Abstract:Digital transformation is a phenomenon that provides the right demand and attitude for organizations in digital optimization. Digital transformation encourages organizations to adapt to technological developments as a strategic step to support organizational sustainability and win market competition. The purpose of this article is presenting a systematic literature review of the development of measuring the maturity of digital transformation. The methodology used in this article is systematic literature review approach with article collection strategy that discuss digital transformation and digital maturity measurement and is sourced from reputable journals indexed by Scopus and or the Web of Science. There are 1385 articles appear when searching for digital transformation, out of 1385 there are 30 articles relevant to the topic of digital transformation and digital maturity measurement with the range of 2018-2022. The findings of this systematic literature review have 6 levels and 4 dimensions in measuring the maturity of digital transformation in the industrial sector (large, medium, small), there are 8 levels and 7 dimensions in measuring the maturity of digital transformation in health sector, there are 6 levels and 6 dimensions in measuring the maturity of digital transformation in the banking sector, and there are 5 levels and 5 dimensions in measuring the maturity of digital transformation in the education sector. This article supplies valuable insights on the topic of measuring the maturity of digital transformation and can be an opportunity for further research such as evaluating, developing empirically testing in different sectors of the economy in different regions.

Abstract:Digital transformation is a major organisational challenge for manufacturing firms due to the extremely low success rate of such transformations to date. Capability Maturity theory suggests that firms need to develop digital transformation capability incrementally by focusing on a 'vital few' improvement priorities for advancing progress. The practitioner literature lacks empirical studies that validate extant capability maturity models (CMM) for digital transformation despite their importance. Moreover, there is a lack of assessment methods, and those that exist do not specify improvement points explicitly, nor prioritise them. Our research aims to address this gap through a systematic, quantitative analysis of digital capability by understanding the deployment of IT-enabled resources. Based on a sample of 302 manufacturing firms, results indicate that the digital transformation stages are punctuated by various resource-capability combinations. Results highlight that strategy- and organisation-related IT-enabled resources are the key drivers of digital transformation. We also observe that as a firm's digital capability grows at each maturity stage, successively greater IT-enabled resources are required to support this in a stepwise function. To succeed, firms should be incentivised and supported to think beyond technology and develop five specific digital capabilities simultaneously. We also indicate the limitations that underlie our empirical work.

Abstract:In recent years, the concept of digital transformation (DT) reached a solid and leading position in the discussion of the key elements which influence the development and survival of contemporary organisations. Integrating and exploring new digital technologies is one of the biggest challenges that companies currently face. No sector or organisation is immune to the effects of digital transformation. Through a systematic review of the literature, this study aims to understand how digital transformation has changed business strategies. The results show that studies dealing with the relationship between DT and strategic management are incipient. The existing literature was categorised into six main areas of research: (i) analysis of external environment, (ii) analysis of internal environment, (iii) strategy formulation, (iv) strategy implementation, (v) evaluation and control, and (vi) feedback and learning. This paper establishes the grounds for grasping the gaps existing in the literature and proposes a future research agenda.

Abstract:In recent times, organizations purport to undergo unprecedented transformations owing to the adoption of digital technologies. Consequently, there has been a substantial effort in academia attempting to better understand the phenomenon of digital transformation in business organizations. However, a cumulative tradition of research on digital transformation, underpinned by a consolidated theoretical positioning, is compromised by the loosely defined constructs, confusion in terminology and lack of an overarching framework of its nomological net. This paper, therefore, features a systematic review of the assorted and fragmented literature on this notion of Digital Transformation by critically analysing 174 peer-reviewed journal articles published between 2013 and 2021, in over thirty leading academic outlets. The authors provide a consolidated nomological net of digital transformation by synthesizing themes and dominant theories apparent in existing digital transformation literature, which will be useful for future academic studies.

