Abstract:Knowledge sharing has been highlighted as a desirable behavior in organizations since it contributes significantly to firms' innovation and competitive advantage. One important way to promote knowledge sharing in organizations is through promoting employees' collectivism, or collectivist orientation, as it is shown that employees' collectivist orientation has positive effect on knowledge sharing through the partial mediating role of in-group identification. In this study, we want to follow on this cultural perspective on knowledge sharing by investigating how precisely collectivism affects knowledge sharing at the various dimensions that are known to constitute collectivism. Drawing on empirical data from a questionnaire survey with 512 knowledge sensitive Chinese employees, we have several findings. First, we highlight that collectivism affects knowledge sharing at its different dimensions. Secondly, we find that at different dimensions of collectivism in-group identification plays different mediating roles. Thirdly, we also find that at certain dimensions of collectivism, collectivism's effect on the sharing of common and key knowledge is also different. Overall, our study enriches the cultural perspective on knowledge sharing by articulating in details how collectivism affects knowledge sharing through in-group identification.

Results show that: the strength of network tie to be a direct driving force in knowledge diffusion through focal firms while organizational learning capacity is also directly involved in pushing the process along. This conclusion is supported by an analysis of a multi-case study.

Abstract:Knowledge collaboration (KC) is an important strategy measure to improve knowledge management, focusing on not only efficiency of knowledge cooperation, but also adding value of intellectual capital and social capital. In virtual teams, many factors, such as team’s network characteristics, collaborative culture, and individual collaborative intention, affect the performance of KC. By discussing the nature of KC, this paper presents that the performance of can be measured from two aspects: effectiveness of collaboration and efficiency of cooperation. Among them, effectiveness of collaboration is measured through value added and efficiency of cooperation is measured through accuracy and timeliness. Then the paper discusses the factors affecting the performance of KC from network characteristics, individual attributes and team attributes. The results show that network characteristics, individual attributes and team attributes in virtual team have significant impacts on the performance of KC.

Abstract:Knowledge is an important mean for enterprises to acquire knowledge,especially tacit knowledge,from other organizations.However,many knowledge alliances had failed.To solve this problem,researchers have conducted many investigations.This study first has a literature review about the researches on knowledge.As most research focus mainly on the socio-psychological aspects of the alliance,this article study the structure factors of the alliance,including the investment of the alliance,the members' resource structure,the consistency of the members' strategic objects and etc.By studying a game theory model,this article conducts a two-steps analysis of the influence of these factors on the formation and development of the knowledge alliances.It also studies the inter-act of these factors.The results may provide some insightful managerial implication to help firms make appropriate decisions on behaviors within the knowledge alliance.

Abstract:For Chinese firms,international strategic alliance has been one ideal way of knowledge acquisition from their partners.However,Chinese firms haven't attained the expected outcome from it.Therefore,the main purpose of this study is to explore the effect of alliance experience on knowledge acquisition and the mediating effect of collaborative know-how.The conclusion is that the general alliance experience has a positive effect on collaborative know-how and knowledge acquisition.The effect of partner-specific alliance experience on collaborative know-how and knowledge acquisition exhibits diminishing marginal returns: as partner-specific alliance experience increases,its contribution decreases.For Chinese firms,the more the collaborative know-how is gotten from the alliance experience,the more knowledge acquires from their international partners.

Abstract:Strategic alliances play a critical role in global innovation. Firms can overcome resource constraints and achieve superior innovative performance not only by using internal resources but also by acquiring knowledge-based capabilities from alliance partners. In this study, the authors investigate how knowledge acquired from alliance partners affects organizational knowledge creation, which in turn leads to innovative performance. The authors propose that the knowledge–innovation relationship is stronger in international alliances than domestic alliances. The results from a survey of 127 German firms engaged in strategic alliances confirm that knowledge creation mediates the effect of knowledge acquisition on innovative performance and that international alliances strengthen the effect of knowledge creation on innovative performance. In addition, the authors find that interfirm cooperation and competition coexist in strategic alliances and that both factors increase knowledge acquisition, though from different motivational bases.

