Abstract:Lotus has been widely used as the economic staple vegetable for the preparation of soups and braised dishes in China. Its extracts have been employed as functional foods for their diuretic, astringent, fever-reducing and heat-clearing effects, and to treat hemostasis and obesity. We present herein a new eco-friendly approach for the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) by using the lotus aqueous extract as a reducing and stabilizing agent. The AgNPs so-prepared were quasi-spherical in shape and uniformly dispersed, with an average diameter of 12.9 +/- 3.7 nm. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) revealed that water soluble biomolecules from the lotus extract played important roles in the formation of the AgNPs. The AgNPs displayed distinctive antibacterial and cytotoxic activities. The results confirmed that the lotus can be a low-cost, nontoxic and eco-friendly natural resource for the synthesis of AgNPs, which might be useful for the development of new alternative antibacterial and anticancer agents in biomedicine.

Abstract:In this study, catechol-conjugated chitosan (CSS) was synthesized to prepare silver nanoparticles in aqueous solution as both a reducing and stabilizing agent. The entire reaction process complied with the principles of green chemistry. The stability and physicochemical properties of CSS-coated silver nanoparticles (CSS–Ag NPs) were well characterized by a series of techniques. A narrow diameter distribution and excellent stability were observed in the target CSS–Ag NPs. Determination of the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and the disk diffusion test were applied to evaluate the antibacterial activities with respect to quantity and quality, respectively. The cytotoxic effects on HepG2 cells were also evaluated with a series of assays. The resulting CSS–Ag NPs combined the unique properties of chitosan and silver nanoparticles, showing effective antibacterial activities and low cytotoxicity. The effective toxic concentration of CSS–Ag NPs towards E. coli and S. aureus is too low to damage HepG2 cells. The results demonstrated that CSS–Ag NPs could be a potential candidate for use in biological and pharmaceutical areas to prevent infections caused by microorganisms.

Abstract:Ag nanoparticles (Ag NPs) with antibacterial properties were synthesized by using a one-step method. The reagents used were environmentally friendly, and no subsequent purification treatment was required. This method conformed to the concept of green chemistry, and the synthesized silver nanoparticles had biosafety and antibacterial properties. The structure of Ag NPs was investigated and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The particle size of Ag NPs was approximately 14.01 nm, and the particle size distribution was relatively uniform. The antibacterial properties of Ag NPs were studied by conducting an inhibition circle experiment and investigating the growth curve. Lignin-capped Ag NPs (L-Ag NPs) were synthesized and characterized as inorganic antibacterial agents with good antibacterial activity and no biological toxicity.

Abstract:Antibacterial resistance is by far one of the greatest challenges to global health. Many pharmaceutical or material strategies have been explored to overcome this dilemma. Of these, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are known to have a non-specific antibacterial mechanism that renders it difficult to engender silver-resistant bacteria, enabling them to be more powerful antibacterial agents than conventional antibiotics. AgNPs have shown promising antibacterial effects in both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The aim of this review is to summarize the green synthesis of AgNPs as antibacterial agents, while other AgNPs-related insights (e.g., antibacterial mechanisms, potential toxicity, and medical applications) are also reviewed.

Abstract:Present review emphatically introduces the synthesis, biocompatibility, and applications of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), including their antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antifungal properties. A comprehensive discussion of various synthesis methods for AgNPs, with a particular focus on green chemistry mediated by plant extracts has been made. Recent research has revealed that the optical properties of AgNPs, including surface plasmon resonance (SPR), depend on the particle size, as well as the synthesis methods, preparation synthesis parameters, and used reducing agents. The significant emphasis on the use of synthesized AgNPs as antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antifungal agents in various applications has been reviewed. Furthermore, the application areas have been thoroughly examined, providing a detailed discussion of the underlying mechanisms, which aids in determining the optimal control parameters during the synthesis process of AgNPs. Furthermore, the challenges encountered while utilizing AgNPs and the corresponding advancements to overcome them have also been addressed. This review not only summarizes the achievements and current status of plant-mediated green synthesis of AgNPs but also explores the future prospects of these materials and technology in diverse areas, including bioactive applications.

