Abstract:A new Cd-MOF with 2D topology, [Cd(1,4-ndc)(DMA)] (1,4-H2ndc = 1,4-naphthalenedicarboxylic, DMA = N,N'-Dimethylacetamide), was successfully fabricated under a solvothemal condition and further characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, infrared spectrometry (IR), powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Cd-MOF can serve as a luminescent sensor for the detection of nitro explosives and organophosphorus pesticides (OPs), with the limit of detection (LOD) of 0.1 μM for nitrobenzene and 3 nM for parathion-methyl. Meanwhile, Cd-MOF can still keep stable after detecting nitro explosives and OPs for ten cycles. On the whole, Cd-MOF shows good stability, high selectivity and superior reproducibility as a multifunctional luminescent sensor.

Abstract:Developing efficient and sensitive MOF-based luminescence sensors for bioactive molecule detection is of great significance and remains a challenge. Benefiting from favorable chemical and thermal stability, as well as excellent luminescence performance, a porous Zn(II)Ho(III) heterometallic–organic framework (ZnHoMOF) was selected here as a bifunctional luminescence sensor for the early diagnosis of a toluene exposure biomarker of hippuric acid (HA) through "turn-on" luminescence enhancing response and the daily monitoring of NFT/NFZ antibiotics through "turn-off" quenching effects in aqueous media with high sensitivity, acceptable selectivity, good anti-interference, exceptional recyclability performance, and low detection limits (LODs) of 0.7 ppm for HA, 0.04 ppm for NFT, and 0.05 ppm for NFZ. Moreover, the developed sensor was employed to quantify HA in diluted urine samples and NFT/NFZ in natural river water with satisfactory results. In addition, the sensing mechanisms of ZnHoMOF as a dual-response chemosensor in efficient detection of HA and NFT/NFZ antibiotics were conducted from the view of photo-induced electron transfer (PET), as well as inner filter effects (IFEs), with the help of time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) and spectral overlap experiments.

Abstract:A new three-dimensional luminescence Zn-MOF sensor with the molecular formula [Zn-4(mu(3)-OH)(2)(ptptc)(1.5) (DMA)(H2O)(2)]center dot 2DMA (complex 1) for the selective sensing of 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine (2,4-DNPH), picric acid (PA), La3+ and Ca2+ has been synthesized from terphenyl-3,3', 5,5'-tetracarboxylic acid (H(4)ptptc) and zinc nitrate under solvothermal conditions. XRD analysis reveals that complex 1 crystallizes in monoclinic system P2(1)/n space group and consists of a three-dimensional network with one-dimensional channels, which are expected to facilitate the diffusion, concentration and detection processes. Real-time fluorescence quenching responses and good reversibility were observed in the fluorescence titration experiments with nano-molar scale detection limits for 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine (2,4-DNPH, 100 nM) and picric acid (PA, 500 nM). Noticeable emission band shift from 365 nm to 420 nm was observed when treated complex 1 with La3+ and a new emission band centered at 475 nm appeared when treated complex 1 with Ca2+ in the metal ions sensing experiments. In virtue of its high selectively, good sensitively and recyclability complex 1 could be a promising fluorescent sensor for explosives and metal ions. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
A multifunctional sensor for detecting tetracycline, 4-nitrophenol, and pesticides

Abstract:In recent years, due to the abuse of antibiotics, nitro explosives and pesticides, which have caused great harm to the environment and human health, social concerns have prompted researchers to develop more sensitive detection platforms for these pollutants. In this paper, a novel two-dimensional Zn (II) coordination polymer, [Zn(L)0.5(1,2-bimb)]·DMF (1), [H4L=[1,1':4',1''-terphenyl]-2, 2'',4, 4'' -tetracarboxylic acid, 1,2-bimb = 1,2-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene] was synthesized using a hydro-solvothermal method. Among commonly used organic solvents, 1 exhibits significant stability. Fast and efficient fluorescence response can be achieved for tetracycline (TET), 4-nitrophenol (4-NP), fluazinam (FLU), and abamectin benzoate (AMB) with low detection limits. A binary intelligent logic gate device with FLU and AMB as chemical input signals is successfully constructed, which provides a new idea for biochemical detection. In addition, a portable visual test paper has been prepared, which has high sensitivity, good selectivity, and simple operation. It can be used for rapid detection of pollutants in daily life and has broad application prospects. Finally, a detailed discussion was conducted on the fluorescence sensing mechanism of 1 for detecting TET, 4-NP, AMB and FLU.
Near-infrared-light mediated ratiometric luminescent sensor for multimode visualized assays of explosives

