Abstract:BACKGROUND:The past 20 yr have seen significant growth in China's role in the international community. This same growth and international presence is occurring in the field of anesthesiology. The research status in anesthesiology among Chinese individuals in the 3 major regions of China--mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan--is unknown. We analyzed articles published in peer-reviewed international anesthesiology journals cited by both PubMed and Science Citation Index from these 3 regions.METHODS:Articles published in 21 journals in anesthesiology originating from mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong from 1999 to 2008 were retrieved from the PubMed database and the Science Citation Index. The number of total articles, clinical trials, randomized controlled trials, impact factors, citations, and articles published in "high-impact" journals were tabulated to assess both the quantity and quality of research arising from China.RESULTS:From 1999 to 2008 there were 721 articles published in high-impact anesthesiology journals from China, including 204 from mainland China, 317 from Taiwan, and 200 from Hong Kong. The number of articles published each year increased from 50 published in 1999 to 101 published in 2008. From 2005 onward, the number of articles published from mainland China exceeded that from Hong Kong and in 2008 mainland China exceeded Taiwan. The average impact factor of the articles was similar for mainland China (2.84), Taiwan (2.41), and Hong Kong (2.16). The total citations to articles from Taiwan (2376) exceeded citations to articles from mainland China (1143) and Hong Kong (1540). Anesthesia & Analgesia published more articles than any other journal from all 3 regions.CONCLUSION:The total number of articles from China published in highly cited anesthesiology journals increased markedly from 1999 to 2008, with articles from mainland China increasing substantially after 2004, whereas the number of publications from Hong Kong decreased. The average impact factor was similar for all 3 regions, ranging from 2.2 to 2.8. Anesthesia & Analgesia published more articles from Chinese authors from all 3 regions than any other journal.

Abstract:Significant growth has been seen in the field of anaesthesiology in recent decades. The current geographic distribution of the publications on anaesthesia research may be different from ten years ago. We performed this literature survey to examine the national origin of articles published in international anaesthesiology journals and to evaluate their contribution to anaesthesia research. Articles published in 18 major anaesthesiology journals from 2000 to 2009 were identified from the PubMed database and the Science Citation Index. A total of 30,191 articles were published in the selected 18 journals from 2000 to 2009. The country responsible for the largest number of articles was the United States of America (29.4%), followed by the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Canada, Australia and France. Denmark, Switzerland and Finland had the largest number of articles per capita. Anesthesia & Analgesia published the most number of articles from 2000 to 2009, followed by Anesthesiology, Pain and the British Journal of Anaesthesia. The numbers of clinical studies and randomised controlled trials decreased markedly from 2000 to 2009.
Statistical Analysis of Articles Published and Authors of Chinese Journal of Digestive Surgery from 2002 to 2012

Abstract:Objective To investigate the academic level and influence of the Chinese Journal of Digestive Surgery from the point of articles published and the authors.Methods The articles and authors of Chinese Journal of Digestive Surgery from 2002 to 2012 were retrieved from the Wanfang database and the China National Knowledge Internet database.The full texts were browsed and saved,and then the data were input to Excel for bibliometric analysis.Results There were 1917 articles were published in the Chinese Journal of Digestive Surgery during the past 11 years,and the average number of articles per issue was 29.05.The rate of articles with funded projects was 30.62％,and the citation rate was 58.52％.Authors were from 32 provinces,municipalites and Hong Kong.The numbers of articles contributed by authors from Chongqing,Beijing and Shanghai ranked top 3,which were 446(23.27％),240(12.52％) and 203(10.59％),and followed by authors from Sichuan,Jiangshu and Guandong.The number of articles from affiliated hospitals of Medical Schools was 1382 (72.09％).The cooperation rate was 4.37,and the coauthor rate was 90.03％.Conclusions Chinese Journal of Digestive Surgery is an academic journal with high quality and strong influence.The distribution of authors of the Chinese Journal of Digestive Surgery is wide,and the cooperative rate of authors is high,while the distribution of authors is disproportionate.

