Abstract:Advancement of the absorbent for CO2 capture is essential in optimizing the performance and reducing the negative environmental effects associated with this technology. Despite ammonia's promise as an absorbent, the volatility limits its practical application and creates potential environmental pollution. Therein, we assess various additives (amino acids, carbonates, and alkanolamines) for ammonia-based solvents using multi-stage circulation absorber from the viewpoints of aerosol emission, ammonia emission, and CO2 capture efficiency. Experimental findings reveal that ammonia volatilization can be inhibited by the protonation of free ammonia by carboxyl groups and the formation of hydrogen bonding between amino/hydroxyl groups and ammonia, with ammonia emission reduced by 21.7 %, aerosol emission reduced by 26.5 %, and CO2 capture efficiency increased to a maximum of 87.8 % under the condition of adding histidine. Moreover, the experiment highlights a positive correlation between total ammonia emission and aerosol concentration/diameter. Additionally, tests combining source abatement with water wash exhibit up to 50.5 % aerosol removal efficiency and up to 76.6 % ammonia removal efficiency. To further mitigate emissions, a comprehensive approach is proposed, achieving an 84.4 % reduction in ammonia emission and a 61.9 % reduction in aerosol emission. Finally, a method for recycling ammonia for desulfurization is suggested.

Abstract:It is of significance to intensively investigate the solid-liquid equilibrium of the NH3-CO2-SO2-K2SO4-H2O system to assess the novel aqueous NH3 based CO2 and SO2 combined capture process proposed in our previous work. In this work, the solubility of K2SO4 in aqueous NH3 at various temperatures, CO2 and SO2 loadings, and NH3 concentrations was predicted using Aspen Plus with a developed thermodynamic model package, which can accurately simulate the vapor-liquid equilibrium and the solid-liquid equilibrium of the combined CO2 and SO2 capture system. The results indicate that the solubility of K2SO4 increases with temperature and CO2 loading, but decreases with NH3 concentration. The precipitation starting point of K2SO4 shift to higher temperature with the increasing of SO2 loading and NH3 concentration. It is favorable to collect K2SO4 precipitates at lower CO2 loading and temperature, and higher SO2 loading and NH3 concentration.
Cost-effective carbon-based amine adsorbents for carbon capture: Equilibrium, kinetics and selectivity

Abstract:The rise in atmospheric CO2 levels is generating alarm with an urgency to develop carbon removal technology. As a promising post-combustion capture method, adsorption process using materials e.g. biochar-based activated carbon (AC) has received increasing attention. Thus, two types of coconut shell (CS) derived ACs that secondary activated by KOH and NaOH are investigated in terms of textural properties, CO2 adsorption behaviors and desorption temperatures. It is demonstrated that KOH shows a better activation effect on capture performance than NaOH, and chemical CS-KOH (CHCS-KOH) could reach the highest BET surface area of 1701.39 m2 g-1 and CO2 uptake of 2.11 mmol g-1 at 0 degrees C, 0.15 bar and 4.17 mmol g-1 at 20 degrees C, 1 bar, respectively. Dynamic adsorption data are well fitted by a pseudo second-order kinetic model, and the samples could be completely desorbed at 40 degrees C. To further explore CO2 uptake and H2O/CO2 adsorption selectivity, amine (PEI/TEPA) modifications are proposed. The results suggest an enhanced adsorption performance of PEI&CHCS-KOH com-posites under humid flue gas with volume ratio of water in the range of 5-15 vol%, which exhibits the highest promoting effect to 1.81 mmol g-1 at 20 degrees C, 0.15 bar with 100% RH 15 vol% H2O for 1 wt% composite. Prominent cost benefit has also been revealed in comparison with PEI&silica gel under the condition of dry and humid conditions, along with superior cyclic stability, which indicates potential application in carbon capture.
Novel Nonaqueous Liquid–Liquid Biphasic Solvent for Energy-Efficient Carbon Dioxide Capture with Low Corrosivity