Abstract:The development of a portable and easy-to-use device for the detection of explosives with high sensitivity and selectivity is in high demand for homeland security and public safety. In this study, we demonstrate miniaturized devices depending on the upconversion ratiometric luminescent probe for point-of-care (POC) assay of explosives with the naked-eye. When the PEI-coated upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) selectively bonded to 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) explosives by the formation of Meisenheimer complex, the formed of UCNP-Meisenheimer complexes show turned visible multicolor upconversion luminescence (UCL) on account of TNT-modulating Förster resonance energy transfer process under near-infrared excitation. With UCL emission at 808 nm as internal standard and ratiometric UCL at 477 nm to that at 808 nm (I477/I808) as output signal, the probe can simultaneously meet the accuracy for TNT explosives quantitative analysis. In addition, this easy-to-use visual technique provides a powerful tool for convenient POC assay of rapid explosives identification.

Abstract:The detection of antibiotics and pesticides are of great significance since their residues threaten the health of human beings by accumulation. However, most traditional solid chemical sensors are suffer from the limitations of low sensitivity and economic practicability because of the aggregating nature and unstable of solid sensors. Herein, a new luminescent sensor 1@PMMA (1, [(ZnL)·H2O]n (H2L = 5-(4-(pyridin-4-yl)benzamido)benzene-1,3-dioic acid); PMMA = poly(methyl methacrylate)) was successfully prepared. Notably, the polymer matrix provided the chemical protection for MOF particles. The as fabricated 1@PMMA was stable in milk, honey and egg as well as exhibited strong blue emission under ultraviolet light irradiation, which can act as luminescent probe for detecting antibiotics and pesticides. More interestingly, 1@PMMA exhibited visual, real-time and recyclable detection of antibiotics ornidazole (ODZ) and pesticides 2,6-dichloro-4-nitrobenzenamine (DCN) in real food samples. This work shows that the luminescent MOF-based mixed matrix membranes could be applied as good candidates for sensing analytes in practical application.
Dual-Emission Zr-MOF-Based Composite Material as a Fluorescence Turn-On Sensor for the Ultrasensitive Detection of Al 3+

Abstract:In this work, a novel zirconium-based metal-organic framework (MOF) composite material, UiO-(OH)2@RhB, has been solvothermally prepared with zirconyl chloride octahydrate, 2,5-dihydroxyterephthalic acid, and rhodamine B (RhB) for ratiometric fluorescence sensing of Al3+ ions in an aqueous medium. The luminescence measurement results showed that, at the single excitation wavelength of 420 nm, the fluorescence intensity of the ligand at 500 nm increased significantly in the case of Al3+, while that of RhB at 583 nm changed slightly, together with an apparent color change. Under optimal conditions, UiO-(OH)2@RhB exhibited an extraordinary sensitivity (10 nM), good selectivity, and a fast response (2 min) for Al3+. As far as we know, the limit of detection is superior to that of the current reported MOF-based Al3+ fluorescence sensors. The response mechanism suggested that -OH could capture Al3+ in water through coordination and high electrostatic affinity and achieved turn-on ratiometric fluorescence through the excited-state intramolecular proton transfer process and stable fluorescence of RhB. In addition, this sensor was also applied to actual food samples (grain beans), with the recoveries ranging from 89.08% to 113.61%. Such a turn-on ratiometric fluorescence sensor will provide a constructive strategy for the ultrasensitive detection of Al3+ in practical applications.

Abstract:A novel complex of [Zn(L)(HEA)] n ( 1 ) has been successfully synthesized by hydrothermal method based on the double ligands of H 2 HEA (H 2 HEA = 1,2-Phenylenediacetic acid) and L (L = 1,1′-((2,4,6-trimethyl-1,3-phenylene)bis(methylene))bis(1H-1,2,4-triazole)). The single crystal structure of the complex was analyzed by X-ray single crystal diffraction, indicating that complex 1 was stacked into a 3D crystal structure through intermolecular π···π and C-H···π weak interaction. The complex was characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, PXRD and TGA. Additionally, fluorescence experiments showed that complex 1 could be used as a fluorescent probe for detecting Fe(III), Cr(VI), and Metronidazole (MDZ), Ornidazole (ODZ), Dimetridazole (DTZ) in aqueous solutions. Detection limits were obtained for ions (3.2×10 −7 M for Cr 2 O 7 2− , 5.4×10 −7 M for CrO 4 2− and 3.6 × 10 −7 M for Fe 3+ ) and nitroimidazole antibiotics (1.3×10 −7 M for MDZ, 9.7×10 −8 M for ODZ and 4.4×10 −8 M for DTZ). The possible fluorescence quenching mechanism has been studied in the paper.