Abstract:Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) synthesized from plant extracts have recently emerged as a rapidly growing field with numerous applications in pharmaceutical and clinical contexts. The purpose of this research is to come up with a novel method for the biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles that use Eucommia ulmoides leaf extract as a reducing agent. The synthesis of AgNPs was confirmed using UV-vis spectroscopy, and the properties of AgNPs were characterized using Transmission Electron Microscope, Fourier Infrared Spectrometer, X-ray diffraction, Thermogravimetric Analysis, and Zeta potential. The results showed that the AgNPs exhibited a characteristic absorption peak at 430 nm, their diameter ranged from 4 nm to 52 nm, and C, O, and Cl elements, which might represent flavonoids and phenolic components absorbed on the surface of AgNPs. The zeta potential of AgNPs was found to be -30.5 mV, which indicates repulsion among AgNPs and they have good dispersion stability. AgNPs have been found to suppress the tyrosinase activity both in mushroom tyrosinase and A375 cells, as well as diminish ROS formation in HaCat cells. According to this study, AgNPs is a novel material that can enhance skin health by preventing melanin development.

Abstract:Recently there have been a variety of methods to synthesize silver nanoparticles, among which the biosynthesis method is more noticeable due to features like being eco-friendly, simple, and cost-efficient. The present study aims for the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles from the extract of the three plants A . wilhelmsi, M . chamomilla, and C. longa ; moreover, it pledges to measure the antibacterial activity against some variants causing a skin rash. The morphology and size of the synthesized silver nanoparticles were evaluated by UV.vis, XRD, SEM, and FTIR analyses. Then results showed a color alteration from light yellow to dark brown and the formation of silver nanoparticles. The absorption peak with the wavelength of approximately 450 nm resulting from the Spectrophotometry analysis confirmed the synthesis of silver nanoparticles. The presence of strong and wide peaks in FTIR indicated the presence of OH groups. The SEM results showed that most synthesized nanoparticles had a spherical angular structure and their size was about 10 to 20 nm. The highest inhibition power was demonstrated by silver nanoparticles synthesized from the extract combined from all three species against Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis (23 mm) which had a performance far more powerful than the extract. Thus, it can be understood that the nanoparticles synthesized from these three species can act as potential environment-friendly alternatives to inhibit some variations causing skin disorders; an issue that calls for further clinical studies.

Abstract:Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have attracted increasing attention in nanomedicine, with versatile applications in drug delivery, antimicrobial treatments, and cancer therapies. While chemical synthesis remains a common approach for AgNP production, ensuring environmental sustainability requires a shift toward eco-friendly, "green" synthesis techniques. This article underscores the promising role of plant extracts in the green synthesis of AgNPs, highlighting the importance of their natural sources and diverse bioactive compounds. Various characterization methods for these nanomaterials are also reviewed. Furthermore, the anticancer potential of green AgNPs (Gr-AgNPs) is examined, focusing on their mechanisms of action and the challenges to their clinical implementation. Finally, future directions in the field are discussed.