Abstract:Introduction There are 2 approaches in the area of team diversity research.The first approach is to categorize types of diversity and then subdivide it.Scholars subdivided the diversity into race,age,gender,character,functional background,tenure,educational level,and so on,and then studied the effects of diversity on performance.The second approach is to study the intervening process,i.e.,conflict,which enables to determine the mechanism of the effect of diversity on performance.However,previous studies have some limitations.First,there is no comparison study on the 2 approaches.Secondly,previous studies hardly separated knowledge difference from diversity.Thirdly,these studies distinguished only the types of diversity but not the level of diversity.Hence,our study separated knowledge difference from team diversity and explored 3 questions.First,what is the impact of knowledge difference on team performance? Second,what is the difference between influence of knowledge difference alone and knowledge difference along with knowledge conflict on team performance? Third,what is the impact of different levels of knowledge difference on team performance? Method This study applied the experimental method and adopted a 2×2 between-subjects design.The independent variables were knowledge difference(2 levels:high and low) and knowledge conflict(2 levels:existent and inexistent).The dependent variable was creativity marks of the team.The experimental task required each team to present an innovative project based on experimental materials.Three experts used a 9-point rule to assign marks to these projects based on the level of creativity.The marks assigned by the 3 experts were summed to obtain the total creativity marks of each team.A total of 162 students(40 teams) participated in this experiment.ANOVA was used to analyze the data.Results 1.When the level of knowledge difference was low,knowledge conflict played a positive role in team creativity;in contrast,when the level of knowledge difference was high,knowledge conflict may facilitate or restrain creativity.Thus,knowledge conflict played a fluctuating role.2.When knowledge conflict was inexistent,high level of knowledge difference played a positive role in team creativity;when knowledge conflict was existent,the impact of teams with high level of knowledge difference on team creativity was not significantly different from that of teams with low level of knowledge difference.Conclusion In this study,knowledge difference was separated from team diversity and was associated with the variable of knowledge conflict in order to determine their effects on team creativity.There is an interaction between knowledge difference and knowledge conflict.Pure knowledge difference always positively affects creativity;however,when it is accompanied with knowledge conflict,mixed effects are observed.Knowledge difference along with knowledge conflict will not only strengthen creativity but also restrain it;this increases the risk of hampering team creativity.If the team needs to be considerably more creative,knowledge conflict should be encouraged in order to generate novel ideas.Although the cost of encouraging knowledge conflict involves the risk of considerably lower performance,it is worthy of implementing this strategy.If the team needs to be considerably more efficient,knowledge conflict should be restrained in order to achieve stable performance.

Abstract:This article focuses on innovation collaboration and examines the different roles of the two types of innovation collaboration on firms’ innovation performance from the perspective of the two types of knowledge distance. Based on this logic, the article also assesses whether the effects of these two types of collaboration are conditional on a firm's connections to the existing institutional structure in emerging markets. The regression results reveal that both collaboration with science-based partners and collaboration with foreign business partners are positively related to a firm's innovation performance, while the effect of collaboration with science-based partners is weaker. Our article also shows that a firm's connections to the institutional structure positively moderate the influence of collaboration with foreign business partners, while they negatively moderate the influence of collaboration with science-based partners. This article contributes to the existing research on innovation collaboration by providing a theoretical framework for understanding the distinct effects of collaborating with different types of partners.

Abstract:Partner selection plays a meaningful role in gaining and maintaining the competitive advantage of knowledge alliance. The knowledge spillover effect impacts the competitiveness of members, thereby affecting the partner selection strategy of the knowledge alliance. Therefore, this paper will explore the impact of knowledge spillover effects on partner selection in knowledge alliances based on benefit distribution. We construct a biform game model of partner selection for a knowledge alliance composed of core and collaborative members. The clique solution is employed to divide the alliance's overall benefits after the introduction of the variables such as innovation efficiency, knowledge input, and marginal loss. Then the influence of the knowledge spillover effect on partner selection for knowledge alliance is explored. Under certain conditions, the core member and members with whom they have cooperated are at the advantage of benefit distribution in the knowledge alliance, while the rest of the members are at the disadvantage of benefit distribution. Enhancing the alliance's overall interests while boosting its competitiveness is made possible by the growth of innovation efficiency and knowledge input. Also, knowledge spillover helps organizations identify and select potential partners, which is conducive to exerting the positive knowledge spillover effect to the fullest, especially for collaborative members who lack cooperation experience, which can significantly enhance their competitiveness. The results offer a useful guide for choosing suitable knowledge alliance partners to fully exploit the knowledge spillover effect.