Abstract:The scientific publications in anesthesiology research from East Asian authors have not been reported yet. The present study was designed to analyze the contribution of articles from East Asia to anesthesiology research. Articles published in 17 journals in anesthesiology originating from Japan, China, and South Korea from 2000 to 2009 were retrieved from the PubMed database and Web of Science. From 2000 to 2009, there were 3,076 articles published from East Asia. During this period, there were a notable decrease in publications from Japan and modest increases in publications from both China and South Korea. The average 5-year impact factor of the published articles was similar among the three regions, and China had the highest average number of citations to each article. Anesthesia & Analgesia published more articles than any other journal from all three regions. Our analysis showed that Japan was the most productive region in East Asia, but there was a notable decrease in publications from Japan in 2000–2009. The impact factor of the articles suggests similar levels of scholarship. Anesthesia & Analgesia was the most popular journal in East Asia.
Academic Publication of Anesthesiology From a Bibliographic Perspective From 1999 to 2018: Comparative Analysis Using Subject-Field Dataset and Department Dataset

Abstract:Background: Publication activity in the field of anesthesiology informs decisions that enhance academic advancement. Most previous bibliometric studies on anesthesiology examined data limited to journals focused on anesthesiology rather than data answerable to authors in anesthesia departments. This study comprehensively explored publication trends in the field of anesthesiology and their impact. We hypothesized that anesthesiology's bibliometric scene would differ based on whether articles in the same study period were published in anesthesiology-focused journals or were produced by authors in anesthesia departments but published in non-specialty journals. Methods: This cross-sectional study used bibliometric data from the Science Citation Index Expanded database between 1999 and 2018. Two datasets were assembled. The first dataset was a subject-dataset (articles published in 31 journals in the anesthesiology category of InCites Journal Citation Reports in 2018); the second dataset was the department-dataset (articles published in the Science Citation Index Expanded by authors in anesthesia departments). We captured the bibliographical record of each article in both datasets and noted each article's Institute for Scientific Information code, publication year, title, abstract, author addresses, subject category, and references for further study. Results: A total of 69,593 articles were published—cited 1,497,932 times—in the subject-dataset; a total of 167,501 articles were published—cited 3,731,540 times—in the department-dataset. The results demonstrate differences between the two datasets. First, the number of articles was stagnant, with little growth (average annual growth rate = 0.31%) in the subject-dataset; whereas there was stable growth (average annual growth rate = 4.50%) in articles in the department-dataset. Second, only 30.4% of anesthesia department articles were published in anesthesiology journals. Third, journals related to “pain” had the lowest department-subject ratio, which was attributable to a large portion of non-anesthesia department researchers' participation in related research. Conclusions: This study showed that articles published in anesthesiology-focused and non-specialty journals demonstrate fundamentally different trends. Thus, it not only helps researchers develop a more comprehensive understanding of the current publication status and trends in anesthesiology, but also provides a basis for national academic organizations to frame relevant anesthesiology development policies and rationalize resource allocation.

China's Contribution to Anesthesiology Research: A 10-Year Survey of the Literature.

Abstract:BACKGROUND:Anesthesiology has advanced in China over the past decade. We compared the trends in publication of anesthesiology articles from China between 2005 and 2014 with the trends in 5 developed countries. METHODS:We included all journals listed in the ''Anesthesiology'' category of Journal Citation Reports. Anesthesiology-related publications from 2005 to 2014 were retrieved from the PubMed and Web of Knowledge online databases. The total number of articles, publication type categories, number of citations, and citation rate (number of citations/years since publication) were analyzed. The sample size was the n = 10 years for all confidence intervals and P values. We additionally evaluated the total number of articles published in the 10 top-ranking journals. RESULTS:From 2005 to 2014, 41,344 articles were published in anesthesiology journals. Of these, 3.07% were contributed by authors from Chinese institutions. Although this contribution was less than the Unites States, Great Britain, Germany, France, or Japan, publications from Chinese institutions grew at an annual rate of 13% (95% confidence interval: 3.08%-23.38%, P < 0.001, r = 0.903). Chinese institutions produced relatively more basic research reports than clinical investigations. China ranked before Great Britain (221 articles) and France (245 articles) in basic research, with 448 basic researches publications during the study period. The articles from China averaged 2.24 citations per year, comparable to the articles from the United States (2.71, P = 0.545), Great Britain (2.57, P = 0.999), Germany (2.35, P = 0.999), France (1.50, P = 0.520), and Japan (1.24, P = 0.065). In the 10 highest impact anesthesiology journals, China published 780 articles during the decade. The 3 journals with the most publications from Chinese institutions were Anesthesia & Analgesia, Anesthesiology, and Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica. CONCLUSIONS:In the studied decade, anesthesiology research published by Chinese institutions lagged behind publications from developed countries. There was a steady increase in the number of articles every year, resulting in recent rates of publication similar to several developed countries. The citation rate of articles from Chinese institutions was similar to the citation rate of articles from developed countries, indicating that the quality of articles from China in these journals is comparable to the quality from developed countries.

