Abstract:By considering that there is a delay on the impact of fear to the growth rate of prey, we consider a delayed diffusive predator–prey model with fear effect. First, we give some conditions of the existence of the equilibria. Then, sufficient conditions for the occurrence of Turing, Hopf and Turing–Hopf bifurcation are also obtained. Furthermore, the global asymptotic stability of the positive equilibrium is studied. Finally, some numerical simulations are presented to verify our theoretical results. It shows that the system has various spatiotemporal patterns induced by delay.

Abstract:This paper concerned with a diffusive predator–prey model with fear effect. First, some basic dynamics of system is analyzed. Then based on stability analysis, we derive some conditions for stability and bifurcation of constant steady state. Furthermore, we derive some results on the existence and nonexistence of nonconstant steady states of this model by considering the effect of diffusion. Finally, we present some numerical simulations to verify our theoretical results. By mathematical and numerical analyses, we find that the fear can prevent the occurrence of limit cycle oscillation and increase the stability of the system, and the diffusion can also induce the chaos in the system.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to studying the dynamics of a delayed reaction-diffusion predator–prey system incorporating the effects of fear and anti-predator behaviour. First, based on its mathematical model, the global attractor is analyzed and the local stability of its positive equilibria is derived. Moreover, the Hopf bifurcation induced by the time delay variable is also investigated. Furthermore, the existence and non-existence of non-constant positive solutions are analyzed. Finally, numerical simulations are presented to validate the theoretical analysis.

Abstract:In this paper, a diffusive predator–prey system with fear factor response subject to Neumann boundary conditions is considered. Bifurcations at the boundary equilibria of the corresponding ODE are confirmed by Sotomayor's theorem. Detailed bifurcation analysis shows that the reaction–diffusion system undergoes Hopf bifurcation and steady‐state bifurcation. The bifurcation direction and the stability of the bifurcating periodic solutions are also given. Finally, numerical simulation results are carried out to verify the theoretical results.

Abstract:We study the complex dynamics of a Monod–Haldane-type predator–prey interaction model that incorporates: (1) A constant time delay in the prey growth; and (2) diffusion in both prey and predator. We provide the rigorous results of our system including the asymptotic stability of a positive equilibrium; Hopf bifurcation; and the direction of Hopf bifurcation and the stability of bifurcated periodic solutions. We also perform numerical simulations on the effects of diffusion or/and delay when the corresponding ODE model has either a unique interior equilibrium with two interior attractors or two interior equilibria. Our theoretical and numerical results show that diffusion can either stabilize or destabilize the system; large delay could destabilize the system; and the combination of diffusion and delay could intensify the instability of the system. Moreover, when the corresponding ODE system has two interior equilibria, diffusion or time delay in prey or both could lead to the extinction of predator. Our results may provide us useful biological insights on population managements for prey–predator interaction systems.

Abstract:We explore a diffusive predator-prey system that incorporates the fear effect in advective environments. Firstly, we analyze the eigenvalue problem and the adjoint operator, considering Constant-Flux and Dirichlet (CF/D) boundary conditions, as well as Free-Flow (FF) boundary conditions. Our investigation focuses on determining the direction and stability of spatial Hopf bifurcation, with the generation delay $\tau$ serving as the bifurcation parameter. Additionally, we examine the influence of both linear and Holling-II functional responses on the dynamics of the model. Through these analyses, we aim to gain a better understanding of the intricate relationship between advection, predation, and prey response in this system.

Abstract:Effect of anti-predator defense due to fear of predator felt by prey and effect of toxic substance released by external sources on prey–predator system is a serious mater of concern in mathematical biology. In the proposed model we have discussed a prey–predator system in which both the species are infected by environmental toxicant. In our consideration prey species is directly infected by environmental toxicant and predator gets infected by consuming infected prey. Prey's growth rate is assumed to be affected by fear of predator. In this work the proposed predator–prey model is analyzed in presence of environmental fluctuation, i.e., stochastic analysis of this model is discussed. Using Itô formula: positivity, boundedness, uniform continuity criterion and global attractivity of solutions of this system have been established. Conditions for which the prey as well as the predator goes extinct have been derived. Conditions for persistence of the system have also been discussed. Mathematical findings have been validated in numerical simulation by MATLAB. Different effects of different levels of toxicant and different levels of fear have been demonstrated by depicting figures in numerical simulation using MATLAB.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a diffusive predator–prey model with two delays, i.e., a spatial memory delay and a toxic effect delay. Initially, we analyze the global existence of the solution of the system. We then analyze the equilibria's local stability without delays and investigate the Hopf bifurcation induced by one delay. Subsequently, we establish an analytical framework for constructing the stability switching curve in the delay space. Finally, we present numerical simulations to validate the theoretical results and verify the emergence of various spatial patterns in the system.