Abstract:Abstract In the last years, scholarly attention was on a steady rise leading to a significant increase in the number of papers addressing different technological and organizational aspects of digital transformation. In this paper, we consolidate existing findings which mainly stem from the literature of information systems, map the territory by sharing important macro- and micro-level observations, and propose future research opportunities for this pervasive field. The paper systematically reviews 58 peer-reviewed studies published between 2001 and 2019, dealing with different aspects of digital transformation. Emerging from our review, we develop inductive thematic maps which identify technology and actor as the two aggregate dimensions of digital transformation. For each dimension, we derive further units of analysis (nine core themes in total) which help to disentangle the particularities of digital transformation processes and thereby emphasize the most influential and unique antecedents and consequences. In a second step, in order to assist in breaking down disciplinary silos and strengthen the management perspective, we supplement the resulting state-of-the-art of digital transformation by integrating cross-disciplinary contributions from reviewing 28 papers on technological disruption and 32 papers on corporate entrepreneurship. The review reveals that certain aspects, such as the pace of transformation, the culture and work environment, or the middle management perspective are significantly underdeveloped.

Abstract:Digital Transformation (DT) has occurred in various sectors, even in the context of villages. This study conducts a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to identify characteristics, stages, and impacts of DT on Smart Villages (SV). Relevant articles are selected following a search in four databases, applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, and assessing the relevancy of the articles. DT progress through stages of technology adoption and strategic change that impact activities. The characteristic of DT in SV is the ease of access, digital literacy, online services, innovation, relevant infrastructure, availability of information, data management, appropriate tools in a platform, and mature use of relevant modern technology. The stages of DT discuss the preparation, implementation, and monitoring stages of concepts and digital platforms. The impact of DT is oriented toward the benefits received through activities and performance in the Village.

Abstract:<p>In this article we provide a systematic review of the extensive yet diverse and fragmented literature on digital transformation (DT), with the goal of clarifying boundary conditions to investigate the phenomenon from the perspective of organizational change. On the basis of 279 articles, we provide a multi‐dimensional framework synthesizing what is known about DT and discern two important thematical patterns: DT is moving firms to malleable organizational designs that enable continuous adaptation, and this move is embedded in and driven by digital business ecosystems. From these two patterns, we derive four perspectives on the phenomenon of DT: technology impact, compartmentalized adaptation, systemic shift and holistic co‐evolution. Linking our findings and interpretations to existing work, we find that the nature of DT is only partially covered by conventional frameworks on organizational change. On the basis of this analysis, we derive a research agenda and provide managerial implications for strategy and organizational change.</p>

Abstract:The increasing digitalization of economies has highlighted the importance of digital transformation and how it can help businesses stay competitive in the market. However, disruptive changes not only occur at the company level; they also have environmental, societal, and institutional implications. This is the reason why during the past two decades the research on digital transformation has received growing attention, with a wide range of topics investigated in the literature. The following aims to provide insight regarding the current state of the literature on digital transformation (DT) by conducting a systematic literature review. An analysis of co-occurrence using the software VOSviewer was conducted to graphically visualize the literature’s node network. Approached this way, the systematic literature review displays major research avenues of digital transformation that consider technology as the main driver of these changes. This paper qualitatively classifies the literature on digital business transformation into three different clusters based on technological, business, and societal impacts. Several research gaps identified in the literature on DT are proposed as futures lines of research which could provide useful insights to the government and private sectors in order to adapt to the disruptive changes found in business as a result of this phenomenon, as well as to reduce its negative impacts on society and the environment.

Abstract:The phenomena of technology and digitalization have developed rapidly most recently, leaving traces in all branches of industry. With the prevalence of Industry 4.0 and with digitalization being on the rise, companies have expanded more and more successfully. Thus, in addition to global supply chains, their own supply chains have also started to develop considerably. The aim of our research is to discover the factors characterizing the digital transformation of companies in the Central and Eastern European region. This article assesses the conditions, key drivers, and barriers of digital transformation and the benefits expected by companies operating in the agricultural and food supply chains. The research is based on a questionnaire survey of over hundred companies. From the answers, models were created to each group of questions by using factor analysis. The results show that the most important motivating factors are quality improvement, market pull, and technological push impacts. The barriers identified are largely consistent with those reported in the contemporary literature. Companies expect benefits mostly from “sales and customer relations”, followed by “logistics and marketing”, and “production and sourcing”.

