Abstract:Nanoparticles of cerium oxide CeO2 are important nanomaterials with remarkable properties for use in both industrial and non-industrial fields. In a general way, doping of oxide nanometric with transition metals improves the properties of nanoparticles. In this study, nickel- doped cerium oxide nanoparticles were synthesized from Stevia rebaudiana extract. Both doped and non-doped nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy, Energy Dispersive X-ray, Raman spectroscopy, and Vibrating-Sample Magnetometry analysis. According to X-ray diffraction, Raman and Energy Dispersive X-ray crystalline and single phase of CeO2 and Ni doped CeO2 nanoparticles exhibiting fluorite structure with F2g mode were synthesized. Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy shows that CeO2 and Ni doped nanoparticles have spherical shape and sizes ranging of 8 to 10 nm. Ni doping of CeO2 results in an increasing of magnetic properties. The enhancement of ultraviolet protector character via Ni doping of CeO2 is also discussed.

Abstract:Nanomaterials, as an active ingredient, have been widely deployed in various science and technological applications with zinc and titanium oxides nanoparticles being commonly applied in sunscreens. On similar lines, cerium oxide nanoparticles (CeO2-NPs) were synthesized using Musa sapientum peel extract, to investigate its cytotoxic effects, UV protection and photocatalytic activity. The synthesized nanoparticles were identified through Raman, Powder X-ray Diffraction (PXRD), Fourier-Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) and Energy-Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDX). FESEM results showed that the size of synthesized nanoparticles is in the range 4–13 nm. Their cytotoxic activity revealed a non-toxic behavior in concentrations below 500 μg/mL on lung (A549) cell lines. The Sun protection factor (SPF) was estimated approximately ~ 40 for synthesized CeO2-NPs. The survey of photocatalytic activity showed that synthesized nanoparticles can remove 81.7% of AO7 in 180 min under visible light.

Abstract:Pedalium Murex leaf extract was used in this study to create Nickel-doped Cerium oxide (Ni-CeO 2 ) nanoparticles at 3 mol% and 5 mol% molar concentrations. The biosynthesized process was applied for the fabrication of Ni-CeO 2 NPs. The X-ray diffraction method was used to identify their crystal structure. The XRD measurements showed that the Ni-CeO 2 NPs crystallized into the face-centred cubic system. Fourier transform infrared spectral study was applied to explore the molecular vibrations and chemical bonding. The surface texture and chemical ingredients of Ni-CeO 2 NPs were studied using field-emission scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis. The EDX mapping spectra illustrate the uniform dispersal of Ce, Ni, and O atoms over the sample's surface. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was conducted to confirm the chemical state of the Ni-CeO 2 NPs. UV–Vis spectrum study was performed to ascertain the photon absorption, bandgap, and Urbach edge of Ni-CeO 2 NPs. Photoluminescence (PL) research has been used to study the light-emitting characteristic of Ni-CeO 2 NPs. The emissive intensity transition corresponding to Ni-CeO 2 NPs was found to increase with the dopant level. The CIE 1931 chromaticity map was plotted to find the aptness of the samples for optical uses. The antifungal ability of Ni-CeO 2 NPs was evaluated against the fungi candida albicans and candida krusein with the agar well-diffusion process. The fungicidal activity of the 3 mol% Ni doped CeO 2 nanoparticles has shown a maximum zone of inhibition. The experimental findings illustrate the utility of Ni-CeO 2 NPs for optical and antifungal applications.

Abstract:In this study, cerium oxide nanorods (CeO2-NRs) were synthesized by using the phytochemicals present in the Dalbergia sissoo extract. The physiochemical characteristics of the as-prepared CeO2-NRs were investigated by using ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-VIS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD). The SEM and UV-VIS analyses revealed that the acquired nanomaterials possessed a rod-like morphology while the XRD results further confirmed that the synthesized NRs exhibited a cubic crystal lattice system. The antioxidant capacity of the synthesized CeO2-NRs was investigated by using several in vitro biochemical assays. It was observed that the synthesized NRs exhibited better antioxidant potential in comparison to the industrial antioxidant of the butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) in 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay. The biochemical assays, including lipid peroxidation (LPO), total antioxidant capacity (TAC), and catalase activity (CAT), were also performed in the human lymphocytes incubated with the CeO2-NRs to investigate the impact of the NRs on these oxidative biomarkers. Enhanced reductive capabilities were observed in all the assays, revealing that the NRs possess excellent antioxidant properties. Moreover, the cytotoxic potential of the CeO2-NRs was also investigated with the MTT assay. The CeO2-NRs were found to effectively kill off the cancerous cells (MCF-7 human breast cancer cell line), further indicating that the synthesized NRs exhibit anticancer potential as well. One of the major applications studied for the prepared CeO2-NRs was performing the statistical optimization of the photocatalytic degradation reaction of the methyl orange (MO) dye. The reaction was optimized by using the technique of response surface methodology (RSM). This advanced approach facilitates the development of the predictive model on the basis of central composite design (CCD) for this degradation reaction. The maximum degradation of 99.31% was achieved at the experimental optimized conditions, which corresponded rather well with the predicted percentage degradation values of 99.58%. These results indicate that the developed predictive model can effectively explain the performed experimental reaction. To conclude, the CeO2-NRs exhibited excellent results for multiple applications.