Abstract:Due to their versatile applications, gold (Au) and silver (Ag) nanoparticles (NPs) have been synthesized by many approaches, including green processes using plant extracts for reducing metal ions. In this work, we propose to use plant extract with active biomedical components for NPs synthesis, aiming to obtain NPs inheriting the biomedical functions of the plants. By using leaves extract of Clerodendrum inerme (C. inerme) as both a reducing agent and a capping agent, we have synthesized gold (CI-Au) and silver (CI-Ag) NPs covered with biomedically active functional groups from C. inerme. The synthesized NPs were evaluated for different biological activities such as antibacterial and antimycotic against different pathogenic microbes (B. subtilis, S. aureus, Klebsiella, and E. coli) and (A. niger, T. harzianum, and A. flavus), respectively, using agar well diffusion assays. The antimicrobial propensity of NPs further assessed by reactive oxygen species (ROS) glutathione (GSH) and FTIR analysis. Biofilm inhibition activity was also carried out using colorimetric assays. The antioxidant and cytotoxic potential of CI-Au and CI-Ag NPs was determined using DPPH free radical scavenging and MTT assay, respectively. The CI-Au and CI-Ag NPs were demonstrated to have much better antioxidant in terms of %DPPH scavenging (75.85% ± 0.67% and 78.87% ± 0.19%), respectively. They exhibited excellent antibacterial, antimycotic, biofilm inhibition and cytotoxic performance against pathogenic microbes and MCF-7 cells compared to commercial Au and Ag NPs functionalized with dodecanethiol and PVP, respectively. The biocompatibility test further corroborated that CI-Ag and CI-Au NPs are more biocompatible at the concentration level of 1-50 µM. Hence, this work opens a new environmentally-friendly path for synthesizing nanomaterials inherited with enhanced and/or additional biomedical functionalities inherited from their herbal sources.

Abstract:The green synthesis of nanoparticles using plants and their extracts is considered as a representative approach in material syntheses for environmental benignity. Numerous metal nanoparticles with potential bioactivities have been prepared based on plant extracts. In this paper, we report an eco-friendly technique for the preparation of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using seed extract of Alpinia katsumadai, and the evaluation of their antioxidant, antibacterial, and cytotoxicity activities. UV-visible spectroscopy, FETEM, EDX, SAED, XRD, DLS and FT-IR analysis were used to characterize the morphology and crystalline phase of AgNPs. The FETEM and DLS analysis showed AgNPs were quasi-spherical in shape, with an average diameter of 12.6 nm for the size distribution. The SAED spectrum of the AgNPs indicated their crystalline nature, which was further confirmed by the XRD studies. The FT-IR spectra revealed that phytochemicals from Alpinia katsumadai seed extract act as a capping and reducing agent for AgNP formation. The AgNPs showed distinctive free radical scavenging, potent antibacterial activity against different types of bacteria, and cytotoxicity activities. The results confirmed that Alpinia katsumadai is a potential bio-resource/biomaterial for synthesizing AgNPs with applications in antibacterial and antioxidant agents.

Abstract:The development of simple, nontoxic and eco-friendly method for the preparation of nanoparticles is an important step in the field of nanotechnology. Among the metallic nanoparticles, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) gain much attention due to its chemical, physical and biological properties and applications.This review article discussed recent scientific publications in the green synthesis area of AgNPs and their applications. The plant extract, fungi algae and bacteria have ability to bio-reduction, formation and stabilizing the AgNPs. Various molecules (alkaloids, polysaccharides, alcoholic compounds, vitamins and amino acids) present in plant have ability to bio-reduction, formation and stabilization of AgNPs. In this study, synthesis application, properties and characterization using numerous techniques such as Transmission electron Microscope, X-ray diffraction analysis, UV–Visible spectroscopy, Scanning electron microscope, Dynamic light scattering, Atomice force spectroscopy, and Fourier transform infrared are discussed. The silver nanoparticles showed antibacterial activity against different bacteria and antibacterial activity is greatly affected by variation in size and shape of silver nanoparticles.

