Abstract:With the growing awareness of fast depleting fossil fuels, renewable energy resources are being searched and some are already being used as alternative energy. Biomass is a renewable energy source which can be used for biofuel production. In this context, this work aims at producing bio-oil using waste animal fat along with Al2O3 employing pyrolysis method and to check the emissions of the oil produced. The waste animal fat is thermally decomposed under oxygen deficient conditions into various phases like Vapours condensed to bio-oil (Liquid), Bio-char residues (Solid), Syngas (Gaseous products).Waste animal fat is heated from room temperature to 450°C in the time period of 2 hours. The bio-oil was obtained after heating for 49 min at 240℃. It was observed that the production of Oil was maximum in the temperature range of 340°C – 380°C. The obtained bio-oil was mixed with diesel and was tested in diesel engine. It is observed from the test results that the B10 oil could be used as fuel for diesel engines without making any modifications. There was a close similarity between the performance of the blended WAF bio-oil and pure diesel. The cost of blended fuel B10 was less when compared with pure diesel.
