Abstract:An important intermediate of D-A-D polyfluorene derivative,2,7-bis(4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-1,3,2-dioxaboralan-2-yl)-9,9-dioctylfluorene,was synthesized from Suzuki coupling polymerization.One-and two-dimensional NMR techniques(i.e.,1H NMR,13C NMR,DEPT,1H-1H COSY,HMQC and HMBC) were used to assign the proton and carbon chemical shifts and to elucidate the structure of the compound.

Abstract:In the presence of Na2CO3, a variety of fluoroalkylated quinolones were efficiently synthesized from isatins and fluoroalk-2-ynoates in good to excellent yields at room temperature. Abstract:In the presence of KI and (diacetoxyiodo)benzene (PIDA), primary amines bearing an alpha-hydrogen can be efficiently converted to fluoroalkylated imidazoles by reacting with fluoroalkylated alkynes and sodium azide via a cascade Michael addition/azidation/cycloamination process. KI plays a crucial role in this reaction by generating iodine(I) species to promote the cyclization. Substrate scope was explored, and the application of this protocol was demonstrated. Additionally, a plausible reaction mechanism was proposed.

Abstract:A novel heterogeneous strong acid catalyst was synthesized through the copolymerization of p -toluenesulfonic acid and paraformaldehyde and utilized for the synthesis of fructone. The results showed that the catalyst was very efficient for the reaction with the yield over 95%. The advantages of extremely high density of acidity, high thermal and chemical stability, low cost for the simple synthetic procedure, and reusability made the catalyst one of the best choices for the reaction.

Abstract:An efficient synthesis of ECH, epoxyquinols A and B, and two bioactive analogs EqM and RKTS-33 has been completed starting from (-)-shikimic acid. Rapid establishment of the desired epoxyquinol core is facilitated through a key allylic oxidation with high stereoselectivity, which is achieved by fine tuning the cyclohexene substrate structure and reaction conditions.

Abstract:4H,8H-Difurazano[3,4-b:3′,4′-e]pyrazine (DFP) is an important heat-resistant explosive intermediate, but its current synthesis process is still not scalable due to the low yields and acidic smokes in an internal chlorination step to give the intermediate DHFP. In this work, a DMA-promoted chlorination method to synthesize 5,6-dichlorofurazano[3,4-b]pyrazine is described to solve the bottleneck of DFP synthesis. The best reaction conditions were confirmed to be DMA, DHFP, and POCl3 (2:1:40) at 120 °C for 3 h, with an increased yield of 62%. This new method not only increases the yield but also eliminates the acid smokes during postprocessing, and it is likely to find practical applications in the synthesis of DFP and other heat-resistant explosives.

Abstract:A practical eight-step synthesis of a key intermediate of beraprost is described. The tricyclic cyclopent[ b]benzofuran core can be prepared from 2,6-dibromo-4-chlorophenol. The butyric side chain is introduced by ortho-selective metal–halogen exchange and subsequent coupling with 4-(benzyloxy)butanal. The procedure is operationally simple and amenable to scale-up synthesis.

Abstract:A silver-catalyzed intramolecular amination of alkynl-imine substrates has been extensively studied to build various isoquinoline derivatives efficiently. However, most of these transformations are limited to hydroamination, and the related oxidative reaction is quite rare. Importantly, the mechanistic details are still unknown, which retarded further progress in the field. In this work, a novel abnormal mesoionic carbene silver complex (MIC)(n)Ag(I) was isolated and fully characterized as the key intermediate. Further investigation on the oxidative transformation of the silver complex reveals that successful oxidative halogenation could be achieved with NXS (X = Cl, Br, and I), as well as F+ reagent. Surprisingly, the fluorination reaction occurred in the presence of both strong (SelectFluor) and weak (NFSI) fluorinating reagents, although the F-Py-type reagent, whose oxidative potential lies between, is ineffective. Further mechanistic studies disclosed that (1) from kinetic data, the (MIC)Ag(I) complex was proved to be the reactive intermediate in the fluorination reaction, and pyridyl-oxazoline (Pyox) ligand could significantly improve this transformation; (2) from DFT calculation results, two different mechanistic pathways were suggested to be involved, a metathesis process in the case of NFSI promoted by the chelation of sulfonyl group toward the silver center and a redox process in the case of SelectFluor due to its strong oxidative potential.
A Sweet Synthesis of MXenes

Abstract:Two-dimensional transition metal carbides/nitrides (MXenes) have shown great promise in various applications. However, mass production of MXenes suffers from the excessive use of toxic fluorine-containing reagents. Herein, a new method was validated for synthesizing MXenes from five MAX ceramics. The method features a minimized (stoichiometric) dosage of F-containing reagent (NaBF4) and polyols (glycerol, erythritol, and xylitol) as the reaction solvent. Due to the sweetness of polyols and the low environmental impact, we refer to this method as a "sweet" synthesis of MXenes. An in-depth molecular dynamics simulation study, combined with experimental kinetic parameters, further revealed that the diffusion of F- in the confined interplanar space is rate-determining for the etching reaction. The expansion of interlayer spacing by polyols effectively reduces the diffusion activation energy of F- and accelerates the etching reaction.
