Abstract:The article analyzes the main trends and prospects for the development of the global and Russian tea market. It reviews and analyzes the main directions of development of the tea market in the world, provides an international classification of black tea, shows the main countries manufacturers, importers and exporters of this product. The dynamics of tea production, import and export in the Russian Federation over five years showed in this article by using analytical indicators. Also were identified the main reasons for the changes and analyzed the leading players-producers of the domestic tea market, as well as showed the main trends characteristic of the development of this market in immediate prospects. The article considers the general structure of the tea market in natural terms and provides the results of analysis of changes in consumer preferences. Within the framework of the study, the assortment of the Perekrestok retail network was studied as a tool for forming and maintenance commodity stocks of this economic entity. ABC-analysis was used to analyze the assortment of black tea. Based on the results of the study, recommendations were developed and proposed for further work with the assortment of this product group.

Abstract:India's tea industry, a significant player in the global market, is poised for growth amidst evolving trade dynamics. This paper explores India's tea export potential by examining production, export trends, and competitiveness on a global scale. In 2022, global tea production reached 6,422 million kilograms, with China and India being the largest producers, while Kenya led in exports. India, the second-largest producer and fourth-largest exporter, shipped tea worth approximately USD 706 million, primarily to the UAE, Iraq, Russia, the USA, and the UK. Methodologically, this study utilizes a gravity model with PPML estimation to analyze India's tea exports to 173 trading partners from 2004 to 2021, addressing zero trade observations. Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) and Revealed Symmetric Comparative Advantage (RSCA) indices are employed to assess competitiveness, revealing an upward trend in India's comparative advantage. Transitional probabilities provide insights into shifting trade patterns, indicating significant market instability in countries like Germany and the UK. The analysis also includes estimation results highlighting the impact of GDP, geographical distance, population, and other factors on India's tea exports. Results demonstrate that India has considerable potential to expand tea exports to 118 countries, with high prospects in Uzbekistan, the USA, France, Hong Kong, and Italy. Current export strategies focus on saturated markets, underscoring the need to explore untapped regions to maximize trade opportunities. This study highlights the necessity for India to diversify its export destinations to enhance its global trade footprint and leverage its growing competitiveness in the tea sector.
Export and import trends of Russia’ steel products in 2017–2018

Abstract:Analysis of main indices of world steel industry presented, as well as those of some countries and of Russia for 2017– 2018. Dynamics and structure of production, consumption, export and import of main kinds of Russian steel industry products by results of 2018. In 2018 growth of world consumption amounted to near 80 Mt to the level of 2017, the main input made by Asian region. Its share amounted to near 90% of the growth, mainly by China. Excluding China, the Asian region amounted to 13% of the growth. Russia takes the 7th place in the world rating by steel consumption in 2018, by consumption per capita – the 16th position. In 2018 in Russia, 71.8 Mt of steel were produced, amounting to 6th place in the world rating. By results of 2018 Russian plants increased production of steel, finished rolled products and steel pipes comparing with 2017. The volumes of world trading by steel products keep growing. The world export by volume is estimated as 454.5 Mt. Countries with the biggest share of steel export of production volume presented. By the results of 2018 the steel industry of Russia is still export-oriented industry and keeps the 5th position among countries with the highest share of steel products export in the production and the 3rd place by the volumes of export shipping. During the last years the Russia’ external trade by ferrous metals is characterized by increase of export and import volumes. Structure of Russian finished rolled products export and import presented, as well as geography of supplies. The share of import rolled products in the domestic consumption amounted to about 14%. Main countries – net exporters and net importers of steel products presented. Russia being a net importer on the whole, takes the 3rd position by volumes. However, during several years by some groups of rolled products, Russia is a net importer. The domestic market is surely a key one for Russian plants. Howeve, the Russian plant not always manage to compete with cheaper import. Besides, some kinds of products are produced in insufficient volumes.

