Abstract:Kawasaki disease is an acute, self-limited vasculitis of childhood and has become the leading cause of acquired pediatric heart disease in the USA. Prompt treatment is essential in reducing cardiac-related morbidity and mortality. The underlying etiology remains unknown. The disease itself may be the characteristic manifestation of a common pathway of immune-mediated vascular inflammation in susceptible hosts. The characteristic clinical features of fever for at least 5 days with bilateral nonpurulent conjunctivitis, rash, changes in lips and oral cavity, changes in peripheral extremities, and cervical lymphadenopathy remain the mainstay of diagnosis. Supplementary laboratory criteria can aid in the diagnosis, particularly in cases of incomplete clinical presentation. Diagnosis of Kawasaki disease can be challenging as the clinical presentation can be mistaken for a variety of other pediatric illnesses. Standard of care consists of intravenous immune globulin and aspirin. Corticosteroids, infliximab, and cyclosporine A have been used as adjunct therapy for Kawasaki disease refractory to initial treatment. There is ongoing research into the use of these agents in the initial therapy of Kawasaki disease.

Abstract:Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute inflammatory disorder that primarily affects children and can lead to coronary artery lesions (CAL) if not diagnosed and treated promptly. The original clinical criteria for diagnosing KD were reported by Dr. Tomisaku Kawasaki in 1967 and have been used for decades. However, research since then has highlighted the limitations of relying solely on these criteria, as they might lead to underdiagnosis or delayed diagnosis, potentially increasing the risk of coronary artery complications. This review appears to discuss several important aspects related to KD diagnosis and management. The current diagnostic methods for KD might need updates, especially considering cases that do not fit the typical clinical criteria. Recognizing diagnostic pitfalls and distinguishing KD from other conditions that might have similar clinical presentations is essential. The differences and similarities between KD and Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C), another inflammatory condition that has been associated with COVID-19, were also reviewed. The review explores the potential role of eosinophil count, new biomarkers, microRNA panels, and scoring systems in aiding the diagnosis of KD. Overall, the review article provides a comprehensive overview of the evolving landscape of KD diagnosis and management, incorporating new diagnostic methods, biomarkers, and treatment approaches to improve patient outcomes and reduce the risk of complications.

Abstract:Kawasaki disease, also known as mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome, is a common form of vasculitis in childhood. Among the recent trends in Kawasaki disease, it is notable that the prevalence rate is increasing, and the proportion of “incomplete” Kawasaki disease is also increasing. A delayed diagnosis with prolonged fever can cause complications, such as coronary artery aneurysm and decreased myocardial contractility. These complications might lead to significant morbidity and mortality. Kawasaki disease is diagnosed when the patient meets the principal criteria for clinical symptoms. Following the diagnostic criteria can prevent overdiagnosis but lead to missing of the incomplete form of the disease. Therefore, it is important to accurately understand Kawasaki disease. As the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic continues, concerns about a novel severe Kawasaki-like disease in children related to COVID-19 emerges. Indeed, there have been several reports of Kawasaki-like disease related to COVID-19 in children. Kawasaki disease is no longer rare and is often encountered at hospitals. This paper will provide useful and accurate information on Kawasaki disease.

Abstract:Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute vasculitis of childhood,which is the leading cause of acquired heart disease in children in developed countries.Its annual incidence has been increasing year by year.The 2017 edition of Diagnosis,Treatment,and Long-term Management of Kawasaki Disease:A Scientific Statement for Health Professionals from the American Heart Association has identified new evidence of pathological processes.The diagnosis of KD is based on the non-specific clinical pictures.Evaluation of suspected incomplete KD is simplified.Patients believed to be at high risk for IVIG-resistance and development of coronary,artery aneurysms may benefit from an improved primary adjunctive therapy.Z value is used to evaluate and classify the coronary artery,complications of KD.The long-term management of KD becomes more standardized.

Abstract:Kawasaki disease is an acute self-limited vasculitis.Timely and accurate diagnosis and treatment can significantly reduce the incidence of coronary artery dilatation or coronary artery aneurysm.However,there are difficulties in the diagnosis and treatment of Kawasaki disease for the time being.We need to make efforts to further improve the accuracy of diagnosis,early predict and identify the high risk population of refractory Kawasaki disease and coronary aneurysm,and optimize the initial treatment of stratified patients according to the coronary risk they are facing.We should constantly promote the experience of long-term follow-up management of Kawasaki disease so as to improve the level of diagnosis and treatment.
