Abstract:A great deal of investment and research is currently being funnelled into autonomous vehicles for farming applications – not only for production benefits, but also to secure them from cyber attacks in an effective and efficient manner. Some of these applications include automated irrigation, fertiliser and chemical deployment, automated weeding (by means of administering an electrical discharge to dismember the weed from the root) as well as autonomous harvesting using remotely controlled, GPS-tracked, heavy-duty autonomous vehicles. All of the autonomous devices are controlled using publicly accessible Internet highways and networks – but this leaves them vulnerable to malicious attacks, and therefore they are at risk of being hijacked or taken ransom.