Abstract:In all aspects of tea, production, consumption and export, India has emerged to be the world leader, mainly because it accounts for 27% of global production. It is perhaps the only industry where India has retained its leadership over the last 150 years. Tea is the major beverage in the country. In spite of low per capita consumption, almost three fourth of the total produce accounts for the domestic consumption and the annual consumption is increasing at the rate of 2.7%. Tea industry continues to be an important foreign exchange earner with a net foreign exchange earning of around Rs. 1847 crores annually. However, for last couple years, this $1.5 billion industry of India is under recession. The causes of such recession in this industry are discussed and some remedial measures are suggested. R&D activity on this crop, in India, is mainly concentrated in four different organizations of which, Tocklai Experimental Station has so far evolved many improved tea cultivars 30 TV (Tocklai Vegetative) clones, 150 garden senies clone and 14 biclonal seed stocks. The tea drinking culture of Indian, as well as, the festivals of the tea growing community are also discussed in this investigation. This article is prepared with the objective of giving its reader an overview of the Indian Tea Industry.

Abstract:Since world market economies are dynamic, the responsiveness of export quantities to changes in international prices is of direct relevance in international economics. India has 12% share of world tea exports and is the seventh largest coffee producer in the world (2013–2014). This study analyses the exports and price growth rates, elasticity, instability and major global markets for Indian tea and coffee. The study was based on 24 years agricultural time-series data from 1990–1991 to 2012–2013. The study found that elasticity for coffee and tea was 61.4 and 13.5%, respectively. The destinations which account for the major share of exports for Indian tea are developed countries including Australia (18.7%), Russia (17.3%), and the United States (15.9%) and for coffee are Italy (28.7%), Germany (13.8%), and Belgium (7.6%). Based on an analysis of individual country elasticity and growth rates, India has comparative advantage to export to the Middle East, Europe, the United States, and Australia.

Abstract:Indonesia as a tea exporter in the world has not maximized tea export opportunities as indicated by the decline in the value of tea exports from 2016 to 2020. This study aims to further analyze the competitiveness of Indonesian tea exports to major importing countries and predict the value of exports that will occur until 2025. This study used time series data from 2001-2020 which was analyzed with Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) and Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA). The results of the analysis show that the competitiveness of Indonesian tea exports to the main destination countries, namely Russia, Malaysia, China, Taiwan, and the United States, does not have a comparative advantage (RCA<1). However, based on forecasting results, the value of tea exports to Russia, Malaysia, and China is expected to increase until 2025. This increase in tea export value also has an impact in the form of strengthening the competitiveness of Indonesian tea exports in these countries even though the RCA index value is smaller than one. Thus, although the competitiveness of Indonesian tea exports is still weak in destination countries, Indonesia can optimize tea exports to countries that have increased competitiveness, such as Russia, Malaysia, and China.

Abstract:Abstract. The purpose of the study is to assess the current trends in export deliveries of grain and products of its processing, to identify opportunities and conditions for increasing the export potential of high value-added products. The main research methods were economic-statistical, tabular, graphical, comparative with subsequent generalization of data. The information base included materials from the Federal State Statistics Service of the Russian Federation, the Federal Customs Service of Russia, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, as well as analytical reports and reports in the field of international trade in grain crops and current regulations. The scientific novelty of the study is to substantiate the feasibility and develop recommendations for increasing the production of grain processing products, substituting import supplies and expanding the export of high value-added products to the world market in the face of increased economic sanctions. The results are as follows: the place of Russia in the world market was analyzed in terms of gross yields and exports of grain crops, wheat, as a raw material for the production of final products; assessed the country's prospects for the export of grain, taking into account the instability of geopolitical and trade and economic cooperation; the volumes and structure of grain consumption in Russia are considered, the dynamics of production and export-import operations for grain processing products are studied; deterrents were identified in expanding the export potential of grain processing products, lost profits from the export of raw materials, and not finished products; recommendations are offered on priority areas that contribute to the growth in the volume of export-oriented products of grain processing, including deep processing. The high level of self-sufficiency in raw materials, the low utilization of production capacities of the food and processing industry, the ratio of export, import and domestic prices for grain processing products indicate the existing opportunities for redirecting part of the carry-over stocks and export volumes of grain for processing, import substitution and further export.