Abstract:The exchange and sharing of user knowledge in the brand virtual community is an important way for enterprise product innovation. Therefore, how to encourage users to share their knowledge continuously in the brand virtual community is a key issue. Based on evolutionary game theory, this paper analyzes the influence of various factors on user’s knowledge sharing behavior from the aspects of individual factors, mutual factors and community factors. Through simulation, it is found that there exist two evolutionary stability strategies, that is, (knowledge sharing, knowledge sharing) and (no knowledge sharing, no knowledge sharing). And which direction this system evolves depends on the initial probability and critical points of knowledge sharing. Results show that user’s knowledge level in individual level, the ability to transform and absorb knowledge, the degree of knowledge sharing, the innovation degree of knowledge sharing and the incentive coefficient in community level have a positive impact on the user’s knowledge sharing behavior. Meanwhile, the cost of knowledge sharing between individuals, the homogeneity of knowledge and the spillover effect in mutual level have a negative impact on the behavior of user knowledge sharing. What’s more, there is an optimal coefficient of collaborative profit distribution, which makes the system most likely to evolve in the direction of (knowledge sharing, knowledge sharing).

Abstract:Focusing on the basic research subject of "seeking effective ways to enhance knowledge workers' creativity," this paper has surveyed a total of 208 employees from 11 Chinese high-tech enterprises. Based on review and analysis of relevant literature, this paper has constructed a moderating effect model including mediating factors relying on the social cognitive theory and tested the model by hierarchical multiple regression. The results show that there is a significant positive correlation between knowledge sharing motivation and creativity of members in a virtual organization. Knowledge sharing behavior plays a partial mediating role between knowledge sharing motivation and creativity, and self-efficacy moderates the complete mediating effect of knowledge sharing behavior on the relationship between knowledge sharing motivation and creativity. These conclusions enrich the theory of the relationship between knowledge sharing motivation and creativity, and enable enterprises to understand the importance of employees' knowledge sharing motivation and the ways to stimulate employees' creativity by activating their knowledge sharing behavior.

Abstract:Knowledge is a fundamental asset for firms in the contemporary economy. Promoting knowledge sharing within organizations is an increasing v important challenge for managers. Past literature in organizational studies has focused on personal motivations to explain knowledge sharing behaviors. We see an organization as consisting of multiple networks simultaneously, e.g. informational, structural, and relational networks. We propose a model to understand the individual knowledge sharing behavior from informational, structural, and relational perspectives in an organizational context. We find that in the context of interpersonal task related knowledge sharing, perceived value of knowledge, empathy and dependence play a critical role in knowledge sharing while the impacts of competition and relationship building are insignificant.

Abstract:Purpose This paper aims to examine the influence of collaborative culture on employee’s knowledge sharing and how it associated with radical and incremental innovation in Chinese firms. Design/methodology/approach This study used the quantitative approach and structure equation model to test hypotheses with data collected by questionnaire from 371 participants in 68 Chinese firms. Findings The research findings indicated that collaborative culture positively fosters the KS behaviors of employees for radical and incremental innovation. The findings confirm the mediating role of tacit and explicit knowledge sharing and reveal that collaborative culture has a significant impact on incremental innovation, whereas knowledge sharing behaviors have greater impacts on radical and incremental innovation. Research limitations/implications Future research should investigate the impact of collaborative culture on innovation under moderating effects of ownership form or mediating roles of behavioral variables to have better understanding on the relationship among them. Practical implications This study offers leaders a deeper understanding of the necessary factors and new pathways to stimulate employees’ tacit and explicit knowledge sharing for innovation. Originality/value The paper has significant contributed to theoretical and practical initiatives on the theory of innovation which highlighted the crucial role of collaborative culture in facilitating a positive climate for knowledge sharing and innovation.