Abstract:We formulate and concern a diffusive delayed predator–prey system with herd behavior and fear effect; an Allee effect term and prey chemotaxis are both considered. We first investigate the stability of the system under the strong Allee effect and weak Allee effect without spatial diffusion or time delay. For the spatiotemporal system, the constant positive steady states and semi-trivial steady states are presented. Then, the dynamic behaviors of the diffusive system are demonstrated in detail, and the conditions of Turing instability caused by prey chemotaxis are explored. In addition, we regard the time delay as a bifurcation parameter to investigate the stability of reaction–diffusion system. The normal form theory and center manifold theorem are applied to derive the properties of Hopf bifurcation of the delayed diffusive system. Finally, series of computer simulations are given to verify the theoretical analysis and show how fear effect affects the stability of system.

Abstract:Dynamics of predator–prey systems is of great importance in ecosystems. In this paper, we present and analyse a stochastic eco-epidemiological predator–prey model where the influence of anti-predator behaviour is investigated due to the fear induced from the predators. Through mathematical analysis, it has been observed that the model has a unique and global positive solution. Sufficient criteria are established for the existence and ergodicity of a unique stationary distribution. Moreover, stochastic extinction for the whole eco-epidemiological system or only the infectious disease have been analysed.

Abstract:We consider a reaction-diffusion predator-prey model with predator-taxis, in which both the cost and the benefit induced by fear of predators are incorporated. In particular, the benefit of fear is reflected in the Beddington-DeAngelis functional response that can be derived in view of avoidance behaviours of prey. Critical conditions for Turing instability are determined with the help of the first Turing bifurcation curve in the two-parameter plane composed by the random diffusion rate of prey and the predator-taxis rate. For predator-taxis-induced bifurcation from simple eigenvalues, the existence and stability of non-homogeneous positive steady state solutions are established. Especially, we use decomposition in space and apply the implicit function theorem to obtain the bifurcation theorem with double eigenvalues. Theoretical and numerical results show that low predator-taxis sensitivity may cause the occurrence of spatial patterns when the random diffusion rate of prey is slow. However, the presence of predator-taxis can not lead to pattern formation when the random diffusion rate of prey is fast enough. In addition, increasing the level of fear may stabilize the system at the expense of the density of prey or predators.

Abstract:The motivation of this paper is inspired by the research of Zanette et al. (2011) [4] , which reveals that the perception of predation risk can reduce the number of juvenile prey. To investigate how fear affects the behavior of prey population, we formulate a predator-prey model with a stage structure for prey in which adult prey is undergoing the interference of fear. First, the dynamic properties of the model are analyzed, including the existence and stability of equilibria, bifurcations dynamics, such as transcritical, saddle-node, and Hopf bifurcations. Our results reveal that fear can promote the formation of the stability of the model by transforming it from an unstable state to a stable state. Numerical simulations and theoretical analysis indicated that when the level of fear reaches 25.4, the number of juvenile prey affected by fear decreases by 40% compared to those not affected by fear. Terrifyingly, the predators are on the brink of extinction in high levels of fear. Moreover, we examine the impact of time delay on fear in the previous model as prey needs some time to assess the predation risk. Some dynamic characteristics of this delayed model are also analyzed. Results indicate that the fear effect is conducive to generating a stable state, while delay is detrimental to generating a stable state, leading to limit cycles or even chaos.

Abstract:Recent studies on terrestrial vertebrates have unveiled a correlation between fear of predators and a reduction in anti-predator defenses, leading to a significant decline in prey reproduction. Given the critical importance of prey population levels, we have introduced a fear factor into a discrete-time predator–prey model to investigate its influence on the complex and dynamic behavior of the system This research primarily focuses on assessing the local stability of both trivial and boundary equilibrium points and exploring the criteria for Neimark–Sacker and period-doubling bifurcations. Moreover, we have applied chaos control techniques to identify the stability region and corroborated our theoretical findings through experimental data. Unlike previous research, our study incorporates chaos control methodology and experimental data validation. Consequently, it contributes significantly to the comprehension of predator–prey interactions by incorporating the influence of fear on prey reproduction. Furthermore, this research introduces novelty and reliability for future investigations by integrating chaos control techniques and validating the findings using experimental data.