Abstract:According to a report published by the International Organisation of Vine and Wine, the main global trends are shrinking vineyards, reduced wine production, and declining wine consumption. The article analyses the wine industry of countries around the world for the period 2012-2021. The main wine-producing regions of the world are highlighted, and industry trends are reflected. The aim of the paper is to analyse the wine industry of the countries of the world for the period 2012-2021, the indicators that characterise the state and dynamics of the wine industry: the area of vine plantations, the volume of grape production, wine consumption, international trade in grapes and wine. The author used the following methods for the study: abstract-logical (for theoretical generalisation of research and justification of conclusions); calculative-constructive and comparative (for analysis of the current state of development of the industry); statistical-economic (to study the dynamics of grape production and wine consumption). Special attention is given to the specific features of the wine industry in the Russian Federation: history of its development, wine-producing regions, and constraints. The measures aimed at the development of the wine industry in the Russian Federation are proposed. It has been established that the wine market in Russia is showing a gradual increase in the interest of domestic consumers in the product. Russian consumers are becoming more educated about wine culture and more demanding about the quality of wine drinks. Domestic winemaking is actively developing thanks to state support, and international sanctions have only served to stimulate growth and encourage consumers to become more familiar with Russian winemaking. Retailers are increasing the number of domestic drinks in the matrix. The Russian domestic wine market is attractive to investors due to its volume and development prospects. In the next 10 years, the Russian wine market is expected to grow by 2-3 times.
Tendencies of Russia steel products export and import in 2017–2018

Abstract:Russia is a big producer and exporter of ferrous metals. Countries of CIS, Europe, Middle East, North Africa and North America are the main markets of Russian ferrous metallurgy products sale. Main indices of Russian steel industry operation quoted. Tendencies in external trade by steel products considered. Dynamics of steel products export and import in 2017–2018 shown. Average prices of export and import operations quoted, as well as data on consumption, the structure of Russian steel products export and import presented by main regions and kinds of rolled products. It was shown, that the structure of the Russian steel products export remains the same within a series of years and is characterized by a high share of semi-products. In the first half of 2018 the steel rolled products export growth was about 4%. Intensive development of steel industry in many countries of the world, particularly in those being net importers of steel products, as well as sanctions against steel products of Russian origin from EC and USA countries will impact on the volume of steel products export from Russia. Internal consumption of steel rolled products has grown in Russia. The increased demand is satisfied by an increase of domestic production, some decrease of export and growth of import. To maintain the competiveness of Russian steel industry at both domestic and international markets it is necessary to continue the modernization of plants, to provide the domestic demand from the steel-consuming industries side.

Abstract:The article is devoted to the search for opportunities to expand agrifood export potential of the Russian Federation in the rapidly changing landscape of global development. Despite the improved country’s position in the ranking of the world’s main food exporters at the end of 2020, there are a number of problems that hinder the achievement of the ambitious goal, set by the President in 2018 — the supply of agricultural products to the world market, equivalent to 45 billion dollars by 2025. Among these are: limited production opportunities for increasing exports while saturating the domestic market, inadequacy of the methodology for calculating the self-sufficiency ratio with the status of Russia as a food-exporting country, traditionally and mainly raw materials and grain export orientation, not corresponding to the actual capabilities of the Russian agroindustrial complex high expectations of an increase in supplies to the Chinese market, an increase in domestic food prices in retail and, as a result, a deterioration in food security in terms of economic availability for the population. The author put forward a proposal to revise the methodological approach to the assessment of the food self-sufficiency ratio and the subsequent determination of export product groups and the corridor of maximum permissible exports for them. It is concluded that export restrictions are justifi ed only for those commodity groups for which food independence has not been achieved. The need to diversify the export supply through the creation of a new commodity mass with added value produced on the territory of Russia is noted. The article emphasizes the principality of creating the food image of Russia as a producer of environmentally friendly safe products, and performing advertising campaigns when entering the Chinese market.

Abstract:Among other countries of the world, Russia is one of the crucial subjects of the world market for fruit and berry produce. The objects of this market are numerous types of fruits, berries, and nuts. Most of them have been known to man since ancient times and have been in international trade since the first civilizations. The kiwi, for example, was cultivated relatively recently and did not appear on the world market until the second half of the 20th century. The development of technologies for the production, storage, processing, and transportation of fruit and berry produce and foreign economic liberalization increased both global gross harvests of fruits, berries and nuts, and the corresponding parameters of their export and import. These trends have significantly intensified in the last thirty years. By the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations’ statistics (FAO) of 1992–2019, the authors analyzed the changed volumes of production, export, and import of fruit and berry produce in the world as a whole, as well as in individual leading countries. A change in the positions of some countries, including Russia, was revealed in the global rankings on gross harvest, exports, and imports. Although in 2019, our country ranked only the 31st in the world in terms of fruit and berry production, Russia is one of the world’s largest importers of fruits, berries, and nuts. For example, in 2003–2014 it followed the USA and Germany by this indicator. In 2014–2018 it was the fourth country. In 2019, Russia moved to fifth place in this rating of the leading importers of fruit and berry produce. In 2020, FAO declared 2021 the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables. In this regard, the stated problem of identifying our country’s place in the world market for fruit and berry produce is very relevant both from the point of view of its participation in global production volumes and the parameters of international trade in these types of goods.