Abstract:Nano, Ahead of Print. This study intended to synthesize Nickel-doped Cerium oxide (Ni-CeO2 NPs) nanoparticles using Pedalium Murex leaf extract. X-ray diffraction (XRD) was used to investigate the structure of the Ni-CeO2 NPs. The XRD measurements showed that the Ni-CeO2 NPs crystallized into the face-centered cubic system. The Ni(1%)-CeO2 and Ni(3%)-CeO2 NP's crystallite sizes were between 47[math]nm and 59[math]nm. FTIR and Raman spectral studies were conducted to investigate the sample's atomic vibrations and chemical bonding. Energy-dispersive X-ray study and field-emission scanning electron microscopy were performed to examine the surface texture and chemical assembly of the Ni-CeO2 NPs. UV–Vis DRS spectrum study was performed to ascertain the reflectance characteristics and bandgap of Ni-CeO2 NPs. The Ni(1%)-CeO2 and Ni(3%)-CeO2 NPs were found to have bandgaps of 2.73[math]eV and 2.82[math]eV, respectively. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry were employed to explore the electrochemical nature of Ni-CeO2 NPs and their capacitive properties at various scanning rates. Using the agar well-diffusion technique, the antifungal activities of Ni-CeO2 NPs were assessed. The experimental findings illustrate the utility of Ni-CeO2 NPs for supercapacitor electrode material and healthcare applications.

Abstract:The present paper presents a green method for the synthesis of pure and 1, 3, and 5% Co doped NiO nanoparticles (Co-NiO-NP) by using the aqueous extract of Salvadora persica. The synthesized nanoparticles were confirmed through PXRD, UV–Vis, FESEM, EDX, and Raman analyses. The results of PXRD, EDX, and UV–Vis affirmed the existence of well doped cobalt within the nickel oxide structure, which caused an increase in its particle size. According to PXRD finding, NiO have a face-centered cubic (FCC) structure. FESEM images showed pseudo-cubic form for nickel oxide nanoparticles which this morphology changes with doped process. Raman outcome were assigned to the longitudinal optical (LO) phonon mode of NiO. UV–Vis outcomes presented a blue shift in the adsorption peak of NiONP after the doping of cobalt ions into nickel oxide structure. According to the performed MTT test on the toxicity effect of synthesized nanoparticles on human breast cancer (MCF-7) and human umbilical vein endothelial (HUVEC) cells, cobalt doped nanoparticles displayed a higher cytotoxic activity than pure nanoparticles. Therefore, we can approve the applicability of our synthesized nanoparticles in biological implementations and cancer treatment.

Abstract:This study presents an innovative and environmentally friendly approach for the synthesis of cerium oxide nanoparticles (CeO2 NPs), characterized using advanced techniques such as FTIR, XRD, SEM, TEM and XPS. Notable spectral peaks at 457 cm −1 and 1380 cm −1 confirm the successful formation of CeO2 NPs, with an average size of 5.72 nm and a spherical morphology revealed through XRD and SEM analysis. We explored the multifaceted applications of these synthesized NPs, particularly their impressive electrical properties and catalytic capabilities. The CeO2 NPs demonstrated a remarkable role in synthesizing sulfides from thiols and bromoesters, which were further oxidized to sulfoxides with excellent yields using m -chloroperbenzoic acid ( m -CPBA). Electrical property assessments revealed that the CeO2 NPs exhibit insulating behavior at lower frequencies while transitioning to semiconducting characteristics at higher frequencies. Furthermore, we evaluated the cytotoxicity of the CeO2 NPs on MCF-7 human breast cancer cells, alongside tests for biocompatibility through blood hemolysis. The NPs displayed a significant DPPH radical scavenging activity with an effective concentration of 242 μg/mL, and a safe hemolytic activity at levels below 2.5 mg/mL, indicating their potential as promising candidates in biomedical applications.