Abstract:To achieve the ultrastable LMOFs with predominant luminescent sensing performances, the aromatic π-electron mixed ligands strategy was introduced, and the ternary LMOF of {[Zn2(HDDB)(bib)1.5]·3H2O}n (1), was fabricated based on 3,5-di(2',4'-dicarboxylphenyl)benozoic acid (H5DDB) and the N-donor of meta-bis(imidazol-1-yl)benzene (bib) under mixed solvothermal condition. LMOF 1 features the first reported 3D 3,4,4-c {62.83.10}{62.8}2{63.82.10}2 framework with 21.2 % porosity as well as high thermal and chemical stability. Further luminescent sensing showed that LMOF 1 as a bifunctional chemosensor possessing predominant detectability for sensitive detect the hexavalent chromates and nitroimidazoles/nitrofurans antibiotics in water through strong luminescent quenching effects, with excellent reusability as well as trace detection limits. Moreover, luminescent quenching mechanisms were further investigated from electron transfer and energy transfer viewpoints.

Abstract:Coordination polymers (CPs) are organo-inorganic porous materials consisting of metal ions or clusters and organic linkers. These compounds have attracted attention for use in the fluorescence detection of pollutants. Here, two Zn-based mixed-ligand-bearing CPs, [Zn2(DIN)2(HBTC2−)2] (CP-1) and [Zn(DIN)(HBTC2−)]·ACN·H2O (CP-2) (DIN = 1,4-di(imidazole-1-yl)naphthalene, H3BTC = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid, and ACN = acetonitrile), were synthesized under solvothermal conditions. CP-1 and CP-2 were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, elemental analysis, and powder X-ray diffraction analysis. Solid-state fluorescence analysis revealed an emission peak at 350 nm upon excitation at 225 and 290 nm. Fluorescence sensing tests showed that CP-1 was highly efficient, sensitive, and selective for detecting Cr2O72− at 225 and 290 nm, whereas I− was only detected well at an excitation of 225 nm. CP-1 detected pesticides differently at excitation wavelengths of 225 and 290 nm; the highest quenching rates were for nitenpyram at 225 nm and imidacloprid at 290 nm. The quenching process may occur via the inner filter effect and fluorescence resonance energy transfer.

Abstract:Functional Materials Letters, Ahead of Print. A novel dual-emission ratio luminescent probe (Eu(DPA)3@UIO-66-NH2) for the detection of Cu[math] in an aqueous solution was successfully prepared by linking the Zr-MOFs material UIO-66-NH2 with the lanthanide complex Na3[Eu(DPA)3] through the interaction between functional groups. The synthesized Eu(DPA)3@UIO-66-NH2 inherits the advantages of MOFs and lanthanide complexes, and it not only has excellent luminescence performance but also shows good dispersion and structural stability in aqueous solution. The characteristics of dual-emission light can achieve specific ratiometric luminescence detection of Cu[math]. In addition, the probe exhibited high sensitivity for the detection of Cu[math] with a detection limit as low as 0.89 [math]M. It can provide an efficient and stable platform for the convenient and rapid detection of Cu[math] in aqueous solutions and has the potential for development applications.

Abstract:One water stable three-dimensional coordination polymer {[Zn(TTPA)]·1.5DMA}n (Zn-1) was successfully synthesized via solvo-thermal reaction of a bifunctional ligand 2,5-bis-(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)-terephthalic acid (H2TTPA) and Zn(NO3)2. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses proclaimed that Zn-1 is a 3D framework with one-dimensional channels long c direction. Further topological studies revealed that polymer Zn-1 characterized as a (4,4)-connected binodal net with Schläfli symbol as {42.84}. In addition, the luminescent researches indicate that complex Zn-1 exhibits not only excellent recognition abilities of Fe3+, Cr2O7 2− and antibiotics (NFT, NFZ and DTZ) via luminescence quenching mechanism, but also efficient “turn-on” fluorescence sensing property of pyridine. Zn-1 is the first MOF material with multi-sensing performances of Fe3+, Cr2O7 2−, antibiotics and pyridine in aqueous media.