The paper concludes with recommendations for stakeholders to enhance the growth and sustainability of the Indian tea industry.

Abstract:Abstract The paper focuses on the urgent problem caused by changes in the structure of Russian exports in the context of instability and negative dynamics of energy prices. The paper studies Russian exports of the main types of vegetable oils (sunflower, rapeseed, and soybean). The authors analyze the dynamics and product and territorial structures of exports for 2014-2019, relying on domestic and international data. The paper identifies current trends and assesses risks, opportunities, and prospects for domestic exporters. Based on the analysis and review of the secondary literature on the problems of exporting AIC products and trends in world food markets, the authors highlight the main threats for exporters of vegetable oils, focusing on the most capacious Asian markets. The research results may be of interest to the scientific community, students, and graduate students. The results can also be used when assessing export potentials of other member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union, or when making managerial decisions on the structure and direction of exports, as well as on measures to support export activities.

Abstract:Today the basis of exports from Russia are goods of the fuel and energy group. However, due to the instability of prices in the oil and gas markets, as well as the spreading policy of introducing environmentally friendly energy sources around the world, there is a need to diversify Russian exports and shift them towards non-commodity goods. The key task set by the President of the Russian Federation V. V. Putin before the Government of the Russian Federation is to ensure a breakthrough growth in the export of goods with high added value, including the achievement by 2030 of 70% of the share of non-primary sector goods in total exports from Russia. In this article, the author considers the top 20 groups of high value added goods exported by Russia to the world market, separately considers the lists of high value products supplied to the EAEU and BRICS countries, compares Russia's global exports with supplies to the EAEU and BRICS countries. By applying the Balassa index, an assessment of the comparative advantage of Russia in terms of commodity items, identified by the author as a priority for the initial release to new markets, is given. Based on the data obtained, the author draws conclusions about the prospects for the export of upper value added goods to new markets in Russia, including the identification of specific product groups, the export of which can be expanded.

Abstract:India has acquired an exalted status on the global tea map. The country is the second largest tea producer in the world. Interestingly, india is also the world's largest consumer of black tea with the domestic market consuming 911 million kg of tea during 2013-14.the export earnings from plantation crops like coffee and tea played a significant role in financing indian development. Production of tea reached 1,233.14 million kg in 2017-18 from 878.65 million kg in 2008-09 with a compound growth rate of 2.86 % during 2017-2018. India tea export recorded a compound growth rate of 1.22 % during 2017-2018, where import recorded a compound growth rate of 0.78 % during 2017-2018.

Abstract:Despite the high potential of agricultural production and the fact that Russia is among the world leaders in the production of some agricultural products, today Russia often tops the rankings of the world’s leading importers rather than exporters. While earlier the main task was to meet domestic demand, now it is generally possible to speak about the solution of the food security problem in Russia. One of the key areas of the long-term strategy for the development of agro-industrial complex is the creation of conditions for the development of exports and the expansion of the structure of exported goods. The purpose of the study is to analyze the current level and trends in the development of agricultural exports, as well as to analyze key methods and priority directions of its state support. As a result of the analysis of the current level and trends in the development of agricultural exports, the main export products and main buyers were identified, the growth of agricultural exports was shown, the geography of agricultural exports was specified, measures of state support were identified. The main problems impeding the expansion of export potential of domestic agricultural production in modern conditions are as follows: poor competitiveness of exported agricultural products, insufficient level of knowledge and experience of agricultural producers to carry out export activities, shortcomings in the registration and certification of products, strict phytosanitary supervision, insufficient financing for the development of export potential. Having studied trends in the development of exports of agricultural products of the Russian Federation, its potential and opportunities for expansion were proved. For this purpose, the federal project “Export of agricultural products” was adopted and implemented. The following areas of state support for agricultural exports are defined as efficient ones: concessional lending, compensation of costs for transportation of products, compensation of costs for certification of products, support of oil crops production. It should be taken into account that the support is provided by means of financial and non-financial instruments, the list of which is constantly updated in accordance with the requests of service recipients.