Abstract:Bio-synthesis of cerium (IV) oxide nanoparticles (CeO2-NPs) has been performed through a sol-gel method that involved the utilization of Rheum Turkestanicum plant extract as the stabilizing agent. The obtained nanoparticles have been identified throughout FT-IR, UV-Vis, XRD, FESEM/EDX/PSA, and TGA/DTA techniques. The XRD pattern has been presented the cubic fluorite structure of CeO2-NPs, which had indicated the particle size about 30 nm. The UV-Vis spectrum of nanoparticles has presented a strong adsorption band. The FESEM/PSA images have exhibited the spherical shape of CeO2-NPs. Furthermore, the photocatalytic activity of CeO2-NPs has been investigated by performing the decolorization of MB, RhB, and MO dyes under UVA light, which are associated with sewage water pollutants. The results of MTT assay has reported that the cytotoxicity effect of CeO2-NPs on PC12 cell lines had not been dependent on concentration, as well as an indication of the lack of any significant toxicity by the nanoparticles on cancer cells.

Abstract:In the present scenario, the synthesis and characterization of zinc oxide (ZnO) and cerium oxide (CeO2) nanoparticles (NPs) through biological routes using green reducing agents are quite interesting to explore various biomedical and pharmaceutical applications, particularly for the treatment of cancer. This study was focused on the phytosynthesis of ZnO and CeO2 NPs using the leaf extract of Rubia cordifolia L. The active principles present in the plant extract were liable for rapid reduction of Zn and Ce ions to metallic nanocrystals. ZnO and CeO2 NPs were characterized by UV-visible spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDAX), and photoluminescence (PL) techniques. ZnO and CeO2 NPs were partially agglomerated with a net-like structure. Biomedical activities of ZnO and CeO2 NPs were tested against MG-63 human osteosarcoma cells using MTT and reactive oxygen species (ROS) quantification assays. In treated cells, loss of cell membrane integrity, oxidative stress, and apoptosis was observed and it is well correlated with cellular damage immediately after induction. Overall, this study shed light on the anti-cancer potential of ZnO and CeO2 NPs on MG-63 human osteosarcoma cells through differential ROS production pathways, describing the potential role of greener synthesis.

Abstract:CeO2 nanoparticles (nanoceria) were proposed as an alternative physical sunscreen agent with antioxidant properties and comparable UV absorption performance. Green synthesis of nanoceria with Ag and Ni dopants resulted in doped nanoceria with lower catalytic activity and biologically-safe characteristics. The doped nanoceria was characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Rancimat Instrument, and UV-Vis Spectrophotometer for SPF (Sun Protection Factor) determination. XRD and TEM analysis showed that nanoceria had been successfully formed in nanoscale-sized with a change in crystallite size due to the crystal defect phenomenon caused by dopant addition. While the Rancimat test and band gap energy analysis were conducted to evaluate the oxidative stability and reactive oxygen species formation, it was confirmed that dopant addition could decrease catalytic activity of material, resulting in Ni-doped Ce with a longer incubation time (11.81 h) than Ag-doped Ce (10.58 h) and non-doped Ce (10.30 h). In-vitro SPF value was measured using the thin layer technique of sunscreen prototype with Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO)-based emulsion, which yielded 10.862 and 5.728 SPF values for 10% Ag-doped Ce and 10% Ni-doped Ce, respectively. The dopant addition of nanoceria could reduce catalytic activity and give a decent in vitro UV-shielding performance test; thus, Ag and Ni-doped nanoceria could be seen as promising candidates for alternative physical sunscreen agents.

Abstract:In the present stud, NiO–NPs have been synthesized via the sol–gel method and using okra plant extract as a reducing and limiting agent. The optical, photocatalytic, structural and magnetic properties of the NiO–NPs have been investigated via the usage of FTIR, UV–Vis, XRD, FESEM, EDX, VSM, and TGA/DTA. The results of the achieved XRD and FT-IR analyses have confirmed the formation of pure and crystalline NiO–NPs. The thermal behavior of the composition has been studied by the utilization of TGA/DTA results. Moreover, the synthesized NiO–NPs have illustrated a super-paramagnetic behavior throughout the performance of magnetic studies by the means of VSM procedure. Cell cytotoxicity investigation has been carried put on multiple tumor cells by the MTT method, while the antimicrobial studies have displayed that NiO–NPs activity for gram-positive bacteria species seems to be more apparent than the gram-negative bacteria species. Photocatalytic degradation researches have confirmed the consistency of its effects with complete degradation of MB in pH = 11, under optimal conditions. Therefore, we propose a green protocol for the combination of effective biological agents with high purity and crystallinity along with reduced particle size, which stands as beneficial factors to be employed in a variety of applications and environments.

