Abstract:This study aimed to analyze the relationship between social isolation and subjective cognitive decline (SCD) in Koreans aged 65 years or older. The Korea Community Health Survey was analyzed by applying the individual weights imposed from the original data to 72,904 individuals aged 65 years or older, excluding missing values. The chi-square test and logistic regression analysis were used to analyze the relationship between social isolation and SCD. The SCD experience rate in the social isolation group was 1.15 OR higher than that of the non-social isolation group. Subgroup analysis showed that when social isolation occurred in the non-moderate or vigorous physical activity group, the experience rate of SCD was 1.17 OR higher than that in the non-social isolation group. However, when social isolation occurred in the moderate or vigorous physical activity group, the SCD experience rate decreased by 0.85 OR compared to the non-isolation group but was not statistically significant. In those who experienced depression, when social isolation occurred, the SCD experience rate was 1.19 OR higher than that in the non-isolation group. The results of this study show that the social isolation group had a higher incidence of SCD than the non-social isolation group. In particular, a strong relationship between social isolation and SCD was found in the moderate and vigorous physical activity and depression groups. Therefore, it is expected that the incidence of SCD can be prevented by educating individuals on the importance of participating in moderate or vigorous physical activity and managing depression.
