Factors Influencing the Intention of University Students to Adopt and Use E-Government Services: An Empirical Evidence in China

Abstract:This research article examines the intention of university students to adopt and use e-government services in China. The unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) was used as the theoretical framework for this study. A total of 369 valid responses were collected from Chinese citizens (college students) and used for the data analysis. The data analysis was conducted with SPSS. The results of this study have demonstrated that facilitating conditions, perceived service quality, trust in the government, and social influence were significant predictors of the intention of university students to adopt and use e-government services. Interestingly, performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and trust in the Internet were not significant determinants of the intention to use e-government services. Social influence was significant in determining the trust in the Internet but was not significant in predicting the trust in government. The implications of these findings for the implementation of e-government are discussed.