Abstract:Antioxidant nanoparticles have recently gained tremendous attention for their enormous potential in biomedicine. However, discrepant reports of either medical benefits or toxicity, and lack of reproducibility of many studies, generate uncertainties delaying their effective implementation. Herein, the case of cerium oxide is considered, a well-known catalyst in the petrochemistry industry and one of the first antioxidant nanoparticles proposed for medicine. Like other nanoparticles, it is now described as a promising therapeutic alternative, now as threatening to health. Sources of these discrepancies and how this analysis helps to overcome contradictions found for other nanoparticles are summarized and discussed. For the context of this analysis, what has been reported in the liver is reviewed, where many diseases are related to oxidative stress. Since well-dispersed nanoparticles passively accumulate in liver, it represents a major testing field for the study of new nanomedicines and their clinical translation. Even more, many contradictory works have reported in liver either cerium-oxide-associated toxicity or protection against oxidative stress and inflammation. Based on this, finally, the intention is to propose solutions to design improved nanoparticles that will work more precisely in medicine and safely in society.

Abstract:Introduction: Green synthesis offers a fast, simple, and economical method for producing metallic nanoparticles.The basis of this method is to obtain nanoparticles using natural materials, such as plants, fungi, and bacteria, instead of harmful and expensive chemical-reducing agents. In this study, CeO2NPs were produced using Alhagi maurorum extract, and their anticancer and antibacterial activities were evaluated. Method: Alhagi maurorum extract was prepared according to a previously described protocol, and CeO2NPs were synthesized from the salt of this extract. The resulting nanoparticles were characterized using Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. The antibacterial and cytotoxic effects of the nanoparticles were measured by MIC, MBC, and MTT assays, respectively. The results were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) using Prism software. Results: The MTT assay on breast cancer cell lines showed that the cytotoxic effect of CeO2NPs on cell lines was concentration-dependent. In addition, this nanoparticle was more effective against Gram-positive bacteria. Conclusion: These nanoparticles can be used as cancer drug delivery systems with specific targeting at low concentrations in addition to anticancer treatments. It can also have biological and medicinal applications, such as natural food preservation and wound dressing.

Abstract:AbstractCeria nanoparticles (nanoceria) are well known as a superoxide scavenger. However, inherent superoxide‐scavenging ability has only been found in the nanoceria with sizes of less than 5 nm and with very limited shape diversity. Reported herein is a strategy to significantly improve the superoxide‐scavenging activity of nanoceria sized at greater than 5 nm. The nanoceria with sizes of greater than 5 nm, with different shapes, and with a negligible Ce3+/Ce4+ ratio can acquire remarkable superoxide‐scavenging abilities through electron transfer. This method will make it possible to develop nanoceria‐based superoxide‐scavengers with long‐acting activity and tailorable characteristics.

Abstract:In the current work, CeO2‐NPs were produced via a green chemistry process via Linum usitatissimum seeds extract as the stabilizing agent. The CeO2‐NPs were characterized by the results of analytical techniques such as TGA/DTA, FTIR, UV–vis, XPS, XRD, and FESEM/PSA/EDX. The results of the MTT test on Huh‐7 liver cancer cell lines displayed the lack of any significant cytotoxicity even at concentrations up to 1000 μg/mL. Therefore, the obtained synthesized CeO2‐NPs through this green method could be suggested as a prospective agent for medical applications due to its non‐toxic effects. In the current work, CeO2‐NPs were produced via a green chemistry process via Linum usitatissimum seeds extract as the stabilizing agent. The CeO2‐NPs were characterized by the results of analytical techniques such as TGA/DTA, FTIR, UV–vis, XPS, XRD, and FESEM/PSA/EDX. The outcomes of the XRD pattern affirmed the crystalline structure of this product with the suggested size of about 20 nm, while the FESEM/PSA pictures presented spherical morphology. Additionally, the XPS analysis of CeO2‐NPs affirmed the presence of a Ce+3 oxidation state in the sample, as well as Ce+4 as the major valence of cerium oxide. Abstract:We report the simple Co-precipitation method for the synthesis of Cerium oxide (CeO2) nanoparticles (NPs) in an ambient temperature. We have taken the Cerium (III) nitrate hexahydrate (Ce(NO3)3.6H2O) and Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) as the precursors. The obtained NPs were analyzed using the UV-Vis spectrophotometer, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The obtained results signify that UV-Vis spectrum exhibited a well-defined absorption peak at 274 nm and the estimated energy gap (Eg) is 4.05 eV. The FT-IR analysis provides the supporting evidence for the presence of bonding of O-H, nitrates, alcohols and O-Ce-O vibrations. The XRD result reveals that the synthesized CeO2 NPs was crystallite with cubic phase structure and the estimated average crystallite size of CeO2 NPs using Scherer’s and W-H method was significantly different due to their assumptions. Further, it is purposed to study their photocatalytic biological activities.

