Abstract:Modern education must meet the requirements of global development, which include development and application of innovative teaching methods. There is a lack of developed guidelines for teaching social dances, despite the growing popularity of such dances among other contemporary art forms in China. There is a need to develop and use in the educational process modern approaches of teaching social dance, taking into account the importance of the communicative component. A survey was administered to 94 dance class participants who were selected and divided into two groups: the first included 48 participants working according to the developed method, and the second comprised 46 participants, who were taught according to the method of Messerer. The survey results represent a significant increase in general mood, well-being, and social activity among those dancers who were engaged in social dance according to the developed technique. 52.2% of the respondents described their mood as average before dancing classes; after dancing, the number of those with average mood increased (54.4%). The number of the respondents with high mood level increased from 32.6% to 39.1% after dancing. The primary task of social dancing can be achieved by the gradual study of the dance pattern from general to the unit, a gradual complication of movements and combinations, and the ability to practice the acquired skills through improvisation. After training according to the developed methodology, a survey was conducted among the participants to find out their opinion on modern approaches to training. The survey indicators show that 95% of students prefer modern approaches based on interactive technologies and only 5% of them support traditional teaching methods. In addition, most of the participants (87%) were sure that modern teaching approaches should be incorporated into the curriculum. 92% of students said that modern approaches influence the effectiveness of choreographic training. The survey results represent the need to implement modern approaches in curricula. Further research can focus on the impact of various innovative interactive technologies on the effectiveness of teaching not only social but also other contemporary dance types.