Abstract:The research projects sponsored by grants provided by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the articles published in the journals indexed for Science Citation Index in the field of anesthesiology from 1999 to 2009 were collected and analyzed with respect of the number, classification, impact factors etc. It has been found that the number of the grants and the articles were steadily increasing. The researches were mainly confined to the mechanism of anesthesia, pain and organ protection.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: In the past 20 years, anesthesiology has become one of the most advanced specialties and has undergone rapid development. However, public awareness regarding anesthesiology and anesthesiologists is limited, especially in developing countries. It is important for anesthesiologists to make the public aware of their role during surgery. Therefore, a nationwide survey was set up to investigate public awareness of anesthesiology and anesthesiologists in China.METHOD: A cross-sectional nationwide survey was performed from June 2018 to June 2019 in 34 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions across China and an overseas region. The questionnaires of the survey were divided into 2 main parts: general items and research items. General items included the demographic characteristics of the participants; research items consisted of 10 questions about the public's awareness of anesthesiologists and anesthesiology. Data quality control was undertaken by the investigation committee throughout the survey process.RESULTS: The nationwide survey enrolled 1,001,279 participants (male, 40.7%). We found that most of the participants regarded anesthesiologists as doctors. However, public knowledge of anesthesiologists' work and duties during surgery was quite low, with correct response rate ranging from 16.5% to 52.9%, and anesthesiologist responsibilities were often mistakenly attributed to surgeons or nurses. It is disappointing that more than half of participants still thought that, once the patient fell asleep after receiving anesthetics, the anesthesiologist could leave the operating room. Finally, the correct response rate was positively correlated with the economic levels of the regions.CONCLUSIONS: Public awareness regarding anesthesiology and anesthesiologists in China remains inadequate. Due to the biases and characteristics of the participants, the actual situation of the general Chinese public is likely even worse than reflected here. Therefore, extensive measures should be undertaken to improve public knowledge of anesthesiology and anesthesiologists.

Global Research Trends in Perioperative Care for the Elderly: a Bibliometric and Visualized Study

Abstract:Purpose Aged surgical patients are at a relatively higher risk of morbidity and mortality than younger surgical patients. The present study aimed to investigate the trends and research status of perioperative care for the elderly in the anesthesiology field. Methods We screened manuscripts published between May 31, 1991, and May 31, 2020, from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). A clustered network was derived from all references cited in all of the included manuscripts. The top authors, journals, institutions, countries, keywords, co-cited articles, and trends were identified through bibliometric analysis and visualization using CiteSpace 5.8.R3 and VOSviewer 1.6.15. Results We included a total of 1860 manuscripts published between 1991 and 2020. The number of publications on perioperative care for the elderly sharply increased from 2014 onwards. The United States of America and the University of California, San Francisco were the leading publication country (24.8%, 461/1860) and institution (2.6%, 48/1860), respectively. High-frequency keywords in cluster analysis included the type of anesthesia, postoperative pain management, postoperative cognitive dysfunction, and postoperative delirium, indicating postoperative cognitive dysfunction and postoperative delirium remain the focus areas for research in perioperative care for the elderly. Organ function protection was the new research focus according to the burst detection analysis of top keywords. Conclusions The number of studies on perioperative care for the elderly has increased apparently worldwide. Postoperative cognitive dysfunction and postoperative delirium remain primary research focus areas. Organ function protection appears to be the second most highly researched topic in the perioperative care for the elderly.
High-impact papers in the field of anesthesiology: a 10-year cross-sectional study