Abstract:Taking into account the impacts of the fear by predator, anti-predation response, refuge for prey, additional food supplement for predator and the delayed fear induced by the predator, we establish a delayed predator-prey model in this paper. We analyze the persistence and extinction of species and the existence and uniqueness of a coexistence fixed point. Particularly, we investigate the local asymptotic stability of the equilibrium by use of the characteristic equation theory of a variational matrix. Applying the Hopf bifurcation theorem, we investigate and obtain the bifurcation thresholds of the parameters of fear, refuge coefficient, the quality and quantity of additional food and the anti-predation delayed response produced by prey. Finally we give some examples to verify our theoretical findings and clarify the detailed influences of these parameters on the system dynamics. The main conclusions reveal that these parameters play an important role in the long-term behaviors of species and should be applied correctly to preserve the continuous development of species.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a diffusive predator-prey system with fear response delay, where a benefit from the ani-predation response in addition to the cost is taken into account. As a step toward understanding the underlying mechanism of the spatiotemporal pattern formations by rigorous mathematical analysis, we are interested in how the joint effects of time delay, the fear effect strength, the carrying capacity, as well as the diffusion rates could affect the complex spatiotemporal pattern formations of the system. In particular, Turing instability of the Hopf bifurcating periodic solutions is investigated in details. To that end, a general formula is derived to determine Turing instability of the Hopf bifurcating periodic solutions for general 2-component delayed-diffusive system. This extends our earlier general results for non-delayed diffusive system to its delayed-diffusive counterparts. Our general formula tends to be new and can be applied to a variety of 2-component delayed-diffusive systems.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a Holling type II predator–prey system with prey refuge, Allee effect, fear effect and time delay. The existence and stability of the equilibria of the system are investigated. Under the variation of the delay as a parameter, the system experiences a Hopf bifurcation at the positive equilibrium when the delay crosses some critical values. We also analyze the direction of Hopf bifurcation and the stability of bifurcating periodic solution by the center manifold theorem and normal form theory. We show that the influence of fear effect and Allee effect is negative, while the impact of the prey refuge is positive. In particular, the birth rate plays an important role in the stability of the equilibria. Examples with associated numerical simulations are provided to prove our main results.

Abstract:The contemporary study copes with a generalist predator–prey model with nonlinear cross-diffusion embracing prey refuge in proportion to both the species along with the ratio-dependent functional response. The investigation commences with the well-posedness keeping in view of the existence of all feasible non-negative equilibria together with their global dynamics for the corresponding temporal model. The refuge parameter plays a key role in the dynamics of the model in general and mediates the uniform persistence, the stability of the boundary and coexistent equilibria and even the Turing instability space, in particular. Another important observation is that refuge possessing a constant proportion predator–prey encounters leads to a weaker stabilizing effect than refuge possessing a constant proportion prey under certain system parameters. Subsequent exploration on three eminent classes of mechanism for Turing instability around the positive spatially homogeneous steady state reveals dynamical complexity stimulated by generalist predator of the model system. Some comparisons are given between refuge depending on prey and refuge depending on both the species. Finally, numerical simulations expose to view the growth of spatiotemporal patterns controlled by prey refuge together with both self- and cross-diffusion following the sequence of spots, stripe–spot mixtures, stripes, labyrinth, stripe–hole mixtures and holes as well. Thus the proposed model appears to be rich and complex from the dynamical point of view having novelty to contribute much to the system in the realm of ecology.

Abstract:This paper investigates complex dynamics of a predator-prey interaction model that incorporates: (a) an Allee effect in prey; (b) the Michaelis-Menten type functional response between prey and predator; and (c) diffusion in both prey and predator. We provide rigorous mathematical results of the proposed model including: (1) the stability of non-negative constant steady states; (2) sufficient conditions that lead to Hopf/Turing bifurcations; (3) a prior estimates of positive steady states; (4) the non-existence and existence of non-constant positive steady states when the model is under zero-flux boundary condition. We also perform completed analysis of the corresponding ODE model to obtain a better understanding on effects of diffusion on the stability. Our analytical results show that the small values of the ratio of the prey's diffusion rate to the predator's diffusion rate are more likely to destabilize the system, thus generate Hopf-bifurcation and Turing instability that can lead to different spatial patterns. Through numerical simulations, we observe that our model, with or without Allee effect, can exhibit extremely rich pattern formations that include but not limit to strips, spotted patterns, symmetric patterns. In addition, the strength of Allee effects also plays an important role in generating distinct spatial patterns. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:In predator–prey interactions, the effect of fear is an important factor in building ecological communities, affecting biodiversity, and maintaining ecological balance. In this paper, we present a specific predator–prey model that incorporates the effects of fear on prey populations by focusing on non-overlapping generations. Our study aims to explore the existence of biologically feasible equilibrium points and to analyze local asymptotic behavior around these points. Furthermore, using the center manifold theorem and the normal form theory of bifurcations, we study period-doubling bifurcations about prey-free and interior (positive) fixed points. On the other hand, the Neimark-Sacker bifurcation around the positive equilibrium point is investigated by applying the bifurcation theory of normal forms. We study the existence of chaos and present effective strategies to control the fluctuating and chaotic behaviors in the system using various chaos control techniques. Numerical simulations are presented to illustrate the theoretical discussion.