Abstract:To address the problems of the relatively high energy penalty and corrosivity of aqueous biphasic solvents, a novel nonaqueous biphasic solvent composed of 2-((2-aminoethyl)amino)ethanol (AEEA), dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), and N,N,N′,N″,N″-pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (PMDETA) was proposed for CO2 capture. With optimization, this novel AEEA–DMSO–PMDETA (A–D–P) biphasic solvent could achieve a high CO2 loading of 1.75 mol·mol–1, of which 96.8% of the absorbed CO2 was enriched in the lower phase with only 49.6% of the total volume. 13C NMR analysis and quantum calculations revealed that A–D–P could absorb CO2 to form not only carbamate but also carbamic acid species, which were stabilized by DMSO via hydrogen-bonding interactions. Most products were highly polar and preferred to dissolve in polar DMSO rather than the less polar PMDETA, thus leading to the phase change. The thermodynamics results showed that the heat duty of A–D–P was only 1.66 GJ·ton–1 CO2 (393.15 K), which was significantly lower than that of the benchmark MEA (3.59 GJ·ton–1 CO2) and the reported aqueous biphasic solvents. Moreover, A–D–P presented a noncorrosive behavior to steel after CO2 saturation, clearly showing its superiority over MEA and the aqueous biphasic solvents. Abstract:Today, the emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) has increased sharply as a result of world industrialization and an increase in energy demand. Therefore, finding an economic way to reduce CO2 emissions has been considered a crucial subject for industries. In this research, the mixture of n-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) and six various chemical solvents of monoethanolamine (MEA), methyldiethanolamine (MDEA), potassium carbonate (K2CO3), potassium glycinate (KGly), potassium argininate (KArg), and triethylenetetramine (TETA) is applied in a semi-continuous bubble column reactor system at pressure 1 bar and room temperature. Based on the result, the addition of the NMP to water causes the absorption capacity to increase. But, it has a negative effect on the absorption capacity of chemical absorbents so that the order of absorption is aqueous solvent (water 95 wt% + chemical compound 5 wt%) > semi-aqueous solvent (water 45 wt% + NMP 50 wt% + chemical compound 5 wt%) > non-aqueous solvent (NMP 95 wt% + chemical compound 5 wt%), respectively. TETA with 637 and 538% absorption enhancement among aqueous and semi-aqueous solvents, respectively, and MEA with 572% absorption increment compared to water among non-aqueous solvents have shown the best absorption capacity. Also, KArg has the highest CO2 loading (mole CO2/mole chemical), therefore, KArg is a promising solvent to use in CO2 absorption. Further, due to the inability of the bubble column to tolerate high pressures, the effect of pressure (2, 5, 10 and 30 bar) on MDEA solutions has been investigated in a high-pressure batch system at temperature 298 K. It has been observed that an increase in pressure strongly affects the performance of non-aqueous solvents. So, the non-aqueous solvents are more effective when the partial pressure of CO2 is high.

Abstract:CO2 capture using biphasic solvents is a promising technology for a significant reduction in regeneration energy. However, the existing biphasic solvents suffer significant amine loss because volatile tertiary amines with a high concentration (similar to 60 wt %) are used as the phase separation promoter. To address this drawback, high boiling point physical solvents were employed into aqueous alkanolamines to exploit a biphasic solvent for CO2 capture. We utilized diethylene glycol dimethyl ether (DEGDME) and sulfolane as the phase separation promoters and developed 2-amino-2-methyl-l-propanol (AMP)/monoethanolamine (MEA) blend-based physical-chemical biphasic solvents. Distribution of CO2 loading, amine species, physical solvents, and water in the two phases after CO2 absorption were investigated to optimize the phase separation behavior. C-13 NMR analysis indicated that CO2 absorption in an AMP/MEA-based physical-chemical solution is first dominated by CO2 reaction with MEA and then followed by the hydrolysis reaction of AMP carbamate at high CO2 loading. The physical solvents facilitate the extraction of water and CO2 reaction products and result in liquid phase separation. The CO2 absorption rate in AMP/MEA-based physical-chemical solution is faster than in aqueous AMP/MEA. The optimal AMP/MEA-based physical-chemical biphasic solvent shows a 69% higher CO2 capacity and a 36% lower regeneration energy than 30% MEA. Further, both effects of increased viscosity and the phase separation on the regeneration energy were evaluated.