Abstract:Nano, Ahead of Print. There is a strong interest in using green resources for synthesizing nanoparticles (NPs) of industrial and biomedical utility in a way to maintain desired material properties throughout use while not inducing any harmful effects. The use of various plant extracts as reducing, capping, or stabilizing agents is widely attempted in green nanotechnology. However, very little has been explored about incorporating plant extract blends into green NP synthesis routes. Here, we used the combination of tea and olive leaf extracts for the synthesis of silver NPs and evaluated the advantages it provided over both chemical and single-plant-mediated synthesis routes. Four different reducing agents (tannic acid, black tea leaves extract, olive leaves extract and their blend) were used to synthesize silver NPs (Ag NP) from silver nitrate (AgNO[math]. The synthesized Ag NP was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), dynamic light scattering (DLS), and ultraviolet-visible (US-Vis) spectroscopy. The antimicrobial properties of Ag NP were assessed against Escherichia coli (E. Coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. Aureus) using the colony-forming unit (CFU) assay and the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) assay. The cytotoxic potential of Ag NP on human colorectal adenocarcinoma (Caco-2) cells was assessed by the WST-1 assay. Results showed that Ag NP synthesized using plant extract mixtures had a primary particle size of 40[math]nm and were very effective antibacterial agents, with the MIC values ranging from [math]g/mL to 10[math][math]g/mL. While the particle size obtained in chemical synthesis was slightly lower, the resultant Ag NP did not serve as an effective antibacterial agents at low doses. Further understanding of how best to integrate extracts of different plants into green NP synthesis routes will enable wider and safer biomedical applications.

Abstract:Green synthesis of metal nanoparticles (NPs) has received extensive attention over other conventional approaches due to their non-toxic nature and more biocompatibility. Herein we report gold and silver NPs (AuNPs@AV and AgNPs@AV) prepared by employing a green approach using crude extract of Aconitum violaceum Jacquem. ex Stapf. The synthesized NPs were characterized using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), UV/Visible spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), and Zeta Potential. Morphological analysis showed spherical and triangular shapes of the NPs with average size of <100 nm. The AuNPs@AV and AgNPs@AV exhibited effective antibacterial activities, with minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of 95 and 70 μg/mL against Lactobacillus acidophilus ( L. acidophilus ) and 90 and 65 μg/mL against Escherichia coli ( E. coli ), respectively. Strong antioxidant effect of AuNPs@AV and AgNPs@AV were reported against DPPH radical and PTIO within range of IC 50 values; 161–80 μg/ml as compared to the standard (23–11 μg/mL) respectively. Moreover, the AuNPs@AV and AgNPs@AV showed efficient photocatalytic activity and degraded 89.88% and 93.7% methylene blue (MB) dye under UV light, respectively.

Abstract:Abstract The synthesis of noble metal nanoparticles is currently experiencing substantial development and considerable attention. Plant extracts are commonly used for the biological synthesis of nanoparticles because they contain biologically active constituents. In our present study, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized using an aqueous Illicium verum (Star anise) extract to evaluate their antimicrobial, antioxidant, and cytotoxicity activities. For maximum yields of AgNPs, the extract (2.5 ml), silver ions (500 μM), and pH (8) were shown to be the ideal nanoparticle production parameters. The visual colour shifted from pale brown to dark brown when the ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer was used to validate the synthesis of AgNPs. A transmission electron microscope was utilized to evaluate nanoparticles’ physical nature. The presence of silver metal with face-centred cubic symmetry was confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy was used to identify the functional groups in charge of reducing silver ions (Ag + ) and the stability of AgNPs produced using the I. verum aqueous extract. The agar well diffusion method investigated the antibacterial activity of I. verum silver nanoparticles (Iv-AgNPs) against pathogenic bacteria and fungi. At higher doses (100 μg·mL −1 ), the highest zone of inhibition was observed, and spherical AgNPs demonstrated the antibacterial activity. The I. verum extract and Iv-AgNPs enhanced (70%) their free radical scavenging activity at 500 μg·mL −1 according to the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl assay. Moreover, the cytotoxicity of Iv-AgNPs against the HCT-116 human colon cancer cell line indicated cell inhibition in a dose-dependent manner. Ultimately, the findings of this study indicate that techniques used to produce AgNPs are environmental friendly, cost-effective, harmless, uncomplicated, and can effectively tackle a broad spectrum of medical and nutritional concerns.