Abstract:Currently, tea, coffee, cocoa and food products, basically produced using this agricultural raw material, to one degree or another, are an important part of the diet of the population of almost all countries of the world. At the same time, these types of pro- ducts have not only nutritional value, but also, in the recommended consumption rates, have an invigorating and curative effect on the human body, and also occupy a special significance in the culture and traditions of some peoples, moreover, very numerous. Despite the fact that these three plants have a different history of origin and initial use in ancient states, the period of colonialism had a serious impact on the spread in other regions and countries of the world both the production and consumption of these types of plant products. In the process of research, based on the use of statistics from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) during 1961–2019 years tendencies of changes in gross harvests of tea, green grain coffee and cocoa beans in the world as a whole, as well as the physical volumes of their international trade in export and import were considered. In general, the global circulation of tea, coffee, cocoa, starting with the cultivation of these plants, the production of appropriate raw materials for their subsequent transformation into food products, and ending with their use as drinks, including within the framework of the established traditions of specific peoples, has a very deep significance in the life of our civilization. In particular, recognizing the long history of tea cultivation and its deep cultural and economic significance, both in terms of production and consumption, the UN General Assembly proclaimed in May 21, 2021, International Tea Day, calling on FAO to lead and organize related events.

India’s Tea Export in the Scenario of Trade Openness: An Analysis of Trend and Structural Break

Abstract:India is one of the largest tea producers and consumers in the world. Around 70% of Indian tea is consumed by domestic consumers. The world famous Darjeeling and Assam tea are India’s pride. Once India was the top exporter of tea in the global market, currently, it is lagging behind China, Kenya, and Sri Lanka. In the global arena, Indian tea is facing stiff competition from China, Kenya, and Sri Lanka. With this backdrop, the present study aims to investigate twin objectives. First, the changing growth pattern of India’s tea export is investigated. Along with this, the impacts of trade openness on India’s tea export are also scrutinized. The entire study is conducted based on the secondary data, compiled from the various issues of Handbook of Statistics on Indian Economy published by Reserve Bank of India. The data are compiled for the period 1987–1988 to 2018–2019. The investigation of the first objective is facilitated by the Poirer’s Spline function approach. On the contrary, for the exploration of the second objective, we have calculated the “trade openness index.” The study concludes that initially with trade openness Indian tea industry was benefitting but the growth rate of tea export gets reduced over time. It is surprising that in the post-EXIM-2002–2007 phase the rate of growth of India’s tea exports has declined sharply. The study ends with suitable policy prescriptions.
The potential of China's tea trade and how it affects China's economic growth

Abstract:Tea is an essential commodity for China's agriculture trade, which faces fierce competition in the global tea trade. The export share of tea in China has a smaller proportion than other products, which means that it can influence on the economic growth or otherwise. This study aims to examine the potential destination countries for China's tea trade in the international market and its impact on economic growth. In this study, the panel-based gravity model was applied by identifying the potential destination countries for tea by using data of bilateral trade between China and 78 importing countries from 2010 to 2020. The Autoregressive Distributive Lag (ARDL) from 1991 to 2020 was used to evaluate the effect of China's tea export on economic growth. The result confirmed that 39 countries were identified as a potential destination for China's tea trade. A positive and significant effect of the tea trade on the country's economic growth in the long and short run was also found, particularly through export activity. China needs to increase the production of tea and to establish relations with the identified potential destination countries for tea exports in order to achieve a higher level of economic growth.

Abstract:In modern conditions of constantly arising global economic risks, which sharply affect the development of world commodity markets, the role of developing its non-resource exports is increasingly becoming more visible in strengthening the economy of the Russian Federation. This study poses a question and proposes a scenario for improving the country's balance of payments based on increase in Russian food exports. The importance and necessity of solving this issue is reflected in the Message of the President of the Russian Federation of February 20, 2019 and his instructions to the Government of the country. In this regard, the purpose of the study was to consider and forecast possible scenarios for the implementation of approved plans for the development of agricultural exports. Achieving this goal several interrelated tasks had been solved: 1) identifying the ratio of export and import of agricultural products in the Russian Federation; 2) analysis the structure of export agricultural products; 3) forecasting the real possibilities of achieving the target indicators for the export of agricultural products, as well as the processing and food industries; 4) the proposal of options for improving the system of state regulation of agricultural exports or its elements. The result of the study was the confirmation of hypothesis that state regulation of agricultural exports is, in general, effective.