Abstract:Biphasic solvents for CO 2 capture have received significant attention due to their potential for energy conservation. However, traditional biphasic solvents result in highly viscous CO 2 rich-phases and high amine losses. To overcome these drawbacks, we have developed a novel alkanolamine-based biphasic solvent by blending 2-(methylamino) ethanol (MAE), 3-(dimethylamino)propan-1-ol (3DMA1P), diethylene glycol dimethyl ether (DGM), and water. The aqueous MAE/3DMA1P/DGM solvent showed a cyclic capacity of 0.45 mol CO 2 /mol amine, which is 1.8 times that of monoethanolamine (MEA), and a desorption rate and regeneration efficiency twice those of MEA. The viscosity of the biphasic solvents can be reduced to 13.12 mPa⋅s at 313 K, which is lower than that of reported biphasic solvents. The evaluated regeneration energy was 2.33 GJ/ton CO 2 . Cation chromatography measurements revealed the tendency of MAE to accumulate in the CO 2 -rich phase with increasing CO 2 absorption loading. Quantitative 13 C NMR analyses were performed to investigate the species distribution in both phases, and DGM was found to be the major component of the CO 2 -lean phase. Different solubilities of the MAE molecules and MAE carbamate in DGM resulted in phase separation. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations on the CO 2 -unloaded and CO 2 -loaded solutions verified the phase separation mechanism. MAE molecules tended to cluster, and the interactions between MAE and DGM dropped significantly, with increasing DGM concentration.

Abstract:The trend toward global warming has become more and more apparent in recent years. It has been widely accepted that CO2 is the main contributor to this process and that CO2 emissions urgently need to be reduced. However, the capital cost for CO2 capture from a coal-fired power station using traditional solvent absorption technology is relatively high. A possible solution to reduce the cost is to achieve absorption of SO2, NOx, and CO2 in a one-step process. Potassium carbonate (K2CO3) is a potential solvent for absorbing all of these components simultaneously. To apply this absorption process in an industrial situation, it is very important to understand the interaction between the solvent and minor components contained in the flue gas, such as SO2 and NOx. The effect of SO2 on CO2 absorption using K2CO3 solutions has been previously discussed. This paper studies the influence of NOx upon CO2 absorption using 30 wt % K2CO3 solvent. It was found that the reaction between NOx and K2CO3 was irreversible, which would result in the accumulation of NO2- and NO3- in the solvent using an industrial flue gas process, with a simultaneous reduction in the CO32- concentration.
Computational Screening of Physical Solvents for CO2 Pre-combustion Capture

Abstract:A computational scheme was used to screen physical solvents for CO2 pre-combustion capture by integrating the commercial NIST database, an in-house computational database, chem-informatics, and molecular modeling. A commercially available screened hydrophobic solvent, diethyl sebacate, was identified from the screening with favorable physical properties and promising absorption performance. The promising performance to use diethyl sebacate in CO2 pre-combustion capture has also been confirmed from experiments. Water loading in diethyl sebacate is very low, and therefore, water is kept with H2 in the gas stream. The favorable CO2 interaction with diethyl sebacate and the intermediate solvent free volume fraction leads to both high CO2 solubility and high CO2/H2 solubility selectivity in diethyl sebacate. An in-house NETL computational database was built to characterize CO2, H2, N2, and H2O interactions with 202 different chemical functional groups. It was found that 13% of the functional groups belong to the strong interaction category with the CO2 interaction energy between -15 and -21 kJ/mol; 62% of the functional groups interact intermediately with CO2 (-8 to -15 kJ/mol). The remaining 25% of functional groups interact weakly with CO2 (below -8 kJ/mol). In addition, calculations show that CO2 interactions with the functional groups are stronger than N2 and H2 interactions but are weaker than H2O interactions. The CO2 and H2O interactions with the same functional groups exhibit a very strong linear positive correlation coefficient of 0.92. The relationship between CO2 and H2 gas solubilities and solvent fractional free volume (FFV) has been systematically studied for seven solvents at 298.2 K. A skewed bell-shaped relation was obtained between CO2 solubility and solvent FFV. When an organic compound has a density approximately 10% lower than its density at 298.2 K and 1 bar, it exhibits the highest CO2 loading at that specific solvent density and FFV. Note that the solvent densities were varied using simulations, which are difficult to be obtained from the experiment. In contrast, H2 solubility results exhibit an almost perfect positive linear correlation with the solvent FFV. The theoretical maximum and minimum physical CO2 solubilities in any organic compound at 298.2 K were estimated to be 11 and 0.4 mol/MPa L, respectively. An examination of 182 experimental CO2 physical solubility data and 29 simulated CO2 physical solubilities shows that all the CO2 physical solubility data are within the maximum and minimum with only a few exceptions. Finally, simulations suggest that in order to develop physical solvents with both high CO2 solubility and high CO2/H2 solubility selectivity, the solvents should contain functional groups which are available to interact strongly with CO2 while minimizing FFV.
Parametrical Study on CO2 Capture from Ambient Air Using Hydrated K2CO3 Supported on an Activated Carbon Honeycomb

