Abstract:Colleges and universities shoulder the heavy responsibility of cultivating applied sports talents for the country. Application-oriented talents are the needs of sports development, the growing competition market and the objective requirements of the state and society for training sports professionals in colleges and universities. The cultivation of students’ judging ability is one of the important links in the cultivation of practical ability of physical education major in Xinyang Normal University. It is the starting point and destination of the research that how to make students better master various refereeing theories and have excellent refereeing practice ability in the training process. By using the methods of literature review, questionnaire survey, mathematical statistics and logical analysis, this paper draws the conclusion that there are some shortcomings in the basketball referee ability training of Xinyang Normal University students majoring in physical education, such as basic referee skills, theoretical level, referee opportunities, teaching methods, referee selection mechanism, etc., and puts forward some suggestions, such as consolidating students’ referee skills, increasing the class hours of referee class in basketball teaching, combining theory with practice, attaching importance to the cultivation of students’ self-confidence, attaching importance to the promotion of basketball teachers’ referee knowledge, and establishing a sound system. It provides reference for the cultivation of basketball referee ability of students majoring in physical education.