Abstract:The adoption and integration of digital technology in organizations are crucial not only for communication, administration and management, but also a meaningful asset to support learning and teaching as well as organizational change. However, existing models of educational technology adoption and integration predominantly focus on school settings as well as on individual factors explaining the assimilation processes. Therefore, this research intents to fill the gap of a holistic model of technology adoption in educational organizations through developing a theoretically grounded maturity model. In a case study, the maturity model of technology adoption was implemented in an European educational organization. The study included <em class="EmphasisTypeItalic">N</em> = 222 employees in two waves of data collection. Findings indicate a positive attitude towards IT and digital media within the respective organization. Overall, the educational organization was classified as digitally pragmatist. It is suggested that maturity model development should be highly transparent, following a clear methodology. Model evaluation and validation should be carried out before transfer and generalization can take place. Factors mediating digital maturity and organizational performance on individual (i.e., motives, attitudes) and on organizational level (i.e., organizational culture) should be taken into consideration. For successful technology adoption processes, organizational and human resource development ought to go hand in hand, supported by a sound communication strategy.

Abstract:The ongoing and ubiquitous digital transformation challenges the raison d'être of firms and forces managers to rethink business strategies and operations and academics to reconsider related theories. To aid these efforts, we conduct a systematic review of research on firms' digital transformation, generating a database of 537 peer-reviewed academic articles and analyzing it using a novel multi-layered framework. The framework separates three layers: an organization's core activities, its peripheral activities, and its external environment. We find that firms that have come far in their transformations are more embedded in platform ecosystems with unclear business boundaries. Relatedly, we identify a tension between decentralizing versus centralizing power across organizational layers during a firm's digital transformation and how this dynamic affects corporate strategies and firms' internal and external boundaries.

Abstract:Abstract The incessant changes in technology generate new products and services, presenting multiple opportunities for the complex educational environment. Consequently, higher education institutions must be attentive to these changes to ensure that students have the knowledge and skills necessary for the work environment. This research aimed to identify studies related to digital transformation and digital literacy in higher education institutions through a systematic study of literature. The search resulted in 830 articles published in the Scopus and Web of Science databases from 2015 to 2022. Quality questions, inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied where 202 articles were selected for the study. The results show (a) interest of educational institutions in empirical studies where technologies are incorporated for didactic purposes, (b) challenges of opportunity in training programs to develop digital competences of teachers and students, (c) little interest in the development of media literacy, (d) the methodological aspects of the studies allow exploring new perspectives of digital transformation in higher education. This article may be of interest to academics, decision-makers and trainers of future professionals to introduce educational technology into learning processes in line with the complex demands of the world of work and society.
Design features of digital transformation maturity models: a systematic literature analysis and future research directions

Abstract:Purpose This study aims to analyze and synthesize the design features of existing digital transformation maturity models with a developed classification scheme and propose a generic maturity model development wireframe based on design science research. Design/methodology/approach A systematic literature review is conducted on digital transformation maturity models in peer-reviewed journals, including the Emerald Insight, Science Direct, Scopus, Taylor & Francis and Web of Science databases, which resulted in 21 studies. A concept-centric tabular approach is used to analyze the studies, and intersectional demonstrations are used to synthesize the findings regarding the design features. Findings The classification scheme derived from the tabular concept-centric approach and iteratively evolved results in three main and 25 subcategories related to the design features. Analysis and synthesis of the studies reveal the granularity of the existing digital transformation maturity models concerning the design features. Furthermore, considering the design features in the classification scheme, a generic maturity model development wireframe is proposed to guide the researchers. Research limitations/implications The generic maturity model development wireframe and the classification scheme that represents the design features of existing maturity models guide the researchers for the maturity model development roadmap. Originality/value The existing literature review studies do not focus on the design feature of digital transformation maturity models within a systematic literature review perspective. A unique classification scheme derived from the tabular concept-centric approach aims to analyze the granularity level of the existing models. Furthermore, the generic maturity model development wireframe includes the guidelines and recommendations of design science studies and presents a roadmap for maturity model researchers.

How to Measure Digitalization? A Critical Evaluation of Digital Maturity Models

Abstract:To preserve competitive advantage in a more and more digitalized environment, today’s organizations seek to assess their level of digital maturity. Given this particular practical relevance, a plethora of digital maturity models, designed to asses a company’s digital status quo, has emerged over the past few years. Largely developed and published by practitioners, the academic value of these models remains obviously unclear. To shed light on their value in a broader sense, in this paper we critically evaluate 17 existing digital maturity models – identified through a systematic literature search (2011–2019) – with regard to their validity of measurement. We base our evaluation on established academic criteria, such as generalizability or theory-based interpretation, that we apply in a qualitative content analysis to these models. Our analysis shows that most of the identified models do not conform to the established evaluation criteria. Based on these insights, we derive a detailed research agenda and suggest respective research questions and strategies.