Abstract:Potassium carbonate is a highly hygroscopic salt, and this aspect becomes important for CO2 capture from ambient air. Moreover, CO2 capture from ambient air requires adsorbents with a very low pressure drop. In the present work an activated carbon honeycomb monolith was coated with K2CO3, and it was treated with moist N2 to hydrate it. Its CO2 capture capacity was studied as a function of the temperature, the water content of the air, and the air flow rate, following a factorial design of experiments. It was found that the water vapor content in the air had the largest influence on the CO2 adsorption capacity. Moreover, the deliquescent character of K2CO3 led to the formation of an aqueous solution in the pores of the carrier, which regulated the temperature of the CO2 adsorption. The transition between the anhydrous and the hydrated forms of potassium carbonate was studied by means of FT-IR spectroscopy. It can be concluded that hydrated potassium carbonate is a promising and cheap alternative for CO2 capture from ambient air for the production of CO2-enriched air or for the synthesis of solar fuels, such as methanol.

Abstract:Phase separation solvents for CO2 absorption constructed with amine/ether/water have been designed which transform into two liquid phases after CO2 absorption. We also found that phase separation solvent can reduce the temperature difference between absorber and desorber that can reduce the required energy for CO2 capture. In this study, we develop a model for the CO2 solubility of phase-separation type CO2 absorbent which is necessary for process simulation. Ion species in the liquid phase was estimated by 13C NMR, and the ion association form was inferred from the Walden plot based on conductivity and viscosity. The CO2 solubility model expressed the vapour-liquid equilibrium as the Henry's law constant, the liquid-liquid equilibrium as the non-random two-liquid activity coefficient model, and the liquid phase CO2 chemical absorption as the equilibrium constant. The model can predict CO2 solubility at temperature range (313–363 K) and CO2 partial pressure range (1–100 kPa) and compositions of CO2-lean and CO2-rich phases can be calculated when phase separation occurs.

Abstract:The present research explores water-lean amine-based solvents to enhance carbon capture and provide sustainable solutions for CO2 emissions challenges. A computational approach is employed to evaluate the co-solvent’s impact on CO2 capture in MDEA-based systems. The performance of the following systems is examined: MDEA-NMP, MDEA-MAE-NMP, MDEA-MeOH, MDEA-MAE-MeOH, MDEA-EG, MDEA-MAE-EG, and MDEA-MAE with varying water concentrations. The Radial Distribution Function (RDF) analysis revealed significant interactions between amine groups, CO2, and water molecules in each system. The results indicate that the MDEA-NMP (40% H2O) and MDEA-EG (40% H2O) systems had strong interactions, indicating their potential for CO2 capture. However, adding MAE decreased interaction intensities, indicating a less favorable performance. Complementing the RDF findings, the Mean Square Displacement (MSD) analysis quantified CO2 diffusivity across temperatures (313 K, 323 K, and 333 K). MDEA-NMP (40% H2O) demonstrated the highest diffusivity, indicating superior CO2 mobility and capture efficiency. MDEA-MeOH (40% H2O) also showed moderate diffusivity, further supporting its effectiveness. However, solvent systems incorporating MAE consistently displayed lower diffusivity, reinforcing the observation from the RDF analysis. The temperature effect on the diffusivity of selected blends does not follow the regular pattern in a co-solvent-based system, whereas in an aqueous system, it increases with temperature. These molecular dynamic simulations highlight the critical role of solvent composition in optimizing CO2 capture efficiency. Applying these insights can improve solvent formulations, enhance effectiveness, and reduce costs.
Design and performance evaluation of low-volatility and low-viscosity absorbents for CO2 capture

