Abstract:As a carbon-free fuel, ammonia is an attractive alternative to fossil fuels. The purpose of this paper is to propose an integrated system to produce green ammonia using geothermal energy. From the perspectives of thermodynamics, thermoeconomics, and environmental impact, this study supports a comprehensive evaluation and multicriteria assessment of an environmentally friendly polygeneration plant. The proposed system consists of a PEM electrolyzer unit, an organic Rankine cycle power plant, an air separation system, and the valuable commodities are hydrogen, ammonia, oxygen, electricity, and hot and cold water. A sensitivity analysis examines the effects of different parameters on the overall system performance. As a result of the simulations produced 2.085 kg/s of ammonia, 2.44 kg/s of cold water, 62568 kW of power, 168.176 kg/s of hot water, and 3.66 kg/s of oxygen. The overall payback period is 3 years, with an internal rate of return of 10 %. The attained results, the energy and exergy efficiencies of the plant as well as total unit costs of products, Cost of ammonia, LCOE, and TAC are as being 50 %, 10.71 %, 7.57 /kg, 74.57 /yr respectively. A comprehensive analysis of the key findings is also presented and discussed.
