Abstract:Present work is an experimental investigation of TIG-MIG hybrid welding process for welding austenitic stainless steels. Concept of using two different welding processes together to achieve advantages of both the process and to overcome deficiencies of both the welding processes is experimented. Novel articulator that can hold and drive both the TIG and MIG welding torches is used for experiments. Design of Experiment (DoE) approach is adopted to plan the control parameter variation, further Face Centered Central Composite Design (FCCCD) is used for optimizing the control parameter against ultimate tensile strength as desirable weld parameter. Elaborate discussion regarding Experimental plan, testing of desirable parameter and results obtained is provided in this article. An attempt is made to study and optimize control parameters statistically using Design Expert software. Statistical model is obtained based on significant control parameters. The article also provides a basis for evaluating direct and interaction effects in a complex phenomenon of TIG-MIG hybrid welding.
