Abstract:Dispersion compensation technique is the most important issue in the optical communication system to overcome dispersion challenges. The current study focuses on a proposed compensation simulation model to handle not only chromatic dispersion (CD) but also polarization mode dispersion (PMD) simultaneously. The present compensation model is designed to analyze and simulate dispersion compensation technique which is based on deploying both fiber Bragg grating and emulator together till 250 km long of optical fiber. Signal to noise ratio (SNR), optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR), gain (G), noise figure (NF) and degree of polarization (DOP) are parameters that simulation depends on.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The main problems that this paper attempts to solve are chromatic dispersion (CD) and polarization mode dispersion (PMD) in optical communication transmission systems. Specifically, the author proposes a compensation simulation model based on fiber Bragg grating (FBG) and emulator, aiming to deal with chromatic dispersion and polarization mode dispersion simultaneously in order to improve the transmission performance of optical communication systems. The paper mentions that chromatic dispersion is an important challenge in optical communication systems, which can lead to signal distortion and degradation of transmission quality. And polarization mode dispersion is caused by geometric inhomogeneity in the fiber manufacturing process. As the fiber length increases, this dispersion effect will be more significant. Therefore, developing effective chromatic dispersion compensation techniques is crucial for achieving high - quality optical signal transmission. By using the method of combining FBG and emulator, this research can not only effectively reduce the influence of chromatic dispersion on the signal, but also maintain high signal quality and stability in long - distance transmission. The experimental results show that this model can achieve an output signal - to - noise ratio (SNR) of up to 69 dB, an output optical signal - to - noise ratio (OSNR) of 65 dB and a gain of 126 dB, and these indicators are all better than other existing compensation models.