Abstract:Biogenic synthesis of silver (AgNPs) and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) using aqueous extract of Euphrasia officinalis has been reported. Stable AgNPs and AuNPs were formed on adding aqueous solutions of silver nitrate and chloroauric acid with E. officinalis leaf extract, in 19 min and 2 min, respectively. The synthesis method used in present study was simple, reliable, rapid, cost effective and ecofriendly. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized with field emission transmission electron microscopy (FE-TEM), elemental mapping, selected area diffraction pattern (SAED), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffractometer (XRD), particle size distribution, zeta potential and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The UV-Vis spectrum confirmed the synthesis of nanoparticles as the absorption band was observed at 450 nm for AgNPs and at 558 nm for AuNPs. The TEM images revealed quasi-spherical shape of AgNPs and AuNPs. The size of nanoparticles was determined to be 40.37 ± 1.8 nm for AgNPs and 49.72 ± 1.2 nm for AuNPs. The zeta potential value demonstrated the negative surface charge and stable nature of nanoparticles. Crystalline nature of the nanoparticles in the face-centred cubic (fcc) structure was confirmed by the peaks in the XRD pattern and SAED pattern. FTIR results showed the functional groups involved in reduction of silver and gold ions to metal nanoparticles. For biomedical application, the nanoparticles have been explored for anticancer, antibacterial and biofilm inhibition activities. It was observed that AgNPs exert anticancer activity against human lung cancer (A549) and human cervical cancer (HeLa) cell lines. On the other hand, AuNPs were able to inhibit only human cervical cancer cells. Furthermore, the AgNPs were active against clinically isolated human pathogens like Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Vibrio parahaemolyticus. Additionally, AgNPs also showed biofilm inhibition activity against S. aureus and P. aeruginosa.

Abstract:Abstract Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) employing agricultural wastes as plant extracts to improve environmental benignity and also economic value added is the highlight of this research. The mature pseudostem of Alpinia nigra is an unbeneficial raw material discarded from several food ingredients and medicinal formulas. Therefore, this research focused on condition optimization for AgNP synthesis with ecofriendly techniques using A. nigra mature-pseudostem extracts and evaluation of their antioxidant, antibacterial activities, and toxicity with brine shrimp lethality assay (BSLA). The optimal reaction conditions were achieved by using 5 mM silver nitrate (AgNO 3 ) solution with a volume ratio of 2:8 for the extract to AgNO 3 at pH 12 under room temperature. The morphology and crystalline phase of the generated AgNPs were characterized using UV–visible spectrophotometry, field emission-scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray, X-ray diffraction, and Fourier transform-infrared (FTIR) techniques. The FE-SEM analysis exposed spherical shapes with an average diameter of approximately 49 nm. The XRD analysis indicated their face center cubic structure, and the FTIR spectra confirmed that phytochemicals from A. nigra extract promoted the synthesis of AgNPs. In particular, the biosynthesized AgNPs presented potential antibacterial activity against both Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli and effective antioxidant capacity using the DPPH radical scavenging assay. Additionally, non-toxic desired AgNPs were confirmed with BSLA.