Abstract:Purpose This study was performed to evaluate trends in and provide future direction for anesthesiology education, research, and clinical practice. Methods We collected high-impact papers, ranking in the top 10% in the field of anesthesiology and published from 2011 to 2020, by the InCites tool based on the Web of Science Core Collection. We analyzed the trends, locations, distribution of subject categories, research organizations, collaborative networks, and subject terms of these papers. Results A total of 4,685 high-impact papers were included for analysis. The number of high-impact papers increased from 462 in 2011 to 520 in 2020. The paper with the highest value of category normalized citation impact (115.95) was published in Anesthesia and Analgesia in 2018. High-impact papers were mainly distributed in the subject categories of “Anesthesiology,” “Clinical Neurology,” “Neurosciences,” and “Medicine General Internal.” They were primarily cited in “Anesthesiology,” “Clinical Neurology,” “Neurosciences,” “Medicine General Internal,” and “Surgery.” Most of these high-impact papers came from the USA, UK, Canada, Germany, and Australia. The most productive institutions were the League of European Research Universities, Harvard University, University of Toronto, University of London, University of California System, and University Health Network Toronto. Research collaboration circles have been formed in the USA, UK, and Canada. Subject-term analysis indicated postoperative analgesia, chronic pain, and perioperative complications were high-interest topics, and COVID-19 became a new hot topic in 2020. Conclusions The current study provides a historical view of high-impact papers in anesthesiology in the past ten years. High-impact papers were mostly from the USA. Postoperative analgesia, chronic pain, and perioperative complications have been hot topics, and COVID-19 became a new topic in 2020. These findings provide references for education, research, and clinical practice in the field of anesthesiology.
Scientific publications in critical care medicine journals from Chinese authors: a 10-year survey of the literature.

Abstract:Background: People of Chinese ethnicity are the largest population in the world. Critical care medicine in China is developing rapidly and has achieved great advances in recent 20 years. The research contribution in critical care medicine among Chinese individuals in the three major regions of China-Mainland (ML), Hong Kong (HK), and Taiwan (TW)-is unknown. Methods: Articles published in 18 journals on critical care medicine originating from ML, TW, and HK from 1999 to 2008 were retrieved from the PubMed database and Science Citation Index Expanded. Quantity and quality analyses were conducted for the total numbers of articles, clinical trials, randomized controlled trials, impact factors (IF), citations, and articles published in high-impact journals. Results: There were 932 articles from ML (268), TW (506), and HK (158) from 1999 to 2008. The annual total numbers of articles of the three regions increased gradually from 1999 to 2008 (from 57 to 157). From 2002 onward, the number of articles published from ML exceeded that from HK, but TW still has the dominance in both annual and total number of articles published compared with ML and HK. The accumulated IF of articles from TW (1676.67) was higher than that from ML (708.25) and HK (449.51). TW had the highest average IF of 3.31 followed by HK of 2.85 and ML of 2.64. HK had the highest average citations of each article of 10.73, followed by TW of 6.74 and ML of 5.34. The Journal of Trauma was the most popular journal in the three regions. Conclusions: The total numbers of articles in China increased markedly from 1999 to 2008. TW published the most number of articles, clinical trials, and randomised controlled trials among the three regions. The Journal of Trauma was the most popular journal in the three regions.
China's Research Status in Emergency Medicine: a 15-Year Survey of Literature

Abstract:Objectives: To investigate the research status of emergency medicine in China through literature search of international emergency medicine journals and retrospectively compare the outputs of emergency medicine articles of the 3 major regions of China-Mainland (ML), Taiwan (TW), and Hong Kong (HK).Methods: Emergency medicine journals were selected category from Science Citation Index Expand. Articles from the ML, TW, and HK were retrieved from PubMed database. The total number of articles, publication types, research contents, impact factors (IF), and articles published in each journal were conducted for quantity and quality comparisons.Results: A total of 1760 articles from 19 emergency medicine journals were searched, of which 395 were from ML, 1210 from TW, and 155 from HK. Accumulated IF of articles from TW (2451.109) was much higher than that of ML (851.832) and HK (328.579), whereas the average IF of articles from TW (2.02) was the lowest. The number of case reports was the highest, which was, 69 from ML, 637 from TW, and 25 from HK, respectively. Although emergency medicine was involved with multiple organs and multiple systems, the reports of trauma accounted for 25% of the research contents.Conclusions: The total number of articles from both China and the rest of the world increased significantly from 2000 to 2014, especially ML. The total number of articles from TW was still much more than that of ML and HK, whereas the quality of articles from TW was not as good as ML and HK. Case report had the highest share of publication types, whereas the proportions of meta-analysis and observational study were the lowest. The Global Publication Trend and Research Development of Nerve Block: A Visualisation Analysis Between 1997 and 2021