Abstract:A novel two-dimensional (2D) cadmium-based metal-organic framework [Cd-2(HDDB)(bimpy)(NMP)(H2O)]center dot 3H(2)O (1) (H5DDB = 3,5-di(2',4'-dicarboxylphenyl)benozoic acid and bimpy = 3,5-bis(1-imidazolyl)pyridine) has been constructed by solvothermal method, which exhibits good water stability, pH stability and excellent photoluminescence properties. Complex 1 reveals a fluorescence turn-off behaviour towards nitrofuran/nitroimidazole antibiotics and DCN pesticide due to PET (photoinduced electron transfer) and FRET (fluorescence resonance energy transfer). Interestingly, complex 1 can be designed as an "on-off-on" fluorescence probe to detect Fe3+ ion and ascorbic acid (AA). The fluorescence of complex 1 can be quenched by Fe3+ ion to form a Fe3+@1 hybrid system, which can be ascribed to the FRET process and the week interaction between Fe3+ and 1. Then, after gradually adding AA into Fe3+ @1 system, the fluorescence intensity of Fe3+@1 fluorescence-silent system was recovered (turn on). The possible fluorescence turn-on mechanism is the elimination of FRET process between Fe3+ and complex 1. This work represents the first example of recognition of nitrofuran/nitroimidazole antibiotics, DCN pesticide, Fe3+ ion and AA based on a MOF material in aqueous solution. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V. Abstract:A novel neodymium-based metal-organic framework (Nd-MOF) {[Nd2(Hpdc)3(H2O)6]·3H2O}n (H3pdc = 1H-pyrazole-3,5-dicarboxylic acid) was synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method and structurally characterized. By dropped onto glassy carbon electrodes (GCE), the prepared Nd-MOF was applied to construct an efficient electrochemical sensor for the rapid and reliable electrochemical detection of Rhodamine B (RhB). This proposed Nd-MOF/GCE sensor exhibited strong accumulation ability and high electrocatalytic activity for RhB. Electrochemical oxidation signal of RhB at the Nd-MOF/GCE was greatly enhanced as compared to that at the bare GCE. The effective factors such as pH of buffer solution, amount of Nd-MOF suspension and accumulation time were optimized for the quantitative detection of RhB. Under optimum conditions, the fabricated sensor showed two wide linear ranges of 0.08–2.0 and 2.0–40 μM with a low detection limit of 3.6 nM, which was ascribed to the advantages of Nd-MOF such as large specific surface area, multiple active sites, strong accumulation ability. Moreover, the developed Nd-MOF/GCE sensor displayed good selectivity and accuracy towards RhB detection in the actual samples. Thus, this simple and efficient approach for RhB detection has good prospective for application in environmental monitoring.

Abstract:A novel 3D luminescent coordination polymer (LCP) [Zn4(3-dpyb)2(odpa)2(H2O)3]·4H2O (1) (3-dpyb = N,N′-bis (3-pyridinecarboxamide)-1,4-butane, H4 odpa = 4, 4′-oxidiphthalic acid) was successfully synthesized under solvothermal conditions. LCP 1 displays remarkable fluorescent behavior and stability in a wide range of pH values and different pure organic solvents. More importantly, LCP 1 can become an outstanding candidate in the selective sensing of Fe3+, Bi3+, Cr2O72–, MnO4–, nitrobenzene (NB), acetaldehyde (AH), and acetylacetone (Hacac) under a lower detection limit. The change process of fluorescent intensity of these seven analytes in a diverse pH range indicates that LCP 1 can be an excellent luminescent sensor in multiple acid/base solutions. Water-Stable Ln-MOF as a multi-emitting luminescent sensor for the detection of metal ions and pharmaceuticals

Abstract:The development of innovative multi-emission sensors for the rapid and accurate detection of contaminants is both vital and challenging. In this study, utilizing two rigid ligands (H3ICA and H4BTEC), a series of water-stable bimetallic organic frameworks (EuTb-MOFs) were synthesized. Luminescent investigations have revealed that EuTb-MOF-1 exhibits prominent multiple emission peaks, attributed to the distinctive fluorescence characteristics of Eu(III) and Tb(III) ions. Therefore, EuTb-MOF-1 efficiently recognized various metal ions and pharmaceutical compounds through 2D decoded maps. Fe3+ and Pb2+ exhibited significant quenching effects on the luminescence of EuTb-MOF-1, which were attributed to the internal filtering effect and the interaction between Lewis basic sites within EuTb-MOF-1 and Pb2+ ions, respectively. Furthermore, EuTb-MOF-1 demonstrated high sensitivity to sulfonamide antibiotics, with detection limits of 0.037 μM for SMZ and 0.041 μM for SDZ, respectively. In addition, EuTb-MOF-1 was immobilized to prepare MOF-based test strips, enabling direct visual detection of sulfonamides as a portable sensor. With excellent water stability, multi-responsive recognition capabilities, and high sensitivity to specific analytes, EuTb-MOF-1 is a promising candidate for environmental contaminant detection in aquatic systems.