Abstract:A facile synthesis and biological applications of silver (DH-AgNps) and gold nanoparticles (DH-AuNps) mediated by the aqueous extract of Angelicae Pubescentis Radix (Du Huo) are explored. Du Huo is a medicinal root belonging to Angelica pubescens Maxim which possesses anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antioxidant properties. The absorption spectra of nanoparticles in varying root extract and metal ion concentration, pH, reaction temperatures, and time were recorded by ultraviolet–visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy. The presence of DH-AgNps and DH-AuNps was confirmed from the surface plasmon resonance intensified at ~414 and ~540 nm, respectively. Field emission transmission electron micrograph (FE-TEM) analysis revealed the formation of quasi-spherical DH-AgNps and spherical icosahedral DH-AuNps. These novel DH-AgNps and DH-AuNps maintained an average crystallite size of 12.48 and 7.44 nm, respectively. The biosynthesized DH-AgNps and DH-AuNps exhibited antioxidant activity against 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrzyl (DPPH) radicals and the former exhibited antimicrobial activity against clinical pathogens including Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Salmonella enterica. The expected presence of flavonoids, sesquiterpenes, and phenols on the nanoparticle surface were conjectured to grant protection against aggregation and free radical scavenging activity. DH-AgNps and DH-AuNps were further investigated for their cytotoxic properties in RAW264.7 macrophages for their potential application as drug carriers to sites of inflammation. Abstract:Biosynthesized silver nanoparticles have attracted enormous interest due to the unique features of biosynthesis such as simplicity, cost-effectiveness, and free of organic solvents. Plant extracts are of great potential in the biosynthesis of metal nanoparticles due to their abundant availability, reducing activity and stabilizing ability. Here, the biosynthesis of AgNPs was accomplished at room temperature within 60 min with the extracts of Pyrus betulifolia Bunge branches, in which plant bioactives like phenols, proteins, and sugars acted as the reducing and capping agents for the AgNPs. The as-synthesized AgNPs were extensively characterized using UV–vis spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and Zetasizer. The maximum absorbance of UV–vis spectra appeared at 425 nm, a characteristic peak for AgNPs, indicating the successful formation of the nanoparticles. Further investigation with TEM showed that the as-synthesized AgNPs were uniform and spherical particles with an average size around 19.9 nm with the zeta potential of −18 mV. FTIR spectroscopy confirmed that various functional groups were responsible for reducing and stabilizing during the biosynthesis process. In addition, the antimicrobial activities of the as-synthesized AgNPs, determined with the agar diffusion method, demonstrated that the AgNPs were extremely effective against both bacteria and fungi. Furthermore, the as-prepared AgNPs showed excellent antioxidant activities with IC50 values of 14.3 μg/mL measured by detecting the scavenging ability of DPPH. The results from MTT and hemolysis assay also indicated that the prepared AgNPs are highly biocompatible, enabling such green synthesized AgNPs applicable in various areas.

Abstract:The synthesis of metal nanomaterials is a timely topic due to their widespread use in fields such as crop protection, the environment, medicine, and engineering. Green synthesis of nanoparticles, which uses plant extracts instead of industrial chemical agents to reduce metal ions, has been developed to decrease costs, reduce pollution, and improve environmental and human health safety. In this paper, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized from the flower extract of Jasminum nudiflorum. The green synthesized AgNPs were characterized by UV-Vis, FTIR, XRD, SEM, and other technologies. The antifungal activity of the prepared AgNPs against Alternaria longipes was tested using the plate method, the concentration dilution method, and other methods, and the antioxidant activity of the prepared AgNPs was evaluated by DPPH and hydroxyl free scavenging methods. The results showed that AgNPs synthesized from J. nudiflorum flower extract have a face-centered cubic structure (fcc), and the average grain size of the nanoparticles is 13 nm; they are also mainly spherical in shape. Additionally, the concentration of AgNPs (ranging from 16 to 128 μg/mL) significantly inhibited the mycelial growth of A. longipes in comparison to the control. The inhibitory rate gradually increased with increasing AgNP concentration, ranging from 70.64% to 79.60% at a concentration of 128 μg/mL. The minimum inhibitory concentration was observed at 32 μg/mL. AgNPs induced overaccumulation of MDA in A. longipes, resulting in cell membrane damage and nucleic acid leakage. Moreover, the AgNPs have significant antioxidant properties, which increase with increasing concentration. The clearance rate of DPPH was 25.46 ± 0.90% when the concentration of AgNPs was 8 μg/mL, and the clearance rate of the hydroxyl radical was 28.62 ± 0.59% when the concentration of AgNPs was 128 μg/mL. Thus, the flower extract from J. nudiflorum holds potential as an environmentally friendly and green alternative for the synthesis of AgNPs, which have antifungal and antioxidant potential.