Abstract:This article has reviewed about one of the most potential metal oxide nanoparticles, Cerium oxide nanoparticles (CeO2NPs) and various synthesis methods including combustion, microwave, solvothermal, sol-gel, simple co-precipitation method, spray pyrolysis, hydrothermal synthesis, microemulsion method, solvo thermal method and Green synthesis: plant mediated (Olea Europaea, Prosopis juliflora, Azadirachta indica, Petroselinum crispum, Aloe Barbadensis, Hibiscus sabdariffa), Nutrient mediated (Honey), Fungus mediated (Aspergillus niger, Humicola sp) and Biopolymer mediated (starch). CeO2NPs catalytic properties such as superoxide dismutase mimetic (SOD) and catalase mimetic activities. Biomedical applications of CeO2NPs such as anticancer, antiinflammatory, antioxidative, antimicrobial, antidiabetic and for the treatment of various neurodegenerative diseases are also reported.

Abstract:Ceria nanoparticles (CeO 2 NPs) have become popular materials in biomedical and industrial fields due to their potential applications in anti-oxidation, cancer therapy, photocatalytic degradation of pollutants, sensors, etc. Many methods, including gas phase, solid phase, liquid phase, and the newly proposed green synthesis method, have been reported for the synthesis of CeO 2 NPs. Due to the wide application of CeO 2 NPs, concerns about their adverse impacts on human health have been raised. This review covers recent studies on the biomedical applications of CeO 2 NPs, including their use in the treatment of various diseases (e.g., Alzheimer's disease, ischemic stroke, retinal damage, chronic inflammation, and cancer). CeO 2 NP toxicity is discussed in terms of the different systems of the human body (e.g., cytotoxicity, genotoxicity, respiratory toxicity, neurotoxicity, and hepatotoxicity). This comprehensive review covers both fundamental discoveries and exploratory progress in CeO 2 NP research that may lead to practical developments in the future.

Abstract:Co-precipitation, a rapid and effective technique, was used to produce Ce- and W-doped NiO nanoparticles at pH values of 10 and 12. The FT-IR, UV-visible spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction techniques were used to examine the structural and optical characteristics. The NiO nanoparticles' distinct XRD pattern revealed their monoclinic shape and crystalline origin. According to the Debye-Scherrer formula, the crystallite size of NiO nanoparticles decreased to 5.94 nm and 7.12 nm, respectively, when 5% Ce and 5% W were added, from 20.41 nm for undoped. Using UV-VIS absorption spectra, the optical band gap and the wavelength of maximum absorption were found. It was found that both of these parameters were influenced by the pH level and the concentration of Ce and W metal dopants. It can be concluded that doping has a higher impact on Cerium compared to Tungsten and at pH 10 compared to pH 12. This work presents a comprehensive investigation of the effects of pH and dopant concentration on the properties of Ce and W-doped NiO nanoparticles.

Abstract:The present work aims to synthesize and characterize cerium oxide nanoparticles (CeO 2 -NPs) for application in the photodegradation of methylene blue – MB and methyl orange -MO. CeO 2 -NPs were prepared by biosynthesis method using Matricaria recutita extract. Minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) was used to evaluate the antimicrobial activity against E. coli , S. aureus and K. pneumoniae . Microcrustacean Artemia salina was used for the ecotoxicity test. Central Composite Rotational Design (CCRD 2 2 and 2 3 ) was used to determine the ideal condition for the biosynthesis process and photocatalytic tests, respectively. CCRD 2 2 indicated the variables of extract concentration and time were significant 6 mg L −1 and 120 min, respectively with the higher yield of nanoparticles (15.71%), and CeO 2 -NPs crystallite diameter of 16.36 nm. CCRD 2 3 determined the ideal condition to [MB.MO] = 60 mg L −1 , [CeO 2 -NPs] = 1 g L −1 and pH = 4, with 93% for the dyes photodegradation, indicating a pseudo-first order model (k = 0.0139 min −1 ). CeO 2 -NPs showed photocatalytic stability after 6 cycles. Ecotoxicity of CeO 2 -NPs did not show mortality for A. salina in the 10–2.5 mg mL −1 . Therefore, it was possible to synthesize metallic nanoparticles of cerium oxide, with great potential for application as a nanophotocatalyst.
