separated directly from the reaction mixture without further purification. A possible reaction mechanism was proposed, and the relevant evidence was given. In addition, the ionic liquids used can be regenerated and recycled several times without significant loss of activity. Furthermore, the novel ILs could be efficiently used in a step of atorvastatin synthesis.

Abstract:The utilization and transformation of CO2 under mild conditions, particularly at ambient pressure and moderate temperature, remains challenging and attracts widespread attention. Ionic liquids are considered as green and designable solvents, and have high efficiency for CO2 conversion. Here, a novel aprotic ionic liquid, [Ch][Triz], was discovered as a dual-functional catalyst capable of simultaneously activating CO2 and the substrates, and exhibited outstanding performance in catalyzing the cyclization of CO2 and 2-aminobenzonitriles under solvent-free and mild conditions (such as 0.1 MPa, 30-50 °C), affording a range of quinazoline-2,4(1H,3H)-diones in high yields. Furthermore, [Ch][Triz] IL could be easily recovered and reused up to five recycle runs without obvious activity loss. This work proposes a sustainable approach to CO2 conversion, and holds great potential for quinazoline-2,4(1H,3H)-diones preparation under mild conditions.

Abstract:A type of Al-MCM-41 supported dual imidazolium ionic liquids nanocomposites have been synthesized and efficiently used as catalysts in the one-pot synthesis of 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1 H )-ones. It was shown that the highest efficiency was achieved in the condensation of a range of aldehydes and anthranilamide in the presence of the (2) 4 (0.5) solid catalyst under mild conditions. Hot filtration test confirmed that the reaction follows a heterogeneous pathway. Moreover, the catalyst was stable, very active, robust, and displayed good recyclability without significant loss of catalytic activity after five consecutive cycles during the process. Green reaction conditions, operational simplicity, feasibility, high to excellent yields, sustainability of the functionalized catalyst are the main highlights of the present protocol. Abstract:Primary alcohols and o‐aminobenzamides are electrochemically oxidized to produce dihydroquinazolinones and quinazolinones using NaCl as a cheap and available electrolyte and co‐catalyst. This method employs graphite anode, iron cathode, and iPrOH, resulting in 16 diverse quinazolinone derivatives. The synthesized compounds were characterized by CHN analysis, 1HNMR spectroscopy, and melting points determination. Primary alcohols 2(a–h) and o‐aminobenzamides 1(a–h) can be selectively oxidized electrochemically to yield dihydroquinazolinone 4(a–h) and quinazolinones 5(a–h) in an efficient and chemoselective manner. This methodology employs sodium chloride (NaCl) 3(a) as a co‐catalyst and electricity as the oxidizing agent, utilizing cost‐effective and commercially available materials such as Graphite anode, Iron (Fe) cathode, and isopropyl alcohol (iPrOH) as a solvent and weak base. The synthesis yields various quinazolinone derivatives with diverse structural characteristics in good quantities, showcasing the method's broad applicability. This approach facilitates the production of a range of dihydroquinazolinones and quinazolinones (24 examples), highlighting its versatility and compatibility with different functional groups. Characterization of the synthesized derivatives included CHN analysis, 1HNMR spectroscopy, and determination of melting points.

Abstract:A new series of thiazolium based ionic liquids were designed and synthesized. Their typical physical properties were also studied. The introduction of hydroxyl, vinyl, sulfonic, carboxylic and methoxycarbonyl groups promoted the remarkable change on the general properties of these ionic liquids. The synthesized products were characterized by 1H NMR, FT-IR, TG, mass spectra and elemental analysis. The catalytic activity of these functionalized ionic liquids was investigated in the preparation of benzimidazole derivatives, N-substituted pyrroles and 4-Hydroxy-6-methyl-[(1-phenylimino) ethyl)]-2H-pyran-2-one derivatives. This procedure gave the desired products in short reaction time with high to excellent yields.
