Abstract:The marine biology investigation and research activities in our country from 1990 to now have made remarkable changes, especially there have been changes in thinking, scale, content, level as well as research skills. research and international relations in research. We have actively overcome the limitation of general, preliminary and undirected investigation, to gradually shift to new thinking about research. The scope of research extends to the entire marine to even deep-water areas such as Truong Sa and Hoang Sa. Focusing on studying the causes of formation, Trending of fluctuations, the mechanism of action of marine processes, proceeding to study the basis of the application of technology creating new technologies to solve the problems in practice. So there have been outstanding results compared to the previous time. It has been identified that there is a high level of biodiversity in the sea of Vietnam with about 12,000 marine species and 134 species recorded in the Vietnam Red Book, but the structure of biodiversity and marine resources of our country is also very sensitive and vulnerable. Also, nearly 20 specific ecological systems and sub-systems have been identified in the sea and coastal areas; Seafood reserves of nearly 4 million tons are an important basis for developing eco-tourism, fishing and aquaculture. Caused by economic activities many threats to marine biodiversity: shrinking the area of ecosystems; decrease in density, number of species and reserve of resources; degrading the value of the ecosystem; habitat degradation within the ecosystem. Basic solutions for conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and marine resources include: institutional and policy solutions; strengthen the construction of conservation zones, artificial reefs and areas where exploitation is prohibited from time to time; sustainable exploitation and sustainable cultivation of marine biological resources; sustainable marine economic development.