Abstract:Deficiencies such as high viscosity, volatility, and rich phase precipitation limited the engineering application of non-aqueous absorbents. A series of high boiling point solvent screening experiments were conducted to develop an absorption saturated solution with a homogeneous phase at low viscosity (14.71 mPa s) in this study. Further addition of polyamines increased the absorption capacity by 42% (3.55 mol CO 2 per kg). The 13 C NMR results indicated that in the DETA/MEA/NMF blended amine system, MEA was involved in the deprotonation process of DETA zwitterions as proton acceptors. Quantum chemical calculations were utilized to compare the energies of each possible single-step reaction, providing insights into the reaction pathways of the blended amine system. The rate constant of the MEA/CO 2 reaction was found to be 1.98 times that of the DETA/CO 2 reaction, indicating lower reaction activity, consistent with NMR results. In addition, the results of the analysis of weak interactions revealed that the hydrogen bonds were key factors affecting the viscosity change and precipitation in non-aqueous absorbents, providing a new method for designing novel low-viscosity non-aqueous absorbents. The combination of theoretical analysis and experimental results underscores the potential of the blended amine non-aqueous absorbent as a feasible alternative for the industrial applications of CO 2 capture.

Abstract:In this work, we proposed aqueous blends of 2-(diethylamino)-ethanol (DEEA) and monoethanolamine (MEA) or 2-((2-aminoethyl) amino) ethanol (AEEA) as the biphasic solvent for CO2 capture. Aqueous DEEA-AEEA solvent maintained an effective CO2 loading range (0.86-3.15 mol/kg) that gives two phases at 40 ℃. During the two-phase formation, more than 95% of absorbed CO2 concentrated in the lower phase and the weight percentage of the lower phase was found to increase with increased total CO2 loading. Quantitative 13C NMR analysis indicated that AEEA reactions with CO2 dominate at the beginning of CO2 absorption and the reaction products are in forms of carbamates. Then DEEA starts to react with CO2 and the reaction products are bicarbonate and carbonate. Analysis on the phase split behavior indicated that CO2 products of carbamates and HCO3-/CO32- migrated to the lower phase while DEEA and unreacted AEEA migrated to the upper phase.
Experimental investigation on CO2 absorption and physicochemical characteristics of different carbon-loaded aqueous solvents

Abstract:The anthropogenic carbon dioxide (CO2) denseness in the earth's atmosphere is increasing day-to-day by combusting fossil fuels for power generation. And, it is the most important greenhouse gas (GHG) responsible for 64% of global warming. Solvent-based carbon capture gained more attention towards researchers because of its easiness to integrate with the coal-fired power plant without significant modifications. During CO2 absorption, the physical property of the solvent gets changed. A change in the solvent's physicochemical property affects further CO2 absorption, thereby increasing the carbon-capture energy demand. The present experimental study encompasses CO2 absorption studies using 30 wt% aqueous monoethanolamine (MEA), 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol (AMP) and piperazine (PZ) followed by the detailed analysis of physicochemical properties (pH, carbon loading (α), viscosity (μ), density (ρ) and surface tension (σ)) of various CO2-loaded solutions. The results revealed that these properties are exhibiting interdependent eccentrics. Furthermore, an empirical model was developed to predict the carbon loading of the tested solvents. This model includes the tested physicochemical properties, reaction mixture temperature, diffusivity and change in the mass of solvent during carbon loading. In addition, an empirical model for viscosity as a function of temperature, carbon loading and molecular weight of solvents was developed. These models appear to predict the carbon loading and the viscosity well with greater accuracy. Graphical abstract.

Abstract:In the pursuit of efficient carbon capture technologies, the selection and design of solvents play a pivotal role, directly impacting various crucial factors such as CO2 absorption capacity, equipment size, and regeneration energy requirements. The primary focus is on optimizing solvent systems through a comprehensive analysis of intermolecular interaction intensity, diffusion coefficient, and intra-molecular interaction intensity. This study employs a molecular dynamics simulation model to identify the most suitable solvent system by assessing the effect of operating variables like temperature, concentration, interaction intensity, and diffusivity of various single and blended amine systems. The assessment utilizes the radial distribution function and mean square displacement analysis. The results indicate that intermolecular interactions with CO2 are most significant in 30 wt.% 2EAE, 40 wt.% 2DMAE and 10% DMCA with 20% MCA ratio concentrations. TMPAD, in particular, stands out for its high repulsive interaction and low energy requirement for breaking the carbamate /bicarbonate ion. Diffusion behavior in various observed solvent systems is as follows: EAE > MEA > DMAE > MAE-DEAB > MAE-DMA2P > EAE-TMPAD > AMP-PZ > EAE-DEAB > MAE-TMPAD > EAE-DMA2P > MAE-DMAE > EAE-DMAE > TMPAD > MEA-AMP > DMA2P > DMCA-MCA > DEAB > MEA-PZ. Moreover, elevated temperatures facilitate enhanced diffusivity, leading to accelerated mass transfer rates. This implies the possibility of reducing the size of absorber units and lowering energy consumption. Further studies on heat of absorption and kinetic characteristics of solvent blends are necessary to ensure their practical applicability in carbon capture and industrial operations.