Abstract:Agriculture plays a crucial role in Romania's economy, a fact that accelerates the search for ways to maximize production yield and profit. The aim of the paper is to study the characteristics of the transformation of agriculture in the context of digitization. Research methods include scientific and theoretical approaches to assess the state of agriculture and its potential in the context of digitization, such as system and situation analysis. The current stage of agricultural development is characterized by a significant transformation of management and production processes due to the introduction of digital technologies. The experience has convincingly shown that the traditional forms of development of agricultural production have practically exhausted themselves. In the new conditions of financial and economic activity, the scientific and technological progress becomes decisive. In agriculture, the digital transformation has a significant impact on material and human resources, increases the productivity of crops, improves the quality of agricultural and livestock products. The digitization of agriculture is extremely important, because it is a source of agricultural economic growth and can become a strong incentive for the innovative development of the sector. Investments in the development of digital infrastructure in rural areas can improve the living conditions of the rural population, with local authorities solving more efficiently the problems within their competence. Also, the digitalization of agriculture will promote the development of small farms in rural areas and contribute to the diversification of the rural economy.

Abstract:Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are key drivers of economic growth and development. Innovation through digital transformation has the capacity to enable sustainability, competitiveness and customisation in products and services. However, adoption of digital technologies by SMEs to underpin sustainability outcomes is poorly understood. A systematic literature review identified an initial dataset of 1300 articles, which after screening and application of exclusion criteria resulted in a dataset of 64 articles for synthesis. Analysis was carried out according to three main areas, namely the technology aspects of digital transformation, sustainable development according to the triple bottom line (i.e. economic, environmental and social aspects), and the business characteristics of SMEs. In the latter case, business strategy and management, organizational structure, organizational culture, skills and qualifications, and leadership factors are identified from the literature. Furthermore, literature expressing the triple bottom line dimensions and the type of Industry 4.0 technology areas adopted are synthesized. Correlation of the data through bibliographic analysis is provided on the type of technology enabling SMEs towards a pathway for sustainable development as well as synthesis of future research directions arising from the study.

Abstract:Economic, environmental and social sustainability is increasingly gaining the attention of academia and commitment in the policies of national economies. Global warming and climate change, weather disasters and disruptions are just some of the challenges that can drastically disrupt stable business models, and thus jeopardize sustainability. Agriculture, as an activity at the center of the value chain, is facing these problems, and, at the same time, contributes to feeding the growing world population and is responsible for conserving resources and ensuring sustainability. Process automation, data analysis and processing, control and management of agricultural operations have transformed the agricultural business and contributed to sustainability, survival and development within supply chains. This article analyzes the literature in the field of sustainability and agriculture led by digital technologies of Industry 4.0. The analysis of the research field showed the high importance of the topic in academic and national circles, given the number of published articles. Secondly, the concepts of sustainable agriculture and sustainability driven agriculture in the context of digital transformation were analyzed and it was shown that transformed agriculture can successfully cope with today’s challenges. Finally, guidelines for sustainable development driven by agriculture through the determinants of digital transformation are defined.

Abstract:Regardless of the times that are increasingly growing and developing. The transformation of farming activities also needs to be adjusted. What is usually called digital transformation combined with supply chain management. This paper aims to look at recent knowledge trends and development strategies in supply chain activities in agriculture. The writing method uses Systematic Literature Review (SLR), bibliometric analysis, and crucial route main path analysis . The results of this research show that there is an emerging knowledge trend regarding digital transformation in agriculture. Hopefully, this research can become a reference for scholars, academics and agribusiness practitioners in developing agriculture in Indonesia as a form of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030, one of which is alleviating poverty among farmers. Then, it can become a recommendation and evaluation for all marketing channels in the management supply chain, especially farmers and companies and become a reference for the government in determining policies that lead to farmer welfare.