Abstract:Abstract Background: Nerve block is used as a clinical technique for relieving pain during the surgical period as well as in postoperative analgesia and chronic pain. Although great progress has been recently made regarding nerve block techniques, there is still room for further medical and technical improvement. Here, we analysed the trends in nerve block research and compared contributions from different countries, institutions, journals, and authors. Methods: We extracted all studies concerning nerve block published between 1997 and 2021 from the Web of Science database. Microsoft Excel and VOSviewer were employed to collect publication data, analyse publication trends, and visualize relevant results. Results: A total of 6,437 publications with 111,612 citations were identified between 1997 and 2021. The United States contributed the greatest number of publications (2010), whereas China ranked second (518). The Regional Anesthesia & Pain Medicine journal had published the most papers concerning nerve block. Harvard University and Mariano ER were the most productive institution and author, respectively, in the field. Keywords were categorized into five clusters: the association between nerve block and anaesthesia or analgesia, local anaesthetic drugs for nerve block, nerve block techniques, nerve block for postoperative analgesia, and nerve block for oral local anaesthesia. Management-related research was a heavily researched topic in the field. Conclusions: We concluded that the United States contributed the most studies, and developing countries, led by China, are also encouraging study in this area. The exploration of new drugs in the fields of nerve block, multi-modal analgesia after surgery, treatment of chronic pain, analgesia for thoracic and abdominal surgeries, and analgesic interventions in oral therapy is considered as a potential focus for future research.

Abstract:Objective To describe the characteristics and regularities of anesthetic adverse drug reactions(ADR) in China by bibliographic method.Methods The works on anesthetic ADR in CBMdisc(1978-2005.04) were collected and analysed.Results It was found that the majority of works concerned were concentrated in the journals of anesthesiology.Now the literature volume is increasing rapidly,with the drugs covering intravenous and inhaled general anesthetics and local anesthetics.The sources of concerned information covered 33 provinces,cities and autonomous regions,included in 244 titles.Conclusion The problem of anesthetic ADR has been emphasized in China and the study on it will be growing.
Research trends from 1992 to 2022 of acupuncture anesthesia: a bibliometric analysis

Abstract:Background Acupuncture anesthesia is a significant technical development that originated in China in 1958 and was introduced to the West in the early 1970s. Due to its relative novelty, it has been the subject of intense scrutiny and contestation. Since the early 1970s, the use of acupuncture as a complementary treatment for opioid analgesics has been accepted. Research on acupuncture anesthesia has helped to reduce clinical opioid abuse. However, only a few articles have focused on previous publications that reflect the trend of the study, the main investigators, reciprocal collaboration, and other information in this field. In view of this, we utilized bibliographic analysis methods to objectively analyze current trends and research hotspots in this field, aiming to provide a foundation and reference for future studies. Methods The Web of Science database was searched for publications related to acupuncture anesthesia between 1992 and 2022. The CiteSpace and VOSviewer were used to analyze the annual publications, authors, Co-cited authors, and their countries (regions) and institutions, co-occurrence keywords, burst keywords, Co-citation references and Co-citation journals. Results A total of 746 eligible publications were retrieved from the database for the analysis, including 637 articles and 109 reviews. And the trend of annual publications continued to grow. Aashish J. Kumar, Daniel I. Sessler, Baoguo Wang, and Paul F. White published the most papers in this field (7), and all authors, had a very low centrality (<0.01). China (252) and the University of California System (21) were the most productive country (region) and institution, respectively, while the United States (0.62) and University of California System (0.16) had the highest centrality. After removing keywords related to the search strategy, the three most frequent were pain (115), electroacupuncture (109), and stimulation (91). The six most recent burst keywords were recovery, transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation, systematic review, quality, general anesthesia, and surgery. Wang et al.’s article had the highest co-citation count (20), whereas Zhang et al.’s articles had the highest centrality (0.25). The Journal of Anesthesia and Analgesia was the most influential one (408 co-citations). Conclusion This research provides valuable information for the study of acupuncture anesthesia. In recent years, frontier topics in acupuncture anesthesia research have been the promotion of perioperative rehabilitation, anesthesia management, and quality improvement.