Abstract:Non-aqueous amine systems have been suggested as energy-efficient alternatives to conventional aqueous amine systems in post-combustion carbon capture, as low regeneration temperatures can be achieved. The solubility of CO2 and heat of absorption in non-aqueous systems were studied using the sterically hindered amine 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propnaol (AMP) in the organic solvent dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). 13C NMR was used to study the product species in solution as CO2 reacts with AMP in either DMSO or N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP). The solubility of CO2 in AMP/DMSO showed that low loadings could be achieved at 80–88 °C, indicating that regeneration can be carried out at lower temperatures than in conventional aqueous systems. Precipitation occurred at 25 wt% AMP in DMSO, increasing the overall capacity of the system. The heat of absorption decreased with increasing temperature, and was explained by physical absorption dominating the absorption mechanism at higher temperatures. This was also confirmed by the results of NMR, as less chemically absorbed species were observed at higher temperatures. The reaction products observed in AMP/DMSO and AMP/NMP were identified as the AMP carbamate, bicarbonate from water impurities, and the AMP carbonate from CO2 reacting with the hydroxyl group of AMP.

Abstract:As an emerging green and sustainable solvent, a deep eutectic solvent (DES) applied to the carbon capture process is considered to be a promising absorbent. This work aims to comprehensively evaluate the potential and effectiveness of DESs for CO2 capture. First, a hydrophobic DES, which is composed of tetrabutylammonium bromide as the hydrogen bond acceptor (HBA) and decanoic acid as the hydrogen bond donor (HBD) with a molar ratio of 1:2, was screened out from 280 DESs by the conductor-like screening models–segment activity coefficient (COSMO-SAC) model. Then, quantum chemistry methods were used to investigate the interaction mechanism between the DES and CO2. The results show that the interactions between CO2 and the DES are mainly weak hydrogen bonds and van der Waals dispersion attraction forces. Next, gas–liquid equilibrium experiments were performed to investigate the effects of temperature and pressure, the types of HBAs and HBDs, and the molar ratios of HBA to HBD on the solubility of CO2. The results show that the process of DES absorbing CO2 obeys Henry's law and confirm the reliability of the COSMO-SAC model prediction. Finally, a rigorous rate-based model for the DES-based postcombustion CO2 capture process was simulated, and the life cycle environmental sustainability was evaluated and compared with that of the traditional solvent monoethanolamine, confirming the advantages of the negligible vapor pressure, thermal stability, and low ecological toxicity of the DES. Abstract:Amidst growing environmental concerns stemming from fossil fuel combustion, which releases a considerable amount of pollutants and greenhouse gas. In an effort to mitigate the costs of existing combustion flue gas desulfurization and CO2 capture systems, a new multi-stage circulation (MSC) process for integrating capture of CO2 and SO2 using ammonia-based absorbents was proposed. Different functional zones were interconnected using ammonia (NH3) and potassium carbonate (K2CO3) blended solution as the absorbent, enabling efficient SO2 capture in the 1st stage, CO2 enrichment in the 2nd stage, CO2 capture enhancement in the 3rd stage and recovery of escaped NH3 in the 4th stage. Experimental results demonstrated the effectiveness of NH3/K2CO3 solution in enhancing CO2 capture efficiency. The overall CO2 capture efficiency varied between 95.4 % and 84.1 % at inlet CO2 concentrations ranging from 5 % to 30 %. Under typical combustion flue gas conditions of 622 ppm SO2 and 15 vol% CO2, the process exhibited a SO2 removal efficiency exceeding 99.5 %, with CO2 capture efficiency surpassing 70 %. Furthermore, the CO2 desorption duty was determined to be 2.48 GJ/t CO2. 13C NMR results confirmed that simultaneous absorption of CO2 and SO2 led to the accumulation of SO2 in the liquid phase, reducing the CO2 loading in rich solvent. To address these challenges, coupled optimization strategies was proposed, ensuring high capture efficiency and low CO2 desorption duty under the complex and variable conditions of flue gas parameters, SO2 concentration, and CO2 concentration.
