Research on Chemical Intermediates
Abstract:Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have received extensive attention, relying on the characteristic of porosity, high specific surface area and modifiability. Its semiconductor characteristics make it focus in the field of photocatalysis. Based on the classification of modification methods, this article summarized the recent researches on MOFs in the field of photocatalysis, including inner confinement metal nanoparticles, semiconductor composites and MOFs derivatives. The first two modifications aim to reduce the recombination of photogenerated electrons and holes by transferring them. The latter removes the partial ligand by calcination and retain the porous structure framework of MOFs, which improve the chemical stability of MOFs. Such MOF-based photocatalysts have been used in the fields of environmental pollution control and energy sustainable development.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper aims to explore the development and application of metal - organic framework materials (MOFs) in the field of photocatalysis. Specifically, the paper focuses on the research progress of improving the photocatalytic performance of MOFs through different modification methods, including internally confined metal nanoparticles, semiconductor composites, and MOFs derivatives. The paper mainly addresses the following issues: 1. **Reducing the recombination of photogenerated electron - hole pairs**: By internally confining metal nanoparticles and forming semiconductor composites, photogenerated electrons and holes can be effectively transferred, thereby reducing their recombination rate and improving photocatalytic efficiency. 2. **Improving the chemical stability of MOFs**: By removing some ligands through high - temperature calcination and retaining the porous structural framework of MOFs, the chemical stability of MOFs can be improved, making it more suitable for practical applications. 3. **Expanding the application fields of photocatalysis**: Based on the above - mentioned modification strategies, MOFs - based photocatalysts have been applied in fields such as environmental pollution prevention and control and sustainable energy development, such as organic matter degradation, heavy metal reduction, CO₂ reduction, and hydrogen production. By summarizing the research progress of MOFs in the field of photocatalysis in recent years, the paper shows the great potential and application prospects of MOFs as a new type of porous crystalline material in photocatalytic reactions. At the same time, the paper also points out some challenges currently faced by MOFs photocatalysis research, such as the optimization of the stability and light - response performance of photocatalysts, and presents an outlook on future research directions.
