Abstract:Pineapple leaves are realized as the vast amount agricultural waste in Thailand. After harvesting, the leaves are left unused or burn-off for disposing, resulting in serious air pollution problem. The pineapple leaf fiber (PALF) is generally composed of high amount of various cellulose derivatives. Regarding to high content of ordered cellulose, it can be considered as a potential candidate to prepare a carbon electrode material for electrical storage devices. However, carbon electrodes typically show a fast capacity fading in early test cycles. One of the promising approach to improve this capacity loss is doping the electrode material with high capacitive nitrogen containing compounds. Thus, this work we present the production of high graphitic activated porous carbon material derived from PALF as the carbon for lithium ion battery anode (LIBs). Then, the impact of doped polyaniline and melamine additive into the obtained activated porous carbon material from PALF on the electrode material morphology and electrochemical performance were investigated. The physical properties and the electrochemical performance of the obtained carbon-based anode material products were characterized by employing various characterization techniques, such as X-ray diffraction, N2 adsorption/desorption, Scanning electron microscope, Cyclic voltammetry and Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The optimized conditions for both nitrogen-riched additives loading were explored. Eventually, the comparison of electrochemical performance of these different nitrogen functional doping groups was analyzed. The results indicated that the 2-BM sample is the best sample from N-doping with melamine, which achieved a high reversible specific capacity of 447 mAh.g−1 after 100 cycles at the rate of 0.5 C and attained the Coulombic efficiency of nearly 100%.