Global research on sufentanil use in anesthesiology from 2003 to 2023: a bibliometric analysis

Abstract:Objective: The application of sufentanil of anesthesiology has become a popular research area. However, literature-based bibliometric analyses on sufentanil are limited. Therefore, this study aimed to review the application of sufentanil in anesthesiology, and evaluate the research status and trends in this field. Methods: We searched the SCI-Expanded, SSCI, and CPCI-S databases from the Web of Science core collection as data sources for articles published from 1 January2003, to 31 December2023, and bibliometric and VOSviewer software were used to visualize and analyze the literature in terms of authors, journals, countries, institutions, and their collaborative networks, as well as keyword networks. Results: Our analysis included 1,473 relevant publications on the application of sufentanil in anesthesiology. The overall number of publications is on the rise; the top three countries of study were China, the US and France; the top three universities that published relevant articles were Anhui Medical University, Capital Medical University and Zhejiang University; the largest number of publications focused on Anesthesia and analgesia; At present, the studies in this field mainly focus on the application scope, mode, and advantages; adverse reactions; and combined effects of sufentanil in combination with other drugs. The adverse factors for the use of sufentanil in anesthesiology and ways to improve its safety and efficacy are hot topics of research. Future research should explore the applicability of population and dose utilization, novel drug combinations, non-opioid adjuncts, and technological innovations. Conclusion: An increasing number of publications indicates that researchers are showing interest in the field of sufentanil use in anesthesiology, and ongoing research is at a relatively mature level. While the international community has established a strong foundation for cooperation, the cooperation among researchers, institutions, and countries needs to be enhanced. Simultaneously, efforts must be made to explore and strengthen personnel cooperation, expand the coverage of funding support, and improve the quality of the literature.
A Bibliometric Analysis of Publications by Anesthesia Departments in the United Arab Emirates

Abstract:The scholarly academic productivity and publication activities of anesthesia departments within the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are currently unknown. We undertook a bibliometric study to quantify UAE anesthetists' contributions to various categories of articles in peer-reviewed high-impact anesthesia journals. Using a PubMed-based analysis, we studied the contribution of United Arab Emirates (UAE) anesthetists towards publications in eight high-impact anesthesia journals (represented in the database for 2023 from Journal Citation Reports®, Thomson Scientific) and four anesthesia subspecialty journals over five years ranging from 2019 to 2023. Additionally, we searched each journal's website for publications related to the individual region of the UAE. We included all categories of articles except correspondences (not free-standing), meeting abstracts, and book reviews. We analyzed the following subsets comprehensively: region of the UAE, author's affiliation to the anesthesia department, publication focus, first authorship, and corresponding author status. UAE anesthetists were involved in 31 publications during the five-year study period. Over 25% of publications originated from the UAE; others were international collaborations. Overall, the anesthesia publication rate in the UAE was less than one per year for one million inhabitants. Only five hospitals contributed more than one publication. The Abu Dhabi Emirate's two main cities (Abu Dhabi and Al Ain) contributed 71% of publications. The UAE anesthetists' primary publication focus was regional anesthesia, medication error, and neurosurgical anesthesia in either the review or original articles category. Our study reveals that the current academic publication output from the anesthesia departments in the UAE is minimal. Our analysis suggests the need for increased scholarly activity, which could significantly advance anesthesia research and practice in the UAE.

Abstract:Pediatric anesthesia presents greater challenges than does adult anesthesia. This bibliometric analysis aimed to analyze the top 100 most cited articles to be better understand the hot spots and prospects in pediatric anesthesia. Articles and reviews related to pediatric anesthesia were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection from 1990 to 2023. A bibliometric analysis of the top 100 most cited articles was also performed using information such as topics, author names, countries, institutions, publication years, and journals. A total of 32 831 articles were identified, with a total of 32 230 citations for the top 100 articles. The peak period for pediatric anesthesia research was from 2005 to 2009. The USA has emerged as the most active country in pediatric anesthesia research. Major journals published included Anesthesia and Analgesia, Anesthesiology, and Pediatrics, underscoring their authority in the field. Clinical studies on the top 100 most cited articles have focused on different stages of the perioperative period, the use of different anesthetic agents, and adverse outcomes in pediatric patients. The current study conducted a bibliometric analysis of the top 100 most cited articles in the field of pediatric anesthesia. Such insights are valuable for identifying research hot spots, assessing academic impact and collaboration in pediatric anesthesia, and guiding future research directions.
